Viewing preview slideshow on two monitors

When I have two monitors working at the same time (20" apple flat + my 12" powerbook I have this problem: i go to view a slideshow from preview, nothing appears but a blank black screen. When I press the index sheet button, all the pictures appear in the index format clearly visible. I then press a picture from the index sheet and the selected photo zooms in to fill the screen where for a short moment ( say 1 second ) it stays before disappearing again to the black screen. Could anyone be so kind to let me know how to rectify this problem. But when I just use the powerbook to use preview's slideshow, it works. Please does any one know what the problem is here, and if there is a solution?

Sorry if I was unclear.
Like the screen saver, I wish to play my slideshow on 2 monitors simultaneously (not either/or, one at a time, as your suggestion does).
Screen saver alternates between my 2 monitors, zooming and panning à la the Ken Burns effect. With hundreds of pics, it can go through them in half the time, without having to cut the individual slide duration in half.
I then go to iTunes separately to start a playlist playing.
It appears that when Aperture says that it can make use of 2 monitors, it's only one at a time. I use shift-s to create a quick slideshow that I show to customers; I have to hem-and-haw when they ask, "Why don't you show it on both monitors? Even Screen Saver can do that. I thought Aperture was a pro application."

  • How to prevent energy saver while viewing Preview slideshow?

If you have the energy saver set to black out the screen relatively quickly, it will kick in while Preview is displaying a slideshow. For some other applications this does not happen, like DVD Player. Is this just an oversight? I cannot find any setting for this.

Yes, it does seem to me like what works in iMovie and DVD Player should work in a Preview slideshow too. Too bad that it doesn't.

  • How do I get Preview Slideshow to appear in external monitor/projector

In Preview in Snow Leopard, I could set up a slideshow and use it for presentations through an external monitor or on a screen using a projector. I did this by dragging the Preview window onto the external monitor and then clicking on View/Slideshow. A kind of poor man's PowerPoint presentation, but very quick to set up. Now, unless the displays are mirrored, as soon as I click on View/Slideshow, the slideshow is "sucked" back onto the screen on my MacBook, leaving the external screen blank.
I have found that there are alternatives to Preview available, like Xee, but with the Preview slideshow feature, only the pictures appear on the screen, with all the background being black, which looks more "professional".
Does anyone know if there's anything I can do to stop the Preview slideshow ending up back on the MacBook?

There is something terribly wrong with Lion's support for two monitors, compared to previous Mac OSes, and it looks like you have found another instance of that fact. Oddly enough it seems like QuickLook may work where Preview doesn't. Anyway, I have two monitors and if I move a folder full of images to the secondary monitor, then select the images and right click and then click QuickLook in the Contextual Menu, then click the full screen arrows and the play button, the slideshow will play on the second monitor. If I open the pix in Preview, move the Preview window to the second monitor, and select "Play Slideshow" it promptly moves everything to the main screen, ditto for clicking the full screen arrows within Preview--moves to main monitor and in effect turns off secondary monitor. So give QuickLook a try and see if that will work for your purposes.

  • USB Pointer problems with Preview slideshow view

I often give talks for which my slides are in PDF format (typically produced using LaTeX). Under Mountain Lion I could open the relevant PDF in Preview Slideshow View and click between slides using a Logitech pointer (Model R-RB5). Since updating to Mavericks, however, the pointer will no longer advance slides. It seems to work as expected to move between pages if Preview is not full-screen, or if it's in full-screen mode, just not in slideshow mode (and full-screen mode isn't ideal for giving talks). All seems to be fine in Adobe Reader, but I prefer Preview for one or two reasons, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Everybody, report preview problems to apple at:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
My biggest problem in preview 4.0 is it freezes while trying to view large images across four apple LCD's. Sometimes I see a gray screen.

  • In two page view preview shows the first page on its own

In two page view preview shows the first page on its own. I have recently downloaded an ebook which has image based tutorials and the pages are in such a way that pages 3 and 4 should be seen next to each other. Preview seems to want to have pages 1 on its own therefore making this rather difficult. Any help on resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Try selecting the first page, and then from the "Edit" menu select "insert blank page". This should put a blank page at the beginning of the document, shifting all pages down one and putting them in the order you want for your display.

