Viewing Workspace/Artboard names whne placing illustrator image

Is there anyway to see the name of a workspace/artboard when placing a graphic from Illustrator into InDesign?
Currently when I select "Show Options" I am only given the number and a preview. In a few of my documents I have a number of pie charts that all look very similar and I name each of the artboards to keep them straight, but that is lost when trying to place them since I just get numbers.
Any help or suggestions on an improved workflow would be appreciated.

  • Why am I having lines/borders appearing around my placed Illustrator images in my Indesign Document?

After I save my InDesign Document and close it... When I open it back up again. There are borders around all of my Illustrator placed images.
I can't seem to find out what is causing them or how to get rid of them.
When I am working on the file with it open they are not there.. it's only after I save, close and reopen.
    What the heck????

    Thanks for asking Will....
I've gotten so confused with back issues of the file....saved in InDesign CC that I just started over..
Was simpler to do that than to try to fix the one I was working on.....
But while I have you trying to help me..
Could you tell me how to set the document setup for a new document in InDesign CC to inches?
I tried going into the preferences.... it's not there.. Looked through all of the preferences.. still can't find it.
The documents I'm working on are 47" x 28" or thereabouts and I am having to go back to InDesign 5.5
create the document there then open it in InDesign CC to have it the right size.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Feathering Illustrator image placed in InDesign

I'm using Creative Suite Profession CS3.
I'm seeking your advice on the best way to achieve a good outcome for what I want to do.
I've prepared an Illustrator map which I want to place in InDesign on top of a background image (lots of blue and cloudy sky)  already placed in InDesign. I want the four edges of the map to fade into the image 'seamlessly' but for the map to stand out on top and be clear when printed.
I would like to keep the map image in Illustrator format if I can because I will need to go back to it from time to time to do edits.
I have feathered the frame of the map (Illustrator file) in InDesign on all sides but it is not fading as nicely as I would like into the background image. In places the edges are a little unsightly and tinkering has not improved the result much.
I can't see that I can feather the image in Illustrator. Perhaps the only way to achieve a 'perfect' result is to save the Illustrator image as a Photoshop file and then feather it to my liking in Photoshop. Or perhaps I should just open the Illustrator file in Photoshop but it wouldn't stay as  vector file as I understand it (better to create it as a Photoshop file I would think).
I can see that there are various ways to achieve this result but I am wondering how my learned friends would advise as to the best way to achieve this result - Illustrator to Photoshop file or whatever. If it is a bit complicated or technical, you might be able to point me to the key steps.
    Many thanks.
    Frank

You can create a feathering effect in Illustrator. But the feature has a different name. It's called an Opacity Mask.
Do a Google search for Opacity Mask Illustrator or look in Illustrator Help.

  • Illustrator 5.5: Displaying custom artboard Names under artboards

Displaying custom artboard Names under the artboards
Naming and sorting artboards is a great way to handle multiple page AI files. I'm working on a longterm project that uses a large number of artwords. Is it possible to display the name of the artboard under the artboard itself on the screen?
    Here are examples:
[above: I've currently got over 40 artboards in this one file]
    [above: the listing of artboards]

<why do you need to see the name?> It would be easier for me to see my name tags for all pages.
I was hoping to find a way to show the all the names of artboards on the screen below the artboards, as you do info for stock photos or google images searches. Nothing crazy.
This is what I'm talking about [I've added the page dimension since we can have multiple page sizes in on doc]:

  • Hierarchical menu access when placing an image

How can I get Illustrator to go back to accessing an image folder that is in one of my client project folders when placing an image instead of taking me back to the  main level of my hard drive every time. It used to do this but quit doing so.
For example, my hard drive is set up as Hard drive/Clients/Client Name/12_100 Project _A/x_Linked Images. When working in illustrator, I have set up a keyboard shortcut of Command/e to place an image. The first time I place an image I have to navigate to the project x_linked images folder for the first time. Everytime I need to place a new image, Illustrator used to take me right back to that same x_Lnked Images folder. Now it takes me back to the main level of my hard drive and I hve to click through all of the folders again to get there. Does that make sense? It's slowing me down when I'm working.
    Thanks, Bruce

