Viewing Video Podcast/Size of Video Playback

Greetings-
Before updating my version of iTunes, I could select the size of the playback by holding command-2 (for example). Now I automatically get a full screen playback, and whenever I try to make the playback size smaller the whole video stops playing.

  • Video Podcast Size/Length Limit for iPhone?

    Hi;
I have subscribed to the "Programming Paradigms" video podcast from Stanford University available through iTunes freely [1].
The lesson's download to the Mac fine and play on it, but when i sync them to my 1st generation iPhone (v2.1) only the first episode works as expected and other lessons plays without a video (only audio).
I realize first lesson's length is smaller (17 min. versus 40+ min.) than others, is there a video podcast  size or time limit for iPhone exists and if so how can i bypass these limits?
    [1] http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Browse/itunes.stanford.edu.16173481 11.01617348114
    Thanks,

The standard itself doesn't have these limitations, but each "device" may have it's own limitations that you need to be wary of. For example, I can encode an .mp4 video file that will play back fine on a Playstation 3, but, due to it's bitrate, will not play back on an iPod.
However, any app on a computer that is listed as being able to playback MPEG-4 content will recognize it as such and play it back.

  • Video podcasts - no audio only playback

    Hi,
I have the original iPhone and am a very active podcast user. Several of the podcasts I frequent are video format and it appears with the new 2.0 firmware the ability for audio only playback of video podcasts has been lost. It used to be that if you accessed a video podcast in iPod mode from More/Podcasts they would playback audio only. This was tremendously helpful as I often want to check email, surf Safari etc while listening to these podcasts. Now they will only playback in Video mode so if you navigate out of iPod mode to any other apps the podcast turns off. This was also helpful for saving battery life when walking around or unable to view the video.
Is everyone else using 2.0 firmware experiencing this? Does this sound like bug or lost feature?
Apple please fix/re-enable what was a great feature!
    I appreciate hearing from others.
    Thanks,
    Steve

It seems to be doing the same on mine. I also used this feature and loved it. What's worse is that you can't turn off the screen with the sleep button, as that turns off the podcast playback too. So it seems you must be playing the video in order to hear it (wasting battery if your phone is in your pocket).
I can only guess they removed it as people got confused over why their video podcast was playing back in audio only. Make it an option that we can choose at least, rather than reduce the functionality this way.
PS. While I'm complaining, why is there still no "Shuffle by Album" option...

  • HOW TO DISPLAY VIDEO PODCAST ARTWORK NOT VIDEO FIRST FRAME

How do I get the photo for my video podcast to display? Feed: http://drcraigjohnson.net/podcasts/video/podcast.xml I only see the first frame of the video in cover flow. Code validates. The image is 600 x 600 per iTune specs, but testing with 300 x 300 didn't help. Thank you!

The coverflow art equals the album coverart. That art MUST be embedded to show. It doesn't matter if you are actually listed in the iTunes store or not. Now the picture that shows in the store along with website info, customer reviews, etc. is pulled from the iTunes image tags (<itunes:image href="http://yourpictureURL.jpg" /> within your podcast xml file.
I found the following link within the podcast maker forum with more info from a forum moderator: http://homepage.mac.com/rfwilmut/notes/faq.html#coverart
BTW when a picture is embedded (whether using iTunes to embed or something else), the actual image, NOT a link to the image is "built into" the file whether mp3 audio or m4v video. I did extensive tests embedding a 50k picture and saw the file's size increase substantially, though not exactly matching the photo size.
Embedding solved my video coverflow picture issue too. Changing/uploading a new image to your server will NOT change the picture shown in album coverart. Thus your "channel" can have a changeable image (the one in the iTunes tag) but each episode can have its own logo/album art.

  • Help! Ipod 1.3 won't play video podcasts on Ipod Video

Help! I just upgraded to Ipod version 1.3 on my Ipod 5th generation video Ipod. The upgrade downloaded and loaded fine and the Ipod rebooted and connected to Itunes. Itunes updated some new video podcasts and I got an error message the the videos from "The New Yorker Animated Cartoons." Neither the 3/13/08 or 3/14/08 podcasts would work and gave ther error that the video would not play on my Ipod. I next tried reloading the 3/7/08 video which used to work on my Ipod and it failed as well. I'm afraid that many other podcasts may fail as they get downloaded.
It seems likely that this is a problem with the 1.3 firmware. Can I get some help to get things working?
    Thanks
    Ken West

I don't know if this link, from Apple, will solve your problems but at least for now, I am able to see the video in podcasts. The second to the last sentence was what helped me. Good luck. Fujishu
FROM THE APPLE LINK: problem--iPod plays audio but not videos, movies, or TV shows

If the audio for movies plays through the headphones and you see "Now Playing" on the iPod screen with a progress bar, but the video does not appear on the iPod screen, then you may have the TV Out video setting turned on.
To change your TV Out setting so you can view video with your sound:
Navigate on your iPod to Videos > Video Settings
Select TV Out to set it to Off or Ask.
If the issue continues, make sure you are accessing the video through the Videos menu. If you have a video mixed in an audio playlist, you also won't be able to see the video.

  • Video podcast on non-video ipod

I wanna download ask a ninja podcast so I can listen to it on my 20 gig iPod, but its a video podcast. Will I be able to listen to it on my iPod without the video? Or will it just not work?

It doesn't work on mine, as is.
Many TV Shows, etc. purchased from the Music Store can be converted to sound only. Right Click>Convert Selection to [Audio Format]. This slightly defeats the purpose of spending an extra $1 for the video, though.
I don't think that trick works with Podcasts.

  • Video podcasts not showing video?

