Viewing webpages on a mac

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a fix for websites that I can't view on mac. I'm not too sure why i can't view the sites, its usually when i try to watch a video and then it says plug-in missing or something like that. Also, i went to z95.com and tried to listen to there radio station and same thing happened.
Im just wondering if anyone out there knows of a fix for this, thanks!
PS: i posted a topic about my mac shutting down, the firmware update seems to have fixed it yay =D!

More than likely you do need a plugin and it's probably Windows Media. The best thing to do is to download and install the Flip4Mac Quicktime plugin which will allow you to view those Windows Media files within QT.
Glad to hear you're shut downs were fixed with the firmware!

• HT1338 connection to internet ok but cannot view webpages in browser

I have a MacBook that has always been able to connect to the internet and view webpages aok until this afternoon. Although it is connected to the Internet ok, it will not let me view any webpages in either Safari or Firefox. The page justs spins and spins and never loads. I've tried a few different websites and have also tried via both our wireless connection and hardline connection to no success.
I am able to connect to the internet and view webapges ok on a different computer on the same network so I believe this problem is limited to my MacBook.
I've done some research and understand that maybe something called 'mDNSResponder' could be the problem? Something about problems resolving the hosts via DNS?  I've seen some suggestions on how to fix this but I am wary of just doing a bunch of stuff that someone posted online - especially when it involves commands with the word 'kill' in it. And I'm not understanding where I am supposed to type those commands anyway - in Terminal?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Ruth,
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON?
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6/10.7 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

No.  Create a playlist that you then sync to your iPod, and choose whatever view you wish of the playlist within iTunes.

• Viewing TIF files in Mac OS X v4

Hello:
I have been sent some files in TIF format but I cannot find a way to view these files in Mac OS X (10.4). I have confirmed that the files are not corrupted, since I can transfer them to a Windows PC and view them there, but OS X does not appear to have a file viewer that can read them.
Can anyone advise what program can be used for this purpose?
Thanks.
Michael Trotz

Since you can open the TIFFs on a PC, then there must be something wrong with Preview on your Mac. You can use Pacifist to extract the Preview application from your original OS X installation CD/DVD. Replace the one currently on the hard drive.
But there's quite a few other apps that will open a TIFF. Photoshop, Graphic Converter, InDesign, Quark and Illustrator to name a few. There's a bunch of free and shareware viewers you could download here.

I already bought mac book pro last year but it can't view windows just like mac pro for education. I want to make like mac pro for education How?

First, if you have a MACBOOK PRO (a laptop), you should post in that forum. MAC PRO (desktop) and Macbook Pro are different things, so when you use those terms interchangeably, it's impossible to know what you're talking about.
Second, even guessing that you have a laptop, I still have no idea what your question means. Are you trying to load Microsoft Windows on it? Every Mac can run Windows using either Boot Camp or Parallels/Fusion/VMWare solutions. Please explain in more detail what you're trying to do, and we'll try to help. But post in the Macbook Pro forum if you're talking about a laptop.

• HT5422 How to get an better screen-update? The view on the remote Mac is nearly static.

How to get an better screen-update? The view on the remote Mac is nearly static.

You can try reducing the bit depth of the screen image  via the slider in the upper-right of the Control window. If that doesn't help, you may just not have a sufficiently fast network connection to correctly handle the data transfer necessary. This is often the case if you're connecting across the Internet. What is your network speed between the administration system and the client?

• Viewing webpage data

On previous versions of Safari you could right click and see an option for viewing webpage data, or coding.  Is this gone from Safari 8 in Yosemite?
Patrick

Greetings,
It sounds like your cache isn't being purged, or there's something preventing it from being purged, so try this:
1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
Downloads.plist
History.plist
Form Values
LastSession.plist
WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Disk Permission, restart Safari and see if the problem continues.

• Cannot view webpage on Mac

I gave my mom the iBook I bought from my college at graduation. The only way she can view her work schedule is online, but on both her iBook and my MacBook we cannot get that page to show. The link doesn't even show up on the main pages. Everything else on the website works fine, it's just that missing link and page. The page ends with .asp, and we've tried IE, Firefox and Safari. I think there was something about needing ActiveX or something like that? Is there any way we can get it working on her computer so she doesn't have to keep getting it at my dad's office?

I found this on Microsoft's Mactopia website. Hope it is useful, but it doesn't look good. I did a little more searching, and apparently, ActiveX content is not supported on Mac OS X. So, you might try this in IE, and see if it allows you to view the rest of the page.
Why am I receiving ActiveX errors when I try to view certain web pages?
Some web pages may have ActiveX controls that have been built for the Win32 platform and don't support Mac OS. If this happens and you are unable to view the page, you can turn off the viewing of ActiveX content. To do so, choose Preferences from the Edit menu, click Web Content under Web Browser, and then clear the Enable ActiveX checkbox. If this fixes your problem, the ActiveX control most likely did not support Mac OS.
• Friends with PCs cannot view iMovie on my Mac webpage

After announcing my iMovie posted on my webpage to my family, they cannot view. Most have PCs and say they cannot download Quicktime 7.0 with iTunes. What can I do to enable them to view?
Should I remake my iMovie with earlier Apple software in a way that they can view?

