Viewing Photoshop Elements 9 Albums - Oversized Photos

Minor Bug:
When viewing album images with the display setting on "Ken Burns", Panoramic and other odd-sized images (eg: greater that 16:9 ratio) display poorly on screen due to AppleTV attempting to fit image height to screen.
Workaround: Standard viewing setting works properly.

I always regard Ken Burns effect as cropping and panning using the aspect ratio of the display connected. It's hard to see how it could do much else with panos unless you wanted the pano partially cropped and moving around with black space above and below - I'm not sure that would be aesthetically pleasing rather than just looking odd, but it depends what you're trying to achieve I guess.

  • Viewing Photoshop Elements 9 Albums - Stacked Photos

Elements 9 will allow you to stack photos, this is useful if you have edited an original and want to keep both versions. When I have photos included in an album that are part of a stack, Apple TV (new version) displays all images from that stack, not just the top image. Maybe this is a limitation of the Photoshop API, but It bears looking into as a bug fix.
The work-around for now is to copy the top image in the stack to another folder and just include that in the album.

To be honest this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
I think you may be expecting a bit much from the AppleTV to discriminate the top version of a stack, it may simply look at a folder and harvest images from there rather than interrogating any kind of album database that PSE 9 has. Long time since I used PSE mind you, it may be that AppleTV does use some API to interact with it, in which case you may be in with a chance of a fix. I suspect apple's own suites behave better in this regard, but I don't know for certain.
Anyhow worth sending feedback to Apple here:

    Good luck with a resolution.

I have now downloaded all the pictures in my camera directly into PSE Organiser. The pictures are all in folders listed by date the pictures were taken. Are they now safely housed in the PSE program?
PSE does not contain your photos. The photos are on your hard disk(s) somewhere, wherever they were put when they were moved from the camera to the hard disk (might be the default location chosen by PSE).
Can I delete the old Canon programs, which are still sitting on my Mac?
    Yes
And if I want to back up on an external hard-drive, how do I do that? Just drag the whole lot across?
Your interest in making backups is to be commended.
There are many ways to make backups, including the way you just suggested. You can also create a backup using PSE (which I recommend) since it includes the photos and the very important catalog file. In PSE, File->Backup Catalog, and set the destination of the backup to your external HD. Remember to do this regularly.
Sometimes when I've used 'Smart Fix" or other tools in the Photo Fix toolbox, I'm not happy with the result. But how can I 'undo' a fix and revert to how it was before?
PSE should create a version set when you do any editing, including the Smart Fix. Thus, you just need to expand the version set (right-click on the photo) to see both the original and the Smart Fix. Then you can delete the Smart Fix version.
-- I want to create an album "Europe 2012", and within it categories for UK, France, Italy etc. But although I hit 'create album category' when Europe 2012 is highlighted, the category just attaches to the last listed album - something completely unrelated. How do I ensure categories are within the correct albums?
I'm going to strongly recommend you don't do this via albums (unless your intent is to share the contents of the albums online somehow, in which case use Albums). I recommend you use tags instead of albums for this purpose. You can create a tag called Europe under Places, and another tag under Europe called France. I would also recommend you not bother including year or other calendar information in the tag (or album) names. You want "Europe" as your tag, not "Europe 2012". Why? Because you can always segregate by year (or other calendar time period) using the PSE Timeline; there's no need to do extra work to segregate the tags by year (or other calendar time period).

  • Photoshop elements 11 albums won't sync

Photoshop Elements 11 albums won't sync with ipad using iTunes.
I was using PE10 and synced my albums using iTunes to my iPad 3 iOS 6.0 and 5.1 just fine. (itunes 10.7.0.21) I upgraded to PE11 and it goes into perpetual sync when albums are selected. I deleted some albums and added test albums in PE11 and those changes are not reflected in iTunes.
I worked with Apple Care for about 2 hours uninstalling all of the Apple software (iTunes, etc) and reinstalling. That did not fix it. Apple declared it an Adobe problem and suggested I call them.
I worked with Adobe about 45 minutes before they declared it an iTunes problem.
    Any ideas out there?

I solved the mystery. It had to do with the file metadata in the Photoshop Elements catalog. When I moved the catalog (pictures) from my old machine to the new machine, the path (folder location) of the images changed. So, although the catalog had cached thumbnails of the photos to display in Photoshop Elements (which tricked me into thinking that the path to the images was correct), the paths were actually wrong. All I had to do was “reconnect” the missing images (a feature in Photoshop Elements which corrects missing/wrong paths to images) and now everything works correctly (sync in iTunes).

