Viewing other content via Apple TV

I'm considering buying apple tv as it seems like a great product and I like the idea of its functionality. However, would it also allow me to stream other content from my computer such as Major League Baseball On line broadcasts? Appreaciate any help you can provide.

padent,
Knowledge base article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304974 outlines what kind of music and video content can be played on the Apple TV.

  • Amazon content via Apple TV

Can you stream Amazon content / movies from an iPad to my tv via Apple TV?  I know it's not a "direct" feed but can I do it via mirroring?

burgback is entirely correct about using the iOS Amazon app as an option, but in practice AirPlay is rather buggy and nu-reliable.  If you really want to watch Amazon content on a regular basis I would look at getting the Amazon FireTV.  They start at $40.

We were watching a movie from iTunes on our Apple TV and it froze with about 10 minutes left... just a spinning disk.  Network was fine, I could run Netflix, I could choose other content via AppleTV or iTunes... but the movie only gives spinning disk when I go back to it.  I confirmed settings on AppleTV and reset the unit without any result.  iTunes indicates I have 21 hours left on the rental.  I would like to be able to finish the movie and not have to rent it again.
Any thoughts?  Anything that needs to be done in Samsung TV settings?

How did you verify network was fine?
Netflix adapts to the network whereas iTunes needs a consistently solid connection. What other content did you try?
What is your current connection via speedtest
Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of the network
Make sure DNS is set to automatic.

  • Viewing Web Content on TV from Computer via Apple TV

I subscribe to a online news service and was told I would be able to stream that service from my computer to my tv via apple tv and also view websites on my tv from my computer via apple tv. How do I do that?

You need to use airplay or mirror.  What mac or device do you want to stream from?

  • My laptop is no longer reliable. I want to share my iTunes account with my new iPad 3.   I just started viewing my iPad window on my 50 inch Panasonic wirelessly via Apple Tv 2.  That amazing.    I would like to access my iTunes store via iPad for podcast

My laptop is no longer reliable. I want to share my iTunes account with my new iPad 3.   I just started viewing my iPad window on my 50 inch Panasonic wirelessly via Apple Tv 2.  That's amazing.
Now I want to share my iTunes account with my Apple TV  1, and my iPad 3, without the need of booting up the unreliable laptop where I set it up last year.   do I have to use my. Pc laptop to access the iTunes store again too authorize home sharing.   I have tried it before. O for a while I thought the we're sharing, now the Apple Tv has gone back to telling me to use my computer too sign into iTunes.
there maybe a far simpler way to enjoy iTunes on my iPad and Apple Tv.   I also have the Sony blurry Google Tv.  I will upgrade my PC with Windows Z8 and a screaming ran cache, ram disk on a 79 mother board and then pay 5 bucks a month for OnLive Plus that I hpe to show wirelesslypy on the big scree 50 inch Panasonic.   I have waited for years to upgrade as I wanted to help my kids in college.  They are finished and so I have money fr my self.CELEBRATE

Are you using the charger and cable that came with the phone?
Are you using an unauthorized third party charger?

A black airplay info window floats around on my HDTV screen when sending audio content via airplay up to sound system w Apple TV.  How can I get rid of this?

Had this happen to me after a recent update, was super annoying.  To turn off, go to Settings > AirPlay > Conference Room Display > Off.

  • Is there any in build access security feature in apple tv? I am using this device as a service for my client and am afraid third party would cut in and display other contents.

I am planning to ofgfer the apple TV services for my client in a number of room. I know that apple TV could be set with different ID/label to differentiate them if I am, installing multiple device within the same wireless coverage SSID. However, how do I prevent intruders cutiing in with some other contents while my client is doing the presentation? For example in Room A, client A is doing the video opresentation vioa his Mac book Pro. there is always a possibility that some people with OS X Mountain Lion detect the device and decide to play a prank and start to push other contents to the Apple TV device in Room A. If the device could provide an authentication feature, there will actually resolve my concern. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks Richard

    Hi soo.richard,
You say it could be intruders cutting in - same problem/solution as for any network I think. Access can be password protected or access limited via MAC address filtering. I'm not sure how Apple Tv works with a hidden SSID but that would be another option.
Airplay itself can be password protected through the airplay settings.
I'm not sure if Apple TV works with other authentication such as a password but maybe the manual will assist with this?
    Hope this helps.

