Viewing pdf files in Union Bank's site
When we login to Union Bank's site, and we try to view a pdf file, a pop up message appears stating "It appears that your system either does not have the software needed to view the requested document or, if it does, the software is not properly configured. If you are unable to view the document see your system administrator about installing or reconfiguring a viewer such as Adobe Viewer."
It seems that Union Bank's IT team have made some erroneous assumptions about what end-users have/must have installed.
When an account query results in a report output to a PDF that is created per ISO 32000-1 (the ISO Standard for PDF) then that PDF will always be able to be rendered by versions of Adobe Reader and Acrobat.
If other non-Adobe PDF viewers are used the same is true IF these viewers comply with ISO 32000 (not all do eh).
It is most probable that your bank has some wrong assumptions and should make the needed corrections.
Be well...

Unable to open PDF files from my banking statements.
I think almost every dev is on arch-general, so that is the place to contact the group in general. Specific points can probably be emailed to the dev involved, if one is identifiable and if the bug tracker is not a better place (bug reports to my email get ignored).
I think the whole problem here is that there is really no dev in charge of that package. So your emails were probably seen then skipped over by all devs thinking not my problem... (I know that is true for me). Then Andrea noticed an "orphan" package that needed updated and went ahead with it without connecting it to your previous emails, which is unfortunate.
Now our maintainer backend is fixed, hopefully we can get all the orphan packages adopted out, or at least know if we need to bring on new people to maintain them. That way, there should always be someone who information about specific packages should be sent to. -
Can't view PDF files in Wb Browser
Hello from a relative newbie to Adobe.
Recently I began getting the message " Adobe Acrobat Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again " when viewing web sites.
I have Adobe Acrobat 4 ( and always have, I think ) so I successfully downloaded Version 9.1 but still keep getting the same message.
Could I get some help please ?
Cheers,

29th September, 2009As long as I can view the current bank files (not downloads), the actual statements are not vital. I can print those pages, but it's just very difficult and time consuming to go through all of that when a statement is what I need. I can always go back to paper statements in the mail, but those would just be current.
Anyway, it happened just as you said...out of the blue. You probably know more than I do about computer issues...you might check out your firewall and security settings. I get lost when I start checking things out, so I'll try to keep track and let you know if I find a solution.
Thanks, George...maybe Adobe will respond???
Take care.....

I am not able to open or view PDF files on my ipad 4th gen.
Hello,
This looks this issue is specific to this particular banking site and we definitely want to know more to help resolve this issue. It is likely that this particular functionality is not supported on Firefox and I would suggest that you report this to the bank and request them to support it soon.
That said, there are a few things you can do from the details provided in the [[Websites don't load - troubleshoot and fix error messages]] SUMO article. Specifically, the section about [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]] and reporting the website might help us provide more information.
If this is a banking site used by any of the other volunteers who are willing to dig more to find out why, they will try to provide the resolution sooner.
I know this is not really a resolution that will help you, but given that I don't have much information as to what is the offending part of the website causing the issue, I can only suggest this much.
Thank you -
How to view PDF files like a flipping magazine?
Hi, I am new here. I didn't know if it is the optimum catagory for my question, I hope you guys will help me.
In brief, I want to view PDF files like a flipping magazine. You know, just the same flipping effect that ibook did on ios. Adobe reader is the only choice to browse PDF on computer for me. It's kind of bothering and annoying now.
So, any ideas for that? Plus, my computer runs on win7 64bit.This is also a good site: http://www.issuu.com/ You can sign up and use it for free or you can upgrade(for a price) to make custom changes (like background color, button color, etc.) You can also embed the html code into your website if you would like someone to view it there. Good luck!