Okay, I'm a little confused here.
I downloaded some podcasts (okay I downloaded hundreds), including some video ones.
Now when I go under iTunes there's the little tv logo by them, and when I click the video does play just like any other video.
But when I go to watch the podcast on my iPod (brand new 30 GB with video), it plays just the audio. It looks like watching a normal audio pocast, with a little still image where album artwork normally shows up.
It's not like my iPod has trouble with videos -- the television shows and music videos I downloaded from iTunes store all work perfectly fine. It's just my podcasts.
The particular video podcasts I downloaded are the Disney Channel DCOM extras, Star Wars on Cinemax, and Formula D.
Please help, I really want to watch these videos but my computer is too sluggish with iTunes to watch them on there!
    Thanks in advance!
    Mary Jo

Doi! Yeah, that did it. Thanks!!!

  • Video Podcast not in Video Podcast Folder

I download several video podcasts from iTunes, which do not show in the video podcast folder of my iPod. What can I do to change this???
Thank you for your any assistance!

Some users seem to be having issues with the latest build (10.2.2) where files are not moved/renamed after downloading. It works fine for me in a test library so I'm not quite sure what the issue is. You may find things sor themselves out if you turn off Keep iTunes Media folder organised and then turn it back agaqin (assuming you use that feature). Hopefully the next update isn't too far away.
Alternatively you can try my script ConsolidateByMoving which should move selected files that are in the "wrong" place to their standard iTunes locations.

  • ITune won't transfer Video Podcast (TED talk video) to my ipod

    Hi,
I had a problem lately: iTune will not transfer "TED talk" podcast video, it was working before. All my other podcast sync (and I verified that "TED talk" was checked in the sync tab) even when I transfer them manualy it won't copy to my iPod. The videos play on my computer. I tried to unsuscribe and resubcribed, nothing work. I really don't know where the problem come from but it seem that other had the same problem on windows...
    iTune 9.0.2 (25)
    Mac OsX 10.4.11
    iPod classic 60 Gig (1.3)

Me too. I've read the work around, but it is kind of a PITA.
Right click on the video, click on covert to ipod, it gets converted and shows up under Movies in iTunes...drag and drop into the ipod.
It works for me, but is a problem.

  • When I am watching video podcasts in iTunes video is very slow to pause ...

I have some interesting video from iTunesU on my iMac iTunes server
and sync them to the iPad where the video is mobile and wonderful,
    but ...
When playing, I tap and tap on the screen sometimes and the video controls
will not show up, like if I want to adjust the volume or scrub to another
    location, rewind, etc.
Is there a secret to hitting the right spot, or does everyone have this problem?
Is this just a tweaking problem with interrupts inside the iPad OS or is
something wrong? Is there a way to get the controls to stay on screen all
the time so this does not happen?

Does no one else have this problem.
If I want to turn the volume up or down, or pause the video for a moment,
I am furiously tapping on the screen to get the iPad's attention, and it can
take a long time for that thing to hear me and pop up the control in the
    video.
    Is it just me?

  • Can't see text on video podcast page until video is fully loaded

Is there any way to change the load order, or am I stuck? It sounds simple, but I have not found it yet...
Moving parts front to back doesn't seem to help.

The few movies that I have are either flash or QuickTime using an iFrame and everything seems to load before the movies.

  • Viewing video podcasts from podcast list without video please

With previous versions of the iPhone software I could listen to a video podcast without the video playing, by selecting the podcast from the podcast menu. Now when I do that, the video plays where the podcast art used to display. This *****, especially when I am driving or jogging and want to conserve battery life by keeping the screen off. If anyone has found a way to revert to this behavior let me know and if there isn't a way, this is a formal request to provide a switch for this under settings allow for this.

  • Podcasts are without video after iTunes 702 update !!

After updating to iTunes 702, my previously downloaded podcasts are not viewing any video, just the audio.
Anyone has the same problem ??

When I navigate via Music/Podcasts (or Podcasts straight off the main menu if you have your iPod configured that way), I get the audio and video podcasts and these are then played back audio-only (ie any video podcasts are played back from that menu as thought they were audio-only, which isn't a bad thing if I have my iPod in my pocket, as I guess it uses less power than generating the video which I'm not watching?).
To watch video podcasts including the video, I have to navigate through the menus via Videos/Video Podcasts, then I see only the video podcasts and any I select from there are played back audio+video.
If that isn't the case for you too, I don't have any suggestions because I don't think I am doing anything particular to make it work that way. This is with a 5.5G 80Gbyte iPod and the latest firmware and iTunes software.

  • Video Podcast pause problem

Actuating pause during playback of video podcasts causes the video window to close. This happen using either the new on-screen pause control or the Tray controller. This requires having to restore the iTunes window and restart the video.
This behavior started with version 7 and the 7.0.1 update has not fixed it.

Newer updates have solved t he problem.

  • How do I create a self-contained video podcast for download?

I have a series of videos from a conference I taped years ago that I want to make availanble to people as a digital download. I have purchased some training coruses from places like Ripple that send you an e-mail with a link to the download the course material. Clicking on it opens up iTiunes and downloads the entire training course as a Podcast (video). So it is not hosted on iTunes and is self-contianed to download all "eppisodes."
How is this done? How is this created so I can post it on a server and have people download it? Auto-instal to iTunes would be nice if easily acheivable.
    Thanks.

This page explains how to create a podcast:
    http://rfwilmut.net/pc
It's written with audio podcasts in mind, but there's little difference in making a video podcast. Your video files must be .mp4, .m4v or .mov, not .wma or .swf (Flash).
In the 'enclosure' tag the 'type attribute must be as follows for the different file types:
    .mp4
    video/mp4
    .m4v
    video/x-m4v
    .mov
    video/quicktime
Most podcast creation programs or service will handle that for you, so it's probably only relevant if you are handwriting the feed.
