Viewing photo folder as a picture.

When I bought my mac last week in the shop the genius had all his phptps on one folder. In that one folder he has, say 30 different folders all with photos in them. Now instead of viewing the folder as a folder, he was viewing the folder as a pic, one of the pics in that particular folder. How is this done.
I have over 50 folders of pics, holiday, car, kids, wedding and wanted to view them as pictures instead of the boring folder view
I hope you understand?
Thanks

TO be honest I dont think it was coverflow. I could see on the screen 20 or so different folders, thumbnails, and they were all different photos instead of folders. EG. Instead of 1 lot being a boring folder view the pic was of a photo in the folder itself. So for eg when looking at the screen I click on a wedding pic and it opens the wedding folder. etc
It is as if the folder (boring blue folder) has been changed to one of the pics inside that particular folder. So instread of looking at a page full of boring blue folders you are looking at different photos and behind all those photos is the folder they represent

  • HT4236 I've just tried to sync a photo folder from 'my pictures' to my Ipad but I can't find where they are or if it's worked. Please help

I've followed the instructions to sync a photo folder from 'my pictures' to my Ipad but can't now find it so not sure if it's worked or not. Please can anyone help?

If you've succesfully synced photos over then they should be in the iPad's Photos app - the folder should get it's own album under the Albums button at the top of the app. If it hasn't worked then the instructions that I usually give for syncing photos are :
If you are on iTunes 11 on your computer then you may want to re-enable the left-hand sidebar via control-S on a PC, which might make it easier to navigate and my instructions may make more sense. To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on that left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.

  • All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the Finder pictures folder? It seems crazy to have them duplicated (all are backed up externally). And are they full size images in iPhoto?

All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the finder picture folder? It seems crazy to have them dupllcated ( all are backed up anyway). And are they the full sized images stored in iPhoto?

Assuming you have iPhoto set to the Default setting, then yes, your full sized photos are copied into the iPhoto Library and so you can delete your own stored in the Finder.
Easiest way to check:  Select a photo in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Is it stored within the iPhoto Library? You can tell easily in the Finder's column view.
    As an FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • I'm getting the error message "Photos folder syncing has been disabled for the iPhone my iPhone because the folder "Pictures" cannot be found."

I'm getting the error message "Photos folder syncing has been disabled for the iPhone <my iPhone> because the folder "Pictures" cannot be found." lately.
Normally, all I do with photos is move them from my iPhone to my computer's (Windows 7) hard drive. I do this by connecting the iPhone with the cable, a box pops up on the screen asking me what I want to do, and I choose "Import pictures and videos". I've previously selected the "delete photos from the device after move" option (or however it's worded...), simply because I don't want this device to fill up with photos.
Lately, it has been importing the photos fine, but it won't delete them from the iPhone. This used to work just fine, now it doesn't work and I don't know what changed, if anything. In iTunes, I get the error message I list at the beginning of this message.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi there scarbo59,
You mentioned that you are still able to import without issues, but you may still want to run through the troubleshooting steps outlined in the article below.

I shared a photo stream of 174 pictures but only 20 are showing up in the folder that was sent out. Any solutions?
    Help much appreciated!

Upload to the shared Photo Streams can take a long time. Sometimes hours. Did the photos appear by now in the stream?
Is the iCloud status o.k. ( iCloud Support webpage)?
Did you share from your mac or from a mobile device? And where are you checking the stream? On your Mac? If you are uploading from a mobile device - is the battery fully charged? Uploading to the Photo Stream is the first that will be suspended, if the device needs charging.
have ypu exceeded any limits? Daily hourly upload rates? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858

Thanks, Eric. I'm not sure what I should be checking using your suggestion--as I said, I'm an utter novice with the iMac. However,  I saw a reference to problems with the Library entries, so I checked mine and the iWork files were missing, something confirmed when I checked the crash log. In desperation, I did another software update, and that seems to have fixed the problem completely. Now wondering if I dare upgrade to Lion!

