Viewing streaming video

I recently had help using this forum so i'm going to try it again. I downloaded windows media player to view my saved media player clips. i use mozilla firefox, now when i go to a website to view streaming video, it tells me i need a plug-in. when i go click on the link i'm given, it tells me to download windows media player. My question is, if i have already downloaded windows media player, why won't it work viewing streaming video and how do i get it to work?

It's always been available - back from the initial beta distribution several months ago. Just check out the forums by using that handy-dandy search function....there are 10 threads on this (the latest UB F4M beta) - here is the last one..

  • Problem viewing streaming video in some wifi networks, but not others

When I am at work (university), I can not view YouTube videos or video streaming from news sites such as cnn mobile on my ipod touch 2g.
    <m.cnn.com/videos.jsp?ckey-cnn)06#__1_>
When I called Apple support, they had me reset-restore. I still had the problem. I went to the Apple store Genius bar and the problem no longer existed, the videaos downloaded and played from both sites!
But at my diner and at work, I get the message, "This movie could not be played" in a popup box with an OK button. The same message appears if I use the YouTube application. I click on any video, and the same popup appears. In Cnn the popup is preceded by a shaded capital Q that looks like the blue Quicktime Q; in Youtube the pupup is preceded by a YouTube icon in gray with the "Tube" surrounded by the rounded rectangle, their icoon...
At the Apple store the popup never appeared, and the videos downloaded and played.
I have no trouble playing movies I have downloaded from iTunes.
I did not have this problem when I initially got my iPod Touch, and I think it appeared after one of the last two system upgrades, but I am not sure.
I am curious that it the problem happens at two places, my diner and at work.
The speed of my wireless work network, as judged by the ipod app speed test is 9915 kbps download and 6971 kbps upload, so plenty fast.
The first time I noticed this issue was with the application "At Bat Lite" which also won't play video highlights at work.
I do not have WiFi at home
Any thoughts about what would cause this lack of functionality apparantly only at some networks but not others?
Oh, one more piece of data: at work a Macbook will play YouTube both on ethernet and using wifi...
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions,
    Paul

It seems I have two networks available at work, one is behind our firewall, and I login to it. This is the network that I can't view streaming video. There is also a "Guest" network that I don't need to login to. This one works with the YouTube and the news site videos.
Thus, I conclude there is a setting that WiFi network administrators can invoke that specifically can block streaming video on some protocols (whatever the ipod touch uses) and not others (whatever the Macbook uses). But the same router hardware supplying the Guest network does not block these protocols. Presumably this has to do with security on one side of the firewall(?)
Anyway, apparently outside of the WiFi controls available in the ipod touch settings.
    Weird...

  • IPhone viewing Streaming Video in other formats

I am considering an iPhone, however, I am curious if the iPhone can view streaming video in other formats such as wmv. I have tried on a friends phone and it didn't work. Is there a plug-in for the iPhone that can be installed to do this?

My suggestion is to go to the feedback site (which I will list below) and tell Apple your suggestions directly. Not a promise that they will be included but at least you are getting to the right set of ears.

  • Unable to view streaming video

I could view a streaming video using following address rtsp://138.133.71.2:554/file/ when using Quicktime 6. However, I have upgraded to Quicktime 7 Pro and I am now unable to view the streamed video. I am using Windows 2000 on a PC and streaming the video from a camera through a DSP Board to the PC. (The PC is not connect to the Internet)

Download the Flash Player Uninstaller and Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers) by right clicking and selecting "Save Link as".
    Close Firefox.
    Run the uninstaller.
Run the installer to replace the plugin.
    Open Firefox and click Tools>Add-ons.
Check under Plugins that Flash Player is "always activated".
If it still won't load, check your other plugins. There may be an ad blocker that's preventing it.

  • Viewing Streaming video on E61I

    Hi,
Recently got the E61i device, and have an unlimited data plan, but I am unable to connect to any streaming videos on youtube or any other site. It says cannot connect to server, I checked with the CARRIER and there is no restriction from their end, so do I need to turn some settings on or something from my end to watch and stream videos ? Thanks for the help,

Which web sites with video streams are you trying to connect to (besides YouTube), and what video file and streaming formats do they use?
YouTube uses Flash Video, which the Flash Lite player and browser in the E61i does not support. Mobitubia or emTube are applications that might help in that respect.
See this table for the audio and video formats supported by the E61i:

  • Problem viewing video, something about an ad blocker. I had no trouble viewing streaming video until I downloaded firefox 4

I do not have any trouble watching streaming video on the Netflix website, but all other streaming video such as on a tv network or on IMDB.com comes back unavailable or blocked by an ad blocker. The only change to my computer I have done is upgrade my Mazilla Firefox browser. Something downloaded with it maybe that is blocking streaming transmissions. I need to know how to disable or bypass the problem.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
Thus, if you get it to work restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

  • I can't view streaming video or get streaming audio

Youtube and other progressive video works fine. Even video on Fox News' website. I can't stream video from their website from any of the three streams (FNC, FBN, FoxLive). I also can't use many radio stations that use flash player, such as Mark Levin and KFMB San Diego. Flash tries to connect to the servers and just never does. Problem occurs in IE and Firefox.
I had a permissions fight with a video driver prior to this. I was out of disk space and removed som things. I ran CCleaner and deleted some things.
Troubleshooting: Used uninstaller to remove flash. Re-installed. Disabled firewall and tested (no fix). I cleared browser caches (no fix). Reset browser settings to default (OMG, that screwed up my address bar system whereby I type gg search and get google feeling lucky and other shortcuts and it removed all my search engines)
After many hours of trying everything I could think of, IE showed the video . I shut it down and tried Firefox.... no go. Tried IE again.... no go.
    It's a left-wing conspiracy!

