Viewing photos in an exported file

Once I have exported photos to be able to email them through hotmail, how can I open them to view the photos to see which ones I want to send. I can't get past the three view options of either thumbnails or lists. I want to open all the photos as thumbnails to view them but they just come up as a file folder not a photo.
I hope this makes sense.

Why not choose the ones you want to send in iPhoto, and then only export those?
Once exported, the photos can be viewed in Column View, and previewed in the final column, or they can be viewed with Preview.

  • IPhoto 9.6 does not include photo description in export file

My system is current with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, iPhoto 9.6, Preview 8.0
The caption/description does not export from iPhoto. I have not exported files from previous iPhoto versions expecting the file to contain the iPhoto Caption/Description. This is a s/w feature that I want to use starting today and forward.
The caption/description for my test file is "Test Description". I have carried out the steps required to export the file (see below). The actual result is that the file caption/description is "EPSON scanner image" and not the expected result of "Test Description".
Is this a known problem? Any suggestions or information is appreciated.

The title has been exported, as your screenshot is showing:  It has been exported as the "Title" field:
For the "description" tag click the "Tiff" tab in Preview's Inspector.
You can also see the description in the "File > Get Info" panel.

  • Burning Keynote .PPT exported file to CD for Windows PPT user.

I created a Keynote presentation using KN 2.0.2 and exported it as a .ppt file. Worked great. I want to burn the .ppt file to a CD to give to a Windows PPT user to view. I burned the KN .ppt file to a CDRW disk using Finder. However, the Windows user couldn't view the KN .ppt exported file, error message read, "PPT does not have a recognizable file system". Should I have used a CD-R disk instead of a CDRW disk? Can you burn a KN .ppt exported file straigth to a CD using just Finder or do I need to use Toast, etc.?
    Thanks

    LK,
maybe it's a problem with the name of the .mov. Check if it contains spaces. Spaces in file names often cause problems.
Also, try creating an ISO9660 CD. Choose the advanced tab in Toast 6 where you'll find the option. Toast should automatically enable Joliet extension which is used on Windows for long file names.
Then, instead of burning choose "File/Save As Disc Image…" and mount the disc image (Utilities/Mount Disc Image…). You can then check the content. The content should be shown as it will be seen on Windows.
If the Windows folks happen to have a CD burning program available, you could also send the ISO9660 disc image (to avoid spending too much CD-Rs for your tries (Or use a CD-RW instead).

  • I have finally figured out how to export an iphoto album so that I can maintain the proper order of the photos after burning the file. How do I keep each individual photo title and description after exporting and burning?

I have finally figured out how to export an iphoto album so that I can maintain the proper order of the photos after burning the file. How do I keep each individual photo title and description after exporting and burning?  Presently after exporting and burning each photo is identified by the file name rather than each individual title description.

File name and Title are not the same thing.
Filename is attached to the Jpeg file in the Finder.
Title is attached to the photo within the Jpeg file - as is the description. These are written to the Exif and IPTC metadata on export.
So: File -> Export. Kind: Jpeg or Tiff and Check the box at 'Title and Keywords'. This will write the Title, keywords and descriptions (though not explicitly stated) to the metadata. This can then be viewed in any app that understand this material.
You can choose, if you wish, to also use the Title as a Filename - that's an option at File Name

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

  • I need to export a photo at around 1meg file size, and dont seem to be able to do it in the presets can anyone help please ,I shoot on a canon 5d

I need to export a photo at around 1meg file size, and dont seem to be able to do it in the presets can anyone help please ,I shoot on a canon 5d

I believe Frank is referring to the end use (e.g., for print or on-screen use).
Until he returns, I can tell you that I ran a quick test using an image from the Aperture 3 training book library which was as follows:
Camera = Canon EOS 5D Mark II
    Master resolution = 5616 x 3744 (21 MP)
I was able to export to a JPEG with end file size of 1 MB as follows:
Export Presets drop-down > select 'Edit' option
Selected preset name 'JPEG - 50% of Original Size' > change percentage value to 40% > change DPI value to '300' > click OK to set as current default > Export version to desktop.
The exported JPEG has a resolution of 2246 x 1498 and appears on screen to have the same image quality of the original in Aperture.
Note - I did not change the default Image Quality slider in the Export Preset dialog (which left it at 10).
Basically, you will need to play around with the settings until you find the appropriate values to arrive at an image version you want.

  • Viewing photo thumbnails in an event is there a way to display file info?

