Viewing photos to be imported

How do I view and select photos to be imported in iphoto 6? The window is blank. I am importing from a family member's camera and I don't want all 981 of their pics.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
With iPhoto 6 you can't. Instead use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) to move the selected files to a folder on the desktop and import to iPhoto from there.
This feature was added to later versions of iPhoto.

  • Unable to view photo browser to import photos

    Friends,
I'm running FCPX 10.1.  I am unable to easily view the photo browser to import photos.  The screenshot below shows what I see when I click on the photo import pane:
The screenshot below shows what I see when I click on the under photos to display the entire photo (Aperture) library:
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks!
    Steve

I also had the same problem. Then I open iMovie, clicked on the iPhoto and Aperture section. When I got back to FCP X my photos, Gearage Band sections were back. But the photo section must be selected before you quit FCP X. Then open open FCP X, and the photos en Garage Band and other audio effects will be back. But when you select another section like themes or transitions before you quit FCP X, the photo section wil be gone again and had to start the procedure again to get it back. That is my experience of the missing photos and audio effects.

  • Can't view photos from mobile devices on iMac

    Ridiculous, asinine question here...
In iOS 8, there is the iCloud settings selection which opens so you can modify what gets saved/backed up to iCloud.  On my iPhone 4s (iOS 8) I have the "My Photo Stream" selection toggled to "On" in the "Photos" section in "iCloud Settings".  On my iPad 2 (iOS 8), I have the settings configured the same.
This week I took some photos with my iPhone 4s, which I was able to view on my iPad with no problem.
Today, I wanted to view those photos on my iMac (OS X Mavericks), so I opened iPhoto on my iMac for the first time, read and followed the directions from the following articles to set up iPhoto to use iCloud:
    My Photo Stream FAQ
    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm68e65fcb20
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/mac/9.5/#pht7aaadf50
In the 3rd article above, it states the following:
Turn on My Photo Stream in iPhoto
Open iPhoto and select iCloud in the Source list.
Click Use iCloud.Any new photos that you import into iPhoto are uploaded to iCloud and added to My Photo Stream. By default, photos already in your photo stream (for example, photos added to My Photo Stream by an iOS device) are also automatically imported into your iPhoto library.
To change your settings for adding photos to My Photo Stream or for importing photos into your iPhoto library, choose iPhoto > Preferences and click iCloud. You can also turn My Photo Stream on and off in iPhoto preferences.
Here's my problem: when I select iCloud in the source list, nothing happens, just still shows this:
Can anyone explain why the viewing area is still blank when it states above "By default, photos already in your photo stream (for example, photos added to My Photo Stream by an iOS device) are also automatically imported into your iPhoto library."
I just re-backed up iCloud on both my iPhone and iPad, but still get the same issue. Also, have quit and restarted iPhoto several times.
Am I missing something, cuz I followed the directions, given by Apple, exactly and those directions do not work.
Or is it the way the help/instructional articles are written, like they aren't detailed enough or don't contain little pieces of information that we should know.
Seems to me like there is a problem somewhere in all the confusion at Apple with the OS & iOS, in regards to the designing and re-designing of and adding of new features then taking them away and just overall constant unnecessary changes that are being made, which in my opinion don't need to be made.
With all of the constant changes, documentation, or lack thereof, and/or any type of online help is not being written or explained in enough detail.  Everything I read is very general and vague, then at the same time also repetitive.

Your setup looks correct to me, Chris, provided you are using the same AppleID on your iPhone and iPad.
If photos you take on your iPhone do appear on your iPad, they are in iCloud and should also appear on your Mac.
Your screenshot does not show for me right now. The forum software does not work well with screenshots right now.
It could be a problem with the Mavericks version you are using. Is there a reason, that you do not upgrade to 10.9.5? Photo Stream is usually more robust, if you are using the most recent software versions on all devices.
Try the following: Disable My Photo Stream again in the System Preferences >iCloud > Photos > Options, restart the Computer, and turn it on again in System Preferences and iPhoto.

