Viewing videos in iPhoto

Just downloaded Snow L. and now I can't simply double click on videos to run in the new Quicktime.
Any suggestions. I have iLife '08. Was I supposed to know that it doesn't work with Snow?
Got tons of video that I can't see.
Sure I can go the long way and view if I launch QT but why go through the hassle when it was so easy before in 10.5?

Can't view video in iPhoto on my iMac but I can view it on my iPad! Source of video iPhone, sent to me via email. Appears in iPhoto on my iMac as a blank folder. Using OSX 10.9.5 Maverick. Any ideas? I have the same problem with a voice recording sent to me in the same way.

That's a whole new ball game. Go the System/iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Photos check box.
In iPhoto go to its iCloud preference pane and uncheck all checkboxes.
Reboot, and go back to each preference pane and recheck those boxes. That should jumpstart the Shared Photo Streams.

How to view videos in iPhoto '08

Using iPhoto '08 with latest version for iMac OS X version 10.9.4. Had this problem previously and had to call apple support representative some time ago. It was corrected but has happened again. Don't remember what was changed to correct this issue. I believe I had to install optional package using the Snow Leopard disc. After that, don't remember...Any suggestions before I call Apple Support?

I just upgraded to iLife '08, and when I double click on a short movie clip in my library QuickTime starts but does not play the click (no quicktime window appears). It has been a while, but I believe I was able to play the movie clips from within iPhoto '06.

Where did the movie files come from? Select one of the movie files in the Finder and bring up the info window, Command-i. There set Quicktime Player as the default application and click on the Apply to All button.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. I cannot view video clips in iphoto. quicktime used to open automatically but no longer

I cannot view video clips I created and syncd from my iphone into iphoto. Quicktime used to open automatically. Now it wont for some reason.

If you have iPhoto 8 and Lion then download and install QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later. That should let you view clips in the iPhoto library.

Help viewing video clips in iphoto 08.

I recently downloaded both photos and video clips taken from my iphone 5 and downloaded to my mac OSX 10.6.8 computer (as I have many times before.) I quickly discovered that I can no longer view video clips in the iphoto 08 program as I have always been able to do. Why? Typically, I would double click on video clip and it would play in iphoto.

I can commiserate about the bad disk drive, because I went through that.
The latest version of iMovie is 9.01 (also known as iMovie 11).
About your movies in iPhoto...did iMovie see them before? Were you on iMovie 11 before?
Will they play in iPhoto? If they will play in iPhoto, chances are you can import them into iMovie. Note where they are in iPhoto by using right-click (or control-click)/Reveal in Finder.
In iMovie, use FILE/IMPORT FROM.../ to find that file and import it.
If your laptop is less than three months old, it may have come with iMovie 11. If it is older, it probably had iMovie 09. iMovie 11 came out in late October.
If you were on iMovie 11 before, then reinstalling iMovie should make iPhoto movies visible again, assuming they were not corrupted in some way. When you convert to iMovie 11 it upgrades the thumbnail files (but not the video clips) in such a way that is not backward compatible.

How to view videos in iCloud published iPhoto Journal using web browser?

If I publish an iPhoto Journal containing videos to iCloud and then attempt to view the journal from a web browser e.g. Safari, I see a single image corresponding to each video, but when I select one of them, I get a backwards, play/pause and forwards buttons, but those only control treating the images as a slideshow. I don't see any buttons that correspond to playing the contents of each video. Do I have the incorrect format for the videos (they are .mp4 files created using Handbrake from the original .MOV files which is what my camera creates)?

No permission to view video in shared iPhoto library

Hello. First time posting on the apple forum. I have set up our macbook pro such that from both of our accounts we share the same iPhoto library in a public/shared folder. We are using iPhoto '09. We are not having any problems sharing the photos. However, when we download our iPhone4 videos to iPhoto, we cannot view each other's videos. We keep getting the error "You do not have permission to view this video". I found the actual video files and made sure the permissions are set to everyone "read and write" yet it still doesn't allow us to see each other's videos in quicktime. Can anybody help me?

Thanks for your help. I rebuilt the iPhoto library's permissions which allowed my wife to view my videos from her user account. I still could not view hers until through her user account I rebuilt the iPhoto library's permissions again. This then let me view her videos and she could still view mine. So that was very helpful. However, any new videos that I add still run into the same problem. Videos I upload from my phone cannot be viewed from her user account. Please advise
I have the iPhoto library under my user account, in the dropbox of the public folder. Permissions on the Public folder and the Dropbox folder and the iPhoto library all say me, my wife and everybody is read and write permissions. iPhoto in both my and my wife's user accounts point to the same iPhoto library. Do I need to move the library to the "Shared" user account? Are their permissions that need to be changed on my iPhone or through iTunes?

can't view videos after Snow Leopard/QuickTime X upgrade
QuickTime 7.6.6_snowleopard shows up as an icon on my desktop, but won't install. It says to look in the app store or in the computer. Any hints on what program to use to open it?
Thought about trying disk utility but now worried about erasing all the contents of the disk. Photos and videos stored on a LaCie hard drive.
This is the first time a software update has not automatically installed.

No - as you have observed iPhoto '08 and iPhoto '09 use a different library structure and neither can read the others library - iPhoto '09 can convert '08 libraries to '09 but it is (as you are warned when you do it) a one way process - if you want to share a library all versions of iPhoto must be the same so you would need to purchase iLife '09 for the mini

I downloaded a bunch of pictures and 1 video from my Canon camera and I can't play the video in iPhoto. How do I play it and how do you work with videos?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When you installed Snow Leopard did you select the option to include Quicktime Player 7 in the installation? It would be in the Applications/Utilities folder. If it's not there then do a custom install of SL and select just QT Player 7.
If it's there then it could be a codec issue as Roddy has already pointed out.

How can i watch my uploaded videos in iphoto

I have uploaded pics and videos from my iphone and i want to watch the videos in my iphoto. It will not play. Who can help?

A bit of a wild guess but download and install QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later and then try viewing the videos in iPhoto again.

Published Videos from IPhoto to Gallery have sound but no video in browser

I've published some iphoto pictures and videos to a gallery on MobileMe. The videos in the gallery will play in the browser but there is no video, just sound.
The videos in IPhoto work fine, but through the browser they have no image. Do I need a special plugin to play these videos off the site? I simply let IPhoto upload them to the gallery, so I assumed it would do whatever it needed to ensure they will play...
Any help would be appreciated...I've tried viewing the videos with Firefox and Safari, but I get the same behavior. I tried downloading the file and it is the same bahavior, however the originals in the IPhoto albums work just fine...I assume this means a conversion is happening, but to what format?? They have an AVI extension, were originally downloaded from a Canon 770is camera.
I confirmed I can play the video on a Windows computer. I also downloaded the file from the gallery and opened in Quicktime and used the inspector to see:
Format is 'MJPG' 640x480..it also downloaded with a .MOV extension rather than the AVI listed in gallery....

Is the video within iTunes or just in your movies folder?
If it is not iTunes then ignore the "itunes" portion below.
Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
~/library/caches
~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
- Repair your permissions - > http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
- Restart your computer again
- Test and see how its working
