Viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac

I have a pdf that I generated on a PC (Windows 7, using Acrobat 9). The front cover includes an image that was previously pdf'd then inserted as a cover graphic. When viewed using Acrobat Reader, everything looks fine both on a PC and a Mac. However, when viewed on a Mac using Preview for Mac, there are lines through the cover graphic.
Has anyone else come across problems viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac?

I always find that Preview can garble certain graphic elements or even slightly alter the over-all color of the PDF. However, I also find it is a lot quicker to deal with PDFs, especially when it comes to printing. Sometimes I get a PDF that I send to print on our Canon copier and I end up canceling the print job after 10-15 minutes because it's still processing. I open that same PDF in Preview and it prints in less than a minute. The same can be said of InDesign so on certain jobs I end up exporting as a PDF and printing from Preview. This might say a lot about Adobe's Printing Engine... (sorry, off-topic)

  • Pdf duplication in Preview for Mac behaving differently

When duplicating a PDF in Preview for Mac, a new image window would open that I could click on to select, then rename and save elsewhere. Just recently, seems like in the last few days, Preview now behaves differently. Now when I select duplicate, a duplicate document is created in the same window but shows as a thumbnail in the sidebar. This is confusing as it appears that Preview is trying to create a duplicate of the document at the end of the original. I don't appear to have received any updates from Apple that would account for this sudden change in behaviour (shows Preview last modified 18th November). I don't appear to be able to change this in Preview's Preferences. Can I revert Preview to the previous behaviour? (I'm using latest version of Preview in Yosemite on a 24" iMac).

Also it takes ages to generate the preview for a PDFs with about 1MB.

    Hello sponger:
If no one posts a fix for you, I would consider an archive and install (NOT an erase and install):

Be sure you have a good backup/retreat strategy before you proceed. In my case, I make bootable clones of my iMacs on an external firewire drive using a little program called SuperDuper (www.shirt-pocket.com).

  • Is it possible to generate PDF with "enable for commenting" from AI?

I am using Illustrator CS5 and have Acrobat 9 Pro on a Mac. I would like to generate PDF's with "enabled for commenting" feature on.
I was able generate a PDF from CS5 -> open it in Acrobat 9 Pro -> enable commenting -> Save as new PDF
I prefer to skip the above mannual step and generate the PDF with commenting enabled directly from Illustrator. Any ideas?

Acrobat 9 Pro doesn't support batch processing to "enable for commenting" feature. I can batch generate the PDFs from AI but will have to manually convert each PDF using Acrobat 9 Pro....(sucks!!!)
Another option is that I get a Acrobat 9 Pro for Windows - install LiveCycle - tranfer my AI generated PDFs (mac) to windows and use batch processing feature of LiveCycle to convert the PDFs into "enable for commenting" (sucks less!!!)
I would love to hear any other option available.

  • Converting PDF to Word for Mac version 14

I subscribed to PDF Export and tested it by converting a Word for Mac doc to a PDF and then opening same in Word. My font was Palatino regular. It opened alright, but
Calibri was substituted for Palatino. How can I change this.

I'm glad you've got the problem licked now, or at least understand the limitations on some of your downloaded PDF documents. I suspect those limitations will apply to all documents that are downloaded from the same database or source, and will consistently not apply to documents downloaded from specific other databases, because of differences in the way documents are scanned by different database services.
By way of clarification, let me just point out that what you are calling Acrobat, which used to be called *Acrobat Reader,* is now officially called *Adobe Reader.* Adobe changed the name to distinguish more clearly between Acrobat — an expensive commercial application for +creating, modifying and manipulating+ PDF files — and the freeware Adobe Reader, which only enables you to view them. You'll avoid needless confusion by calling the Reader by its proper name in the future. No big deal, though: lots of people make the same mistake here. (I've explained this distinction to my wife any number of times, and have finally learned not to bother doing it again: she simply doesn't care.)

  • How can I create a keyboard shortcut to export to pdf in Pages for Mac

Can anyone explain how to create a keyboard shortcut that works in pages?

Reluctant as I am to contradict Viking OS X, yes it is possible.
This is for Yosemite, it is slightly different in other versions of OS X.
Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts > + > Applications > Pages > Menu Title: PDF… > Keyboard Shortcut > hold down whatever combination you want > Add
As Viking says this won't choose Good, Better, Best but at least it gets you to that point. Unfortunately it always defaults to Good.
NB that PDF… has to be typed with ALL CAPS and the ellipsis is option ; or copy from here. It has to be literally what is in the menu.
You could make a more intelligent keyboard shortcut with 3rd party Apps like Spark [free] or QuicKeys or iKey or Shortcuts for Mac or Keyboard Maestro.

  • Acrobat XI will not create PDF from word for Mac

I'm on a late 2013 macbook air, running Mountain lion, office for mac 20011 and acrobat XI pro.  In acrobat, when I go to file, create pdf and navigate to a word doc, acrobat will not creat the pdf.  I get an error message that reads someting like "acrobat could not open test.docx because it is not a supported file type."  Create pdf works with other file types. I can create PDF by using the Save As in Word, but that is besides the point. I bought Acrobat in order to process many word and excel files into on PDF-file easily and currently that is not possible. Anyone?