    Hi,
When viewing photo thumbnails in an open event is there a way to set the program display file info like filename and date under each thumbnail? Right now I have to look at the bottom left info pane and highlite each thumbnail to compare file datesand it's a PAIN.

Nope, I can get these options when I'm in Events, in a specific Event.
I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly:
I would like to be able to just open a specific event and have the thumbnail grouping display filename... and not have to scroll through the whole list of Photos.
Do you mean you want a text listing of the pics with no thumbnails?

  • How do In Aperture, how do I export a version of a photo as a raw file?

I am taking a Macro class and need to bring files to class in a raw format.  So I want to adjust my photos and then export the adjusted photo file as a raw file.
Can this be done? If so how.

No, it cannot be done.  RAW describes a family of proprietary sensor data file formats.  RAW is not itself a file format, and RAW files are not image-format files.  RAW files must be converted to an image in order to be displayed.  RAW converters do this.
You can save adjusted Images in Aperture in several useful formats.
You can take either the RAW file (use "File→Export→Master", or you can take an image-format file based on the adjusted Image (use "File→Export→Version").

  • How can I burn a disk of photos with a modified file name?

After importing photos from scan device, I use Photos > Batch > Change to rename files.  When burning a disk the changed file names do not transfer with the image but use the original file name.  How can I burn a disk of photos with the modified file name?
This is what I have done so far with no success.
Drag selected photos from Event to Burn Folder where the file names were changed. Burn folder lists file with original file name.
Drag albums to Burn Folder with the same result.
In Filer I am able to change the iPhoto Library > Master > Date > Filename and then drag to burn disk folder and see the changed name but this is a single file exercise without a view of the file's image, but to use the new file name in iPhoto events I have to repeat the naming convention.

    File > Export.
In the resulting dialogue note the "Name" section. Choose to use the Title as Filename.

  • Develop changes not reflected in Exported files after changing PCs?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to a new laptop so installed LR3 on the new laptop. I them imported the Catalog etc.
When I browse of a folder of my library (that I developed on the old laptop just before the upgrade) I initially see the undeveloped picture but after a second or so it updates the picture to reflect my develop changes made previously. So, it appears the import has worked succesfully etc.
However, I then tried to export a selection of these pictures to a new location so that I could isolate and upload to a photo printing site. Once the export was complete I noticed that the jpg files exported to the new folder do NOT contain the develop changes I made.
I am a bit stumped now - I know that before changing Laptops I had exported some of these photos from the same folder (to burn to cd and send to a friend) the exported files definitely reflected the develop changes.
Can someone please help me understand what has gone wrong?
Many Thanks in advance for any replies

Thanks for the response and apologies for my late reply - been away for a few days.
I checked the output format and it was set to JPG - not Original.
But I think the problem was down to my mixing up my catalogs - I normally have my catalog on a NAS drive with a SUBST drive letter and with a backup on the local drive every now and then.
I think I may have opened the wrong catalog (the local one) - still dont understand how the changes I made were still refelected when viewing the file in LR3 - weird!
    Thanks again!

  • Lightroom 4.3, Windows8 export file problem

I am running Lightroom 4.3 on a new Windows8 Lenovo PC (T430s).  After importing and developing the files, I use the export function to limit file size to 2 meg.  After the export is complete, I receive a error message on a screen that reads "some export operations were not performed" and I receive a list of "file could not be written."  Actually, all files are written, but they are not limited to 2 meg.  I run LR4.1 on a Windows7 pc at my home office, and I use the same settings on both machines.  Any suggestions?

I have the same problem LR 4.3 Win 8. Exporting files with LR of any file type NEF, TIF, or jpg to a jpg file. If I want to constrain the file size say to 1,000kb it will fail on a lot of the files. If I export say 10 files it will fail on about half of them "Some export operations were not performed". When viewing the target folder with windows explorer the failed files show up as and icon "PS" where the ones that made it will show the thumnail of the photo. If it try to view or delet these files it tells me that the file is being edited in LR. As soon as I close LR the files become available in windows explores but the files size was not constrained to the size I specified in the export function.  I am exporting to a different folder than the original files are in.  This problem started a couple weeks ago when I updated Win 7 to Win 8.  The original files can be any size, or image type.  It seem that it is always the same files that will fail if I retry doing the export.  If I do not check the "Limit file size to:" box so that the file size is not constrained then the export works just fine except that I end up with too large of a file.  I also use the image size function to size the image and that creates no problems. So it would seem that limiting the file size creates the problem. Is there a fix for this in LR or is the problem in Win 8?

