Viewing setails of an Oracle SR on Oracle Support
Hi,
I've found an bug report on Oracle Support that seems to be for an issue that I'm experiencing.
I've got the issue on a version of Oracle though that shouldn't have this issue.
To verify that it is the same issue, I'd like to look at the detals of the original SR (such as the scripts that are run to demonstrate the problem) so I can see if my issue is the same one.
My initial problem is a very simple one, and that's that I can't find how to drill down (having found the bug report) to find the SR and scripts.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John
(For my own reference, the bug is 4680398)

Re-reading the title, I find the question to be quite generic, with the product specific information simply being used to provide a reproducible example. For me, the question (how to view someone else's SR or bug) is indeed valid against any product.
In this case I suspect the call could fall either way.
(The better argument might be against encouraging MOS questions here, but I've decided to leave that particular discussion alone to others (now).)

USER_DEPENDENCIES view in oracle 11g and oracle 10g are different?
I have tested oracle 10g and oracle 11g. And I found some different behavior in the user_dependencies view between two oracle version.
In the oracle 10g, whatever referenced object is populated in the user_dependencies view. In the oracle 11g, however, only valid referenced objects are populated in it.
For example, a package, pac_1, references table, ref_tab_1, and package, ref_pac_2. After ref_tab_1 is dropped and ref_pac_2 is invalid, I query to user_dependencies.
sql> select referenced_name, referenced_type from user_dependencies where name = 'pac_1'.
In oracle 10g, the result is like the following,
< referenced_type > , < referenced_name >
non-existent , ref_tab_1
package , ref_pac_2
In oracle 11g, the result is not showing non-existed object nor invlid object like the following,
no rows selected
Is that the TRUE or do I missed some when I installed database or created database in 11g?
Is there a way to make the behavior of user_dependencies like it in 10g which shows all the referenced objets?

How to view pre-built Dashboards and Reports of Oracle BI- Apps?
Hi All,
We have sucessfuly installed and configured the Oracle Apps, and also we configured the OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd and we are able to view the different subject areas.
But we are facing problem in viewing any prebuilt dashboard or report.
Is it possbile to view pre-built Dashboards and Reports of Oracle BI- Apps if we dont have any ERP applicaton as a source?
As we dont have any ERP application we have loaded the data from the sample flat files to the Analytics warehouse.
Any help would be highly appreciable.
Regards,
Manmohan SharmaHi Damon,
Thanks a lot.
Now I understand that we have to have ERP data source if want to view the prebuild Dashborads and reports.
Could you please provide the path to get Prebuilt Dashboard & reports ?

Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms?
I have generated a form, which is based on a view. The view uses the mdsys.sdo_relate operator. Somehow I am unable to get the form to perform (to get one record it takes over 20 minutes). While useing sql-navigator to process the same statement it seems no problem. The query that also uses the view, is then processed in 10 seconds.
I also noticed that when text-functions like ' lower' of ' upper' are used to query the view, the query is processed within 15 seconds. If I don't use ' lower' or ' upper' it takes a long time (> 20 minutes) to process the query. Is it possible that this causes the bad performance of the form?
On metalink I have found that forms and spatial do not cooperate because of the pl/sql version that
forms6 uses. There is no solution presented, does anyone know of a work around?
My configuration is:
Oracle 8.1.7 on WIN2K @ PIII-800Mhz 256 Mb memory.
Formsbuilder 6
If requested I can post the queries that I have made.
With regards,
Gerjan Walrecht

nullHello Priya,
Look into the following.
1. Book - Pro Oracle Spatial for Oracle Database 11g by r. Kothuri, A. Godfrind, E. Beinat. This book provides a nice introduction on Oracle Spatial concepts and have examples.
2. Look at the Oracle Spatial & Graph User Guide
2. Book - Applying and Extending Oracle Spatial by S. Greener and S. Ravada. This book provides hands on information for advanced oracle spatial application developers. Practical guide on hands-on examples, Data models and develop cross-vendor database solutions.
3. This oracle spatial forum, once you understand these concepts.
In the future consider Certification on Oracle Spatial 11g Certified Implementation Specialist.

Differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI and Question BAM Data Objects
Hi,
I have two questions.
1. Can someone tell me differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI?
My understanding about Oracle BAM is, we use BAM to build Dashboards or Reports.
We can also build DashBoards or reports using Oracle BI.
I am not able to understand why Oracle has two tools for same purpose?
Which tool is more powerful and user friendly(Oracle BI or Oracle BAM)?
2. Every time we plan to develop Dashboard or report in BAM, we need to create BAM ADC Data Object to store Data (i.e first step is to get data from external database or application and second step is to store data in BAM ADC data object).
My understanding is we have an extra step(i.e creating Data Object) in Oracle BAM to develop a report or DashBoard
I am wrong pl correct me?

Performance Problem between Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g using Crystal XI
We have a Crystal XI Report using ODBC Drivers, 14 tables, and one sub report. If we execute the report on an Oracle 9i database the report will complete in about 12 seconds. If we execute the report on an Oracle 10g database the report will complete in about 35 seconds.
Our technical Setup:
Application server: Windows Server 2003, Running Crystal XI SP2 Runtime dlls with Oracle Client 10.01.00.02, .Net Framework 1.1, C# for Crystal Integration, Unmanaged C++ for app server environment calling into C# through a dynamically loaded mixed-mode C++ DLL.
Database server is Oracle 10g
What we have concluded:
Reducing the number of tables to 1 will reduce the execution time of the report from 180s to 13s. With 1 table and the sub report we would get 30 seconds
We have done some database tracing and see that Crystal Reports Issues the following query when verifying the database and it takes longer in 10g vs 9i.
We have done some profiling in the application code. When we retarget the first table to the target database, it takes 20-30 times longer in 10g than in 9i. Retargeting the other tables takes about twice as long. The export to a PDF file takes about 4-5 times as long in 10g as in 9i.
Oracle 10g no longer supports the /*+ RULE */ hint.
Verify DB Query:

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can improve the report performance with 10g?Hi Eric,
Thanks for your response. The optimizer mode in our 9i database is CHOOSE. We changed the optimizer mode from ALL_ROWS to CHOOSE in 10g but it didn't make a difference.
While researching Metalink I came across a couple of documents that indicated performance problems and issues with using certain data-dictionary views in 10g. Apparently, the definition of ALL_OBJECTS, ALL_ARGUMENTS and ALL_SYNONYMS have changed in 10g, resulting in degradation in performance, if quieried against these views. These are the same queries that crystal reports is queriying. We'll try the workaround suggested in these documents and see if it resolves the issue.
Here are the Doc Ids, if you are interested:

Note:364822.1
Thanks again for your response.

Link/checklist for migrating applications from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g?Help
Hi all,
We need to perform an impact analysis on migratiing an application from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g. Does any of you have a detailed checklist to follow, in terms of queries, PL/SQL statements, optimizer etc. etc., when attempting this migration. We require something more specific from the application point of view rather than a DBA point of view.
Additionally, we have queries written extensively with rule hints. Should there be a special consideration for the same since now we are moving to CBO in 11g
Even if any one has a link, that would help. Thank you so much!Hi Nikhil,
Thanks Xaheer,You're welcome :)
I'm going through the link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/toc.htm
But it still mentions stuff from a DBA angle. I need from an application angle.
Do I need to change my queries taht are current written with RBO? Do I need to change Pl/SQL blocks ?Please refer tech below notes:
*1)TROUBLESHOOTING: Server Upgrade Results in Slow Query Performance -- 160089.1*
*2)TESTING SQL PERFORMANCE IMPACT OF AN ORACLE 9i TO ORACLE DATABASE 10g RELEASE 2 UPGRADE WITH SQL PERFORMANCE ANALYZER -- 562899.1*
Before upgrading your production database, please perform upgrade of test database and do complete testing.
Hope helps

Oracle migration means most likely from non-oracle database to migrate to oracle DB or lower hardware platform to higher/advance hardware platformI would say so. Note Oracle was also confused about word "+migrate+" since it was used till 9i to open the database in a special mode to upgrade the database itself. Nowadays, on 10g+, the command became "+upgrade+".
In oracle upgrade we are updating oracle's new software version (9i to 10g) or patchset (102.0.2 to 102.0.4), once software is updated we giving command statup upgrade , during this phase some scripts are updating data so i belive it is updating oracle realted views, data dictionary, functions, triggers etc etc , instead of touching oracle data.Yes, upgrade script modify Oracle data and objects dictionary, but do not modify user's data and objects (if we expect a recompile of invalide objects as recommanded by the latest step of an upgrade).