I'd get Default Folder X from insidersoftware.com if you want to solve this issue. It's mostly a Mac OS issue and pops up depending on what bugs Apple introduces into whatever version they release. Some OS versions go back to the proper folder, other's don't. With Default Folder.. they always do (among other things)

  • CS5 exporting TIF from EPS appends artboard name to the file name

We have recently upgraded to CS5 from CS3. We routinely create EPS files, then export them to TIF's for final use. Previously I used the CROP MARKS tool to set the specific visual size of the art. Without the crop marks, when exporting to a TIF the exported file clips to the edges of the bounding box. In the event I have vertical lines at the outside limits of the drawings they stand the possibilitiy of getting "clipped" or dropped off when the resulting TIF is printed or placed in another document.  I understand the ARTBOARDS have replaced the crop marks setting.  If I create an art board, rename it as MYTAK4 ARTBOARD and then export from the EPS to a TIF, having the radio button "artboard" checked, the resultant TIF file becomes FILENAME_MYTAK4_ARTBOARD.tif.  With the hundreds of files that we create and continually revise, it is important that the any files we revise, maintain the same file name, not another file with same base name, with an appended artboard name tacked on before the TIF extension.  The only solution I have arrived at is to RENAME the file once the TIF is exported to remove the unwanted artboard portion of the name. Anyone have a better solution?

    Hi,
We just released this tool: FERRY (http://ferry.thedamarmada.com). It does exactly what you want and a little bit more.
    I think it's worth it a try.
It comes with a free demo that will export 5 layers.
Take a look and let us know if it's what you need.
    It could be easily tweaked.

  • In mini bridge, is it possible to view the file name and the rating at the same time?

    Hello,
In mini bridge, is it possible to view the file name and the rating at the same time?
    Thank you.

if you know when a new image arrives and you can retrieve that new image file name ...
Well, that's precisely my doubt, how can I know the file name? Is there a property/method for it?

    var imgLoader:Loader=new Loader;
    imgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,imgLoaded);
    imgLoader.load(new URLRequest(imgPath + imagesNames[i]));
    function imgLoaded(par:Event):void {

  • Placing an image in Indesign CS5- Previews are slow

I have a customer with identical intel MacPros, 10.5.8 OSX, 8GB RAM and running CS5.
Whenever they go to PLACE an image in either InDesign or Illustrator the preview window that comes up takes up to 65 seconds for a preview to appear in the window. These are images(TIFFs or EPS) that are over 200MB.
    What I've done so far:
Timed image preview when placing an image from server or off of desktop- No speed difference in showing the preview.
Took my MacBook Pro and tried to place the images- Immediate preview, no matter the size of the image. Desktop and over the network.
Started their MacPros up in target disk mode- Launched InDesign from their computer- No problem.
Started my MacBook Pro in target disk mode- Launched InDesign from my computer- Same speed issues with preview appearing when placing an image.
Replaced their current video cards with accelerated high end graphic cards. - No performance increase. When previewing a placed image, still very slow.
None of my other customers have this issue. Any clues????

There have been sporadic reports that changing the preference for live screen drawing to delayed from immediate has helped other issues such as this.
Try that first and let us know if it corrects the problem.

  • When placing an image in InDesign, it appears pixelated.  It is a 66mb file in a 6x9" document.

I am new to InDesign, as I've been creating all my documents for print in Acrobat as a PDF.  When I am placing an image, it appears pixelated.

    Hi,
This is an expected behavior, when you place an image in InDesign then it display the preview of the image however you this has no impact on the output unless the image placed is of low-resolution itself.
In order to have good resolution of images, you may switch to View > Display Performance > High Quality.

