Vim latex-suite opens blank firefox tab [SOLVED]

when i try to view a text doc using \lv xdvi shows it nicely, but a blank firefox tab is also opened up for some inexplicable reason.
anyone know what that reason might be and how i can stop this behavior?
Last edited by pradtf (2010-07-03 04:12:10)

no i don't and i have nothing like it in .vim or /usr/shared/vim
so i put it into .vimrc and the problem is gone!
thank you very much jt512!
i am puzzled though as to what would cause vim to go to firefox in the first place. i realize it is the default browser as defined in
.vim/browser_launcher.vim
but i don't see how that would be connected with tex.

  • Vim latex-suite F9 \cite completion in input files

    Hi,
is there any way to use vim latex-suite's \cite completion in other files than the main texfile? I'm using seperate files for each chapter, auto completion will only work in my main file.
    thanks

Hmm, not surprisingly, it was an unrelated stupid error on my part: the path to the file I was working on had a space in it.  Remove space from folder name, hello \cite completion.  Solved.

  • Can no longer open two Firefox tabs, have close using Task Bar/Processes. Some links won't activate on websites. As per support suggestion, have backed up profile, deleted existing profile, removed firefox and replaced thingsetc

Can no longer open two Firefox tabs at the same time. Will disappear from screen but won't close - have to go to Task Bar/ Processes to close it, some links won't activate on websites. As suggested in the support area I have gone through the process of backing up my profile, deleted existing profile, removed firefox from computer, reinstalled profile in fresh folder, reinstalled firefox 6. I have done this twice for no effect - may work as it used to for a while (30mins) then gets back to its old tricks.
    It is a bit irritating.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • When I try to copy text, Ctrl+c opens new blank Firefox tab instead... how can I fix this?

I would like to use Ctrl+C to copy text from web pages rather than open blank tabs.
Right-click > Copy still works to copy. Ctrl+T still works to open new tabs (with my selected homepage, as per the My Homepage plugin).

Further testing reveals: the problem is NOT Integrated Gmail.
All my other add-ons are ones I've known and used for a while:
    Adblock Plus 1.3.9
    Download Statusbar 0.9.8
    Java Console 6.0.18, 6.0.21, 6.0.22, 6.0.24, 6.0.26
    Java Quick Starter 1.0
    LastPass 1.74.0
    NoScript 2.1.2.1rc1
    PDF Download 3.0.0.2
except My Homepage 1.0, which is new to me.
Turned My Homepage 1.0 off, and the Ctrl+c, Ctrl+v problem is gone.

  • Vim latex-suite: I'm on another file after compiling

    Hi,
a little thing that bothers me when using latex in vim:
After using \ll to compile the file using latexmk vim opens the master document so I have to open the old file manually to keep working.
Any idea how to change this?

    Barghest wrote:
I already use vim-latexsuite and all its nice features like \cite completion and so on. I installed it (via AUR?) in March
    $ powerpill -Qs latexsuite
    local/vim-latexsuite 20100129-2 (vim-plugins)
I see, I didn't realize it was in AUR. I just installed the vimball directly into my .vim folder.  From glancing at latex-suite's compiler.vim, it looks like latex-suite expects all of its function definitions to be in the same place as your personal tex.vim config file (they're all relative to $VIMRUNTIME, it seems). If your tex.vim is in your .vim folder and the latex-suite files like compiler.vim are elsewhere (as they probably are, if they were installed by pacman), then maybe latex-suite is becoming confused and causing the error you mentioned? I'm obviously not much of a coder/vim internals person, and I don't know the precise layout of the files installed by the AUR version of latexsuite, so this is mostly speculation; maybe others who are more knowledgeable can weigh in. But you might try uninstalling your AUR latexsuite and downloading and installing the latexsuite vimball directly into your ~/.vim/ftplugin, and see if that solves the problem.

  • IE Opening blank white tabs when a link opens a new tab

Internet Explorer will open up and display the first page fine. It's anything that attempts to open a new tab that is the problem. I have two machines one running IE 9 the other IE 11, both Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit.
I thought maybe it was a user account problem, but both users can go to another machine and not have a problem. One of these PC's started having this problem immediately after reloading the PC after a hard drive crash. The image used has been installed on
well over 500 systems at this point with no other reports of this happening.
If I right click and choose open with a new window instead, nothing happens.
I've seen similar articles relating to KB2964358, KB2929437, KB2919355, or KB2964444, but that seems to be for IE just opening a blank white page initially. I did try these to no avail.
Another browser isn't an option. Many of the sites these users need to get to only work properly with IE, and more importantly every attempt is made by our organization to prevent end users from using other browsers.

