Viewing raw images

I have photoshop elements nine and have had no problem viewing raw images when i use my compact flash, but i recently purchased a camera that uses sd cards and when i load them i can't see the images only a white sheet with a turned down corner. I need to figure out how to view these images in bridge as well.

I don't think card is doing anything here. Which camera is this? Every version supports a limited number of raw files and new cameras are supported by latest Adobe Camera Raw. Check out following to know more - http://bit.ly/IUMGIc
Latest ACR version available for PSE9 is 6.5

  • Help with viewing raw images in iPhoto 6

    Hi:
When viewing raw images from my camera (a Canon 20D) in a large or full screen format, after about 5 seconds I see at least a dozen tiny white dots on the image. These occur 100% of the time.
If I "retouch" the image and save it, they go away.
Also, they never appear if I shoot and import JPEGS from the same camera?
Is this a bug in iPhoto 6 and, if not, can someone explain or help me with this?
    Thank you!

I have the same camera so i checked out the raw images--sorry no spots show up.

  • MacBook Pro Retina "Gets Hot when viewing RAW images"

MacBook Pro Retina Gets really Hot when viewing RAW images - somebody has this issue? Solutions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, download Temperature Monitor and tell us the temperatures of the MacBook > http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
The MacBook Pro with Retina display is made of aluminum, so it's normal that it gets hot. However, if the temperature inside is very high, fans will turn on automatically. If this doesn't happen, it may have a hardware problem

  • Cannot view raw images in iphoto 11

Hi there, I have just upgraded to a new imac running Mountain Lion and iphoto 6.
Now I can't view the latest raw images I have taken (on my canon eos 550D) - When I scroll through the images they appear for a second or so, then they disappear and are replaced with empty boxes with dotted lines around the outside, when I double click on them, I get an exclamation mark inside a triangle.
?? Any idea why this is happening? I saw that my camera is one that is supported by iphoto so am confused as to why this is happening.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Viewing RAW images in full screen - problem

I have begun to shoot some images in RAW mode with both my Nikon D70 and Nikon D200 - NEF format. I edit in Photoshop Elements, from withing iPhoto so that edited images are saved back to iPhoto.
When I view edited images in full screen mode from iPhoto, the edited version will be shown briefly and then the unedited version pops up. Anyone know what this is all about and can it be stopped?
Also, I am wondering why, when I right-click on a RAW image in iPhoto, one of my choices is "Reprocess RAW" whether I have edited it or not. And there is no choice to "Revert to original" as in non-RAW images.
    Marion

I think you are referring to minor color and other editing done within iPhoto. I am talking about cropping and other major editing done in Photoshop Elements. This edited RAW image, by default, is saved back to iPhoto - but NOT as JPEG - where I can view it along with other RAW images I have not processed in any way.
Yet, both edited and unedited images offer me the same option when I right click for the contextual menu - "Reprocess RAW." This is the place where "Revert to Original" appears when this menu is accessed from a JPEG image.
When I use iPhoto edit, which I almost never do, it does indeed save the image as "JPEG image (from Nikon RAW)." And indeed I do then have the option to Revert to Original.
Reprocess RAW works in the same way as Revert to Original. It was just mysterious to me why I was offered the opportunity to redo something I'd not done in the first place.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Viewing RAW images from a Canon 450D in Aperture

I am obviously missing something.  When I try and view my RAW images from my 450D, I am just seeing a blank black screen.  Any ideas what I should do to view them properly.

Apple's list of supported cameras is at
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
Historically Apple loses market share due to poor support for newer cameras.
Workarounds include shooting RAW+JPEG and just using the JPEGs until Apple gets to supporting your camera or using Adobe's RAW to DNG converter. Apple canread the DNGs.