Ronbea,
I do this all the time at work, using iMovie to post
2 minute demo reels of various artists on a server so
people with PCs can watch the movies. Here is what I
do (a variation of what Karsten suggested):
When in iMovie, and you have your movie project saved
in the lower time-line, go to File>Share. A new
window will open. In the "Compress movie for:"
selection, choose "Expert" settings. Click the blue
"Share" button. Another window will open called "Save
exported movie as". Click on the "Options" button.
Another window will open. Click on "Settings". This
is where you can choose the correct setting so PC
users can see your movie. In the top pull-down
selector, choose "Sorenson 3". When in this same
window, you may want to change the "Compressor
Quality" to Medium or Low, as this will save a ton of
space. Click OK, and this will bring you to the
previous window. Now, click on "Size" and choose
"Custom Size" and type in Width: 320, Height: 240.
Click "OK". Click "OK" again, then you will be back
to the window that enables you to "Save" your movie
and name it what you want (keep the .mov extension as
this is what Quicktime movies need), and to save it
where you want. Try this. Once you do this once, it
will be easy the next time. When you get familiar
with these choices, there are others within the
windows that allow you to change settings for
"Streaming Video" and for a variety of broadband
settings. But start by simply choosing what I
suggest here. I have never had a problem with a PC
not being able to see these movies. Worst case, your
"PC friends" can download a version of QT without
iTunes (something like QT6) that will allow them to
view anything up to the latest QT7 formats. The H264
is a version of MPEG4 from QT7 and is great, but you
must have the latest version of QT to view these
movies.
Hi Daniel, and Karsten,
Thanks for quick reply and thoughts,
I tried what Daniel suggested but and couldnèt find the Compress Movie for: window after clicking on File Share. Not sure if this makes a difference, but I am using iMovie HD.
When I click on File Share, the window shows options menu for me to go to email, webpage, videocamera, iDVD, QT, Bluetooth.

• Viewing Webpages with Flash in Safari 3

The webpage loads, leaving wherever the flash may be blank... I am not recieving a missing plug in message or any other kind of message... For instance if you go to www.aldoshoes.com I can see everything around where the flash should be; and if you go to www.diesel.com nothing at all loads..
But when i bring up internet explorer pages come up fine...
I downloaded all the needed plug in's that are on the main download page for Safari 3 and am still having problems..
I really am considering switching to a MAC and so far i absolutely love Safari.. Much better than Internet Explorer.. Just cant view any flash at all...

Flash 9 works well in IE7, Firefox, and Netscape, but Safari doesn't notice I have any flash version. It's a flaw in the beta, not a lack of a plug-in on the user's machine. I've installed the plug-in offered by Adobe, which is the same one linked to by Apple. Regardless, in Safari, any page module that relies on Flash appears blank or, at most, with a notice that I need Flash to view it.

• Missing fonts when viewing webpages?

ok i tried to solve a problem i had earlier bec my desktop was not accessable by deleting some fonts that I installed and now when i view certain webpages words are not showing up correctly? Should I just deleted all my fonts and then install a new set?? I have no clue what to do bec nothing seems to work and now my computer is running very slow? Thanks for any suggestions

does anyone know if this will work???
just to give you some guidance OS X has two directories for fonts one in the system /Libraries/Fonts and one specific to each user /Users/"user_name"/fonts. The reason you have two folders is as follows. In the system folder OS X uses these fonts to operate the system such as icons, menus task bars etc. Deleting these fonts may destabilize the OS. Maybe the more advanced users can verify this. Most if not all applications will use fonts from the user's fonts folder.
Normally u should only install/delete files in the master directory if you know what you're doing. Actually a rule of thumb is only install things in your user_name's directories. The reason being that any problem that occurs would be local and not systemic.
The way to re-install your default fonts is as follows:
(1) insert OS X install disc 1
(2) once disk is mounted, scroll down and open the following
System => Installation => Packages
(3) In this folder you will find a lot of useful things one of them is titled, "additionalfonts.pkg"
(4) double click on it and it should reset your fonts folder to it's default setting
Some of the fonts u outlined are not default to OS X. With those I recommend reinstalling the application.
Remember.. this is not windows. Everything in Mac has a well throughout reason. I was a windows user some time ago. I recommend that you buy some training manuals on the OS
