Viewing TIF files in Mac OS X v4

Hello:
I have been sent some files in TIF format but I cannot find a way to view these files in Mac OS X (10.4). I have confirmed that the files are not corrupted, since I can transfer them to a Windows PC and view them there, but OS X does not appear to have a file viewer that can read them.
Can anyone advise what program can be used for this purpose?
Thanks.
Michael Trotz

Since you can open the TIFFs on a PC, then there must be something wrong with Preview on your Mac. You can use Pacifist to extract the Preview application from your original OS X installation CD/DVD. Replace the one currently on the hard drive.
But there's quite a few other apps that will open a TIFF. Photoshop, Graphic Converter, InDesign, Quark and Illustrator to name a few. There's a bunch of free and shareware viewers you could download here.

Not sure but maybe some exotic compression? Where did you get
    that TIFFs
    and how they were prepared?

  • Unable to view TIF files saved in pse7 on a Mac

Hello! I burnt a few TIF files (downloaded as RAW files from camera via Lightroom 2.5, then converted to 8 bit TIF via pse7) onto CD. I was able to view the images on another pc but not on a Mac. Is there anything I can do? Maybe change settings on the Mac? Many thanks!

It's most likely the settings you used for burning. Try burning a disc using Joliet, or just using the built-in burning capability in Explorer and see if you still have the same problem.

  • Viewing tif files in Preview, Dropbox

I've created two image files in Photoshop, removing hidden layers, merging layers, and then flattening the layers, saving them as tif files. One is about 4 MB; the other is about 24 MB.
The 4 MB files shows up fine in QuickView and in Preview; the 24 MB file shows up with a white background and one element from one of the layers.
I've also tried this saving the 24 MB tif file in layers, preserving the alpha; same result.
Uploaded to Dropbox, both tif files show up with only one layer visible, even though the file has flattened all the layers!
Thanks for any help you can offer sorting this out. I'd like to be able to view the 24 MB tif file in Preview.

  • Trouble viewing .tif files in bridge?

When I open a folder of images in Bridge I can see the CR2 files but the edited .tif files only appear as a generic .tif icon, and when I press the space bar to try to preview them larger I get that same icon. I can see some of the .tifs as the icons but when I try to view those larger it's only a tiny preview image, like a 1"x1" icon. The only way I can view the images is to physically open each one in photoshop

CR2 files are raw Canon files. If you can open them, it means your OK as far as the installation of the proper version of the ACR Plugin.
If you can't see the thumbnails of the TIFFs but you can open the files themselves in Photoshop by double-clicking on them, then all you may have to do is Purge the Cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu of Bridge Tools > Cache > Purge cache for folder "name_of_folder".
Note that I am flying blind here as you haven't provided any sensible, meaningful and detailed information about your setup.
If you gave some sensible, complete and detailed information, someone may be able to help you, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, etc.

  • Viewing tif files - not tiff

I am using iWS 4.1 to serve my tif files viewed by IE5.x
The problem is that on some platforms, the request comes for a tiff file rather than tif and of course the file does not exists and user gets an error.
Can we setup iWS to return tif file when a request comes for a tiff file? I hear IIS has such a feature.
    Thanks,

You guys are not getting my point.
I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8/9 for creating a PDF that picks up text files and image (Jpg, bmp, tif) files from a network shared folder and inserts them into an empty Template PDF file by making use of Acrobat events through Javascript.
This all works fine as long I dont include any Tif file and PDF is created successfully.
Now all other file types including text files, jpgs, gif are opening up but problem is with .tif files.
You can check this by directly opening image files in Adobe Acrobat Profesional 8/9 from File --> Open menu option.
Other images will open up but most Tif files won't open in it. Such tif files also not open in "Winodws Picture and Fax Viewer" software but will open in softwares like "Imaging Professional" , "IrfanView" etc, which I think use some special codec for it.
If you know of any Acrobat plugin that can be incorporated in Acrobat professional and convert these tif files to PDF on the fly, would be of great help or have some any other suggestion you feel is right.
    Thanks

  • Best way to view Text files from Mac on iPhone 4?