  • Preview "Slideshow Mode"

    Hey everyone,
When I view a PDF in "slideshow mode" in Preview, I miss two features. Maybe I am blind and you can point out what to do:
    1) The PDF always opens up on the main screen (I have a second screen attached to the MacBook, which I normally would use for a presentation.. Think of a projector..)
    2) One cannot use the Remote Control!? How come I can use it in virtually any other program, including Keynotes etc. but not for simple PDFs?
If this shouldnt be possible with Preview under Tiger, is it possible with Leopard?
    Cheers,
    -Hendrik

Thanks for your swift reply M.
I think I should've been more clear in my post. I'm used to using the arrow keys on my keyboard for flicking through the pages of the pdf and this doesn't work when entering slideshow-mode, it used to work in Tiger.
Your solution is similar to the "Index"-sheet thing I used to do. When you hit the play-button you can't immediately start browsing the pdf, you have to wait until the second page loads, right? After that the arrows are working as they should, I think this behaviour should be initiated immediately upon entering the slideshow-mode.

I had the same problem and it was driving me nuts.  Thanks to conradchavez.com Blog.
Multiple displays: If you put panels (including the Tools panel) on a secondary display and then switch applications, those panels may snap back to the primary display when you switch back. To avoid this, open System Preferences, click Mission Control, and turn off Displays Have Separate Spaces. Mavericks ships with that option on, so if you want to position Adobe application panels and windows on multiple displays you should turn off that option.
You will have to log out before it works.  It worked for me.
    Tankyou very mutch!!!!
    Now is all perfectly funzionally!!!!
    Ri- Tankyou!!!

  • Two Monitors?

I have a 24" Dell monitor hooked up to my G5 Quad. I just ordered another 24" to view my canvas full screen in a monitor all by itself. Will my computer handle this or do I need any special cards?
Does anyone else have this set up and does it work for you? Will monitoring my video this way give me a good idea of what my clients will be receiving?

If you have a video card with two monitor outputs, you'll be fine. Otherwise, you'll need to upgrade. I think in FCP, you view the canvas the same way you would output to a TV through firewire by going to view > external video > and select it when it pops up. The thing is, most people monitor their work on a CRT screen or even a cheap TV. If your clients will be viewing it always on an LCD flat screen, you'll be fine, but the only way you'll know how something's going to look on a CRT screen is by actually looking at one. This is great for being title/action safe, and most importantly, color correction.

  • Two monitor setup

I like my MacBook and FCE to work with my dv material.
The major problem is the limit of the area screen so I think to buy an adaptor to use one of my vga Iiyama 17.
But I dont have any experience about it so I need your advice.

In FCP, I use two monitors on my Mac Pro. It works a lot better and you can spread your workspace out.
Usuauly my browser is on my left monitor, and I have several bins opened. On my right monitor, I have my timeline and my Canvas/Viewer. Sometimes I have the audio window opened on my left monitor, as well as the color correcting tool.
You can edit more organized. It's a lot more fun as well.

  • View/preview giant .psb files

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way or an alternative browser maybe to view/preview giant sized .psb files?
I am now working on files from 5 - 20 GB each, 30 - 50,000 pixels, and am stuck using Bridge to go thru them, which takes forever to create thumbnails, and is often unreliable, as every now and then Bridge will just refuse to create a thumbnail for a certain image or 2 and drives me crazy.
Any suggestions? Am currently using CS3.
Yes I know this is an older version, I just wish there was a more efficient way to preview large files. PS obviously generates a flattened image preview every time u save, but the previews Bridge uses are fairly low res to my eye, yet it still takes ridiculously long to load each one, which I dont understand if during the save that preview image should be 'in' the file anyway.
There's got to be a better way to work with giant files.
Any tricks you power users know maybe?
    thanks!

