Viewing photos from an SD card

Is there a way to view photos from an SD card without actually importing them to iPad 4 (I'm low on available storage)?

Not currently. Maybe Apple will change the iOS firmware to allow this.

If you didn't import them to Photos or copy them to the hard drive there will be no way to recover them.
How did you view them?

Did it... When I clicked on "No name", a file folder came up and, I forgot to put MacBook Pro in the name bar... That was it! Maybe someone else can use this post Hopefully...

Why can't I transfer my photos from the memory card to my computer.

I have an HP 5510 and can't see where I can download photos from the memory card to my computer. The printer only lets me view the photos or print them, but I want to store them on my computer. How do i do that?

Because there are three copies of each photo on the card and you have the sort order set incorrectly?
That is the overwhelmingly most likely cause - beyond that you actually need to share some information with us since we only know what you tell us and at this point all you have told us is that you have a problem and you are running OS X 10.9.4
what version of iPhoto do you have? what is the source of the photos? have you looked at the SD card in the finder or with image capture to see exactly why is on it? are you shooting HRD with the source camera? what setting do you have for event sort under the view menu? has it ever worked? what has changed? what else can you tell us? why do you think this is happening?

Cannot view photos from Zire 71 Handheld

Newby here
I'm having trouble with viewing photos from my handheld, the "Photo" option doesn't appear on Photo Desktop.
The expansion card is empty (when viewing My Pictures on Windows).
Any ideas?

What version of Palm Desktop are you using? Was it installed from the Installation CD that came with the device, or downloaded from Palm.com?
If you're using the download, it often does not come with the Media/Photo conduits included. Best bet is the version on the CD.

Can I delete photos from my SD card in iPhoto?

I love iPhoto but i can't get one thing figured out. I want to delete photos from my SD card within iPhoto. I don't want to have to import things before deleting them. I don't like deleting them as I import because I worry about losing the pictures. So I like to import, back up on CD, and would then (and only then!) like to delete the ones I have imported & backed up from the camera.
I know I can do this manually in Finder but I would prefer to do it in iPhoto because it's easier, plus that way I can see which photos I'm deleting. I'm sure there is a way but it won't let me drag the photos to the trash.
I'm frustrated and I hope someone can help! Thanks in advance.

Aloha, I have found the easiest way to do what you are after is to set up Image Capture (located in your applications folder) to open when a camera/card is connected. You then have the option to view the photos, delete any you don't want and import them to iPhoto, or your desktop. I have a specific folder named downloaded pics which I send them to. You also have the option for Image Capture to erase card when finished importing. It is an extra step, but I have found it very helpful for not wasting space and not importing everything only to have to delete photos later. Hope this helps. JB

Help - unable to view photo files on SD card without attaching to camera (now damaged)

Hi,I've been using a 32GB SanDisk SD (HC I Class 10) with my Sony NEX-5 since I first got it without a problem. Recently I started being unable to be read the photos on the card in the DCIM folder via the SD Card reader on my computer (a 4GB file with no file extension and non-alphanumeric name was visible, but couldn't be opened or even copied). However it was at least manageable as the photos could be seen on the camera, and in Windows Explorer in date-sorted folders when the camera was connected. Unfortunately my camera was recently irreparably water-damaged so I can no longer download photos from the SD card by connecting the camera. I've downloaded PlayMemories software but this cannot recognize the photos on the card either (it wants me to connect the camera to 'register' it, which I can't). So my question is, given the above information, what software could I use to view / download my photos from this SD card? Many thanks for your help!!!!Nik

Try http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec But I think you've got a bigger problem. Flash memory devices fail. They don't fail all at once, but a little bit at a time. As it fails, it can handle it by remapping memory locations to spare locations. (The reliability of memory devices is dependant on the number of spare memory a device has, and SanDisk and Lexar generally have the most.) But when a device eventually runs out of spare memory locations, it goes down hard, and I think that's what happened to you. Good luck recovering your photos, but I'm not hopeful.

put the card in the card reader, open the card (it should appear on your desktop) select the photos you want to copy and drag them to where ever you want to store them, or copy and paste them. it is exceedingly simple.
alternately open image capture and select the card from the list of devices and import them from there. again very easy.

To sync photos from a Mac or Windows PC to your device using photo applications
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
In iTunes, select your device's icon in the Devices list on the left.
Click the Photos tab.
Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Note: Some versions of Photoshop Album and Photoshop Elements don't support collections. You can still use them to sync all your photos.
If you want to sync all your photos, enable the option for "All photos, albums, events, and faces." If you want to sync photos from only some albums, events, or faces, enable the option for "Selected albums, events, and faces" and then select the albums you want. If syncing on a Mac with iPhoto version 6.0.6 or later, you may enable the option to "Include videos" to sync videos directly from iPhoto to your device. (Requires iOS 3.0 or later).

How do I get iPhoto to delete photos from my SD card?

There was a time when I uploaded photos from an SD card into iPhoto, iPhoto would ask if I wanted to delete the images from the SD card after the upload finished. That is not happening any more. I have been through all of the iPhoto preferences and don't see anywhere to select an option to delete photos after an upload is done. I seem to remember there being a check box in the photo upload window I could check to indicate to delete the photos. I am not seeing that check box any more when I upload photos.
I would prefer to delete the images through iPhoto than to use my camera to reformat my SD card.
I am using iPhoto '11 9.4.3 (720.91)

Trashing the plist file will restore all options to the factory settings, so you should be asked again. That said, it's not wise.
Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use iPhoto (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:
1. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.
2. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds
3. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.

Thanks for your help. The out of numerical order comes before the actual import begins. It happens when first uploaded to Lightroom and prior selection of of photos to imported to the catalog.

I'm trying to import photos from my SD card into iPhoto, which I have done many times before, but now I'm not seeing the "Import All" button to start the import.

I have an iMac, with an SD card slot, equipped with iPhoto '11(v9.2.3), and until recently have imported photos from my SD card without problem. But now, after turning on iPhoto, and inserting my SD card, nothing happens, except that a "canon_dc" icon appears on my desktop. The "Import All" button no longer displays above my previously imported photos and I am, therefore, unable to complete the photo import. Has something changed?

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...
