Viewing/rendering log images correctly in Color?

Unless I have missed something there is no way to preview printing density in Color, ie, the image is always linearised on preview, so if DPX image is tagged as 'Log', a log - to - lin conversion is applied on preview
The workaround I am using when working with Log DPX files is to modify their header settings to 'Linear' and set the Printing Density to 'Linear' in Project settings. This way no transfer mode conversion is applied.
I then apply a Display LUT to visualise the print on preview.
This results in a correctly processed log image (without display LUT applied to render), though its header is tagged as Linear, but I can live with that, as other applications generally care less than Color does about transfer mode comments in DPX header
Please advise if there is a more obvious way around this

Silicon Color was trying to "simplify" things, I guess. But certainly there are so many routes to be considered in doing this kind of work and so many individual approaches that one solution is not going to be able to satisfy all. If you supply all the components, but you have to put them together, then people will complain that its like trying to assemble IKEA furniture -- too hard! -- but a pre-built one-click will only be good for one thing and you might as well just trowel on a Magic Bullet look (for example), and that won't satisfy the people who can build their own, but find themselves bound by the limitations of a partial solution.
Oh, well.
Image Preview in Secondaries and Geometry aren't connected to the Primary In grade, its the un-compensated source file, and this behaviour is the same across the board -- you get the same thing with RED-flow, so what you're looking at in that case is the RAW image rendition with no metadata applied. Can make Secondary keying a real PITA.

Event viewer filtered log not exported correctly

Hi all,
I have a very strange problem, or better, I'm missing something.
I can open the event viewer and there are many events in there (45'000). I can filter for the last 7 days and this shows me only 1925 events which is correct.
Now, if I click on SAVE FILTERED LOG FILE AS, I can save the file in XML or TXT format (or others). It's not important the format because the export is incorrect! What I mean is that once the file has been exported to a TXT or others file's format, it contains
just some events, in this case maybe 50-60 events, not more! The strange thing is that in that file I can see ONLY the events from the most recent day in the filter (right now the 14 of june).
Now the funny part: if I save THE SAME LOG as .XML, it doesn't show all the events, but more than the TXT file (in this case, it shows until the 2nd of june), but the last event on the filtered event viewer, is on 13 may.
I hope somebody can help me, and excuse me for my explanation.

I test to save event log following your description with same result. When I save log to evtx format file, the log show correctly.
Then I find KB2417105 (for Windows 2008) to express that logs are truncated because the saving event log operation is not synchronized appropriately with the fetching-event operation.
When I installed the KB2417105, event log saved to txt file successful.
If your server OS is Windows 2008 R2, please install
KB981466.

Do a factory reset .. nothing will be deleted from your backups and you will be able to get access to them again.
The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

IPad wont show .jpg images correctly

My new iPad wont show .jpg images correctly. They all get a yellow/blue filter almost like a negative photo. This is in Safari, Maps,Youtube and every App using .jpg images. Gifs, and png, viewing video etc is fine. Also the home screen background/wallpaper gets this problem.
BUT saved .jpgs from Safari strangely enough look fine in Photos. (Thumbnails stil look bad though.)
I thought it had to be a software issue, but reseting my device with newest OS (3.2) is not helping.
Any others with the same problem?

Thanks for your reply. I have not created any JPGs, or transfered them to the iPad. I just surf with Safari and all .jpg's are getting this strange colors. When starting Maps the satellite mode gets wrong colors. The background on the home screen are the ones that came with the iPad. Strange thing is that when restoring it with software reset, the background is ok. When choosing a new (even choosing the same one) they get wrong colors when going to the home screen. (They all look good when choosing)
It looks like the iPad is not doing the final steps on rendering the images. (And also have a short blink when being displayed) However as I said, all images look good when viewing fullscreen in the Photos App. Even the ones saved from Safari which looked bad in Safari.

LR 3.2 - how to reset images w.o. image corrections to the original state?

I switched from LR 2.7 to LR 3.2 and let LR 3.2 upgrade my catalog. After becoming familiar with LR 3.2 and the new process (2010), I decided to migrate all my images (for about 50.000) to the new process (2010). This worked without any problems. But now all my images are marked in the grid view with thumbnail badges - even those images without any image corrections.
How can I reset these images (only these w.o. image corrections !) to the initial or unmarked state? Any suggestions?

The process for one image is clear:
Check history panel if the migration to process 2010 is the only modification.
Press Reset button.
Clear History Log (optional)
But I am lookig for a bulk process for step 1 ...