  • Resizing PNG with Pixel values; Save as artboard name and pixel value

    Hello,
first off, I have never written a Javascript before and I am attempting to.  I have been reading like mad to wrap my head around the Extendscript Toolkit (ESTK) in CS6.  I see the awesome potential but I am concerned my idea may not be completely possible.  That's why I thought I would ask the experts here.
I have a client who needs cursors and icons for apps that are saved out in multiple, transparent PNG sizes and the output filename needs to reflect that name. So for example, I have 2 square artboards, one contains a red car, the other contains the same car but in green, and I want to save both of those as 96x96 pixels, 72 x72 pixels, 48x48, 36x36, and 24x24 (5 different sizes).  I would like the naming scheme to be taken from the artboard name (car_red, car_green) and the pixel value of each size, so the final name would be "car_red_0096x96.png", "car_red_0072x72.png", etc., etc.
The first thing I noticed is that there seems to be no SaveforWeb object in the ESTK.  I discovered ExportOptionsPNG24 which is nice, but it seems to only give a sizing property based on percent (horizontalScale, or verticalScale).  I would like to use the script to make any size artboard the exact pixel dimensions I need, and the percentage scaling property will not allow this, so is there a way to enter in pixel values and not percentage scale values?
This of course leads me to my next question: I was hoping to get the script to, at the press of a button, export the selected artboard to all 5 sizes, with a naming scheme that uses the artbaord name as a prefix and the pixel size as the suffix.  I was hoping to use the pixel value in the code to apply to the suffix
    Is any of this possible?
    Gratefully,
    Dave

  • Why are my Illustrator images getting thicker strokes when I take the bounding box and make them smaller?

Why are my Illustrator images getting thicker strokes when I take the bounding box and make them smaller? This has never happened to me. I'm not an expert at Illustrator, but I do know some fundamentals.

Thank you for responding so quickly. No apologies necessary - I know this Forum isn't McDonalds - don't expect an answer to be served up right away. You helped me out with a big issue yesterday.
    I am using a mac - OSX 10.7.5
    I have Adobe Creative Suites - CS5 - Illustrator version is 15.0.2
The contents I am placing are all  Vector - Illustrator files
But, I wonder about some of the vector files I work with.  Could a "line weight/thickness" be 'assigned' to the drawing and screw things up? I used 'simple' linear (line) drawings from SolidWorks that have been converted to ai files. It's just weird because I checked the stroke of the drawing and it's not out of line.
I am attaching part of some box labels. You can see how the drawings, of the products, on the 'left side' are "thick" after embedding them. I think the "Global Logo" was pasted into a template not linked that's why it's okay. But look at the Quiet Thunder logo - it looks terrible. These labels are only 2.25" X 6.5", so its important I keep the images lightweight.
Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi Group,
I'm having a problem placing Jpeg images in DW CS3. Some come
    in and display
themselves just fine. Others come in as what appears to be
    the file name
displayed as a link, blue text and underlined. Previewed in a

    The image
    "file:///C:/Users/Bob/Documents/CUT/CSL%20Web/My%20Assets/Sandy-Kirk_Web.jpg"

I've looked at the properties of these different images and
    dont have a clue
    what the problem is.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Bob

Look at the line you pasted into your reply and note that
    it's a link
pointing to your hard drive. Of course that will never work
    on the web.
Such broken links are often the result of an improperly
    defined local site.
What happens if you remove that image and insert it again,
    then save the
page? Is the link still broken?

  • Placing an image on top of a Menu

I have recently installed PRE9 (also owned & used PRE8 and earlier versions). After placing an image on a menu template with multple scenes, I burn a dvd. I then view the DVD only to find the image has "disappeared" i.e. I see only the menu template. I have tried various templates and image file formats but end up with the same result. This function has consistently been completed without any issues on the same computer using PRE8. Not sure if this is relevant... the PRE9 version was originally a trial version which was subsequently converted to full license.

    The process is as follows:
Disc Menu tab > Select & then Apply "wedding/elegant template" > Select Main Menu 1 > Browse for still image (1000x563 PSD file) > Done. Do the same for Scenes Menu 1 using the same image.
Share tab > Disc > Burn
Play DVD > Background image has disappeared. I see only the original wedding/elegant template on both the Main & Scene Menu.
On returning to the Discus menu tab I observe that the selected background image is still present on both Main & Scene menus
