Viewing waveform/vectorscopes before capturing.

My organization has changed from Final Cut Pro to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. We have been having a lot of issues. One thing we’d like to do is view the waveform/vector scopes while adjusting and viewing before the actual capturing from cassette. We are capturing from Sony digital video cassette recorder msw-m2000 (for the most part) and adjusting audio and video levels on an external device before digitizing. In Final Cut we could view the waveform/vector scopes within the software. Is there a way to do this within Adobe Premiere Pro as well?

My computer has a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card in it for analogue inputs and outputs. For SD material, the video output of the tape deck is connected directly to the BM card. On the composite output of the BM card is a WFM / VM to check the video levels. That way I can check that the A to D converters in the BM card are not being overdriven and clipping the peak whites (and chroma). Adjustments are made by the TBC controls on the tape deck or an external TBC depending on the tape format. IE the Betacam deck has its own TBC controls, but VHS / SVHS goes via a separate TBC.
The audio from the tape deck goes via an audio desk (with limiters on at PPM6) and then into the BM card. For monitoring, the HDMI output of the BM card, goes to a TV monitor and the audio output of the TV feeds the monitoring speakers and a pair of PPM meters. The audio levels have been carefully set up so that -12 dBfs = PPM 4 and hence peak level is -4dBfs = PPM6. This means that 0 dBfs = PPM7 = clipping in premiere.
In case anyone is wondering why the audio is taken through the TV (rather than directly from the BM card's phono outputs), this ensures that the audio is exactly in sync with the picture, otherwise there is about a 1 frame difference.

  • Viewing multiple thumbs before importing?

    Hi,
I am going through photo discs trying to accumulate relevent photos to make a Photo Book. I don't want to import every single photo on each disc in order to look at and them in iPhoto - and would prefer not to have to click on each photo to see what it is before importing. Does anyone know if there is a way to view multiple thumbs before selecting which to import?

Ah yes...thank you very much! I never venture up there because I am terrified I will mess with stuff that should be just left alone and I have developed a blind spot to then search up there for things.... Unfortunately there is nothing in the Contextual Menu Folder so I can't manually remove anything there.
Unless you have another suggestion, I suppose I will browse around his site and see if there is a reference to solving this particular problem in downloading the program.
    Thanks for your help Terence.

Reference SR 3-9765282261 : RFI Buyer Printable View report doesn't capture questionaire responded by Suppliers (@Bug/ER#: 20623991)
    Hi,
As part of the Business Process we submit RFI template for supplier to fill up the questionnaires. After supplier responded, the answers will be captured in Oracle SLM.  Buyer has the option to view responses in various way and format.  For the above case, go to Action list, select "Buyer Printable View" in specific RFI, the report in PDF format is launched.  However, only questions are available, it does not include supplier's feedback.  Is this standard function?  I think this is a bug though but I was told not

This is standard functionality, as the printed copy is circulated to the suppliers.

  • How to view waveforms in DIAdem that were saved in Labview using "write waveforms to file" VI

I'm new to DIAdem but would appreciate any help to my question.
I seem to be having a little trouble but how do I view waveforms
in DIAdem that were saved in Labview using "write waveforms to file" VI??
    tks, Terry

    Hello,
There are several ways to write waveform data from LabVIEW so it can be accessed from DIAdem. Two of the easiest ways are to use either .lvm files or .tdm files. You can write .lvm files using the Write LabVIEW Measurement File.vi which is located in the File I/O palette. You can write .tdm files by using the storage VIs which are located in the File I/O >> Storage palette. So, I would recommend using either of these file formats if you are developing a new application since these can be loaded into DIAdem directly.
If you are interested in loading files that where already created from the Write Waveforms to File.vi, I am wondering what file type you are using. For example are you saving your files as .dat or .txt with your Write Waveforms to File.vi? Feel free to reply to this thread with this information and I would be glad to help you out.

  • Need to install language pack on reference machine before capturing image?

we have captured image via MDT 2013 using sysprep and capture method so how integrate or add language pack? need to install language pack on reference machine before capturing image?

You don't HAVE to install them on the reference machine. Here are some examples, both online and offline:

  • Changing color and contrast before capturing analog video?

Is it possible to change color (colorcast / saturation and contrast etcetera) before capturing analog video in Final Cut (software)? I have some old dv tapes I would like to upscale to hd and are considering to upscale via the super vhs outlet / connector on the camera through an I/O box (maybe Matrox).
Do you loose much quality when compared to capturing from DV (digital capture)? I would like to make "a first generation" good capture.....

