Viewing report on Terminal Server

Post Author: Jerry H
CA Forum: .NET
I've written a VB.NET 2005 application which uses the CrystalReportViewer object and it's been deployed to a Terminal Server.  When the report is previewed, some of the data is missing and some of my textobjects are not appearing.  When I connect my notebook to the network and open the report with CR XI R2, everything appears fine. The report was designed in CR XI R2...is there a compatibility issue with XI reports and the Crystal Reports for .NET framework 2.0?

Hi Hans,
Do they even support that configuration? They really should help you determine what the problem is.
CR 11 I don't believe supported Terminal Server but typically the work around is to copy all of the runtime into the users system32 folder. It makes a mess but it's the easiest way to get it to work.
You can use tools called Process Monitor from www.sysinternals.com ( Microsoft now ) and follow the process. It's likely a permission issues since the report works. The error itself doesn't tell us much, it may be an older database driver problem or missing dependency etc.
CR XI R2 ( 11.5 ) does support it so you could suggest they upgrade, it is free: Go to this link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc and download the trial version of CR XI R2 and use your XI keycode, then apply the patches which you can get to by clicking on the BusinessObjects tab above, then Downloads.

Thank you

  • Get Report of Terminal Server license report

Is there a way I can track our Terminal Server Licenses usage. For example I have bought 50 licenses, are they being used to full capacity or under used. What is the monthly maximum usage. And we have about 10 servers hosting terminal services
in our AD, do I have to generated a report for each ? Is there tool that can do this ? Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For finding active session on terminal server you can use command as follow.
    query session /server:SERVER2
A user can always query the session to which the user is currently logged on. To query other sessions, the user must have Query Information access permission.
    More information.

  • Running Forms on oracle Application 10g(9.0.4) on terminal Server

oracle application Server Installation guide for windows states that
Oracle Application Server is not supported on Windows operating systems that
include Terminal Services (for example, Windows NT Terminal Server Edition and
Windows 2000 with Terminal Services are not supported).
My Remarks : It means Oracle Application server cannot be installed on the Windows server on which Windows Terminal Services are on.
Please consider the following deployment scenario
    Server 1
    OS : Windows 2000
Software Installed : Oracle Database 10g
    Server 2
    OS : Windows 2000
Software Installed : Oracle Application Server 10g(9.0.4) on which Forms and Reports are deployed
    Server 3
OS : Windows 2000 as Terminal Server
Software Installed : IE 6.0 , that will act as Client Machine.
    I have following Queries
    1. Oracle does not allow OAS installed on Terminal Server, will it allow Terminal Server( Server 3) to act as Client and to run web base forms and reports on it.
    2.
In case It allow to run forms and reports on Terminal Server ( Server 3) does it means thin client machines connected to Terminal Sever can access Forms and Reports.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ankur Diwan

The bottom line is that we don't certify running Forms using the features of a terminal server to serve up any part of those Forms. That doesn't mean it does not work, but its not certified or supported.

  • Crystal Reports on MS Terminal Server printing the size of a postage stamp

When I print off reports from our accounting system to an HP 1022 Printer which is installed on my workstation from a MS Terminal Server it prints the entire document the size of a postage stamp?
We are using the Crystal 9 print engine. If I send reports to an old HP DeskJet printer, the reports print fine. If I print the built in reports from the accounts system they also print fine.
    Any one seen this before?

You could try, adding another printer, but instead of using the native HP 1022 Printer , use the drivers from the old printer (the one that is working)  for example, go to (this is Win XP version)
Start, Printers, select the printer, right click, select properties, click on the advanced tab, select a different driver.  Many of the newer printers will still support older printer drivers.  If that fails, you may need to check the amount of memory the 1022 has. Also, does the printer support downloadable fonts ?

  • How to store reports on cr server 2008 and view them from web application

Hi, I want to store my rpt files on the crystal reports server, under "Folders", and then from my web application use  "CrystalReportViewer" control to show these reports.
Now I setup a crystal reports server 2008 on my server, and install crystal reports 2008 on my client develp machine. I have searched some sample codes from Internet, but many Business Objects dlls they used I could not find from my computer, for example, I can not find infostore dll and  Business Objects.sdk. It seems I have to install some sdk to use these objects.
Could you tell if which sdk I have to setup to achieve my goal, or if can give me a sample would be highly appriecatied.