  • Does iPhoto & photoshop elements share the same photo library

Does iPhoto & photoshop elements share the same photo library

By memory I assume you mean disk space. The best way to do that is to move your libraries to external HD's which are inexpensive. I keep my music, photo and movie libraries on EHD's which keeps my internal HD relatively free. My internal HD is 320GB however it still has 219GB free because I manage the internal HD for only the OS and critical files that are accessed daily. Here are two links that show how how easy it is to do:
iPhoto: How to move the Library to a EHD
iTunes: How to move the library to a EHD
If you get an EHD with a fast connection you probably won't see any difference in speed accessing files. If your machine has a FW800 port then use it with a FW800 EHD. Three drives I'd recommend for their quality and features are the:
    OWC Mercury Elite Pro series
    LaCie d2 Quadra series
    G-Tech G-DRIVE series

  • Can't sync photos with photoshop elements 11 album

I just upgraded to photoshop elements 11. When I attempt to sync photos in iTunes (to synch with my iPhone), Photoshop Elements appears in the drop down and when I select it, it finds all the "albums" in the catalog. However, when I select an album to sync, iTunes indicates 0 photos are available in the album.
I'm running photoshop elements 11, iTunes 11.0.1.12, Windows 8 Pro.
    Any thoughts?
Oh, and if I try to sync "all photos and albums" it still reports that there are "0 photos" available to sync.
I've tried to make new albums, which iTunes "sees" the names, but there are "0 photos" available to sync.
I've also tried to sync with a folder (file system) which works just fine.
    Any thoughts?

I solved the mystery. It had to do with the file metadata in the Photoshop Elements catalog. • Import Photoshop Elements 9 Albums into iPhoto '11 Albums

    Hi,
I have about 10,000 pictures organized into albums on Photoshop Elements on my PC, and I'd like to move them all into iPhoto on my iMac, and retain all the album organization.
I've tried this process several times, and I am able to transfer the photos, but I loose all of the album organization in the process. I followed the steps for Photoshop to iPhoto conversion at the bottom of this post (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080702225914AAmKVhU), but what I get in iPhoto is just an organization by the folder on the hard drive, no albums.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks Terence, but my Photoshop Elements Albums are organized by a combination of date and topic (e.g. "2006: Christmas") so using the Photoshop Elements Organizer I can't easily find the underlying folders that the photos in an album are from, to be able to drag them anywhere.
Also, I tried just dragging an Album directly from the PSE Organizer into iPhoto, but it doesn't work -- it won't allow me to drop it there and it doesn't create an iPhoto album.
I think what I'm going to try next is creating keywords in PSE that match my Album names then exporting those keywords into the JPEG files. I believe iPhoto can read those tags on import of the files and I can re-create the albums manually. Still this is alot of work, and might be easier to just purchase the Mac version of PSE 9.
Lastly, I just remembered that PSE Organizer saves information about edited photos for me -- i.e. when I edited a file I only see the latest rev in the Organizer and the original files are hidden from view (they call it a "stack"). I doubt that iPhoto is going to recognize this, so I think I'm going to end up with duplicates of any photos that I edited.
Any ideas on how to avoid this without having to manually find all the edited files and archive them somehow?

  • Have used Photoshop Elements and Album 2.0 for years

Album and Elements 2.0 have been good for my use for many years. Have now upgraded to a new Windows 8 computer and migrated data and programs from a 10 year old XP system. What will happen to my 7,500 photos if I upgrade to PSE 11? Took a long time to reconnect the photos after the migration.

If you have successfully installed PSA2 on W8 then it will be possible to convert your catalog to the PSE11 database format, as part of the installation process.
Why not download the 30 day free trial and give it a try.

  • Open Raw image in Photoshop Elements 6 from I Photo 09 plug in procedure

I am currently importing my photos into IPhoto 09 and editing in Elements 6. I now want to start using raw format but need the procedure for the plug in. I believe I have to manually copy the plug in in the root library but can't find the instructions. Can someone help?

I found the instructions I was looking for on the internet, see below. I downloaded the Raw Plug In for my Camera 4.4.1 followed the instructions below and now when I pick edit in IPhoto09 it opens the Elements Raw Converter. You are correct though, when I finish with converter and open elements for additional editing and save as JPEG it doesn't seem to go into IPhoto like the JPEG files I edit in Elements do.
You can download the latest versions of ACR from the Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=macintos h) downloads site.
We have an article on ACR in the next issue of the Photoshop Elements Techniques newsletter, but here's the simple instructions for installing an ACR update on the Mac:
If Elements is running, close it.
Open your mac’s hard drive by double-clicking on its icon.
If you are running Elements 6, open the folder Library/Application support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/File Formats.
In the File Formats folder, find the file called Camera Raw.8bi and move it to a folder on your desktop (or another, different location you will be able to find easily). This will serve as a backup in case there’s a problem with the installation. I usually make a folder on my desktop and name it old ACR.
Open the unzipped folder you downloaded and copy the new Camera Raw.8bi file into the File Formats folder that contained the old version (Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/File Formats). After it is copied, you can close that folder.
Launch Photoshop Elements again, and you should be ready to go.