  • Viewing RAW images in Aperture

I cannot find a similar discussion so I'll post this.
I cannot view RAW files in Aperture since the 3.5 update to 10.9.  The files import correctly and then when I try to view them in the viewer they turn into a scrambled mess.  I have created a new Aperture library and still the problem persists.  Is anyone else having this problem and are there any fixes?
    Thanks

    Chris,
    try two things:
use the command "Photos > Reprocess Raw" from the menu bar
and use the command "Photos > Generate Thumbnails"
It looks like the thumbnails of your imported images are broken.

    Added:
and then when I try to view them in the viewer they turn into a scrambled mess
Is your scrambled mess red and blue? Have you perhaps enabled "View > Highlight hot and Cold areas" or "onscreen proofing" with an unsuitable color profile?
Or any presets interfering? Raw decode preset, or an effects preset in the Import panel?

  • I have Photoshop Elements 9, just installed Lr and can't view RAW images. help please?

I have Photoshop Elements 9 and I can't view my RAW images. How can I view them?

you can update your pse 9 and hope for the best, http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and you can always use dng converter.
or specify your camera so we can determine whether that will help and if you need a dng converter link, indicate your os.

  • Only thumbnail image appears in Viewer; RAW image inaccessible

I import Nikon D200 RAW images into Aperture project. The thumbnails appear in Browser as normal. I try to view them in the Viewer or Full Page and I only see the thumbnail sized images; and I cannot make adjustments, print or otherwise process the RAW image. The full 15mb NEF image is visible in Finder in the referenced file on the external hard drive and I can access it in Photoshop CS3, but Aperture does not access the RAW file. I have rebuilt the library and created a new library, but the problem persists. Help!!!

Do the thumbnails have a yellow border? If so, type a "P". You're in Quick Preview Mode.

  • LR3.6 failing to view Raw images on Canon 5D

Hi, I've just installed LR 3.6 on my new Wins64 laptop and it is unable to view RAW files from my Canon 5D Mark1.  This is working fine on my Win32 PC though.  It looks like I need to install Camera Raw 5.2 or later but I can only file 'Update' downloads which fail to install.  LH says it's up-to-date when I check for updates and theres no Plug-In Extras available..
    Any Ideas anyone?
    Thansk Andy

Lightroom does not use the ACR Plugin but uses the same process engine which is built in. LR 3.6 is the equivalent to ACR 5.6. If you installed from the CD check the Menu > about to see if you actually have version LR 3.6 installed it should also say the ACR 5.6.
The Lightroom downloads are available at this link.

  • Viewing RAW images in Bridge CS3

After downloading a EOS Canon picture (*.CR2) the Bridge shows the picture correct in thumbnail mode (1).
Switching to Viewing screen mode (2)  the RAW picture starts somewhat blurry but within a few seconds it switches to a clear picture.
Recently this feature does not work anymore. The picture remain blurry
What have I done wrong or unintentional changed?

In the viewing screen and slide show mode problems frequently point to the video card driver.  Make sure you have the latest update.  In some cases the latest update can BE the problem.  If so try rolling back to the previous version that worked.
Another option you can try is to go to advanced preferences and select "use software rendering".

  • Calibrated monitor profile 'clips' shadow detail in RAW images

I've been using the Pantone Huey color calibration tool and like it except for one small problem. When viewing RAW images from my Canon 5D in Aperture the shadow areas are 'clipped' and really look crappy. If I do ANY adjustment to the exposure, shadows/highlights, levels, etc. a lot of shadow detail becomes apparent. It's especially noticeable on darker images. This only happens with RAW images from my 5D, and only when I have my Huey profile selected. Aperture and the Huey software are all the most recent versions.
Even if I turn the brightness DOWN shadow detail suddenly pops into life. So the first thing I do when loading in all my photos is to do a batch brightness adjust +.01, or a batch tweak of the levels by .1. See for yourself... Apple, when are you going to fix this odd issue? I've been plagued with it for over a year now and it's getting to be a real pain. Thanks.
    Example:
    http://www.johnnydanger.net/temp/clipped_blacks.jpg

