Viewing online images in native phone apps with AIR?

Gidday guys
What's the standard way of loading an online image into a native phone app? An image that can't be packaged with the app as it may have been changed by the user eg a profile picture, or their logo?

What I'm wondering though is it OK to do this for phone apps, or is there some advantage to emedding the images and putting them in your project's assets folder? eg phones being able to cache images from assets, but not if the images are built into the swf.

A lot of the tutorials I'm getting through practice embedding their images when making phone apps, and put these images in their assets folder.
I'm wondering - is it not OK to simply use images as symbols from your Flash Pro library?
I'm not refering to splashscreens or icons - rather images that make up the app's functionality.
I thought it may be something to do with supplying multiple images for different screen res', but I'm planning on designing at 640x960, and using...
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL;
...to take care of different resolutions.

To be clear, you can see the image from your file system but cannot access it from code?
I'd like to know what could be my bug because I don't understand why I can access from the URL,
-> If you can access the image from URL, you should definitely download it and use it, I'm not quite understand your question now.
I'm not knowledgeable with chmod under Linux, let's say if we give it full accessibility, what will be the result?
Anyway if you can see the image from file system, that already means the upload is succeed, I think you may need get some suggestion from php side to see how can we save the image with a correct permission.

How do i insert a splash screen or a loading screen and a application image for a phone app on Dreamweaver 6, 5.5 had the mobile application setting that is seemingly no longer present? and i also heard you can use animanted backgrounds on the mobile application in dreamweaver 6 but figuring out how to set the splash screen and application image like it was in 5.5 would be nice. All i can get to pull up is the web application i developed i am trying to build into a phone app on google chrome, if i could officially designate it as a phone app where i can set each splash screen and app image to where it is recognized as a phone app that would be really nice.

Duely noted, the server will still not connect, so i have left an inquery in the suggested forum.

Native Phone app crashes

HI,
My son's iPhone 4S has developed on odd problem in that every time he starts the native "Phone" app, it displays an almost blank screen, then disappears after a few seconds. The app still appears to be running when you tap the Home button twice, but you can't switch to the Phone app itself.
I've tried:
deleting the last few apps he installed in case they'd locked or changed something
a full reboot/power down
logging in and out of iTunes (and the iCloud for what that was worth)
downloading a free app (to try the reauthorize idea several websites mention)
restoring the iPhone backup from iTunes
A factory reset and restore
Nothing worked.
I had a trawl through the "Diagnostics and Usage Data" within the Privacy settings, and the Phone apps appears to crash with the same error, but I've no idea what the crash report is telling me, or how to get some meaningful information from it as I'm not a developer...
Do any of you good folk have any ideas as to what I could try next?

The only casualties were my son's SMS messages (I'm guessing there must've been some from his girlfriend he wanted to keep), but he's happier that his phone is now working properly. (And so am I .)

If you haven't already, do Settings > iCloud and turn off Find My iPhone. You will have to supply your Apple ID and password.
Then do Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings to make the iPhone appear as if it just came out of the box.

Can I make phone apps with Dreamweaver 5.5?

I recently came across a tutorial explaining how to make phone apps using Dreamweaver and Phonegap. Later I read that changes in Phonegap required DW CS6. I'm wondering if it's still possible to use my version, CS 5.5 or is an upgrade absolutely necessary?
If not, is there another way to leverage the software I already own CS5.5 to make phone apps?

Actually, you make phone apps with jQuery Mobile in DW. Once completed, PhoneGap is used to compile your app for iOS, Android, Blackberry, etc...

Question about Dreamweaver Native Mobile Apps with PhoneGap

I am trying to determine the best way to build an app for my business. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, but needs a clean UI that is easy to navigate and interfaces with an online database. The PhoneGap intergration with Dreamweaver 5.5 seems really intriguing, but before I spend the $650 to upgrade my creative suite, I had some questions.
Doing some research, I have found multiple references to apps created in this way running slowly. Noticable lapses on button pushes, pages loading slowly, etc. Is this an issue and if it is, is there any way to get around it?
Idealy, I would deploy my app to both Android and iOS devices, how smoothly does that run? I have some basic knowledge of both Java and Objective-C, but using dreamweaver seems to be quite a timesaver.
If anyone has any input or comments about using Dreamweaver to create native mobile apps I would love to get some feedback. Thanks!