    Q. From your information, it likes this function above can not be done now?
    A. At the moment, the only way you can view reports stored on CR Server 2008 are with the Java SDK or OpenDocument.
OpenDocument may be a nice option for you, as there would not be much programming involved. Please see this documentation for information how to use this. Please note that in CR Server 2008, you will be using Java OpenDocument.
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_url_reporting_opendocument_en.pdf
    Q. can use CR server XI instead, this version has been a while, so certainly has .net sdk available for realize this function, does'nt it?
    A. CR Server XI has the .NET SDK. You can find .NET samples here:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/businessobjects-sdklibrary
    Q.  I download CRRedist2008_x86.msi and install it on my develope machine, from the instruction said it will install lots of .net dll on my computer, but I just can not find them, do you know where they are?
    A. It should install the necessary files to C:Program FilesBusiness Objects
You can find more information about the Crystal Reports .NET distributables in the CR .NET help file, in the deployment chapter:

  • Terminal server User folder view

Hi all we are haveing som trouble in a mixed environment with a 2003 active directory controllers and two 2008 r2 x64 terminal servers with load balancing borker between them
Our problem is when users are logged in to our new 2008 rdp server they get the 2008 one click view on all folders, this is both confusing and difficult for our users, is there any way to change this setting globaly so that the Organize-Folder options is set to double click on alle folders
We have gone trought the local policy settings but cant get it fixed

Ho Kristin Thanks again for your help.
After i changed the Classic Shell gpo to enable, the users have the double click option in the folder view, but it the setting does not change, it is still the one click view.
If i logon with any user  i can see that the folder setting actually is set to Double-click, and that the One-click view is grayed out.
On our Ad controller who is a 2003 server, the Force Classic menu is enabled, maybee this is a issue in mixed environment so our Active directory gpo is doing something to our 2008 r2 ts servers.
I have gone trough all our terminal server gpo's in the 2003 controllers and the only thing who does something with folders and viewa ia the Classic Shell gpo.
So here is our config now
2003 ad controller has Desktop Authority (Script Logic) installed
2003 Ad controller gpo: Force classic start menu = enabled
2008 r2 ts Local policy classic shell enabled

  • Report Builder 9.0.4 and Terminal Server 2003

Is anyone running this config? I'm getting intermittent crashes, and wondering if anyone else has seen the same. We are primarily using Report Builder for non-English reports, but the server's base language is English. Prior to launching Builder, we set the NLS_LANG varaible to the target language, then launch. Most crashes seem to occur in the layout editor.

You need to set TNS_ADMIN to the director that contains the tnsnames.ora

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro - Windows Terminal Server 2008

    Hi All,
Im hoping some one maybe able to help me on this, We have recently purchased the Adobe Acrobat X Pro for one of our clients and have just installed it onto their Windows 2008 x32 Terminal server. Inatall appeared to be fine, no errors reported and nothing logged into the event viewer. However we seem to be having issues with it... I did read a PDF guide early last week that said the X Pro should work fine on a Server 2008 - The install instructions where rather straight forward and I thought their would have been more to it than just installing it via the control panel.
The issue we have is the program opens up ok and is usable for about a min and it then crashes with no obvious reason, From looking in the event log it appears to report issues with the PDApp.exe and the Kernel32.dll - Has anyone come across any similar issues?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
You can also send the crash dump by following the below mentioned steps:
    Install WinDbg from http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
    Launch WinDbg via the shortcut
    Click File->Open Executable
    Select Acrobat.exe from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" and hit "OK"
Remember to press "g" and hit enter when you encounter the first breakpoint and then you will see a text "Debuggee is running" and Acrobat will be launched
Open whatever file is it that produces the crash in Acrobat.
When you have successfully reproduced the sceanrio causing the crash/freezing of Acrobat X, enter the below command in the WinDbg terminal
         .dump /ma c:\temp.dmp (Hit enter)
This will produce the crash dump at C:\ by the name of temp.dmp
After that please upload the dump (compress the dump using WinZip or likewise) at some third party sites and provide the link for the same. Also, if it’s possible could you share the PDF as well, for which your application crashes on a consistent basis.