What is the Best way to view Text files (loaded) from my Mac onto my iPhone 4?
Will any of the "readers" (e.g. Kindle, Kobo) allow me to put my own text files onto my iPhone and read them easily?
    Thanks

I actually purchased GoodReader because it is easy to transfer files without iTunes.  I dislike the file sharing through iTunes.   You can use a Mac or PC.  Once I was in the app I clicked the "Wi-Fi" symbol which brings me to "WiFi-transfer."  It will show this --
    "WiFi status: ON
Use one of the following addresses exactly as you see them
    1. IP-address: http://192.168.0.98:8080 <-- Local LAN address the iPhone is broadcasting on.
    2. Bonjour-address http://Myname-iPhone.local:8080"
All you have to do is type one of those addresses into your browser. (Safari, etc.)
It will take you to a page that has iPhone Connection and a list of options.  You can either create a new directory within the application or use an existing one to upload a text file.  It's rather simple, you just select "Choose a file to upload" > Select your file > Press upload > Start the app and see your text/pdf/whatever file.
You can also connect to a server to download a text file, browse the web, or enter a url.  I see it also has an ICloud folder which I'm not sure if it integrates with Apple's iCloud or not, I think it does.  I'm not affliated with the app and I'm not saying you have to buy it, I'm just a happy user.
If you don't want to buy this app let me know I'll keep looking for a free or cheaper one for you if you want.

  • Bridge: Using Thumbnail Viewing TIF Files

Using the Bridge and thumbnail viewing, our TIF files do not provide a preview. What am I doing wrong?

I think I have things configured correctly in dc20 and dc30. I can view tiffs thru the gui (cv03n) and if I select a tiff from EasyDMS , right click , view thru gui and edit thru gui all work.
If I select a tiff and right click then click on "edit file", the file opens in the picture viewer and the little lock icon appears. I can also then check in the file.
The only item that does not work is the "view file" (without using the gui). I see the "Downloading File" box come up and I can see where the file goes into the temp directory, but the application never starts up.

  • Viewing MHT files with Mac OS X

New to the Mac from PC and not very technical to boot.
I am a student and need to view MHT files on my school's website. I can view them on my PC but not on my Mac which I would like to be using. Can anyone help? Thank you.

I wrote a shareware program years ago that can decode a number of different formats, including MHT. Download it and try it out. It is shareware, but it will work fine, even if not registered. Just wait 8 seconds.
Note: As this is my own program and it is shareware - "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."

  • How to view .wmv files on Mac?

Does anybody know what I need to do to be able to view MIME type files such as .wmv on mac?
    Thanks!

    Hi Xiaowei Cheng
There are quite a few other applications that're also useful for viewing various media types on Mac OS X - including some great free tools from the Unix world - two of the best are VLC (VideoLan Client) and Mplayer OS X
I recommend grabbing those in addition to the (quite correct) suggestions above - they can often open and read things that *nothing else will (and have many other very powerful functions).
    Best wishes.

  • Viewing tif files using EasyDMS

I have installed EasyDMS 6.0 SP16 non-unicode. When I double click on a tiff image , the image does not appear. If I "edit" the file the tif image is displayed and the little lock Icon appears in the EasyDMS window. Then if I double click on the image (after trying to edit it) the image will appear.

  • Viewing tif files

Hello my iPhone 5 with iOS "7.1" cannot download a "tif" email attachment, it will however open and view a "tiff" attachment, no problems.  I can not even save the "tif" attachment for viewing elsewhere.  I work for a firm where a fair amount of "plans" have been saved over the years in the "tif" format and it would be nightmarish to open and save thousands of these images in other format.  I also tried to rename the "tif" to "tiff" image with still the same problem.  Any ideas for this issue?