Yup. I feel like a boob. I've been an MCSE since the 90's. Cut my teeth on Netware and Banyan Vines. I failed to check the obvious. I restarted in safe mode as suggested and the player worked. I guessed it was a service that was stopping me. Wrong... even simpler. There was a new 'friend' in my task list. I think I updated Ccleaner off the download.com web site. What BS. Sendori was installed. It wasn't picked up as malicious by Security Essentials but it screwed me up and I don't remember installing it. I'm very good about unchecking boxes when installing software I want (ccleaner). I uninstalled using control panel - programs & features. At least it uninstalled nicely and I didn't have to chop it out with malwarebytes or by hand.
    Thanks, Chris.

  • Trouble viewing streaming video with Quicktime

This is a problem I have no encountered before, and I am hoping someone has an idea, because I'm fresh out.
A user has to take a class that involves her logging into a webiste with her own unique ID, and watching a video before it will allow her to take a test. It is a quicktime streaming video. When she attempts to watch the video, all she gets is a large quicktime symbol with a bar going back and forth under it, as though it were loading, but it never loads. Here comes the odd part. We had another user log into the website ont the same computer and she was able to watch the video just fine. We then had the original user try to watch on a different computer, and she was still not able to watch, though another user was able to watch the video with their own login on that computer as well. We believe it is a problem with her account on that website, but I am just curious if quicktime has any quirks that might cause this? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

I cannot imagine that the problem is due to QuickTime or any other fault on the computer. If it were, it's highly likely that all users logging in from that same computer would have the same problem, and the problem would not be moving with that user to other computers.
I think it's almost certainly something amiss with your user's account on your server.
    Regards.

Hi recently purchased a nokia 5530
I am having a problem watching videos online (youtube, megavideo etc). I am using my home wireless (WLAN) and everything else internet related is working fine.
when i go to youtube and click on a video it says "connecting" and after a few minutes it says unable to connect. I tried using the opera app but the same thing happens. It is not youtube specfic, with the same problem occuring on other sites (megavideo, myspace, collegehumor etc)
The phone has the latest firmware and flashlite3.1 upgrade.
    any idea?
I tried setting the real player access point to my home wireless but it made no difference.
    help appreciated
    Thanks

I have a nokia 5530 and i find the streaming is excellent
There is a specific way to watch megavideo

  • When ever i try to view a streaming video from a website I now get two of the same stacked on each other in same panel where one video should be view, what is wrong?

When ever I am trying to view streaming video from websites, such as CNN or ESPN or You Tube, I now see the same video stacked twice in the panel where it used to only show by itself. I think it happened after the last updates to Firefox and Flash Player, but not sure what was changed to create that effect?

First of all, Firefox support SUCKS! I am looking onto Opera or Chrome.
Here is my solution. I have WinXP 64 bit with a Nvidia card. I had the same issue and all I had to do is update the video drivers and it fixed the problem. Try this out.

  • No full screen option for streaming video podcasts??

Why does Apple have to make things so difficult at times for something that should be so obvious and straightforward? Anyone know how to view streaming video podcasts in full screen?

Turning off the TV safe area is to prevent parts of the images from being lost, which is not the issue here. The problem I'm having is that there there are black bars around the entire displayed image. I believe this is called windowboxing. Letterboxing has black bars at top and bottom of screen, pillarboxing has the black bars at the left and right of screen. It's all to do with the ratio of the photographs.
My photos were all taken with a digital camera and are 4:3 ratio. I want the images to display FULL SCREEN. They are not doing this - not on a TV monitor - and not on a computer monitor!!! Is windowboxing hard-wired into the iDVD themes? This can't be right. PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Streaming video and radio

Do you think it will ever be possible to view streaming video? Such as, on ABC.com and so forth. Yes,I know you can buy episodes of favorite shows from iTunes, but that is usually last season and current stuff is available on the web. It seems that some of the things I want to do as mobile, such as NASCAR Raceview, etc are available on other types of ATT phones but not the iPhone and it is supposed to be so cool.
I do love my iPhone, I would just like to be able to do more with it.

    gsc,
Separating categories is not going to be possible for the current version of the IronPort URL filter. In 6.3, we are releasing a new category engine that may have some more flexibility in this area.
Let's revisit this inquiry when 6.3 is available. It is currently in early beta.

  • Downloading streaming video...

I have a questions for all of you quicktime and vid experts.
I am familiar with viewing streaming video through my web browser and for the most part, it is easy to download it by either pressing and holding down your mouse button or option clicking and then saving. But once in a while I get streaming video that wont let me do anything. I have heard of stand alone applications or perhaps a plugin for quicktime that would let you do this. I have quicktime pro but don't use it for anything technical short of just viewing movies, so if it has the ability to do this...then Im not sure how to do it.
Sorry for the lengthy question and thanks in advance.
    Eddy

Streaming files can't be saved using QuickTime Pro. You'll need a screen capture utility (Snapz Pro) to record them as they play.
Some downloaded files are "protected" as save disabled by the authors or the html code of the page.
You should be able to tell which you can save by Control-clicking on the file in the browser window. A dialog will open (after the file has completely downloaded) giving you some options for saving the file.

  • Problem viewing some video files

I get this problem only with some video files, not all. They are all .mov files so it's hard to tell what is causing it. What it looks like is that the video and sound plays but the video is "barred out" with thick white stripes so it looks like three is only 1 pixel size width of video showing through. almost like this:
    "menu bar here"
Just pretend with the dotted lines, you can see the video in it's place. I tried reinstalling quicktime but it does not work. Any ideas

    Weird...