  • Adobe Reader / Internet Explorer crashes on Terminal Server

I have several Microsoft Server 2008 R2 SP1 terminal server that is used by dozens of users who use Internet Explorer(v8) to view PDF files using IE adobe reader plug-in. There are over 1000 acrord32.exe crash events in less than 60 days.

What could be causing this to crash so frequently? What can I do to fix this?

    Hi Michaeld71937612,
Try terminating the 'process Tree' using Task Manager then restart Adobe Reader, and check the CPU Usage again.
Please make sure that there are no other instances of Acrobat running on your system once you end Task.
I would also recommend you to check for malicious activity on your system using a reputed Antivirus/Security software.

  • Problem with Photoshop hangs/freezing for users on a terminal server

    Dear Forum!
I'm having some trouble with Photoshop freezing over a period of ~20 minutes when you (1.) user the eraser with special brushes and (2.) copy and paste material from a PDF to Photoshop. As you might notice by the size of this post i'm getting quite depserate over here and need some help.
    A Little background information...
Photoshop CS6 is installed on a terminal server with ~25 Active users where 3 of them are using Photoshop.
The operating system on the server is Windows Server 2012 R2.
There are no additional add-ons just a plain installation of Photoshop in that matter.
The server uses 40-60% of the memory most of the time (mostly a bit less, some times a bit more but never 100%) and 40% of the CPU.
There's enough space free on the disc.
    The problem in detail...
There are two occasions where the freezing has occured most of the time. After it hangs for the first time, it will happen everytime you do any of the operations over a period of ~20 minutes and it's Mutual for all users. When it freezes, the whole terminal session freezes but the program i still responding (it's not getting set to "not responding") when viewed from Another user through the task manager. Ending the process as an administrator sometimes work, although from the moment i end he proces it takes about 10-60 seconds Before the program actually Closes and the user gets back Control. The easiest thing to do most of the time is if an administrator forces them to log out.
    1. The first occasion is when you use the eraser with a brush that's not standard but manually added. The names of the brush packages used are:
    Extacy__Elemental
    KKC_Fractal
    Kornkid's_Grunge_Set
and the problem is with all brushes inside those packages. The way i evoke the problem is the following:
         1. Start Photoshop
         2. Create new
         3. Fill the background with any color
         4. Select the eraser tool
         5. Change the brush to one of the ones mentioned above
         6. Program freezes
    2. The second scenario when the problem occurs is when the users copy something from a PDF to Photoshop. The way i evoke this is:
         1. Open a PDF
         2. Select area and copy it
         3. Open Photoshop
         4. Create new
         5. Paste into Photoshop
         6. Program freezes
Solutions we have tried so far...
I've been working on this for several round now and i'm not entirely sure on what exactly i have done. I will try and do the following solutions once more but i'm pretty sure that i have tried most of them.
    Update graphic card drivers.
    Resetting all Tools:
         1. Select options for a tool
         2. choose "Reset all Tools"
    Resetting presets:
         1. Hold ctrl + shift + alt while Photoshop is starting
         2. select "yes"
Tested if it matters if i have a pen connected or not, which it doesn't.
Removed the special brushes (but it still freezes when copy/paste from PDF)
Removed "save in background" and "automatically save recovery information" options
    Updated to latest version.
    Turned off OpenGL
Solutions i haven't, but will try...
    Reinstall Photoshop
    Change font preview size
         1. Go to "type"
         2. select "Font prview size"
         3. select "none"
    Delete system font cache
Close all Adobe applications including the Creative Cloud desktop app (if installed).
    Navigate to \Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\Appdata\Local
Delete the *FNTCACHE*.DAT or *FontCache*.dat files.
NOTE: The asterisk (*) indicates various numbers, letters, or words, such as FontCache-S-1-5-21.dat or COFFfntCache.dat.
    Delete Photoshop font cache
Exit Photoshop and the Creative Cloud desktop app (if installed).
    Navigate to the appropriate folder
    Photoshop CS6 and earlier.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe
    Windows 7: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe
    Photoshop CC and CC 2014
    Windows 7 and 8: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC or CC 2014
         3. Delete the TypeSupport folder (Photoshop CS6 and earlier) or the CT Font Cache folder (Photoshop CC and CC 2014), and empty the trash.
Some links i have been using...

