Viewing output when printing to video

I have just switched to editing HD, when I print to video i see a very small version of the output in the center of the screen, everything works but i wonder if i can get the output to show full screen on my display as it outputs?
thanks!

thanks, i have a 30 inch apple display, i assume it's hd compliant? i see the picture it's just that it's small and in the center of a black box which is itself in the center of my very large screen! the actual picture is about 4 inches long and 2 1/2 inches tall.

  • Video playback on external monitor working. Only works when Print to Video

I'm having a problem. I'm using FCP 5. When editing, my video playback is not showing up on my external monitor (Sharp MiniDV camcorder). It does however show up on the external monitor when I "Print to Video." This is the first time using FCP 5. I never had this problem with previous versions of FCP. Can anyone tell me whats going on? Thanks

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Unable to recognize deck when printing to video (fcp 6.0.5)

I am driving myself absolutely crazy trying to figure this one out. I found a previous thread discussing the same problem (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8602649) but nothing has worked.
My footage was shot using a Sony HVR-V1U. I captured using the ProRes 422 codec. My audio video settings are set with the following...
    sequence preset: Apple Pro Res 422 1440 x 1080 60i 48khz
capture preset: Apple Pro Res 422
device control preset: sony firewire hdv
When click on the A/V tab, different output for edit to tape/print to video is selected:
    video: [Missing] HDV 1440 x 1080 60i
    audio: default
Im not sure why the missing is there. My firewire port is working and i can capture without a problem.
I've tried trashing the prefs and am at a loss. This problem may have an easy solution and really hope someone can help!
    Thanks!

Sorry to say, these days that machine is marginal, and HDV is processor intensive. I hate that darned codec already.
Just for laughs, capture one clip as prores and see if you can recreate the behaviour. It might behoove you to re-ingest your footage if you haven't gotten too far along.

  • Weird audio issue when printing to video

I am attempting to dub a couple of old projects to tape using the Print to Video command (firewire connection to Panasonic DVX-100A MiniDV camera). I have used this method many times in the past with success. However, I have now tried two different projects tonight and had the same strange issue: The project plays back perfectly normally in the timeline, through the computer speakers, but when I Print to Video, there will be one part where a small audio "blip" can be heard. It sounds like either a snippet of tone or the sound of un-rendered audio... except it's all rendered.
Anybody have any suggestions? It's really weird that it plays back something different in Print to Video than it does in regular playback... Any help is appreciated.

That did it, thanks! I feel kind of dumb, I've never used that function before. Is that something I should have been doing all along? Anyway, thanks again. It's nice to get a response and have it work on the first try. So refreshing.

  • Drop Frames when Printing to Video

I know there are a lot of topics on drop frames, but I couldn't find any that met my specific set of circumstances.
My video plays fine and there is no red bar indicating that something has to be rendered. However, when I try to print to video, ten seconds in, the project is aborted and a drop frame error is given.
Is there anything I can do to get around this?
    Thanks.

I don't know the specs of your machine however...
Alternatevely you could open the RT dropdown menu
and turn playback video quality and playback frame rate to the minimum and close
    other projects.

  • Loosing audio when printing to video

    I'm working with FCE HD 3.0. I use a Powermac G5-2x1.8. Memory: 3 GB.
    Systemdrive: 150 GB.
    Internal scratchdrive: 280 GB.
System: Mac OSX 10.3.9. My camera is a Sony HDR-HC3.
My scratchdisk is filled with 188 GB.
I edited a 40 min. movie. When I play the timeline everything is fine.
When I print to tape I lose some parts of teh musictracks (track 5 and 6), Sometimes I even loose little parts of the clipsound (track 1 and 2).
Befor I print to video I render video and audio, use 'mixdown' and refresh videodevice.
How to get a good result?
    G5-2x1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi(Bonjour)!
If there is a song bought on iTune Music Store, you can't use this track.
Did you render an audio mixdown before export ?
Try a test version with just one minute of movie. (set in and out point in timeline and do the print to tape operation).
Try a print to tape from a cold start mac.
Drag your playhead around your sequence before printing (it's seem that this process load the cahe memory, at least in my own experience)
If the problem is still there, you can also do an audio track mix quicktime conversion export (aiff 16 bit) from your sequence, import it into a new sequence, open your previous edited one in editor (option clik), do uncheck audio A1 and A2 target, and drag the video content on V1 in the new sequence. Drag your exported audio on A1 A2.
Do a check for the synch of your movie.
Do not forget to do an audio mixdown before print to tape.
Does your hard drive is fragmented or full at more than 80% level?

  • When printing to video I only get sound, no video

Hi. I'm printing some video on to a DV tape. It's HD video with Final Cut Pro. I have my Sony HD camera connected and select Print to Video from the File menu. I get a black screen, but no real fottage. Only audio. How strange. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

so it seems like it's a camera problem, not an fcp problem. Couple of ideas. Disconnect the camera from the computer and see if that allows you to reset the menu. Then reconnect. Load an HDV clip in the viewer and play making sure external video is set correctly to feed the camera via firewire and see if that allows you to reset the menu. Completely power down the camera (disconnect power and battery) and power up and see if that makes a difference. Look at the camera manual.