Unable to View Rendered Stills in Canvas / in QT

I've read through a variety of related threads on this and the usual RGB / Alpha type tricks have no effect. I'm basically using the Motion panel to create a Ken Burns type effect, and have keyframed everything out and dropped the images into the timeline without any trouble. To that point I can scrub through the clips in the Viewer and see my effects.
As soon as I render them (tried Animation, Graphics, MPEG-4, H.264(which doesnt render at all) I can no longer see the effect I made in the Viewer, and when I play the clip in the timeline the border of the image I'm using shows up in the canvas (scaling as it goes), but the viewer area itself is empty (Black).
My squence settings are 24fps, square pixels (using PSDs but tried JPEG also), at a custom size. I have a video card that's capable of viewing rendered video on screen (Radeon 9800 Pro), and RT Extreme menu shows "Based Layer Only" unchecked, and Full quality checked on the Tape setting.
I don't know though that this is a viewer problem (codec seems more likely) because when I output the rendered clip via QT, the resulting video file is also solid black.
Any advice on the best sequence and viewer/canvas settings to use for Ken Burns type slideshow would be appreciated. I've checked the manual pages on working with still images and though they touch on image size and other items, they don't recommend any optimal sequence settings or give you pitfalls to avoid as far as this sort of problem.

Not at all, "it doesn't work" is not helpful information.
I provided everything we know about such situations: Read the manual, keep it simple, know how to walk before running with scissors, use conventional settings before trying weird stuff. If you don't have time to experiment, you don't have the luxury to try new stuff you don't already know how to do.
For isntance: The "viewer" is not where you will see effects from the timeline. That's what you need the Canvas for. If you're editing your effects in the Viewer, they are being applied to the clips in the Browser, not to the copies of the clips in the timeline. But, like I said, if we were sitting at the same machine, this might be insanely easy to fix. As it is, I don't know what to tell you.

Firefox is not displaying the correct font color on my blog, but other browsers are.

I have a web designer issue. Firefox is not displaying the correct font color on the header in my blog. Explorer, Chrome, and Safari have no problems. The page is in css but this particular section has html code o designate color. The code is as follows:

Though all other browsers display the light orange color designated, Firefox displays white. Strangely, if if retype the code by spelling out a color, Firefox displays it correctly. i.e.

... will give me black. You can see the effect by viewing the link below and looking at the word "blog" in the header, which should be light orange but is not in Firefox.

Actually it also seems to work in the current Firefox 4 beta as it is.
The code is not right though - the correct syntax for the color attribute with hex values is with a # at the start, so:
color="#FF9966"
It might work in Firefox 3.x if you change that.

Problem view TIFF multipage images with ECL Viewer 5.1.3

Dear All,
using the SAPGUI 710 and CV04N, I cannot view the same TIFF multipage image twice in ECL Viewer, the second time, the first time every thing is ok, but the second time the SAPGUI display the error : "File C:Docume1dupondLOCALS1TempZEP_0457895 cannot be created"
To view again the TIFF mulitpage image, I need to kill the sapLogon.exe process and relaunch it again.
It seams the TIFF image file is locked by the the saplogon.exe process the first time and on the second time, SAP cannot rewrite the temporay TIFF image file.
Notes:
- I use CV04N or CV03N to view the documents.
- This problem doesn't happends with non multipage TIFF image.
- Tested on more than 20 computers.
- Computers are with Windows XP SP2 + SAP GUI 7.10 Compilation 2 + SP9 + SP12 + - ECL Viewer 5.1.3 (integrated with Comp 2)
How can I fix this problem ?

Can you upgrade the ECL viewer to version 6.0 and check whether the same problem still exists? you can download from service.sap.com

Cannot view workflow log via Services for Object Workflow Overview

We recently had an upgrade of R3/ECC and discovered a new issue. For some reason we can no longer view workflow log via Services for Object > Workflow Overview for Material Master (transaction MM03). We get the message "There are no workflows that have already worked with this object". However, we have confirmed via SWEL and other t-codes that the workflow and log do exist. This seems to be the only object we have this issue for after the upgrade.
Anyone know what issue is and how to fix?   Or at least path to config in SPRO for "generic object services" where we can see if anything changed via upgrade for this object?

Reason and Prerequisites
As of Release 4.6B, business object BUS1001006 is valid for the material master. Until you have implemented Note 452424, the Generic Object Services is still published for the old BUS1001 business object. After implementing the note, all attachments, relationships, notes and workflow items that are assigned to business object BUS1001 are no longer displayed.
Instead, all new attachments are assigned to business object BUS1001006. As a result, attachments cannot exist for both systems.
For workflow items, the assignment to the business object occurs in the respective tasks. It may be very time consuming to convert the business object, depending on whether an individual subtype (assigned to BUS1001) is created.
In other words, after you implement the note, the workflow items for business object BUS1001 can no longer be displayed in the material master.
Solution
With the following correction you can call the Generic Object Services for both business objects. When it is called, the system displays a dialog box in which you can choose the required business object, that is, BUS1001 ('Material') or BUS1001006 ('Standard material').
This correction is delivered as a modification supported by SAP only. This is because the additional option means that attachments can be maintained as required in either of the business objects and users may therefore require extra training.
However, the corrections enable you to display attachments and workflow items for both business objects without the need for a major conversion; this means that you do not get the impression that these have been lost.
Alternatively, as of Release 4.70 (or Basis 6.20) you can, without making a modification, implement method ADD_OBJECTS of BAdI GOS_MULT_PUBLISH for filter attribute WF_OVERVIEW ('Workflow overview'), SRELATIONS ('Relationships') and VIEW_ATTA ('Attachment list'). The implementation should be similar to the following:

Collection not handling a duplicated image correctly

I wanted to have 2 versions of an image - 1 colour (color ;) ), one B&W. Created a duplicate image and took it into photoshop (as I like precise control over my color-B&W conversions) B&W image saved as a tif. So far, all fine. I can see both images in all views, keyword them, give them different titles etc etc - as far as I can tell, they are 2 separate images.
I can add one, or other, or both, to quick collections. BUT. When I tried to create an actual collection using the original colour image, the B&W turned up. Deleted it from the collection. Dragged the colour one in again, same problem. Created a quick collection with both versions, then tried dragging in the colour - wouldn't allow it as the "image" was already there (the B&W one!). Deleted the B&W out of the collection, dragged the colour in, the B&W showed up. Deleted it again, tried dragging in BOTH images. Only the B&W showed up.
I am planning on doing this a lot - converting images and retaining both versions for different purposes. Why can't "Collections" handle something so basic (when the rest of Lightroom seems to be able to)?

Well that worked a little too easily - renamed the image in finder (OSX) and not only does it now work, Lightroom didn't loose track of the B&W version (that's a bit freaky).
Strange that everything else in Lightroom (except collections) didn't have a problem with the same filename (different extension). Oh well, hopefully something else that will be fixed in Lightroom 2

Colorsync : sepia tone versus sepia image correction

Hello,
When using Colorsync, you can change an image to *"sepia tone"* using a predefined profile. But there's also a "Sepia" slider when you click on the *"image correction"* button. However, they give a totally different result...
The first one gives a result that looks more or less like the ones being taken immediately from a camera with the sepia filter selected, while the second one (from the "image correction" slider) seems totally wrong. How come?
If I do the conversion to sepia in (e.g.) Picasa or Photoshop, they seem to look like the (correct?) "sepia tone"-version. But on the other side, (e.g.) Pixelmator and Seashore give the (wrong?) "image correction"-version...
Now, I'm interpreting them as "correct" and "wrong", but actually, I can't image that (e.g.) Pixelmator would do a "totally wrong" sepia conversion — so that brings me to this: *what's the difference between these two sepia-versions*?
I don't have enough knowledge about this, so I hope someone can help me out here...

PSE 11 - How save image with printer color profile?

I use an outside service to make prints. How can I save an image in PSE 11 in either TIFF or JPEG format with the color profile for the outside lab's printer? Thanks.

You can print a photo using the correct printer profile for the lab printer. In the print dialog box , go to "Page Option>Color Management" and then choose Color Handling as "Photoshop Managers color". Now click the printer profile dropdown and choose the profile for your lab printer. If you are not able to find the profile for you printer then choose "Printer Manages Color"
To your second question the answer is that you cannot save the image with the correct colors for printing. You can only convert the profile of your image to Adobe RGB which matches gamut of most printer profiles using "Image Menu>Convert Color Profile and choose Adobe RGB.

Why are 8 & 16 bit images covered in colored pixelation?

Hi...just downloaded trial vesion of photoshop CC. When I open an image it has colored pixelation on highlight colors of image if it is 8 or 16 bit.When I convert to 32 bit..the image rturns to normal. I have windows 7 64 bit operating system.Any ideas on what I can do to correct this? I am considering purchasing CS 6 extended and of course would like to test everything I can. Any help much appreciated!

maybe i am wrong but i think the if statement within a view is not working correctly. See code down below.
I would like to use the Hallo World depending on the page attribute isFrame with or without all the neccessary html tags. Therefore i have embedded the htmlb tags in an if statement. But for any reason if isframe is initial it isn't working. It would be great if anybody could help me.

The short answer: your example is NOT going to work. The long answer will probably 5 pages to describe. So first let me rewrite the example so that it could work, and then give a short version of the long answer. Do not be disappointed if it is not totally clear. It is rather complicated. (See the nice form of IF statements that are possible since 620.)

What the runtime does not know, is whether the tag wants to process its body or not. Each tag can decide dynamically at runtime whether the body should be processed. So the BSP compiler generates the following code:

You can see that your ENDIF statements are closing IF blocks generated by the BSP compiler. Such a nesting will not work. This is a very short form of the problem, there are a number of variations, and different types of the same problem.
The only way to solve this problem, is probably to put the body into a page fragment and include it like I did above with the duplicate HelloWorld strings. But this duplicates source code. Better is to put body onto a view, that can be processed as required.
