Viewing the "Now Playing" or "Currently Playing" playlist?

I'm moving over to iTunes at the moment from an older MP3 player and I can't seem to find a playlist that shows the songs that iTunes will corrently work its way through - i.e. a "Now Playing" playlist or group of songs that are ticked in tbe music library. Is there a way of viewing this?
I've worked out a way to make this happen (create a playlist, add songs to it, clear the playlist every time you want to change what you're listening to) but i'm surprised that iTunes doesnt seem have this feature as standard - unless I don't know how to view it! I've seen at least 5 other media players (Windows Media Player, Realplayer, VLC, and the older Musicmatch Jukebox and Winamp) that all have this "Now Playing" feature, and it's really useful. Quicktime probably does too but I rarely use that!
Any thoughts? Is it possible for this to be submitted to iTunes as a feature request??

I've been given a solution to this, here:

  • Scrolling of Track Info in the "Now Playing" View

In the Now Playing view, song title scrolls by when longer than the screen width. However, artist doesn't. Is there a way (setting) to make it scroll? Many of my tracks have multiple artists and therefore longer than the screen width.

  • Missing: Adding the "Now Playing" song to a Playlist

I have a lot of songs but I want to manage my music by creating playlists on the go, so I purchased an iPod Touch and Stuffed in all my music to iTunes to sync to my iPod Touch. Done.
Just found out that you can NOT add the currently playing song to a playlist, new or existing. The easiest way to add the currently playing song, to a new or old playlist is to (This will be long), first, memories at least a few keywords of that currently playing song e.g. title, artist, or album, and then go to Playlist tab, select the playlist or add a playlist..., click on Edit, click on add song, search the song and add to Playlist, Click Done. Not easy.
I find this very time consuming. I expected to see iPod Touch have this as a very very basic feature.
My question: Is there a Product Enhancement Request already submitted about this? I had my iPod Touch with iOS 4 when I purchased it. Now I have iOS 5, no fix to this issue still.
It would be really really appeciated if Apple's Product Management Team could give us a heads up if this feature will ever be available.
    Kindest Regards

I second that.  I just use the "recently played" playlist as kind of a makeshift on-the-go playlist.  But to create a playlist from scratch, they've GOT to make it easier than scrolling through thousands of songs. I just don't create playlists on the ipod touch/iphone anymore.  I do it on iTunes and sync it to the device.
Maybe they think playlists are just too "old-school".  They have "cutting-edge" features (no doubt to appeal the younger folks) like play a song by saying the song name, yet they don't give you a basic feature like on-the-go playlisting.

  • Is there a way to create a playlist from the now playing screen on ios7?

Is there a way to create a playlist from the now playing screen on ios7? I want to be able to hear a song in my collection and immediately add it to an existing playlist or create a new playlist.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Cornellius,
From the now playing screen there's a Create button at the bottom that allows you to create a
    Genius Playlist
    New Station form Artist
    New Station from Song
    IPhone Help, Browse and play
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph3cf21a82
The Now Playing screen provides playback controls and shows you what’s playing.
For information on Genius Playlists, see

I don't see an option to add it to an existing playlist.

  • How do you customizing the "Now Playing" view screen?

I am an educated classical musician, so many of the tags people write on their music files seem stupid to me. For example, the term "artist" has many connotations, most of which people use incorrectly. Furthermore, "song" indicates music with lyrics and very few tracks on my iPod have lyrics. With this in mind, the "composer" tag has the most important information for me when I listen to music.
Is there any way to replace the "artist" with "composer" on the Now Playing menu on my iPod?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well, you need to remember a couple of things. One, these tags aren't an Apple or iTunes thing; they're a standard. Two, the tagging scheme you're proposing would be as useless to most of the people who use iTunes as the current one is to you.
I'm going to make another work around suggestion that you can ingore. Have you considered putting the information you require in the lyrics tag? It won't help with sorting but you'd still have the info accessible on your iPod. After all, if the music you're listening to isn't "songs" (though you never did answer my question about Mendelssohn), then the lyrics tag is just going to waste. It's just a text field and you can put anything you want in it.
And, if you want to give Apple your thoughts:

  • Hover curser over song and there's no arrow for options to add the song to a playlist, the song has to be played for the arrow to appear, which is then at the now playing part in the middle at the top of the screen

The little arrow which says "Play Next, Add to Up Next, Go to artist" etc. only appears at the top of the screen on the now playing part. On 11.2 on my laptop before it got refurbished, this arrow appeared when you hover the curser over the name of a song.
Bit annoying having to change the song everytime I want to add it to a playist etc. Is there any way I can make this arrow appear again by just hovering over the song name?
    Thanks.

  • [Mobile] Put back the Volume Control in the Now Playing View

I have just updated to the newest mobile app (3.3.0) on my iPhone and now there is no volume control on the 'Now Playing' screen (same for Android).
I used to use this because when I go from my car to my head phones I need to turn down the volume a lot! And if I use the iPhones volume buttons, it says its changing my headphones volume but its just turning down my ringer volume (very annoying). Please put the volume control back.

Updated: 2015-06-19Marked as new idea and edited the title slightly to make it easier to find via search. ;)

  • How do I select which bluetooth speakers to play out of? My iPod connects to both kitchen and living room speakers. My old iPod had a selection icon on the now playing screen, but my new one doesn't.