  • Unable to view photos received via e-mail or texting

    Hi,
I have been unable to view photos that I received via a text message. I do receive the yellow bubble alert telling me to download.  After I hit the download button, it just hangs.  I also attempted to send myself a photo from my work email address by mailing to [email protected]    Again, I received the notification to download the photo and after hitting the download button--nothing!   Am I doing something incorrectly?   A setting to be made perhaps?  FYI, I am running the latest update for the Charge.
    Thx for the help!

Well since nobody here responded, I called Verizon Tech Support directly.  I was instructed to remove the battery while leaving the power on (that's important--do NOT power off!).  Then depress the power button in succession twenty (20) times.  Replace the battery cover and power up as normal.  All fixed!!!    Thanks to "Julius"  at VZW.  Obviously, this is some type of reset sequence for the Charge.
Depress the power button 20 times with the battery still out or after putting the battery back in?

  • Viewing photos from an SD card

Is there a way to view photos from an SD card without actually importing them to iPad 4 (I'm low on available storage)?

Not currently. Maybe Apple will change the iOS firmware to allow this.
Send feedback to Apple requesting this.

  • All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the Finder pictures folder? It seems crazy to have them duplicated (all are backed up externally). And are they full size images in iPhoto?

All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the finder picture folder? It seems crazy to have them dupllcated ( all are backed up anyway). And are they the full sized images stored in iPhoto?

Assuming you have iPhoto set to the Default setting, then yes, your full sized photos are copied into the iPhoto Library and so you can delete your own stored in the Finder.
Easiest way to check:  Select a photo in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Is it stored within the iPhoto Library? You can tell easily in the Finder's column view.
    As an FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Quickly zoom photos in Aperture import or browse modes

When viewing photos in the Browser/grid layout of Aperture, or during import from a camera, is there a way to quickly zoom the photo similar to "quick look" in Finder?
I'm not looking to increase the size of ALL thumbnails, nor do I want to spent time loading the image into the editor - just trying to see if I can do a quick zoom on a single photo as I browse through a bunch of thumbnails to see its details in a larger size to see whether it's the photo I'm looking for.
    thanks!!
    Mark

And, fwiw, note that there is no "editor (mode)" in Aperture. There are several tools to control how your images are presented to you (size, layout, number, distribution across two screens, etc.) -- all of them feature live editing. This is the default.
The "non-edit" mode in Aperture is called Quick Preview. Use the "p" key to toggle this on and off. When on (in Quick Preview mode), Aperture will load only your previews (and all adjustments are disabled). If you are being held back from doing non-editing administrative tasks while waiting for images to load ("Loading" pops up on screen), Quick Preview will do as much to eliminate the delay as anything.
You control the size of your Previews via Aperture Preferences. There are many things which go into making a good choice here, but either "half size" or "fit within {the longest dimension of any of your monitors}", with compression set to 8 or 9, is a good place to start.
Zooming of images while setting up an import seemed to be disabled when the card is in the camera. If you have a card reader, or transfer the images to disk and then import, you should be able to zoom from the import dialog.

  • Photos indicated in import dialogue as previously imported are not found in catalogue

    Hey there,
I have a photo that I imported recently.  When I search my catalogue for the original NEF file, Lightroom tells me no such photo exists (the find function finds no hits).  So when I try to reimport the photo, lightroom grays out the photo in the import dialogue window, telling me that that photo already exists in the catalogue.  Though it apparently exists in the catalogue, why can't lightroom locate it? Why can't I view it?
Secondly, if I import photos the same way every time (import--copy--original NEF files into catalogue as originals, not as dng), why do XMP files irregularly accompany some files?
    Thanks