Large Oracle database breaks Oracle Connector?
Our Problem: Oracle connector is unable to retrieve the schema for column selection (uninstrumented/instrumented columns) in the connector setup due to timeout on a database with a large amount of schema.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? We tested using a smaller database and the connector was able to pull back the schema just fine.. but with a large database, even after telling Metadirectory to wait for the schema retrieval, it eventually returns with a message saying no schema could be retrieved. Tried changing the timeout settings in the connector, but this did not help. Is there another possible solution?
Any feedback is appreciated on this!
-WayneI had this problem as well, the problem is this, if you trace the query in the database that the connector is issuing you will see it is trying to bring back the entire information about objects for the entire database not just for objects your connector user has rights to. So on databases with thousands and thousands of objects like an oracle database running oracle finanacials or manufacturing their query will run for forever and a day. To get around this I spoofed the connector view creation process by creating the following tables in the schema of the user for the connector: ALL_CONS_COLUMNS, ALL_TABLES, ALL_TAB_COLUMNS and ALL_TAB_PRIVS into these I put only the info I needed to get the connector to create, however, I found that I need to keep them there even after the creation. If you have a dba handy he can help get this done.
PS: the query that the connector view runs actually uses more than these 4 system views, but by creating these 4 in the schema of the connector user the query finishes in a reasonable time so I didn't bother to include any others. Hopefuly I've been clear enough..... -
Select query differences between oracle 9 and oracle 8.
Hi,
I have a problem using the select query between oracle 7 and oracle 9i I don't have the same result :
ex:
With oracle7
SQL> select 'champ1','champ2' from DUAL;
'CHAMP 'CHAMP
champ1 champ2
With Oracle 9
SQL> select 'champ1','champ2' from DUAL;
'CHAMP1' 'CHAMP2'
champ1 champ2
So Can someone tell me how to solve this problem ? Is there a parameter in oracle 9 to set?
Thanx.Whenever you are posting anything over internet forums like this - you should be very careful about not just posting the details which requires to solve the problem - also should be sensible about your question.
This is not at all desired when you are posting such question. It may be because - you may not well aware of the fact.
My suggestion is -> First Go through the basics Of SQL in general.
Then go for any specific product like Oracle/ SQL Server/ Sybase etc.
And, finally learn the advanced commands of that DB.
You asked it - may be you thought the difference in output in terms of lines. But, that is not your actual output. That is the graphical display part only.
Anyway,
You can get the quite familier output by first type the following command ->
set lin 310Regards.

Oracle Upgrade from Oracle RAC 9.2.0.6 to Oracle 10.2.0.4
Hi All,
Currently, we are running 4 node Oracle RAC environment with below mentioned configuration.
OS: Sun Solaris 5.9
Hardware: Sun E2900
Oracle Version: 9.2.0.6
Veritas Cluster Server: 4.1
We want to upgrade Oracle version to 10g, and currently analyzing the options to perform this. The current database size is 1TB appx and we want to spend minimum application shutdown time running on this database.
As part of upgrade, we also need to upgrade Veritas Cluster Server from 4.1 to 5.1 to support Oracle 10g. It would be great help,, if someone can pass some guideline to perform this task.
We are currently thinking about piecemeal approach, where we can upgrade each node individually and then put them back to cluster. There are some complexities involved, and its really high risk approach.
Thanks a lot in advance for help
Regards,
ManojOrcale 10g RAC requires you to install Oracle Clusterware. Oracle Supports running it along side a 3rd party clustering software. Not sure why you're so anxious to upgrade Veritas Clusterware when it will be trivial on the 10g db hosts.