PhoneGap builds mobile apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You cannot use a server-side language, such as PHP, with PhoneGap.
Presumably, you want to connect with a MySQL database on a remote server. To do so, you would need to use Ajax to send and receive data from the MySQL database. You can use jQuery to send and receive data as JSON. PHP has JSON functions that decode and encode data as JSON strings.
How difficult or easy you would find setting this up depends on your knowledge of jQuery and PHP. I don't know of any tutorials that show how to pull everything together for PhoneGap, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find tutorials for using jQuery Ajax to communicate with MySQL.

Firefox 4.0 is my default browser, and I am receiving a script error message when I try to view online images in Family Tree Maker 2011, a genealogy program. Have not had problems until Firefox 4.0. Can't seem to find a setting in Firefox to fix this.

I see. Well, I just tried to make IE my default browser, but it did not solve the problem. I receive the same script error when I view the image. (I may not have explained this thoroughly enough at first - I do get to view the image after answering the error message, but the print button embedded in the window doesn't work. Before, I never had a problem with viewing or printing.)
I imagine that at this point I will either need to communicate this to the IE people, or possibly revert to an older version of IE.

Native iOS app with MAF logon components: Linking fails

Hi all,
I try to compile a SDK 3.0 project with MAF logon components.
I followed this tutorial and finally got a running iOS app with the dependencies for the SDK: Getting started with SMP3 Native OData iOS apps
Now I would like to add MAF logon component usage. The Sybase guide describes this under Developing with MAF Logon. I copied the basic initialization steps from there to my project.
However, although I have all the required headers, the linker fails trying to find the implementation for MAFLogonUIViewManager.h
I guess I did not add a dependency properly. In which of the files/bundles added should this component be?

I am having a similar issue. I am following the same instructions. At the point where I create the LogonHandler, the file MAFLogonManagerNG.h is not found by Xcode. This file does not seem to be present in the SDK either. When I comment it out, the MAFLogonUIViewManager is not recognized.
Have you been able to resolve your issue?

Deploying Phone Apps with our employees

I can't create a native android app with 2560x1600 rendition. I only see the 2048x1536 and 1024x768 option in the web native Android application ?

i ve created a native android app. I need to publish on a 2560x1600 android tab. the problem is that in my library i have my 2048x1536 and 1024x768 ipad version.
I know that when i create my native Android app i should be able to chose my rendition in only 2560x1600 but in the Library Tab of de web android native app builder I only see the 2048x1536 and 1024x768 option.
Please do you have an idea ?

The dropdown only lists the folio sizes you have published in your app's publication account. Make sure you've actually published a 2560x1600 folio and then you'll be able to select it from the dropdown.

Possible Solution: Allow native code packaging with AIR using ADT?

Packager / ADT are providing huge benefits for AS3 developers targetting mobile as we all know. We also know that we'd like as much access to the native libs for the various platforms as we can possibly get. Two cases in point, in-app purchasing and access to Apple's iAd network. Discussions about these requirements over the last few days with a colleague of mine have resulted in him coming up with a very strong idea for providing adhoc access to native libraries. He has posted his suggestion, (which involves a feature request to Adobe), on Adobe AIR Ideas at Labs. I really encourage as many people as possible to read his suggestion to get the discussion warmed up. If you think the proposal is worthy, please make sure you vote it up so that it registers on Adobe's radar. I believe this would really benefit all of us working with AIR for mobile. Error creating files. Compilation failed... when publishing iOS app with AIR 3.1 and Flash 11.5.1

Hello, I'm running Windows 7. I'm using Flash 11.5.1 (that's CS5.5 updated once) and AIR 3.1 to make an iPhone app.
I can export the app perfectly fine with either Ctrl+Enter or F12.
I added all the required things with AIR for iOS settings, such as a p12 certificate and icon files.
I then hit publish. After I hit publish, I got this error:
Error creating files.
Compilation failed...
I tried dragging the window to see if there was anything hidden behind the elipses. What can I do to fix this problem?

note sure if I'm much help other than to CONFIRM it is working for me by using the sdk WITHOUT the compiler. Check out adobe's little note: "Note : Flex users will need to download the original AIR SDK without the new compiler."
I am using FB 4.7 with AIR 3.6 and seems to compile correctly for iOS.
Maybe try reinstalling flash builder?
I honestly don't know if the JRE has anything to do with it... I'm using 1.7 ....to see what JRE you're using, open the Java Control Panel (I right click my java orange icon and hit properties), select the Java tab, then hit "View..."