  • "Incompatible Compression Settings" all of a sudden when printing to video

Yesterday all went fine...tried to print to video again today (same project) and got an "incompatible compression settings" error message. I've changed nothing. All was fine yesterday...any clue?

As long as your cartriges are full, put a photo on you desktop, highlight it , click COMMAND P and the print preferences window should drop down, and select your printer and photo paper.

  • Incorrect Color Output when Printing

I've place a CMYK image from photoshop into indesign. It has a dark blue background and prints correctly out of photoshop. Indesign, however, prints the blue as a rich purple color. The color output is set to composite CMYK. When I change the output to composite RGB, the color changes to a lighter blue, but it's not exact as the original photoshop file. Everything appears fine on the monitor, but prints incorrectly. I'm running on a Mac Pro dual 3.0Ghz, 4Gb ram, and printing to a Konica Minolta C451. Any ideas?

That is a feature of RGB to cmyk conversion. There is a mathematical tendency for the conversion to be non-linear, it actually spirals towards the red in those colours.

You can do a hue shift layer specifically for the blues and bend it back into shape.

  • Spinning ball when printing to video!

    Hello

I have my project ready and when I try to print it on video, the spinning ball stays there all the time. Then The application is not responding?
    What is wrong???
    Thanks

You MUST give more information about your computer setup, version of FCE, size and complexity of project and exactly what you are doing.
This article will give you an idea of some of the things you need to mention:-
ASKING FOR HELP WITH FINAL CUT EXPRESS
When you write in with a problem, remember to give all possible APPROPRIATE details.
On occasions, people have omitted to mention vital details about what they were doing. eg. trying to capture video clips from a still camera!
    Things to mention:-
THIS IS A GENERAL LIST - SOME ITEMS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
Computer model and external Hard Drive.
    Operating System.
    FCE version.
    Camera type.
Did the problem suddenly occur or has it NEVER worked?
Have you recently loaded new Software or Upgraded ANY programs, Operating Systems etc.
Have you moved or altered your source files?
Have you captured the clips from a DV camera or an A/D Converter etc.?
Is it Standard or High Definition Video?
What type of files are you using?
Also include details of exactly what you were doing before the problem occurred.
Is your video extremely long (over an hour) and filled with numerous transitions and effects?
Is your Hard Drive more than 75% full or badly fragmented?
Is your external HD FireWire or USB2? (USB2 is NOT suitable).
What other equipment have you got plugged into your computer - it may be causing conflicts?
Is your camera plugged directly into your computer’s FW socket? Daisy chaining it can prevent it working properly.
Video from DVD and Hard Disk Camcorders or Still Cameras can not be used in Final Cut Express.

When I go to print an email the text comes out too small to read. How do I change the font size. Also, page sometimes moves up and down when I'm typing a reply to an email. Upon viewing before printing the email text, it appears normal font size, but when it prints out the text is too small to read.

It was already on 100 per cent. I clicked it just in case. Nothing happerned.

  • Compress output when printing Report

    hi,
I am using Canon BJC-1000SP printer. Sometime I meed to print reports in 10 CPI format and other time in 18 CPI (compressed) format. For this I need to change the printer setting explicitly. Is there any way to change this setting using triggers.
I have heard about .prt file but I don't know how to use that.
    Take care,
    Tarek

The .prt file is for character mode reports (ie: producing ASCII output). It doesn't have any effect if you're producing Postscript output. The only Postscript printer property that you can change programmatically from within Reports is: srw.set_printer_tray.
If the CPI setting doesn't need to be within the Postscript file then you might be able to print to file first and then send the file to the printer with the appropriate options.

  • Insufficient disk space when rendering for print to video

  • Missing Left line on all the invoices when printing from APPS

    Hi Guys,
I need help here as i am learning XML. I customized one of my invoices RTF template and looks fine. When i generate the Invoice output from Apps through concurrent manager I am getting output with missing left line. When i tried to print from View Output its printing fine.
Is anyone came across this? Please let me know if anybody has solution.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Kumar

When you hit Print, is the dialog that comes up really small? If so, there's a triangle you can hit to the right of the Printer menu in the dialog that'll expand it to full size. This was something Apple added in 10.5 to simplify printing, but it's caused a lot of confusion.
If that's not it, are any of the menu items in the middle menu (the one that starts out saying "Layout") crossed out? If so, you're probably running in 64 bit mode and the printer driver probably does not work in 64 bit. If you're using the latest driver, then try launching Lightroom in 32 bit mode (in the Finder, do Get Info on the application and check Open in 32 Bit Mode).
If neither of those work, let me know.
