Vinyl records to MacBook Pro?

I have a good turntable, a MacBook Pro and a bunch of vinyl records that I want to digitize. Could anyone please tell me what I need between the Turntable and the MacBook Pro?
I'm sure it's been covered here before and I'm sorry for repeating the question, but I couldn't find the answer buried in all the posts! I searched six ways to Sunday and didn't find what I need. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If your turntable doesn't have an inbuilt preamp, you need something that will take your turntable output, amp it and apply the RIAA eq curve. Then this output goes in to your Mac (you'll need some adapter cables) or your interface. Some interfaces already have an input for this (Inspire, for example) and so does the Mackie Big Knob.
Something cheap like this will do:

although there are more expensive ones out there.
Finally, check out ClickRepair. Great software for removing clicks and thumps.

  • Recording into MacBook Pro.

Recording into MacBook Pro. I currently record vinyl records from phonograph into 2008 MacBook Pro Yosemite OS using the audio input jack on the MacBook. The new MacBook Pro doesn’t have an audio input jack. How can I record from the phonograph into the MacBook? Can I use something like the Behringer Audio Interface into a USB port?

You will have to look for hardware and software to connect to a USB port.  (I am not familiar with Behringer)
    Ciao.

  • How can I upload DS2 recording to MACbook pro?

Olympus DS2 is not supported by Lion; how can I upload things I've recorded on DS2 player to my Macbook Pro?

In as much as the DSS Player software is only compatible with a Windows PC you need to either install Windows on your MBP via Boot Camp or use virtualization software like Parallels to install Windows.  But you knew that when you bought the DS2.

  • Line-In Recording on Macbook Pro

Okay, so I just recently purchased a new MBP, and occasionally I like to record acoustic guitar via cable to the laptops built-in input. For some reason whenever I record the input is very low and hardly audible unless I crank up the dial on my mic settings on the guitar itself, which doesn't produce a clear sound. This happens in both Logic and GarageBand, and I've made sure that the Line-In input volume in system pref. was set to max.
Before I got the new macbook pro I had the 1st Gen which recorded fine, does anybody know why the new ones do this?
    Thanks

No idea, they may have changed the input somehow.

  • Digital Video Recorder for MacBook Pro 10.4.9

    Hi-
I was hoping someone could suggest a lower end digital video recorder (under $500) that is compatible with the MacBook Pro. I bought a sony recorder before I bought the macbook and it wasnt compatible with imovie. Before I purchase another recorder I would love to hear feedback on a decent model and experiences people have had with different models.

Are you talking about a computer CD/DVD reader/writer or actual DVD recorder (an update of the old VHS recorders). If you are talking about a DVD recorder, as far as I know. NONE are directly compatable with the iApps because the content they record is mpg-2 encoded and would have to be converted to DV for use in the iApps.
What is it you are trying to do?

  • Voice recording with Macbook Pro

Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question but here goes:
Is there anyway to use the macbook pro to record a lecture? I saw in downloads there was something called" quick voice recorder "
Has anyone used this? How does it work? I see it says a microphone is required.
I have one meeting that I need to record and I can't afford to purchase a digital voice recorder device for a one time use.
    HelP? suggestions?? thanks a lot

Your MBP has a built-in microphone.
I believe QuickVoice is a demo license (meaning without paying the license fee, it may be lacking some functions, record only for a limited time, etc.) - try it and see.
There's freeware that works quite well: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

  • How can I do MultiTrack recording on MacBook Pro?

Hey guys, I just bought Logic Express 9 to record separate audio for my Canon T2i DSLR.
how can I do Muti-Track recording on my MacBook Pro out door?
Will the Behringer USB mixer allow me to do MultiTrack recording or any other mixer?
    Thanks in advance,
    CJ

The only thing I'll add is do not look past the current crop of USB interfaces. I just recorded 14 tracks at once to my macbook pro, a 4 year old model, with a new Tascam US-1641 USB interface. 100% perfect. I've had several MOTU, Lexicon, Roland and Presonus interfaces. All have been Firewire until I tried the Tascam USB. Works exactly the same as all my firewire models. Same latency, same stability, etc.
So please don't focus solely on firewire interfaces. There are some nice USB ones too. In fact, there is a new tascam US-800 model that can do 8 at a time, is very small and compact, buss powered (meaning no power supplies to plug in) and can be had for a little over $200.
Basically, any usb or firewire interface that has 4+ actual analog inputs (be careful, many low-input inferfaces actually have TWO analog inputs, and two digital...you probably need 4 analog inputs).

  • Static or vinyl decal for macbook pro

I am a designer using my MBP in public, so I want a static or vinyl cling w/my info to display when my MBP is open-free advertising. Anyone else used something like this, does it stick, stay on? A colleague suggested vinyl would do better than static, they are expensive and I want to get what works-any thoughts? I don't want to use a permanent decal, would rather hav

Vinyl would be the way to go, no doubt. You can get what you want cut exactly like you want it.
And you can always peel it off it you get tired off it, or have to update your info.
I make my own custom vinyl for my own MacBook and change it regularly without any problems at all, and it looks great.

No, use a direct box, the Klark Teknik DN100 specifically.