    Hi,
    Our setup
A new iPod Touch 5 with iOS 8.3.
Living room speakers that use a Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter.
Kitchen speakers that use an AmazonBasics Bluetooth 4.0 Audio Receiver.
The iPod connects to both but always wants to play to the kitchen. To play in the living room, we have to unplug the power to the kitchen speakers. Bluetooth settings screen doesn't let you select between Bluetooth connections. All I seem to be able to do is forget the connection.
We also have an old iPod Touch (not sure of the generation, but it has iOS 6.1.6). On that one, there is a little icon on the now playing screen that would open a little pull-down menu to let you select which Bluetooth connection to use for playing audio.
I don't see the "select output" icon on the new now playing screen
    Jimmy
PS the iPod seems very aggressive in connecting. I hear the living room speakers activate when my wife gets out of the car in the driveway. Then as she comes into the living room, the sound switches to the kitchen.

Thanks, this was the clue I needed to figure it out.
From Settings you can pull up Control Center.
In Control Center you can enable "Access from within Apps" (also "Access from Lockscreen")
Now when I'm playing music, I can swipe up from the bottom and a little control center window slides up. Neat - this is new since my old iPod. On this window, the name of the current Bluetooth connection appears. Tap on that, and a list of connected Bluetooth items appears. I just tap on the one I want to connect to and I am now playing through the speakers I want.

  • Problem with the "now playing"-function after timer sleep-mode

At first: sorry for my english.
I have the following problem with the Nano 6G: I set the timer of my iPod Nano to shut it down after a while of playing. When I turn it back on afterwards, the now-playing-button does not show the song that it played at last. Instead of that the nano is automatically set to shuffle mode which was not activated before and the now-playing-button will show any other song randomly.
This does not happen when I switch it to sleep-mode with the button on the top, only when the sleepmode ist activated by the timer.
Does anyone notice the same issue with his nano? How can I bring my nano to play the same song after the sleepmode, that it played before?

Hey Ipaqman, that strange behavior of the Nano 6G annoys me for exactly the same reason: audiobook in bed + sleeptimer = losing the place. As You say, the 5G works better with that and I also hope that Apple takes notice of that issue and will solve it.
Until that I got myself a "workaround". I create a new playlist on the device, with just the single audiobook in it, that is actually in use. This helps me finding back into it, as long as "now playing" will not work correctly with the sleeptimer.

  • How Do I Get Siri To Show Me The "Now Playing" Screen?

When I'm driving, it's great to be able to push the home button and get Siri to play a playlist or all songs from an artist.
But how do I get her to show me the Now Playing screen? When you say "show me the 'now playing' screen," (or just about anything similar), she searches the Web. That's not what I want. What is the command to get Siri to switch to the iPod "Now Playing" so I don't have to manually tap through to that screen (and take eyes off the road)?  This should be simple, but I can't seem to figure it out.
    Thanks!

You can let Apple know you want this feature.

  • In the recently played playlist how do i switch the order the songs go to in after i listen to them?

I just switched to an iphone 4s and while switching the order of my playlist switched too. when I was using just an ipod touch after i listened to a song it would become #1 in the recently played playlist (which is what I want) and the songs that i havent listened to in a while are towards the bottom on the playlist. BUT NOW the song that i just listen to becomes the last song in the playlist and the songs that I hardly listen to are on the top (which is what I dont want).
I did not switch anything in my itunes settings.
I tried making a new smart playlist but the same thing happened
It is listed how I want it in my itunes on my computer but it shows up the opposite on my iphone.

    Exact same issue here!!

  • Now Playing Playlist

    Hi,
maybe this has been asked many times before,  but is there an "Now Playing Playlist" possibility in iTunes ?
I know you can add song to a playlist and this plays from song 1 until song x, but id rather would have a possibilty to personally (and not automatically) add songs "as I go along" (Something like being your own DJ)
After playing a song, that song should be deleted from the playlist so that (when there is no song left in that playlist) it should automatically stop (because the playlist is empty ).
Hopefully this makes some sense to someone.
    Thanks in advance
    M

Itunes DJ comes close, but it's not really what I am after. But maybe Apple could see this as a Feature Request (but I doubt it)

  • Clicking on the Now Playing does not open in a new window

When you click on the artwork in the Now Playing fieild in the lower left corner, a window should pop up that displays the artwork.  Mousing over it shows the controls.  When I click on it, it shows a new window is open on my taskbar, but it doesn't display on my desktop.  Does anyone have a solution to my problem.  I have iTunes 10.6.1.7

The Template .dwt file is only used locally by DW itself, there's no reason to upload it to the server unless you intend to share it with someone. You have to upload each individual page that the Template updates, every time you update the template and propagate that change across the child pages.
It would probably be better to use a server side include. That way, you could update one file then upload it and all of your pages would automatically carry that update...

    PHP's version: http://www.tizag.com/phpT/include.php
It's especially handy if your site gets to the point where you have more than about 20 pages.

  • How can I see the "Now Playing" music screen in horizontal mode on my iPhone 6 plus?

The iPhone 6 plus is too tall to stand up on my elliptical trainer but when I rotate it to horizontal mode, the music app's "Now Playing" screen turns into that song icon screen. Is there some way to make it show a horizontal version of the "Now Playing" screen?

Go to the app store and search using the term YouTube. You should see a number of apps that will give you access to it.

  • Creative Zen Sleek and the Now Playing-part of the firmw

    Hi,
this week I got my Creative Zen Sleek. I'm very satisfied, except for one thing - the Now Playing-part of the firmware (the list with all the songs queued up). In the old Nomad Jukebox Zen firmware, the list was divided by artist or album name. On the Zen Sleek, however, the list is just going on without even showing which songs belonging to which album etc.
This is really annoying me - would it be possible to fix this, or at least consider the possibility for this to be integrated in the next firmware upgrade?
    Sincerely
    Hein Haraldson Berg

& Putting the X-Fi into Recovery Mode and selecting clean up seemed to fix the problem, but it does still come up randomly.
The clean up puts the player menus back to their defaults though... any chance that in a future fix for the player, this wouldn't occur?