I'd really like to understand your post because absolute vs. relative black point sound very close.
The terms absolute and relative are used to describe different rendering intents (abs. vs. rel. colorimetric). Black point compensation (BPC) is another option when choosing rendering intents.
The only conversions Aperture does [that are relevant here] are between its internal color space (which is unknown) and the monitor color space and between the internal space and the one it exports into (eg, Adobe RGB in my tests). I have not seen an operating system or application that lets you choose the rendering intent for conversion into the monitor space and Aperture is no exception. Since Aperture uses the preferred intent of a profile for printing it presumably does so as well for displaying (in my case this would be perceptual).
Now since the darkest point of the internal color space is probably lower than that of the display using perceptual, or relative with BPC, or absolute should ensure that all shadow detail is visible. Since Aperture (and other apps) possibly honor the rendering intent of the monitor profile it might be that Aperture is mistakingly using relative without BPC before I check the Levels box and only after that switch on the BPC. Forcing the application to always use BPC or using absolute as the preferred rendering intent might therefore prevent you from encountering the problem.
Does what I just said make sense. No, not really but then I don't really know how these apps work internally. And neither do my printing results with a number of labs [10 10 10] is always indistinguishable from pure black.

  • New update destroys quick look on raw images?

got a new mountain lion update today-- supposedly something about raw image handling??
and now quick look is messed up for raw images, preview also..........it only shows whites.....like all my photos are washed out....the only way to view raw images now is in PS
can i undo the update i did this morning...or is there some other work around?

    1. First off, you must have a backup.  If you don't ALL YOUR WORK WILL EVENTUALLY BE LOST!  I strongly recommend you go to an Apple Store or authorized service center, or http://www.apple.com/usergroups/ and have someone direct you how to find your hard disk capacity, and then determine the hard disk to buy from http://www.macsales.com/ for your backup.
Your capacity is what you want to purchase externally.  Once you have that,
get Carbon Copy Cloner from Download Version 3.5.2.
Once you configure Carbon Copy Cloner to select the source and destination, you'll be greeted with these options:
    Select Customize these settings:
Make sure Deleted immediately is selected in the first pulldown, and Overwritten in the second.
Once this is done, you never have to do anything more than click on clone in the bottom right, when you attach the external hard disk.
I recommend you do this before trying to download the corrected RAW drivers.   When you know this, please come back, and someone can direct you where to download it.
Backing up is not an option.  All media fails eventually.

  • How to view the Nikon D4 RAW images in Bridge CS3

I am in the process of buying the lattest Nikon camera the D4. However, I am still using CS3. I am wondering if I am still going to be able to view and process the RAW images in Bridge? Will I need a plug in? If so, where can I download?

I am wondering if I am still going to be able to view and process the RAW images in Bridge?
    No, according to this overview:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
the earliest support for Nikon D4 is ACR 6.7, the latest and last update of the Camera raw plug in that came with PSCS5
Will I need a plug in? If so, where can I download?
You can use the DNG route, meaning downloading the free DNG converter from Adobe and those DNG files will be viewable in CS3 and you can work with them.
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=Macintosh&product=106
While it is none of my business I just wonder why you buy a 5K $ state of the art top dSLR from 2012 and still use an 'old' piece of software released in 2007 to try and get the most out of it.
And sadly enough CS3 Bridge is known to be the worst version ever, you sure will benefit from at least CS5 but CS6 offers the new 2012 Process in ACR.

  • Viewing Cannon Raw images in Bridge

I normally shoot with my Nikon D3, But I recently borrowed a Canon. When viewing my Nikon Raw images in Bridge, I am able to see the Images. But when I try to view the Canon Raw Images, all I see are Icons. Is there a setting that allows me to see the Cannon Raw Images?
    I am using Windows 2000.

You did not include enough info to comment.
What version of Bridge, and what model of Cannon camera?
