Vignette Correction + Lens Correction in Camera Raw / Lightroom

Ok i merge 2 requests for both camera raw and lighroom...
-> Vignette Specific Correction: Using preset for Lenses like Canon DPP Does for Peripherical Illuminance Correction, the vignette tool in lighroom is good but can't adapt to a variable vignette profile of each lens...
+ Ability to user to add them using a png 24 bit or similiar for Lenses not present on the DB (think using old lens, with adaptors, old zeiss without automatic controls that obviously will be not profiled by Canon, Nikon, Sony.. for their bodies)
-> Lens Correction based on Preset... + exif reading like in photoshop cs5 + manual adjustments

So you use Photomatix to create a 32-bit HDR file and then tone that 32-bit file in ACR?  Are the Photomatix 32-bit files that much different than the PS-CC 32-bit files?  The Photomatix 32-to-16-bit conversion is quite a bit different and perhaps preferable, but I didn’t realize the 32-bit result file is also that much different.  It’s been a while since I’ve tried 32-bit HDRs and even longer since I’ve tried them in Photomatix so things may have changed or I’ve forgotten.
If you are using Photomatix, then you are not using an Adobe raw conversion at all, so Adobe settings and raw lens profiles are not seen and used at the initial raw-conversion stage in Photomatix.
The choices would seem to be that you can use Adobe products to create 16-bit TIFs as an input to Photomatix, or hack an Adobe raw lens profile to be used with non-raw files in ACR, or do your lens profile corrections after you’ve saved your 32-bit HDR image back as a 16-bit one and use the lens corrections area in Photoshop if that is still possible, nowadays.

    I have not used vignette control in the D700, but my understanding is it only applies to the in camera processed JPG and TIFF images and not to the NEF.  If you had this set in the camera it probably would also apply to NEF files processed with Nikon Capture NX2, but not Camera RAW.

    Swila, were your "other images" previously edited in Camera Raw? I.e., do they already have saved image settings? The defaults that you save via the flyout menu will only apply to new images, or if you reset an existing image to the defaults. (e.g., choose "Camera Raw Defaults" from the flyout menu).

    Maybe show us a screenshot of what you see on the system that isn't want you expect.   What version of ACR are you using in each?  It should be visible in the title bar of the ACR plug-in if you unmaximize it, or you can do About Plug-ins / Camera Raw in PS.

    I downloaded and installed the Camera Raw 6.1 release candidate.  I open an image and set the camera calibration and the lens correction to auto for Nikon.  I save these settings as new Camera raw defaults, but when I open other images, the changes were not made.  How can I save these items as defaults?

  • Over correction in Camera raw

    Hello,
    I have a problem with functionality of camera raw module 8.3 in Adobe CS6.
    The module is over correcting the RAW(.nef) images when selecting "Enable lens profile Corrections".
    The lens are selected right( nikon 24-70 2.8) but it's over corrected in the corners of the image(it's too bright after correction)
    Why this happens after 8 editions of the ACR module?
    I attach image with the demonstraion.
    aperture 2.8 shutter speed 1/400 iso 1400
    1.Why that happens?
    2.Will it be corrected?
    3.If yes, when?

  • Hasselblad 3FR and camera RAW/Lightroom

    I use CS3 and Lightroom for all of my work (Canon Raw) now very happily. Having recently purchased a Hasselblad HD3-31 it would make my day if I could directly import the 3FR files into Lightroom or Camera Raw. I did check before buying and was fully aware that this format was not supported by CR or Lightroom and that there is a mechanism to convert the 3FR files into DNG and then import them into Lightroom. This is however a slow and cumbersome process and it would be far better if I could bring the files straight into Lightroom.
    Does anybody know if Adobe are intending to support this format or is there a third party plugin available. It would be good to hear if anyone else shares this problem and if so what they are doing about it.

    I have now had an update from Hasselblad confirming that they won't share their code and that they feel they have something special in respect of the colour algorithms. Having used both Flexcolour (slow and prone to crashes) and their DNG converter then CR 4.1 I know which I prefer - (hint it comes from Adobe). They have also confirmed that their proprietory lens correction algorithms are not implemented through the DNG conversion. Personally I think that they have made a very poor strategic decision here and that their attempt to buck the marke will fail.
    To answer LRK's point I use Canon 1DsMkII's as my normal system but for certain applications the Haselbald wins hands down. If you compare an image taken on the 1Ds and on HD3 side by side the Hassdelblad image is more detailed, less "jaggy", and has smoother colour transition from pixel to pixel. We purchased this system for food photography and it does this superbly.
    Yes their attitude is annoying, no the software is not perfect, yes the equipment is superbly engineered but the image quality is A1. In England we say it's horse for courses.