I just got Windows 7 and have been having problems since loading it. Most of my drivers only go to Vista and don't recognize 7.
I have trying to download some manuals from their website
and keep getting this message; Adobe Acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in Web Browser.Could I suggest a workaround for PDFs until a solution is posted? Open them directly in the Adobe application rather than in a browser tab.
In your Adobe application(s), go to:
Edit > Preferences > Internet
Then uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
(There are very few sites where having PDF integrated is really beneficial.) -
I can not view pdf. files on the web.
I have downloaded the latest Adobe reader.
I can open and view existing pdf files on my desktop.
I can not however view any pdf files from web sites.Yes, it was working.
Last week I cleaned up my hard drive using an app. called OmniDiskSweeper.
I deleted what I thought was an extra copy of Adobe Reader 9.
Today, I tried to open an pdf file on a website and just got a dark page.
I tried several different websites with the same result.
I was able to open existing pdf files located on my desktop.
I then downloaded and reinstalled both Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Reader 10.1.3 .
I am still unable to open and view pdf files on web sites. -
Can't view PDF files using Acrobat Reader X
We made many PDF files available on our Web site. In the past few weeks we noticed that users who were using Acrobat Reader X and Internet Explorer 8 or 9 were not able to view some PDF files. Basically, when they clicked a link to display a PDF file, the screen would be cleared and the status bar showing "Loading ...KB/...K/B" would be displayed. The status bar would move a bit and then got stuck. The PDF file would never be displayed. Sometimes, my users could click the Back button to go back the previous Web page and sometimes they had to close or kill the IE window. Small PDF files seemed to be fine. I was able to repeat this problem on PCs running Windows XP and Windows 7. I also tested clicking the same PDF files with PCs installed with Acrobat Reader 9 and I was not able to cause the problem to occur, so I am pretty sure that this problem is related to Acrobat Reader X. I also noticed that if I unchecked the "Display PDF in browser" option in Acrobat Reader X so that PDF files would not be displayed inside the Internet Explorer window, I would be able to view all PDF files without any problems.
I also did an experiment by resaving many PDF files using Acrobat Pro (Reduce File Size...) to be compatible with Acrobat 8 or above. I was able to open these PDF files using Acrobat Reader X but when I used a PC with Acrobat 9, it would get stuck instead. Most of my PDF files were created a long time ago and we usually made it compatible with Acrobat 5 or above.
I saw that some people reported some problems with Acrobat Reader X but I did not see a solution except uninstalling Acrobat Reader X and installing an old version of Acrobat Reader instead. Anyone has any ideas why this is happening and how to fix this problem?
RJSounds like you got the trial of Acrobat. Go to add/remove programs, get rid of it, the download the free Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Unable to view PDF files in Infoview
I am unable to view pdf files in InfoView (Business Objects Edge Series XI 3.0)
When I select the pdf file from Infoview, I receive the message 'Do you want to save this file' which only allows me to save the document to a location on my computer.
Other users can view the file in Infoview, so it probably relates to a setting on my computer.
Any ideas?
ThanksI've had a little look on Adobe's knowledge base; try this to check whether the issue is related with opening PDF in your browser in general:
"Determine if the web browser can open the PDF file from your local hard drive rather than from the web:
In the web browser, choose File > Open (or Open File).
Choose All Files from the Files Of Type pop-up menu (Windows)
Click Browse
Select the PDF file you saved in step 1 of task 5, and then click Open to open the PDF file. If Acrobat or Adobe Reader displays the file, but won't display it on the web, the web server has a problem serving the PDF file. Contact the webmaster of the site from which you downloaded the PDF file."
If so, try the troubleshooting steps mentioned here:

Upon upgrading to Lion, I can no longer view pdf files unless downloaded and then opened. When attempting to view pdf files in Safari all I get is a black screen. I am able to download most files and then view, but some sites don't have that option. Is this a problem that Apple needs to address or is there something that I can do to resolve this issue?
Another issue that I can't seem to fix and I think first appeared with Snow Leopard is that whenever I open Safari I get a message about my version of Safari doesn't support Community Toolbar although have upgraded my browser whenever a new version is availalbe.
Thanks for any help on these issues.I can try to help you with the second part:
That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!
Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
/Library/Application Support/Conduit
/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.
If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:
Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
Library/Application support/conduit plugins
Also, as mentioned by Gilli2000:
Library/Receipts - If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".
Maybe it is harmless, but trash those items anyway!
Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery. -
Problem viewing pdf files when browsing
Help! Ever since downloading the lates Adobe and purchasing it, I can't view a pdf file at all from any site without first saving it somewhere. If I just click on it, it won't open -- it makes me save it to a file first. That never happened before. After I download it and save it, then I can view it. Is there a setting I need to change or something? Thanks...
Hi Randy,
Try this:
- Quit Safari completely (Safari menu > Quit)
- Launch the Terminal application (Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
- Enter the following command and then press return:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool NO
- Close the Terminal window
- Restart Safari
- Try another PDF file and see if they now open in Safari. -
Colors not displaying when viewing PDF files
Recently I've discovered that when viewing PDF files I'm not seeing all of the colors in the charts. This is happening with PDF files that I made as recently as last year (when everything looked fine). It's also happening with files that other people at other organizations have made. If I go to a coworkers computer and pull up the files, I can see everything just fine. Also, when I print the files, everything comes out just fine. Any ideas as to why I'm not seeing things correctly on my machine? I'm using a Dell laptop, Windows 7, Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, Microsoft Word 2010. I've also been having problems with graphics disappearing when converting Word files to PDF files but that's a topic I'll post on the Acrobat page. Seems like it may all be related to my new laptop. Thanks.
Attaching an image of what I see when I view the PDF file and a screen shot of the Word file with the color in which does print even though I can't see it. I can see some of the colors in the PDF file but not all of them.Hi,
The problem with ie9 or ie8 gets more complicated, since the alt key works on some files, one example is:
http://www.instrulog.dk/download/manualer/humanware/focus-14-manual
The files where it does not work are placed on sites that require sign in with a digital signature, so it is impossible to give urls to the files.
With screen readers and with pdf files in the browser, the normal way of getting to the
address bar does not work, but that is not really a problem but a minor irritation, and not a new behavior.

Viewing pdf files in Mountain Lion
Every since loading Mountain Lion on my iMac (Intel Core i5), I have not been able to view pdf files thru Safari or Firefox. I needed to get an IRS form 1040X and there are multiple sites where you can download/view that form, but everytime it comes up as a black screen. I have a Gateway notebook so I tried it there and the pdf displays great and you can download it and use it with no problems.
Is there some plug-in I am missing or something I need to install?
Thanks for any help.I wish I could say it helped, but it did not. I do not have Acrobat 6 or Acrobat 7. I have Adobe Reader 10.1.3.
I did a "find" for acrobat and found a preference that i moved to the trash it case it was a holdover for when I had acrobat, then I did a restart and the problem is still there. -
Safari & Firefox behaving badly when viewing pdf files
Since upgrading my Mac to Lion, Safari and Firefox have not displayed pdf files for viewing.
SAFARI: When I click a pdf link in Safari, a dark grey blank page appears. When I try to save the pdf file to my desktop, an error message says the file is not properly formatted.
FIREFOX: When I click a pdf link in Firefox, a white blank page appears. I can successfully save the file to my desktop, and in turn open the file using Acrobat.
CHROME: Everything works normally...no problems found when viewing pdf files.
I tried dumping the plist file for both Safari and Firefox, and resetting both browsers clearing them of cache, etc., but none of that worked.
Has anyone else seen similar behavior? Anyone have a solution?
I have posted this problem twice in Apple's Safari Forum, but have had no response in almost two months.
ThanksIn Safari you to have the Acrobat PDFviewer plugin installed, or the The PDFBrowser plugin by Schubert of Germany Installed.
If you use the PDFBrowser Plugin you need the 2.4.2 version in order to work with the version 5.1 of Safari and 2.2.3 version for Safari 5.05 and lower.
In FireFox version 3.6.X and lower you need version of the PDFBrowser Plugin version 2.2.3 which also works with Safari 5.05 and lower. And version 2.4.2 for Safari 5.1 and above and FF 4.0 and above, and Seamonkey version 2.3 and above.
THE ADOBE PDFVIEWER PLUGIN has only worked with OSX for Safari. Adobe quit supporting any other browsers on the Macintosh with the roll out of OSX years ago except for Safari. And despite repeated request by many users, its gone on deaf ears.
As a result This Schubert fellow from Germany has had to fill the void. It works on "any" browser on the Market for Mac. And works for any browser for Windows except Internet Explorer.
The only thing it doesn't do is online forms which the Acrobat Plugin will. But since it only works with Safari its Useless. I'm not going to Crank up Safari just to fill in Forms.
Oh, you use to be able to install both plugins and would work fine. Now if both are installed neither works. Its either use the one that works on one Web Browser and allows form filling.
Or use the one that works on everything, but can't do forms. Oh Schubert on his Web site explains his is forbidden from installing support for forms.