    Hey Hal,
Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately my problem is not an issue with stacking.  I'll try to clarify a bit more.  I have a file (_DSC9805.nef) and its photoshop edited '.TIF' version imported to and saved onto an external hardrive.  When I search for the files, they appear in my macintosh finder directory.  In lightroom, however, the photo doesn't appear--neither when I search for it by sorting photos by capture time, nor when I explicitly search the photo's exact file name; lightroom tells me "no photos mach the filter."  In the case that lightroom lost the photo from the catalogue, I tried reimporting the photo.  This didn't work because lightroom won't allow me to import the photo; the thumbnail is grayed out because the photo file is purportedly already in lightroom.  Could my version of lightroom have a bug or an update failure that perturbes the catalogue like this?  It's like lightroom doesn't recognize it's own photo.  It doesn't even go so far as to indicate a missing photo with a question mark.  It's just not there except for when I try to reimport.  I'm 100% certain I've not made a personal error in my search querries and such, as i've done the search a number of times.  The photo shows up in the macintosh finder, but not the LR catalogue after importing...  Any other ideas or thoughts?
    Thanks

  • Can't view photos or slideshow

sorry, i'm a real beginer - my photos seem to be imported into iphoto beacause i can see the thumnails, but when i run slideshow there are no images. what have i done wrong. thanks for help.

    QueenieLady,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Inside those Year-based folders (2003, 2006, 2007) are folders with the same names as the Film Rolls in your iPhoto library. Those roll-based folders should contain your actual image files. iPhoto doesn't always deal properly with importing folders that contain subfolders. So drag each roll-based folder into the iPhoto window, and a Film Roll will be created for them in your new library.
The iPhoto Window is the main viewing area, as seen inside the iPhoto application. With a new library, it is the large empty area of the screen. If you drag the lower-right corner of that window so that it occupies about half of your monitor, you can then click back and forth between the folders you are importing from the Finder and the iPhoto window. Select the roll folders from the Finder window, then drag them over the iPhoto window and drop them there. iPhoto should then indicate to you that photos are being imported.
I hope this helps. Post back if you have more questions or would like to see pictures to illustrate this.
    Regards.

  • Multiple Libraries - Can't view photos - help!

I created another library so that I could organize my personal photos from work photos. I imported all my photos into the second library, named it differently from the original IPhoto Library. I can view all these photos just fine. I looked up in the help section how to switch back and forth from library to library. However, this doesn't work. I cannot view all the photos from my original library. When I go to the finder/pictures, I see the original folder and everything seems to be there.
I searched through the topics looking for this problem. I saw a lot of problems that were similar. I've tried holding option/shift/command and choosing the library. When I choose the original library I can see all the album folders that I created but there are no pictures in any of them.
I also tried to rebuild but that is not working.
How do I get these photos back into the original library so that I can see them in IPhoto? I am using IPhoto6. Thanks!!!!!!
    Michele

Yes, it looks just like that. However, I don't always get the "choose library" option when pressing the option key when opening IPhoto. For some reason, I have to move the IPHOTOLibrary to the desktop (or another folder) to be able to choose the library that I want. After choosing my original library (IPhotoLibrary) it then loads all of the albums/folders that are located in the left of the window. It just doesn't load the photos in them. I haven't done anything to the original folders that were created in the IPhoto Library either. They have been left as they were originally created.

  • View photos in preview?

How can I view photos in Preview or alternative programs prior to importing to Iphoto?

    Highlight the photo file>File>Get Info>
In the Get Info window, scroll down to "Open with:"
Select Preview to open the photo file.
Click the "Change All..." button if you want to "Use this application to open all documents like this.”

  • Can the IPAD be used as a monitor to view photos from Camera?

I do a lot of underwater photos and video.  I would like to use use the IPAD to review the days shoot while on the boat, in the hotel or on the plane.  I would rather not download all of the photos to the IPAD--although I do have the Lightning to SD card.  Is there any way to simply view photos and videos from my camera or the SD card without downloading?  You can do that on a TV--why not on an IPAD?

I believe you can do that.  When you first plug in the SD card using the Camera Connection Kit, I believe you will see on the iPad all the photos on that SD card.  You will have an option to import them, or a selected subset of photos.  Just stop there and don't do the import.  Would that solve your problem?

    Hi ryan,
You can use automator to rename your files, BEFORE you import them into iPhoto. Doing so while they are already imported into iPhoto and iPhoto's database will cause iPhoto to lose the links between the thumbnails and the images.