    Hi Mylenium!
Thanks for your reply but since the users work on the terminal server via remote dektop the only data sent through the network is a "Picture" of what is happening on the server. All the operations are handled on and by the server and nothing is executed on the users local machine. Also all files are stored on the server therefore the load on the network is minimum.
We are not the first in the World to run this setup and i know that this is possible to do since i've read about others running PS like this.
    Kind Regards,
    J. Alm

  • SSRS: "View Report" button doesn't refresh parameter dropdowns

So many people have asked similar questions about why SSRS report parameters are not refreshed when "View Report" button is clicked and MSDN simply comes back with an answer "work as designed". It's a bad design, period.
Here is my suggestion to Microsoft team who works on SSRS: either add a "Refresh Parameters" button at the end of the last parameter dropdown so users can force reload the parameter list, or add "Reload
Report" after "View Report" button (which should be re-named "Refresh Report" more precisely) to allow user reload the entire report (as if it was Ctrl-F5 is pressed in I.E.), not just to refresh the main report dataset as "Review
    Report" button is currently doing.

    Hi Steve Liu,
Thanks for your suggestion and you can also submit this suggestion at

    Hi Everyone,
We are having an issue with audio being out of sync when viewing flash video on a terminal server.  The terminal server is running Windows 2008r2.  The audio seems to lag behind the video by about 1 sec. We are planning to rollout training videos

  • User gets "This network connection does not exist" when she tries to log on to Terminal Server (2008 R2)

User gets "This network connection does not exist" when she tryes to log on to Terminal Server (2008 R2)
I got more than 100 users. Shes the only one getting is. We tried four computers (All Windows 7 Pro)
Nothing useful in event viewer to mention.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Does that user able to login previously?
From your comment, it seems that there is some permission issue with that user. As you have checked that user with different system also. Please check that user is added under “Remote Desktop User” local group and also allowed “Allow log on through
Remote Desktop service” permission under group policy. Also please check that when user tries to login it uses “Domainname\Username” format.
In addition for a try, also check by disabling firewall on one particular system.
To add users and groups to the Remote Desktop Users group by using Local Users and Groups snap-in:
    1.  Click Start > Administrative Tools, Open Computer Management.
    2.  In the console tree, click the Local Users and Groups node.
    3.  In the details pane, double-click the Groups folder.
    4.  Double-click Remote Desktop Users, and then click
    Add.
    5.  In the Select Users dialog box, click Locations to specify the search location.
    6.  Click Object Types to specify the types of objects you want to search for.
    7.  Type the name you want to add in the Enter the object names to select (examples) box.
    8.  Click Check Names.
When the name is located, click OK.

  • Crystal 2008, BO XI 3.1, cannot view reports, UserID password dialog shows

    Hello Forum,
We have Crystal Reports 2008 installed on XP machine, and Business Objects XI 3.1 on a Windows Server 2008 machine. We can view sample reports on Server machine in CMC (right click view in report folder)
We can also view samples reports in BusinessObjects on XP machine. However if we create a report (simple report with no parameters) on XP machine and save to BusinessObjects server, then try and open report, we get a dialog indicating 'Further information is required' and User Id and Passworsd test box show.
This dialog shows repeatedly even when we enter credentials relevant to database/report. I have looked in .pdf documentation and forum and not had any success in resolving this. Any help would be appreciated, The report database is SQL Server,
    Thanks,
    Paul James

DB 'Connection' in Crystal Report (2008) and DNS on BusinessObject (XI 3.1) machine need to be the same, to view report via Central Management Console
In .NET code calling report against SQL Server (2008) database, Crytal Connection needs to be Microsoft OLE DB SQL Provider for SQL Server.