You would need a capture card and a deck with built in controls, or an external TBC that works with compatible decks. Not every deck allows for this external control.
S-VHS or component out would be lesser quality than straight DV capture via firewire. Via firewire it is lossless...straight digital capture. analog capture is a loss of quality. Capture as DV and then upscale with After Effects or Compressor...or get a DV deck with SDI out and capture with...oh, the Mini doesn't do SDI. You'd need the MXO2 LE for best quality capture. With your options, the best bet would be capture as DV and then use Compressor. Or spring for the Matrox MXO2 LE.
    Sorry, good quality costs...

I've had exactly this problem, the slider to answer doesn't work. I almost never use my iPhone as a phone (have another phone for that) but today my daughter phoned me a couple of times since we were shopping for Christmas presents. It looked like every other call was successful. She called me three times two calls each time, on all occurences, the iPhone was unresponsive at the first attempt, not possible to answer. When she called again some seconds later I was able to answer, the same behavior three times! Is there a solution for this bug? Until solved, I´ll stick to using my iPhone for everything except using it as a phone, rather crappy to not be able to answer calls every other time...
Don't know if the problem is related to 3.1.2, have only used it as a phone a couple of times before upgrading to 3.1.2,

  • Need To Flip Video Feed Before Capture

My video was filmed using a Red Rock attachment and it flips the video image before it hits the DV tape. All of my tapes carry upside down video, which is not a problem, I would just like to flip/rotate the video feed 180 degrees BEFORE I capture it. I have Final Cut Pro 6 within FCS2, can this be done with this software?
Thanks in advance for anyone's speedy reply.
    ~Ian

Because the editors have nearly 100 tapes to capture and flipping each video scene-by-scene is a terribly laborious process.
I've tried flipping already, but it still leaves unflipped frames at the beginning and end, and other video view boxes still show the original feed unflipped. Capturing it correctly before it gets imported into a project will solve all these problems and save the editors a lot of time.

  • Looking for a Hi Res solution for viewing images and for capturing video

We are looking to complete some training videos that utilize a microscope, a Sony Firewire camera (1/3-inch Progressive Scan Color CCD 1024x768 Pixel Array). I want to capture the video on a macbook (imovie or FCE) and be able to make some training DVDs.
In addition, I need to purchase a monitor (cinema display??) that would allow people to view the manipulation from the microscope.
Whay type of setup am I looking at ? Will the Apple Cinema display work for this and give a hi res image on it?
I am not familar with the displays or the desired setup (the video out on the macbook be acceptable as the video comes in from the camera or does the camera go directly to the monitor?
ny insight would be appreciative. Thank you

    Hi jforsberg,
What we need to know is that microscope have a video out or practically you use the Sony to capture the video thru microscope using custom tripod or camera holder?
If using you Sony is the case, then you can use iMovie for that, and you can view it "live" while you capture (import) it by selecting the input menu to your sony like shown here by EZJIM:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1091996&tstart=25
And you can mirror the screen from macbook to bigger external screen using mini DVI adapter. There are three option mini dvi to vga, mini dvi to dvi, and mini dvi to video, and if you want to use apple cinema display I believe you have to buy the mini dvi to dvi.
And apple said that macbook can drive up to 23" cinema display with 1440 x 900 resolution, but other user on macbook forum reportedly can use with other bigger screen and bigger resolution as well.
Best way is you visit apple store and buy that adapter and have it tested with both 23" and 30" (I believe apple guy won't mind considering you are a potential cinema display buyer).
    Good Luck.

  • Can't Move Audio Clips in Timeline After Expanding to View Waveforms (Premiere Pro CC 2014.2)

So, this seems to be a bit of a weird one, and I'd be pretty stoked if it ended up being something silly that I'm doing wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what that might be.
As the title suggests, I can't use the mouse to move some audio clips in a timeline once I expand the track to view the waveforms. This appears to only happen with independent audio clips (WAV. AIFF, MP3, etc), and not with clips attached to video. Also, it's worth noting that I don't have track keyframes turned on. I was hoping that was it, but it wasn't.
    So, what happens is this:
    1) I drag an audio clip down to the timeline (I can drag it onto an existing track, or drag to the bottom of the sequence and create a new track. Neither option seems to get a different result.).
    2) So long as the track isn't expanded and the waveform isn't visible, I can move the clip left, right, or up and down to a different track.
    3) As soon as I expand the track to view the waveform this functionality goes out the window. When this issue happens I can use the keyboard to nudge left and right, but that's about all the movement I have.
    4) It's almost as though the track becomes corrupt. The lanes for the track don't redraw properly, and the track is pretty much unusable. I can't put anything into it, and I can't take anything out. All I can do is delete the track and start again.
Complicating issues is that this doesn't always happen, but instead is one of those "vast majority of the time" issues. I can't see any rhyme or reason for why it works or doesn't. I seem to do the exact same thing, but occasionally get different results. It doesn't matter what type of file I'm using (WAV, AIFF, etc), and this only happens with independent audio clips.
Once again, I don't have track keyframing turned on when this happens. Believe me, I wish that was it.
I have already filed a couple of bug reports about this over the last month or so, but haven't heard anything yet. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue, and if so, whether they had any workarounds.
    Mandatory system info:
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-Bit)
    Intel i7-3820
    32GB RAM
    Nvidia GTX 980 (350.12)
    Premiere Pro CC 2014.2

