Viewing photos in date/time order?

I am trying to organise and view my photos in chronological order in Aperture (& iPhoto).
I have a mixture of GMT, GMT+1 and GMT+4 photos and the view set to "Date" (rather than Version Name or File Name, for example).
Although the time looks correct on the photos they are not displaying in order, presumably because of the +GMT variable.
How do manage the photos such that they can be seen in chronological order?
Thank you

I expected Aperture to import the date/time stamp as it is on the picture, not the local time zone whenever imported.
Aperture does, but the EXIF date/time stamp does not necessarily have a time zone attached, even if the camera knows the time zone. That is why Aperture will default to the current system time zone.
You can check, which time zones Aperture is using for your dates, if you quit Aperture and change the date&time formats in the System Preferences to include the time zone.
System Preferences > Language & Region , click the "Advanced" button, open the "Times" tab. Drag a Time Zone  item to the Medium and Long Time Format like this:
When you relaunch Aperture it should now append the Time Zone to any "Date" from the "EXIF" meta data, if you use a metadata preset, that includes the EXIF "Date" field.

    SOLUTION
Open "terminal" on your mac and type the following:
    defaults write com.apple.mail IgnoreSortOrderWhenSelectingAfterDelete 1
(copy and past the whole line)
This will stop that behaviour in mail.
It works on most opperating systems.
    mine is.

  • FCP 6 - How to sort clips (photos) by Date/Time (only)?

    Hello All;
I am trying to do something farily simple (I think) but it doesn't seem to be working.
Here's my situation - I am creating a video slide show in FCP consisting probably of about 250 photos from about four different sources but all taken over about 4 days. I imported all of them into a single bin of FCP. I simply want to order each of those photos by the DATE/TIME. If I right-click, I am only able to order by filename or size. However, it I right-click and select "view as list", I am able to reorder by date but it even though it does reorder by date, they are still sorted by filename so this isn't what I want.
Anyone know an easy way (preferably) that i can order a directory exclusively by date/time irrespective of the filename or any other item which I can then move into a FCP timeline ?
    Thanks.
    Tim

Get a copy of [File Sequencer|http://www.johnnarun.com/file_sequencer>.
Place your photos into a folder and set it to List View, sorted by creation date.
Start File Sequencer and determine a starting number, then point it at the folder of images.
You can then import the images into FCP in the right order. They will be sorted by their new name.
It's pretty much self-explanatory to use but you might want to do this on a small batch of copies of your images first, to get the hang of it.

  • Sorting photos by date/time taken, when date/time created is not an option?

I'm so sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I can't find it on Google or in the forums...
I need to sort wedding photos from multiple photographers by date taken so I can sort through the wedding as a full event. Sorting by the date/time the file was created will not suffice because I had to convert all photos from one of my photogs from NEF to DNG (D610 files not compatible with CS5), so the 'date created' for those DNG file is days later than all the other images. Thus, sorting by "date created' batches all the photos from one of my photogs together at the end.
Is there any option in Bridge that will actually read the metadata and sort by the shoot time of the image?
    Thanks for any help!

There has been a known bug in PSE9 although only affecting raw images and caused by the Camera Raw 6.4 update. The timestamp gets changed by one hour each time an image is modified. I don’t know if your issue is related but the work around is to revert to ACR 6.3
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/915/cpsid_91582.html
The only other work around is to temporarily switch to folder location view, if your images were imported from a single folder. Click on the display button (near top right in Organizer) to change the browser view. If you click on the folder in the left hand pane the files will normally be in sequential file name order which usually mirrors the date/time taken. From the folder location it’s possible to create an instant album, which can then be used as the basis of a slideshow.

  • Export photos retaining date. time and other EXIF info

When I export photos to folders outside of IPhoto (so that these duplicates can be opened by folks who may not have Macs). I lose the time, date and camera information. How do I export JPGs that retain this info?

If you simply select the photos in iPhoto and export them (file menu ==> export) as JPEGs they will have that information in the EXIF fields within the JPEG - you can not see the EXIF data using the finder - you need a program like Preview or EXIF viewer - http://homepage.mac.com/aozer/EV/ - to view the EXIF data

  • Why can I not view photos from my Time Capsule on Apple TV?

All of my media files are on my Time Capsule and I have no difficulty watching movies or listening to music through Apple TV.  I am however, not able to view any photos from my Time Capsule in Apple TV.  If I select a Time Capsule folder either part of my iTunes media files or not, I just receive a message on screen with Apple TV to say that it is loading from my library and this can message does not change, even after 24 hrs.
Having looked on the Apple support pages they tell me that I can do what I am trying to do, but for some reason I am only able to see photos in Apple TV that are in folders on my MacBook and not my Time Capsule.\
A solution would be extremely welcome?

If you are using Safari then you can't as Safari doesn't support the uploading of content, but there are a number of Facebook apps which you should be able to use to upload photos e.g. the 'official' Facebook app

  • Viewing Photo Meta Data on the IPhone

Is there an app in the app store that will allow me to view the meta data tags for my photos? I tried to find one, but the ability to find apps based on functionality in the app store is pretty limited.

Not sure on your exact need but try this site for app shopping... http://appshopper.com/. Much easier and quicker than the App store. There are a few others you can find with Google.

  • Recently added album - photos are not correct date / time order

    Hi,
I've noticed in the iOS8 'Recently Added' photo album that the pictures are not displaying in the proper order based on the date and time that the picture was taken.
They seem to be displaying based on upload time, meaning, the time they were uploaded to iCloud when the phone had a wifi connection.
My Wife and I share a photostream between phones, which means her photos may be uploaded at a different time than mine based on our wifi connection.
This causes the order of the pictures to be incorrect.
Has anyone else seen this and possibly know of a workaround?
This does not affect photo collections.
    Thank you for your courage.