    This is possible on Windows.

  • Need full bleed PDF in Word for Mac 2011 ...

    Hi,
I created a PC Word 2010 template that bleeds on all 4-sides. The page size of the document is 5.5"X8.5". When trying to "Save As PDF" on the Word for Mac 2011 I get a .125"(1/8") white border on all sides. This
doesn't happen when I issue Save As PDF from the PC.
Can you tell me how to fix this problem?

  • Site won't view correctly in IE 5.2 for Mac

I'm just about ready to publish my site and it has tested
correctly in all browsers except for IE 5.2 for Mac.
Several problems are occuring such as I can't use the
scrollbars in individual boxes, the "thoughts" do not appear
correctly in the div when the "thought button" is clicked, links
inside the information containers don't work, and the transparent
    contact form is green.
The site can be found here:
    www.lightspacewebdesign.com/sacredsolas
Is there anything I could be doing to make it more
    compatible??
    Thanks!

Do not worry about IE 5.2. There are enough security holes in
it that should warrant it to be retired by any user and all further
development has been discontinued thus it will not be compatible
with Mac OS greater than Tiger (10.4) officially speaking.

  • I am having problems exporting to PDF using InDesign for Mac.

    Hi all!
I just started using the Creative Suite on Mac and have run into a couple problems. One is that when I set up a document in InDesign using "Facing Pages" and then export to PDF, the document exports each set of "Facing Pages" as one singular spread (my 20 page InDesign document becomes a 10 page PDF). Once it is a PDF, there are no page break lines in the center of the spread to indicate that they are two separate pages, and when I try to set up viewing preferences in Acrobat (single or double page), it too recogrnizes each spread as a single page.
When I used to do this in InDesign using Windows, whether I exported to PDF or printed to PDF from a document set up with "Facing Pages," each page would still be considered separate once converted to PDF (20 page InDesign docment becomes a 20 page PDF).
This also leads me to my next question : I see that on Mac, there is no option for printing to PDF, but I notice a quality difference specifically when it comes to linework (vector information) that has been "placed" in the document from Illustrator. Is there any way to achieve the quality of printing to PDF on Mac?
    Thank you in advance!
    Gabby

Hi Bob, I just tried your suggestion, but the interactive PDF is in spreads by default, no way to change the setting. When I choose to view by single page in Acrobat, it displays a single spread.
When I choose to view by spreads, it displays 4 pages, two spreads. That's the topic of this whole discussion, I believe. I do own CS 6 at home, however my employer supplied me with CS 5.5. And I have very little, if any, influence on purchasing.
So, I have no good way to make an interactive PDF (with differing recto/verso headers and footers), that is accessible and shows the correct header/footer. It's either single pages (with one header/footer), or recto/verso headers/footers but PDF only as a spread, as well as I can tell.
Unless you know something else I can do...
    Best, Marilyn

  • Copy and pasting from PDF to Word for Mac

I have a Mac Book Pro and I am having difficulty in copying from PDF to Word documents. Specifically, I cannot highlight the text that I want to move to the Word document. I have followed the help suggestions, and found that the PDF has not encription barriers. The cursor does not go from the arrow head to the other symbol that would allow me to highlight that which I want to copy. I have the text tool, and under edit, the copy word is ready. I am at a loss, as I can copy from e-mail and other things. Thanks.

  • Convert PDF to Epub for mac,What can I do?

    Hello,here.
    I have bought a computer in the second-hand market,it is a really good computer.But here is a problem I can't handle.
It is running the MAC system, but I am not familiar with mac.So when I want to convert novels download from Internet with PDF format to Epub,I don't know how to do it.
    Any help?

Calibre is a great application for organizing your eBooks.  It can automatically sort your books by their metadata, and even display their covers in a Coverflow-style viewer.
Calibri makes it simple to read your eBooks in any format you need. It is a project that is in constant development, and updates regularly adding better stability and features.  Whether you want to ready your PDF eBooks on a Sony Reader, Kindle, netbook or Smartphone, your books will now be more accessible than ever.  And with thousands of free PDF eBooks out there, you’ll be sure to always have something to read. But first, you'd better understand the difference between: PDF, ePub and iBook. I have a cookbook that is in pdf format with all the links between recipes and index/contents done. As there are 275 recipes, this took a lot of work.

  • Can you print in notebook view in MS Office Word 2004 (for mac)?

I'd like to use the notebook view in Word 2004 (Mac version) to take notes in class, and I would also like to print them in that view (notebook pages style). It doesn't do it automatically, I was hoping there was a way of having it print the notebook lines; and I can't seem to find any print options to do so.

    Desidarius:
I am confirming the following for you. I have Word 2008.
Word 2008 offers the Notebook Layout view (We know this).
Notebook Layout View prints through Word's normal printing routines, which means that *it doesn't include such UI elements as notebook rings, rulers, and hole-punches.*
However, bullets, checkboxes, and note flags are considered in-document content so these do print.

Yes, it is Acrobat Pro 11.
    Just a pdf
It is saying this "This document does not allow you to save any changes you have made to it unless you are using Adobe Acrobat 9, Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, or Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9. You will only be saving a copy of the original document. Do you want to continue?"