    Update:
I was just looking to post a screenshot of the timeline when I discovered something interesting. As soon as I use the vertical scroll bar to the right of the sequence, the tracks start to work again. Close off the waveform and the clip goes haywire. Move the scroll bar a tiny bit (or a lot), and suddenly the clip starts working.
    Pretty bizarre.
The good news is that for the time being that could be a workaround, though it would be great for this to not happen at all.

  • Is there a way to view video while using Capture?

This 'playing on video hardware' thing.
Is that just a 'it's just part of the program, get used to it' situation or is there something I can do to view the video I'm caputuring?
Thank you in advance for your time.
    Brad

"No; HDV is not displayed during capture in the capture window. SD video is though. "
    Thanks CWRIG,
It's just one of those things. .
It puts my mind at ease knowing I can't do anything about it.
So, I'm not spending the next 3 hours searching for a solution that doesn't exsist.

  • How to validate the values inputted in Salestext view at MM02 before saving

    Hello All,
Does anyone know what FM or user exit to use in order to validate the values inputted in Salestext view at MM02 transaction before saving it.
    Regards,
    Alfred

    Hello,
Find the user exits if any after finding keep the break point in the exits and check that cursor is trigrring that exit or not. If it triggers check the value of the salestext exits in the exporting parameters or not.
if exits then keep do the validations.

  • 2 Reference monitors for Waveform/Vectorscope

CS3 - Is there a way to add a second reference monitor? The first for waveform and the second for vectorscope? I don't care for the combined ones because they are too small. Also, is there a way to make it default to waveform every time PP starts instead of having to change it to that mode every time? Finally, what does it take to make them display realtime while the video plays?
    Thanks!
    C

I don't think there is a way (I would love to learn there is, though).
But you know what? I agree completely (and I made sure this was heard) that WFM and Vectorscope are the essential ones and that the existing combo options make them way too tiny. What we need is not a second reference monitor, but these two things: one one hand, more versalite combination options (so you can have whichever two you want, side by side). On the other, the scopes display shouldn't have a fixed aspect like it does now. It should resize, even deform, the scope display so that it fits horizontally as you drag the reference panel as you like.

  • Audio Wave problem in Viewer (havent seen before)

    Hi,
This is a problem I havent seen before. I double click my audio in the timeline to work with it in the Preview window but the waveforms dont show up.... I can hear it but can't see anything. And when I scroll left or right (in the preview window) turns to thick black vertical lines mixed with green and gray horizontal lines.
There's no real science to the problem that I can figure out. It happens to Stereo pair clips and Mono clips. SOmetimes the waveform will show up everywhere but in between the in and out marker.
It's drivin me nuts. Got any ideas??? Much appreciated.
    chris!
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Every time you turn on the waveform in FCP, it has to generate files that relate back to the waveforms that you are looking at. Sometimes, the cache files get out of whack. Delete them and FCP will draw new waveforms and new cache files.
If it happens again, just flush those cache files. Not big deal.

  • CP4 - View Current Frame of Captured Animation?

Hello all, I'm a new CP4 user, so bear with me on this question.
When editing, I was wondering how I can view the current frame under the playhead for a captured animation WITHOUT scrubbing?
I have a bunch of captions to align to elements in the captured animation, but in edit mode I can only see the first frame of the animation, and I have to scrub (drag playhead) in the timeline to see what is visible in the animation at that time frame in which I am working.
    Thanks!
    Rob

    Hi there
If you want to see the animation in a paused state, scrub the timeline using the mouse until you see the part where you wish to add a caption. Then, without releasing the mouse, press Alt + Tab to switch to a full screened application. You may now release the mouse. Press Alt+Tab to return to Captivate and you should still see the image as if you were still scrubbing. You could then screen capture it or use some other method to aid in correctly placing the caption or element you are adding.
I'd like to add that this is but one of several reasons recording using Full Motion is generally a bad idea.
    Cheers... Rick