I never got an actual answer to this either. I searched all over the place but never found anything definitive...
I am guessing that recent photos now displaying photos based on upload time is the default / intended behavior... it would be nice if there was a way to make it display in chronological order again like the photostream did. In the meantime, collections is not affected by this at least.

  • Cannot view photos after a Time Machine restore.

    Hello,
I am running iPhoto 09 version 8.1.2. I attempted to install the SL 10.6.3 update on 3/31 and all of my CIFS shares become slow and unresponsive to the point they were not useable. I chose to do a full Time Machine restore from the TM backup I had initiated just prior to the 10.6.3 upgrade. Now the last 40 pictures I imported on 3/28 appear in the events but when i click on them I get the screen. I selected the iPhoto Library and exposed the contents of the package and the none of the pictures are in the originals directory. Why are the thumbnails still present but the photos are missing? i thought about performing a library rebuild, but it does not make sense if i cannot find the originals.
    Your help is greatly appreciated

No there's no point in making a rebuild if the originals are not present. As to why this happened? More a question for the Time Machine folks.
    Regards

  • InDesign will not open files in Date Modified order

I have never had this problem before, but suddenly InDesign will not import/open my files (photos) in Date Modified order. No matter how I select the files or order/arrange the files in the File\Place window, they open in name order. I have 200 separate folders with six photos each. These are to be placed in the InDesign document in date modified order. Someone suggested batch renaming the files using Adobe Bridge, however the files are in 200 individual folders for a reason and I don't want to open each folder and batch rename 6 at a time. I have reset my InDesign preferences with no luck. I am using Version CS5.5 of InDesign, Mac OS X 10.7.5. Any suggestions?

    @Emily,
It usually only confuses a discussion to open a new thread on the same subject.
I'm directing you back to the original discussion you opened earlier today instead of starting another one:

  • How can I sort photos by date taken in Photos for OS X

Photos sort by Moments, which seems badly broken - photos from one date and location end up in multiple moments, while one moment can have photos from multiple dates and locations.  Photos are not in date/time order.
Photos under Albums sort by date/time of import - useless.
How can I see my photos sorted by date/time taken?

I'd like this feature as well. I tend to browse my photos by date in Aperture, but on ios thay always appear in some bizzare random order.
I've tried several workarounds but with no luck. As metadata is present, surely this should be simple...

  • Photos loading in wrong order, PASE 3.0 from digital camera

I have PASE 3.0 and a FinePix A303 digital camera. I took photos on a three day trip to the Outer Banks. When I loaded them to my computer I took advantage of the renaming feature and had each picture named "Nags Head 04-06" and then a sequential number. All the photos were imported perfectly except for one thing. They are completely our of order. I.E. picturees #1 - 12 were from April 16, the next few were from April 14, then some from April 15, then back to April 14, etc, etc. When I do a straight copy from the camera I get all the photos, named "DSCF0002.JPG" "DSCF0003.JPG" etc and they are in the correct date/time sequence. Does anyone have any idea why PASE 3.0 is shuffling the pics into some random order before uploading?
    Thanks. Bob

I suspect that PSA SE just fetches the files off of the camera in the order the camera provides them. But I'm just guessing ...
Anyway, does it really matter what the filenames are? PSA SE will display them in date/time order for you. If you want to fix their names now, just select the images and use File/Rename.

  • File copy/paste adds " - Copy" - how to change to " - Copy" + date/time?

Is there any way I can change the default file copied name from having " - Copy" at the end to " - Copy" plus the date and time?
Before editing files I always make a copy of the existing file so I have a backup. I do this by clicking on the file I want to change in the list of files then do Ctrl C and Ctrl V which creates a copy of the file at the end of the list of times, with "- Copy" at the end of the name in the format "index - Copy.php". Is there any way I can get Dreamweaver to add the date and time to the name which would save me from editing the name and adding the date and time every time. Its a pain having to do this but I don't know any other way to ensure I know the date and time the file was copied. I know that there is a Modified date and time but changing a template for instance changes that and besides the file could also be edited but having the name reflect the copy date/time allows me to have the Modified date/time as a double check. I would like to have the file name in the format "index - Copy20110216 1621.php", the date being the international format and the time slotted on the end of it. This then puts the files in date/time order in the list.

There's no way of customising a copied file name using DW that I'm aware of.
Either rename it manually in DW or use a 3rd party file copy utlity outside DW.
Is there a reason for keeping a hard copy of the last copied date that the Last Modified date in the operating system does not record?

  • The imported clip are not sorted by date/Time

I have just imported a bunch of tapes (mini-DV with time stamp ok) into iMovie. 150gb of video !
I have imported the tapes evenly but now, I want to see all my clips sorted with the date-time order of the DV timestamp. Is it clear enough ?
    Thank you for your help
    Hervé

    This page
    http://www.pachysoft.com/PaneReliever/features.html
    says:
    "Sort iMovie's Clips Pane by:
         •     Original Order (Eliminates empty slots)
         •     File Name
         •     Clip Name (Up to three different columns)
         •     Time Stamp
         •     Dragging rows within iMovie Pane Reliever's main window"
But it doesn't say it's really the time stap from the tape, although I get that impression.

  • Any SAP tool that will perform audit logging views of personal data?

    Hi,
I am wondering if there is a SAP tool or a third party tool  that will perform audit logging of end users when viewing personal data?
The audit record should contain: who is viewing, what data is being viewed and the date/time stamp.
This is required to meet data privacy legal requirements.

There is a T-code SM20, through some requirement can be fulfilled.