  • Need additional Lens Profiles in Camera RAW

    Hello, I have Photoshop CC (always kept up to date), and I would like to add some lens profiles to the camera RAW section. When I select Camera RAW, Lens correction, then Canon, I can not see the lens I actually want, EF16-35 II for the 5DII. This is a very common lens and I have no idea why it is missing.
    Do I need to update this somehow manually?
    (I can see this lens in Photoshop CC, and the Lens filter, but I want/need it in Camera RAW)

    In CameraRaw (I don't have Lightroom) Camera/Lens profiles are tied to the filetype. So, for example, your image is a JPG, CameraRaw won't show DNG/RAW profiles.
    Suggestions: 1) if available, use the RAW file. 2) If it ain't, open the image in an editor that can save the file as a DNG, then do it. The lens profiles will probably be available then.

  • Camera Raw/Lightroom: Kodak DCS SLR/n/c cameras missing Tone Curve support

    I posted this as a support request here (not sure if that is a correct place) with technical details of my debugging the CameraRaw module. Basically, it appears that Lightroom/ACR do not handle the raw files from Kodak DCS SLR/n, SLR/c and 14n(x) cameras correctly. It appears that Lightroom/ACR skips the tonal expansion curve in these raw files and uses the compressed 10bit raw values (with expansion curve applied properly the raw files are 12bit and a curve itself looks very much like Sony ARW one). I provided all the technical details in that referenced post and it should be really easy to fix so I would appreciate if this is passed onto CameraRaw development team.

    Adobe has an almost 31-billion-dollar market cap at the moment, so there are likely layers to their intake process, between the users and the engineers.  What I've suggested providing allows a first-level person at Adobe to demonstrate the clipping of the Adobe conversion relative to Kodak software, without having to get a Kodak camera and Kodak software nor know how to debug a program.  A JPG (converted from the same raw file using Kodak software) provides a Kodak reference image for someone to compare to Adobe processing.
    I am another user like yourself, and someone who was a double-major in computer-science and math before Macs and PCs were invented so can appreciate your analysis, and definitely believe what you're saying is occurring, I'm not questioning that, I'm just suggesting providing enough inputs for a customer-advocate-level person, who likely is the one who reads the forums and feedback site, initially, to demonstrate to themselves what is occurring that results in poor image conversions, so that the information can get into the hands of more technical people that do have ways to look at the code and authority procure cameras as needed to test and fix things.  A lower-level Adobe employee won't have access to the camera to create their own test images and may reside in a different country on the opposite side of the world from those with a debugger.  Even if an engineer did see this thread without it being routed to them via a customer-advocate, if they didn't have a Kodak camera in hand, then it might be too much work at the end of the day or at home at night to start the internal bureaucracy to have one delivered to their office some where in the world, and there might be multiple-levels of sign-off before that occurred, or if they request a loaner from Kodak there could be delays.  Once you see something from Eric Chan, then you know an engineer has taken an interest in this thread, and/or the one on the feedback site.
    If you are just passing on the information from others and don't have your own camera to produce your own raws, then fine, I was assuming you did have the camera in hand based on the detailed analysis you've provided.

  • Scale difference between Camera Raw and Lens Correction Filter in CS6

    I have the latest Camera Raw plugin (8.6.0.254). When I open an NEF file from a D800, the resulting image is 4912x7360 pixels, whether I apply distortion correction or not.
    If I load the NEF file, do not apply distortion correction in Camera Raw, but then apply it via the Lens Correction Filter, the image must be rescaled to approximately 4840x7252 (some 98.53%) so that it matches the results of the Camera Raw plugin (minus the missing pixels around all four sides, of course).
    Anyone else notice this (particularly in newer versions of Photoshop)? Is there a way to prevent this cropping? The amount of distortion on the lens (35mm) is minimal and, regardless of that, I would have expected Camera Raw and the Lens Correction filter to output identical images after distortion correction, since the lens profile is the same.

    To see if that can be replicated, we'd need to now the exact version of CS6 you're running (e.g. on Mac you should be on Photoshop CS6 13.0.6) and the exact version of your OS.

  • Is it possible to use automatic lens correction profiles in Camera RAW using Extendscript?

    I have developed Javascripts using Extendscript toolkit to help me process batches of files for creating time lapse videos, and
    I would like to take advantage of the automatic lens correction profiles available in Adobe Camera RAW (I am using Adobe Photoshop CS6 64-bit), but in the CameraRAWOpenOptions, there is no property describing the automatic lens correction profiles.  It seems there has got to be a way to automate the selection of the "Enable Lens Profile Corrections" box when opening camera RAW images.  I am using Canon lenses, and the Adobe lens correction profiles work great, so I'd like to use them.
    I am aware of the other way of doing this in Photoshop using File-->Automate-->Lens Correction, but this seems to work more slowly than using the lens corrections in Camera RAW.

    You don't need to bother...just set your Camera Raw "Defaults" to include Enable Lens Profile Corrections and check the Auto CA correction. Then go to the ACR flyout menu and select Save New Camera Raw Defaults...Note: if you have your ACR preferences set to have seperate defaults based on camera serial number and ISO, you'll need to save out seperate defaults for each camera and ISO you use.