  • How do I transfer audiomemos on ipad to my macbook pro

I have been using audiomemo vs 3.1.7 on ipad.  trying to sync or transfer my audio records to macbook pro.  Tried in itunes but cannot find a way to transfer over.

I'm sorry did not work. When I attach my ipad to MacBook Pro-iTunes is open.
1st iPhoto pops up and does its loading. It recognizes my device on left col but there no tab to select music. This only shows my photos & some videos I made as I look around in iPhoto.
iTunes is open. So i select music (from a drop down)
No where is there a way to  check "include voice memos"
I looked all around still could not find that selection!
I even selected Apps from drop down scrolled down to bottom - nada.

  • MacBook Pro refuses to read OS X discs included with the system

    Hey there,
First post, go easy on me.
I got a MacBook Pro last Thursday. Performance has been great, and none of the problems present on other systems appear to be present on it.
After several days of use, I had experienced a number of errors where the screen greys out, and a window pops up telling you that you must restart the system, upon doing which an error report is fired off. This, along with a little AirPort problem (it says it connects to my network on startup, but I always have to wriggle airport on and off to get it to really connect), have convinced me to reinstall the OS in case one of the firmware updates hit a wrong bit or something.
So I put my install disk in for the first time. It sits in the drive, no spinning or noise at all, and then it gets spit out a minute later. Oddly enough, the disc from my iMac is read fine on the MacBook Pro (although I am informed at startup that I can't use that particular disc to install). For the record, the MacBook Pro disc works fine in the iMac.
So does anyone have any idea what's going on with any of my problems? I'm going to call support tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this very odd disc behaviour. Data CDs and DVDs are read fine by the MBP, it is literally just the OS X discs that cannot be read.
Any help, comments, or things I should mention to support are greatly, greatly appreciated. I hate thinking I paid nearly 4k for a lemon.

That thread fixed my AirPort problem.
Also, I remembered that I did use my MacBook Pro OS X disc to install X11, and the only thing of consequence that I did afterwards was installing the firmware update.
Is there any way to roll back the firmware update so I can see if that caused this problem. It's the only thing with system-wide repurcussions that I can recall performing on the system.
The Firmware Restoration CDs from Apple's site only work if your firmware updater crashed or was interrupted in the process of update. . .is there any other way I can restore my factory original firmware?
Thanks in advance. For the record, I have experienced no kernel panics in 3 days. I'm wondering if maybe they were being caused by software issues (I've had a few while seeing how Rosetta handles things on the MBP).

  • Can I watch a rented iTunes movie on my MacBook Pro on an airplane?

I will be flying tomorrow and was wondering if I can watch a rented iTunes movie on my MacBook Pro on the airplane. I have read if it is set in airplane mode that I can, but I want to be sure and was also wondering, if I can, do I have to watch it through a special app besides itunes. Any help or information would be great. Thanks!

    Airplane mode?  What's that?
For the record, my Macbook Pro has been on many flights for the past 5 years and not once have I heard the pilot announce that everyone put all computers on airplane mode?

  • Macbook Pro Audio out jack Stereo Phono's ok?

I'm using the Macbook Pro's built in output (3.5" Jack) due to a messy workaround involving the digital optical out of the same port.
I record the Macbook Pro (VST's and FX) as Audio to another PC Recorder which is using the Edirol UA-25 (which has optical too)
Fine, but the downside is that the Edirol will only let you record digitally with the "Digital In" button pressed in, and will only allow monitoring of said recorded signal with the Digital button out! This is obviously annoying, but also you can't monitor playback of the last track whilst recording the next!!
So to cut a long story short, is the single 3.5" audio out from a Macbook Pro ok to record into the Edirol (analog) with 2 x phonos into the L&R?
Sounds a bit primitive in theory, but sounds ok, and i suppose many synths etc get recorded this way via analog outs to ins?

Yes thats the UA-25 I have.
What I am doing is treating my Macbook Pro (Mac OSX) as one machine running Logic/Ableton, and another 19" monitor running Parallels (windows xp) for my audio editor and VST's
So what I am trying to do is record from one to the other
I put the UA-25 USB Soundcard on the Windows/Parallels side to record 'in', and use the Macbook Pro's output/on-board soundcard as an 'output'
As explained with Digital, you can't monitor whilst recording the next part (due to Digital switch) which you have to keep pressing on/off/on/off to monitor/record
The easiest way i think is to come out of the analog Macbook Pro out 3.5" and split into 2 x Phono L&R going into the analog of the UA-25
Seems to work well, but just wanted some thoughts on the quality?

  • Can MacBook Pro Retina be used to convert vinyl records to digital files?

Can MacBook Pro Retina be used to convert vinyl records to digital files?

As the retina model doesn't have a line-in port, you'll also need a USB input device.
Griffin's iMic is a Mac stalwart. However, they don't list Lion or ML in the compatibility list, so some further research may be necessary.
If that's OK, their Final Vinyl software is free.
There are other analogue-to-digital converters, though most if not all are more expensive, and the excellent (free) Audacity  software will also help with the import and any editing. It exports to a good selection of audio file types too.