Not as far as I know, Noel.  If I recall correctly, a single installer runs, without offering any options.
I have both the Ardfry codec and the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack installed.  I have yet to figure out how to tell which one of the two PSD codecs is in play when I am viewing PSD previews, nor how to specify which of the two codecs I want the system to use.  I am not experiencing any problems with the two PSD codecs installed though, so they appear to play nicely together.
On a side note, Ardfry provides a free plug-in for Directory Opus which adds support for their codec, enabling viewing and thumbnail generation of PSD/PSB within that excellent file explorer.

  • Hook two monitors to MacBook Pro

I'm new to this posting questions so please bare with me if you have seen my post before.
I've have posted this question twice but can't find either post to see if someone has responded.
    I recently bought a MBP with 1 Firewire800 port; 1 Thunderbolt port; 2 USB3 ports.
I want to hook two monitors to the MBP and I have been looking at the Belkin hub that has 1Firewire800 port; 2 Thunderbolt ports; 3 USB3 ports.
I want to know of I can connect my MBP via the Firewire800 port to the Belkin hub Firewire800 port? That would leave  on the Belkin hub 2 Thunderbolt ports to hook up the two external monitors.
I also have a printer; scanner; DYMO label maker; 2 External Hard drives; keyboard - so I will need the USB3 ports.

  • Powerpoint full screen/span over two monitors

    Hi,
I have looked around, but I have not been able to find the answer to this question.
I have two monitors where I want powerpoint to display the presentation in full.
As it is now you can only have it display on one monitor (no I don't want or am talking about the presentator view).
But I want it to span over both of them not having to start two powerpoints in windowed and stretching them on each monitor.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind Regards,
    Donn Gwuan

    Hi,
Do you want to show one presentation crossover two monitor at the same time?
If it is, please try the following steps:
Go to Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Display>Screen Resolution>Multiple display> Extend these displays
Go to the presentation on the Slide Show tab>Select it to show on the Secondary Monitor >Check on Use Presenter View as shown below.

  • An internal error has occurred:  ?:0: attempt to index a nil value after installing LR5.5 update and trying to play or preview slideshow

An internal error has occurred:  ?:0: attempt to index a nil value after installing LR5.5 update and trying to play or preview slideshow. Never had this problem before. I went to forums and see that this is a problem with previous versions and this only occurred after installing lastest update.

    Jeannine,
If you follow the advice of the previous poster Julie Kmoch and then gradualy add presets back in one at a time you might be able to find the one that is causing the issue. I may be guessing, but I believe the issue has something to do with either an incompatible Preset setting (eg a older preset in newer version of LR) or a corrupt Preset.
Say you bought LR2 and imported a bunch of Presets from the internet, cuz 'Hey these effects are cool and I don't have to recreate the wheel', and then you upgraded to LR3 (not a clean install) and now one of the Presets that calls a certain slider setting or value that is different in LR3 doesn't work anymore. This might be why it throws the error, but again I am just speculating.
Location of LR Preset folder in Windows Vista/ Windows 7
    C:/Users/<YourUserName>/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets
If you do not see the folder AppData, you may need to change the settings in Windows Explorer to 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'. To do that in Windows Vista/ Windows 7, open a Windows Explorer window, Click on Organize, then Foler and Search Options. Then click on the View tab and select the option button next to Show hidden files, folders and drives.
    Hope this helps a bit,
    Glenn

  • Extend finder bar over two monitors

is there any way to extend the finder bar (the bar at the top with FILE EDIT, time, etc, not sure what to call it) across two monitors? so that the apple and FILE EDIT, etc. controls are on the left monitor and it extends to the right monitor where the time, airport, display, sound, etc. controls are.
I'm pretty sure you can't do this in MAC OS X, so i guess i'm asking if there is any software that can do this.
    Thanks!

I have not heard of anything like that. There are some contextual menu (right-click menu) and desktop customization tools out there, I think.
You can move the menu bar (and Dock) from one monitor to the other and change the relative position of the multiple monitors, just drag them around in the System Preferences Layout or Position view. The white menu bar can be dragged from one monitor to the other.
I always have my Dock on the bottom, and it stays on the monitor with the Menu Bar, not sure what happens when you put it on the right or left sides and you have two monitors.