  • Aperture vs Adobe Camera Raw

    So, lately I've been shooting in RAW and have finally found some time to process some of the images. I am a Mac user, so I have the option of using either Aperture, or Adobe Camera Raw (Lightroom). Can someone please explain to me the main difference between the two programs, in terms of their ability to retouch/edit RAW images. I've had experience with Adobe Camera Raw (through photoshop cs6) and believe it is an excellent piece of software, does Aperture provide the same kind and quality of tools. The reason I am asking is because while I need a program to help process the RAW files, I also want to organize them in a library where I can see my edits. I am currently using iPhoto and I like the way it works.
    So to summarize the question, is aperture as good at processing/editing RAW images as Adobe Camera Raw? If not, why, what are the differences?

    Much of the difference between the two has to do with the way brushes work (for local adjustments) and some features.
    Brushes:
    In ACR, the adjustment brush works as a multi-parameter brush where you brush in strokes and can adjust quite a few parameters after adding the brush stroke (e.g., exposure, highlights, shadows, sharpening, noise reduction, clarity, saturation, etc.). ACR adds a 'pin' for each new adjustment which can then be selected to change the parameters of that adjustment.
    In Aperture, you use what is called a 'brick' which is a panel dedicated to the type of adjustment (e.g., enhance, highlights & shadows, edge sharpen, noise reduction, etc.). In this case, you use each 'brick' (or panel) to change the brushed in parameters for that specific type of adjustment.
    In summary; you can add or change more parameters in ACR with one brushed adjustment than you can in Aperture, but both can add or change the same parameters (with the exception of exposure, which Aperture doesn't currently do as a local brushable adjustment).
    ACR has arguably better sharpening and noise reduction control. ACR also has a gradient tool and lens distortion correction which Aperture currently lacks.
    I do find that brush speed is about the same with a lot of adjustments added, with Aperture getting better marks overall.
    All that said, I would be surprised if Aperture didn't receive some of the tools it currently lacks in the future.
    As far as RAW decoding goes, Aperture relies on the OS X camera RAW compatibility feature to render RAW files, so you will already have a sense of what that default render is like with iPhoto and Preview. Aperture can alter those parameters either as a RAW fine tuning preset that you create or with the adjustment bricks.
    FWIW, I have been using Adobe ACR at work (on Windows) since it's inception; and while I like the results with some images with regards to highlights, shadows, sharpening and noise, I can get there faster with Aperture. I also don't agree with Adobe's new rental policy for the CC line, so won't be investing in their products anymore. I quite like the 'App Store' paradigm.

  • How do I change the transparency grid to gray in Camera Raw 8.7.1?

    I am using Scott Kelby's  The Adobe Photoshop CS6 Book for Digital Photographers. He has a tutorial on Lens Correction in Camera Raw where he uses vertical tilt to correct perspective on an image taken with a 10 mm lens (Chapter 3, page 69 if that matters to anyone). The correction is extreme and after correcting, the areas where the transparency grid would show are gray in his image. On my copy of Camera Raw 8.7.1, I get the familiar checkered transparency grid (I am using the same image supplied from the books web site.  He continues on with a Free Transform and Content-Aware correction to eliminate the "gray" area without explaining how the transparency section in his image got to be gray. Doing a selection on the transparency to complete the Content-Aware is not possible as described in his book. Is something I am missing with PS CC 2014? I have asked four other photographers using CS6 and CC. Two report they have the checkered grid and one has a gray area and yet another has a white area.   How can I get the gray area as described in the book?

    Great, I was going to suggest that right off the bat in my first post, but refrained from that so as not to be accused of being condescending. 
    I always get a gray grid for transparency in ACR, no matter what, never a solid-color gray or solid any-other color.
    To be honest, I can't fathom why you would care that you get the same result.
    Totally off topic:  I can't stand Kelby.  :-/

  • Missing Lensprofiles from SONY and ZEISS in Camera Raw

    A few months ago I switched from Canon to Sony and Carl Zeiss and ever since I am missing some lens profiles in Camera Raw.
    I'm a picture editor and of course miss this opportunity of pre-correcting the lens profiles in the RAW development. I can not create the profiles themselves, like I have already been advised to do by an adobe employee. Now I have been waiting for the latest update and I also changed to PS CC.
    Unfortunately, I still miss these camera profiles: SONY SAL-500F40G, SONY SAL-300F28G2, SONY SAL-100M28, 135F18Z Zeiss, Zeiss 85F14Z, 24F20Z Zeiss, Zeiss 1635Z. I hereby would like to respectfully ask for these profiles included in Camera Raw. My entire image processing stands and falls with the RAW development. If I have to make cuts in the beginning, all following workflow suffers.
    As a premium provider of image editing software, you should not only follow the mainstream (Canon and Nikon), but also the "niche supplier" (SONY and ZEISS).
    I would appreciate any information about that topic very much!