    Hi,
Did you mean when you click a link, the Internet Explorer didn't open the link instead of blank tab and just two computers have this issue?
Have you tried to reset the Internet Explorer settings:
1.Close any Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
    2. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type
Internet Explorer, and then, in the list of results, click
    Internet Explorer.
3.Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
4.Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
5.Select the Delete personal settings check box if you would like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, and InPrivate Filtering data.
6.In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click
    Reset.
7.When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the settings, click Close, and then click
    OK.
    8.Close Internet Explorer.
Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.
If it doesn't resolve, reset the default program for test:
    1. Open Start Menu, search for Default Programs
    and hit Enter.
    2. This opens the Default Programs window. Click on Set Your Default Programs.
    3. In the resulting window (the Set Default Programs window), click on
Internet Explorer and then, on Choose Defaults For This Program.
    4. This will open up Set Program Associations window. Click against
Select All to select all types being displayed.
    5. Once you are done with selection, click on Save.
    6. You will be back on the Set Default Programs window.
    7. Click on OK to close the window.

  • Vim LaTeX-suite compile

I have the latex-suite in vim and I use it to compile.  However, by default it compiles to DVI.  I would like for it to compile to PDF by default instead.  As of right now, if I try setting it to PDF (for example, using :TTarget pdf), it does not carry over from session to session.  Is there a way to make it set on startup (mabye via the .vimrc)?
If not, how does one get the present directory of the file currently being editted?  For example, :!cd DIRECTORY ; pdflatex FILE.tex , works when typed in manually.  How about if one wanted to create a keybinding in .vimrc to yield this?
    Thanks,
    zeug.

Uhh, I'm never able to recall which directory gets overwritten on each vim update, sorry There was a thread about this once, but I can't seem to find it just now…
The manual explains the options very well, I think, but it still doesn't say where this stuff should belong. However, unless you intend to write your documents as root, I'd say just create the ~/.vim/ftplugin folder and put tex.vim in it.

  • 11.0.5 Update - PDF Opening Blank IE Tab

Life was swell before that Reader/Acrobat update.
We have a sharepoint site and pdf files would open with no issues from document libary..
Now when the user clicks the pdf file a blank new tab appears in the address bar is the correct URL of the PFD file. If you mouse click in the address bar and press enter the pdf will open in reader ( yes the addin is disabled)
This is also happening with people who have the most recent 10.1.8 Acrobat update
I have done every basic troubleshooting step known to and can't figure it out.  Why would IE open a new tag with the correct url to the pdf and the user has to press enter for it to open in Reader?
Why would this also affect our Acrobat users as well.  This all started with the ost recent updatesl
    Any advice would be appreciatedl

Try changing a setting like enabling Manually manage music and videos and sync, then you can drag and drop items to your iOS device. You can also change it back and see if the sync starts to work again.

  • "open in new tab" and MMB click lead to a new window suddenly

    Hi,
today my FF 4.0.1 is behaving strangely. When I normally use my middle mouse button over a link, it opens that link in a new tab. Now it opens the link in a new window. When I go via right click -> "open in new tab" it also opens a new window. When I choose "open in new window" it does the same thing.
Can somebody help, so I don't have to reinstall firefox with all addons and passwords?
    FYI: - I changed two values - browser.link.open_newwindow and browser.link.open_newwindow. restriction from 3/2 to 0 (didn't help)
    - the little "+"-button does open blank new tabs still

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Firefox on Ubuntu Linux won't open PFD files (opens blank tab)

Running Firefox in Linux (Ubuntu 13.04).
When I click on any file (or email attachment) that is in PDF format, Firefox opens a blank tab and will not display contents.
I saw a similar question for Apple PCs but it doesn't work on Linux and neither does the Windows fixes. This has only begun with the last udate to Firefox.
Unfortunately like most people, I did the dumb thing and update then went nuts loading add-ons so it could be an add-on and not just the update.
The same issue is occurring on thre PCs (AMDS and Intel) - one on Mint and the rest on Ubuntu

Problem solved - it was caused by an add-on called "PDF Download 3.0.0.2)
To fix - in Firefox :
Click on '''Tools''' command (top of screen)
    Select '''Extensions'''
click on "'''disable''' button beside '''PDF Download'''
    Close Firefox and restart it.
Clicking on any pdf file should open a new tab now and the document will appear there.

  • In the prior Firefox version when I opened a new tab there would be thumbnails on the blank page below tabs of web sites that I frequented- now the screen is just blank- is there a way to see the thumbnails below again?

In the prior version of Firefox before I was encouraged to download the newest version... when I would open a new tab: on the blank page below would appear thumbnail versions of web sites I had frequented which was awesome to return to sites without even going to bookmarks. Now when I open a new tab it is just a blank white screen beneath. Is there something I can do to make thumbnails appear again on the screen below when I open a new tab?

You can change this in Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter the desired value:
    ''(i) Page thumbnails (default)''
    about:newtab
    ''(ii) Blank tab''
    about:blank
    ''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page''
    about:home
    ''(iv) Any other page''
    full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