  • Hi I currently have about 20,000 photos in I photo, which the 'info' displays as being 68GB's worth. However the I Photo Library with the Pictures Folder displays it's size as 341.21GB ... Why would that be? How do I look at what's in the I Photo Library?

Hi I currently have about 20,000 photos in I photo, which 'info' displays as being 68GB's worth. However the I Photo Library within the Pictures Folder displays it's size as 341.21GB ... Why would that be? How do I look at what's in the I Photo Library to figure out what's happening, and if there's stuff in there I need to delete?

Best to keep the terms clear.
    You export photos from iPhoto.
You move the iPhoto Library to an external disk.
They're are quite different processes. Exporting means at the end you have a file outside iPhoto. Moving means the files are still inside iPhoto.
    So if you say:
I'm currently exporting the  library to an external drive
That reads like I''ve selected all the photos in iPhoto and am exporting them to a folder on this external drive, and at the end I'll have a folder full of photos outside iPhoto. Is that what you mean?
Is it best to have a 'master' I photo library on an external drive for all the thousands of pics Im never really going to look at often - and a smaller one kept on the HD for day to day usage ...
Best? Hard to know. It might make sense on a portable. But if you're on an iMac why do you need a smaller one on the internal? Why not just have the whole library on the external? There is no performace hit.

  • How can see my photos?when i press on photos folder, just can see only albums.but can't see pictures

iam using now i phone 4,  16 gb ..iam new in i phone. i took alot of pictures.but i cannot see any one in photo folder.i can see there just albums.but i cannot open it.if i want see all the pictures,i have to go to camera and want go to camera roll.how can i open in straight away in photo  folder?

You need to read the iPhone User Guide to learn how to use your phone properly.  I've included the link at the bottom of this reply.
Photos taken by your iPhone reside in your camera roll.  From there, you need to import them onto your computer for safekeeping.  You can arrange them into albums and THEN synch them back to your photo albums.
How to do all of this is covered very clearly in the User Guide

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • I need help finding photos just downloaded to Lightroom...they only show up in "previous downloads" and not in a folder in my pictures

I need help finding phots just downloaded to lightroom...they only show up in "prevoious downloads" and not in a folder in my pictures.  what can I do to correct this?

Also, please be aware that Lightroom is not a file browser like your operating system Finder or Explorer is. If the photos are not in the folder you expected them to be in, it is because you (accidentally) imported them into a different folder.

  • Can't view photos

    Hi,
since a week I try to get back my lost thumbnail view in iPhoto 6. I went through some posting here and tried to rebuild the iPhoto library already. No luck. Also I tried to work on the Disk Permissions. That didn't worked, perhaps braucse my photo fiels are on an external HD. The original files are all there and I can also find the thumbnails in their folder.
I lost my Thumbnail view when I accidently deattached my external USB-HardDrive. And I thought it should be an easy thing to rebuild. I would appriciate any help!
    Cheers, ralf

    reiling:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When you unmounted that HD iPhoto was probably writting to the database file, Library6.iPhoto, and it got damaged. Can you see the thumbnails or are there just blank squares there? What happens when you double click on one of them? Can you Control-click on one of the thumbnail boxes and do a Show File in the contextual menu? What happens.
If you have a recent copy of that database file you could replace the damaged one with it and you'd probably be back in business.
You may have to start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from the old library. If it comes to that here's how to go about it.
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
    rename the existing library folder.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from old library folder into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the old iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can't view photos saved on cd from iPhoto 06 in iPhoto 08

When I insert a cd with photos saved from iphoto 06, iphoto 08 opens but the disc wont load in the application and just keeps "spinning" in the internal drive. Have tried it with different cds with iphoto 06 pictures with same result. Any ideas? (The drive does work properly with other discs for other apps.)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You did burn those disks with iPhoto's Share->Burn menu option, right? Are you able to view the disks on the desktop via the Finder? If not and you have access to another computer, try them there. It they can't be opened by another computer then the disks have been damaged somehow or the burning was corrupted.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