  • Viewing Photos on CDS

I want to view photos on CDs made at a bigbox store ir that has been burned as backup. If they are duplicating photos already in the libe, and I want to review to make sure I have the best and not a thumbnail, how do I do that?gbyahand

To burn a CD for taking to a photofinisher or to use on a PC you should use the Export method. For printing the workflow would be the follwoing:
1 - assemble the photos you want to have printed in an album
2 - crop each to the size you want printed. (If you want different sized prints on the same CD I'd create a new album for each size)
3 - select that album and go to the File menu and choose the Export option.
4 - in the next window click on the Export button at the top so bring up the export options.
5 - select full size files and then click on the Export button at the bottom.
6 - navigate to the desktop and select a folder to receive those files.
7 - now burn those folders of files to a blank CD via the Finder.
This will give you a CD of just jpg files for printing.
If you used the Share->Burn menu option you'll get an iPhoto formatted CD disk that will be very difficult for a photofinisher or PC to user. It's designed to be used by iPhoto as seen here. Mount the disk in the drive and it shows up in iPhoto.

  • Why are my exported files so small with lightroom 3?

I have been editing 10 mb raw files and they are no bigger than 2 mb jpegs afterwards.why is that?
i have been using presets while editing and i reset all settings at some point as my crop tool wasn't working properly.the resolution slider in the export window is at 100%, 240 pixels per inch, and everything else seems to be the way it was before. What am i doing wrong? I used to get much bigger exported files, cca 7-8 mb.

    emi ion wrote:
I have just imported  raw file from my camera, taken at a full resolution of 21 MP. The raw file has about 23mb and the exported jpeg without the resize to fit box ticked 7 MB. I uploaded the photo on the website and it's still not good enough for a 20''x30'' print. I am not sure if other websites accept other formats than jpeg, as this one doesn't. Not that i want to use them but it was the easiest way for me to check.
I am not sure if my client will want a canvas print, i am only assuming they might as they did in the past and i want to know what to do if that happens. I read that genuine fractals 6 pro is good, enlarges about 4 times the original size.
The ppi image resolution required for "handheld" print viewing is higher than that for pictures to be hung a wall and viewed at a distance of  three feet or more.
The ppi image resolution required for a large canvas print is even lower, with good results obtainable a 100 ppi. Canvas prints have a textured surface that reduces the print resolution and doesn't require as high ppi image file. Print houses use RIP engines that process the image file for both paper profile and printer native resolution. These RIP engines use very sophisticated "upscaling" algorithms, which are as good or better than a photo editing software application such as LR and Genuine Fractals. Because of this it is advisable not to upscale image files to meet a specific printer resolution such as 300 dpi.
Your 21 mp image files (5184 x 3456) at 100 ppi equates to a 50" x 33" canvas print with edge wrap. Many print houses only accept sRGB profiled JPEG files, but exporting from LR with 100 Quality you create a virtually lossless JPEG image file. You should have no difficulty producing a high-quality canvas print from a well processed 21 mp raw image file up to 50" x 33" in size.
For enlargements on regular photo paper 150 ppi minimum is required for good results. For your 21 mp image files this equates to 35" x 23," so there should be no problem printing 20" x 30" enlargements for framed wall mount viewing.
What website gave you the "still not good enough" message for the 20" x 30" print and what is the actual resolution (???? x ????) of the JPEG file you uploaded? Reimport that JPEG file into LR to see the resolution if necessary.

  • Valid Exported File

I am trying to import a home video that I created into iTunes but I keep getting the error message "cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file"

I opened the sample pic in 12 Mac and Windows programs and uploaded it to Flickr and Zenfolio, and none complained (see the list below).  I looked at the file with Exiftool and added some sample metadata -- Exiftool usually issues a warning if the file format isn't strictly standards-conforming.
So this may be a case where the file produced by LR strictly conforms to industry standards but has an internal layout that isn't typically used, tripping up software that doesn't correctly implement the standards.  This has happened at least once before in previous releases of LR, and Adobe changed LR to avoid the problem.   I see hints of that possibility in the Exiftool dump -- JPEGs produced by LR CC have 102 unused bytes after the TIFF header, whereas typical JPEGs don't have those unused bytes.
You can test this hypothesis very quickly: Open the sample pic in Photoshop CC (or another editor if you don't have Photoshop) and save it out with Save As at the same high quality.  (Other programs generally won't write those unused header bytes.)   Ask your clients to try uploading that version.
Also, ask your clients for the exact error message (letter for letter) and which software is powering their Web sites.   That could give better clues.