  • When I stream a movie via Apple TV from my iPad Air into my Samsung TV, I'm getting the "soap opera" effect. This only happens when I use Apple TV, not when I view a movie directly through a cable channel. Is there a way to eliminate this effect?

I'm having the same problem.  It's not an issue with my TV, i've turned this feature off.  I've tried playing with the ATV display settings but nothing works.  When I stream netflix from my Samsung bluray player, I don't get the soap opera effect, but when I stream any video from the ATV, the soap opera effect is there.  I'm thinking it's a choice that Apple made, but I really wish it could be turned off.  Not a lot of people are searching for this, because it can be easy to overlook, but it's driving me nuts!

  • Delete orange marked specified as "other" content on harddisc of Apple TV

I work with the Apple TV since 9 months. It synchronizes well with ITunes, I useApple TV for TV-formats (Video) and photos. I have the 40 GB harddisc model. Now almost 10GB are blocked by "other" material, which is neither photo nor video content. I can seethis marked in orange on the graphic indicator of the used memory space, specified as "other" when I view the Apple TV content in iTunes. First I cannot identify what this "other" material could be and worse I cannot delete it. There is no reference of this "other" content to my ITunes - and this strange "other" stuff is slowly eating up the memory of the harddisc. Anybody with an idea what this is and how I can get rid of it.

You do a factory restore from the tv itself: settings/general/reset settings. You will need to set up the tv again though and resync all your content.
You could and perhaps should try resetting it or restarting (unplug) it first though to save you some work, you might even try syncing nothing and then resyncing everything back.
Basically its hidden data, such as your database files, but it should no way be 10 GB, my tv's vary in how much other is used, 4 of them have around 85 MB of other, 1 has 104 MB (but this is the 160GB model whereas the others are 40 GB, which might explain it).

  • I have iPod apps (from the App Store) like ABC player, NBC player and Facebook. Can I view these via Apple TV on my tv?

I have iPod apps (from the App Store) like ABC player, NBC player and Facebook. Can I view these via Apple TV on my tv?

This is app dependend.  From each app, look for the AirPlay icon (square with the triangle).  You may see it or not or you may also see only an audio icon (like probably for ABC and NBC) as some app prevent video AirPlay.
For Facebook, the anwer is no.  In order for it to work, you need AirPlay mirroring which isn't supported on iPod.

  • HT4437 Can I play a video from the remote app onto apple tv whilst simultaneously stra, ing music to other speakers via express?

Can I play a video from the remote app onto apple tv whilst simultaneously stra, ing music to other speakers via express?

Thank you for that, I wanted to make sure I was trying to replicate the same thing as you. Just tried it now, works fine for me.
Of note though, this will take a relatively well performing network to achieve this, I have such a network, if your network is not as good as it might be, you might encounter problems.
For the avoidance of doubt, I used the remote app on my phone to get my iTunes library on my computer to stream music to 3 of my Apple TVs, I then used the remote app to control another Apple TV and get it to stream a music video from my computer to it. Of interest I managed to do this while my wife was using yet another Apple TV (not with the remote app) to watch something else from iTunes on my computer.

  • TS2972 Apple TV will play some content but not other content

My AppleTV will recognize the available content on my computer and will play some of it, but when I try to watch other content it says that I must authorize the computer.  However, the computer is already authorized, which Apple TV sees because it will play my music and a TV show I've downloaded.  The content that it will not play was downloaded directly onto my iPad, and I can watch it on my iPad.  When I try to watch it on Apple TV, it says I need to authorize the computer.
This is very frustrating.  Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Just needed to Re-authorize the computer and every thing worked fine. I imagine this will solve most of the issues that I see posted on here concerning this problem.

  • I have an external hard drive connected via usb, how can I view the contents?

I'm new to Mac... I have an external hard drive, I plugged it in to the usb port but don't know how to view the contents.  What do I do?

Open Finder (by clicking on the icon int he Dock) and your external USB disk should show up in the left pane under "Devices".
Note that it has to be formatted for Mac if you want to read and write data.
