VIP configuration in RAC

Hi All,
Please can I know which IP address is allocated to VIP in RAC.
like for SCAN
The IP addresses must be on the same subnet as your default public network in the cluster.
Thanks

You can see the VIP names with the following command:
srvctl status vip -n node_name
Repeat for each node. This will tell you the VIP names. You can use nslookup to translate to the IP addresses if needed.
Cheers,
Brian

  • Vip configuration

    Hi,
While configuring vip network configuration using vipca, i am getting one window that is "Network Interfaces"
As i seen in so many cluster ware installations screen shorts there they got eth0 (public) and eth1 (private) in
"This page displays supported network interfaces found. Select the network interfaces from the list" window
My problem is i am getting only eth0 only. not getting eth1. anyway we will select only eth0 only, but if i proceed vip configuration is not successful.
Please help me in finding solution.
    Thank you very much.

Seems like that the private interface is not up. Did you verify that it's working on the o/s level?

  • RH Linux VIP configuration not working for Oracle 10g RAC installation

    Hi all,
I am trying to setup my test cluster on Oracle 10gR2 and Red Hat Linux 4. I have the public and private networks working fine and setup. However, after I setup the two VIP addresses, I cannot even ping these two virtual IPs from Linux. CRS install fails during initial run because it cannot communicate with the two VIP IP addresses. Can anyone help me out as to how to go about fixing the two VIPs so that Linux can ping them and CRS will install?
    Thanks

It sounds like you configured your VIP on Linux in advance, before installing Oracle.
You are not supposed to do that.
Decide on an IP that the VIP will use with your network manager, but don't configure it in Linux. So before you start the clusterware install, ifconfig should not show your VIP.
CRS does not need VIP when you install the clusterware, only the interconnect address.
VIP is configured using a utility called VIPCA. If Clusterware installation fails and you think it was caused by VIP issues, try running VIPCA manually and let us know what were the results.

  • Question about multiple listeners and vip addresses in rac.

We have a 2 node rac cluster running 10.2.0.3 on rhel4 on the itanium platform. We have a need where we want to connect the 2 hosts up to another network temporarily by configuring an additional network interface on each server so that we can test some connections from a different network.
My question is can you configure multiple listeners on the same server in which the newly added listener can be configured to service requets on the new network interface?
Because it's rac would you need to configure an additional vip address? I am not sure that you can have multiple vip's on a server?
Has anyone configured rac in such a way, any help is appreciated.

can you configure multiple listeners on the same server in which the newly added listener can be configured to service requets on the new network interface?Yes, you can but you should not be doing this. Listener is a node specific resource and one listener can server multiple services. You actually can create multiple services within the database for different set of users and all can be registered to the same listener.
Because it's rac would you need to configure an additional vip address? What do you mean by additional IP?
You have installed 10g RAC where you have already configured virtual IPs. Why do you want to have additional one? node1 - static ip1, vip1, pvtip1
    node2 - static ip2 vip2, pvtip2
    total 6
I am not sure that you can have multiple vip's on a server?Nothing to do with the server, they are based on public IP. Yes you can create multiples vip's based on same public IP. This is possible, But you do not need to do this in RAC environment.

At the end am presented with a review of the selected options and then the standby database is created
Has any body come across a similar issue?

    Any resolution on this?
I just created a Logical Standby database and I'm getting the same warning (WARNING: No credentials available for target ...) when I do a 'Verify Configuration' from the Data Guard page.

    Hi,
i check the Note:283684.1 you give me, but it didn't give all the answers to my problem.
I finally found a recipe to make the job. I would like to tell you it's not supported be Oracle, but it work very well
Don't forget to take a good backup of the ocrcfg and vote disk before you start.
    Here we go:
Stop all Oracle service on all nodes before the change of the address, the low format of the ocrcfg and vote disk
change the address in the file host in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc with the new address
change the ip address in the window network definition connection with the new address
    ocopy \\.\ocrcfg d:\backup\ocrcfg.dmp
    ocopy \\.\votedsk1 d:\backup\votedsk1.dmp
rem go to directory of the cluster binary crs\bin
    cd /D D:\Oracle\Ora10g\crs/bin
rem Format raw ocrcfg and vote disk
    LogPartFormat.exe \\.\ocrcfg /q
    LogPartFormat.exe \\.\votedsk1 /q
rem Run in prompt mode the cluster setup
    rem crssetup.exe config -nn %s_nodenumberlist% -pn %s_privatenamelist% -ch %ORA_CRS_HOME% -oh %s_OracleHome% -c %s_clustername% -l "%s_languageid%" -q %s_votedisklist% -g %s_usergroup%

rem ensures that all nodes are configured with the same port for the ONS
    racgons.exe add_config host_name_node_1:6200 host_name_node_2:6200
rem oifcfg to direct components to use specific network interfaces
    oifcfg.exe setif -global "Public"/10.200.5.0:public "Prive"/192.169.255.0:cluster_interconnect

  • More than 1 Priv IPs and 1 VIP in 10gr2 RAC installations

With 10gr2 clusterware, is it possible to add more than 1 Prv IP and VIP ?
If possible, what is the procedure to add?
    Thank you.

Is it possible what you really want to be looking for is NIC bonding / teamed NICs (or MPIP solaris).
This is where two ethernet adapters share an ip address
Take a look at the following post Re: teamed NICs for RAC interconnect for instance. (which refers to metalink Metalink note 298891.1 ).
Having said that I cant see a need for more than one priv IP, but multpile VIP's might jsut be wanted for eg DMZ. (I dont know the answer to that offahnd though).

  • VIP configuration problem

This is a 2-node installation on SUN solaris SPARC severs(M4000 and E6900).
installion of Oracle CRS(10.2.0.4) and db oracle_home on 2-node solaris 10 SPARC were completed succesfully.
Since the network interface cards on both the servers are different(the NIC name in M4000 is e1000g1,e1000g2 while in E6900 it is ce0,and ce1), we created symbolic links e1000g1,e1000g2 on e6900 server to point to ce1 and ce2. Im trying to configure vips on both the servers and im facing a weird problem.
Both the VIP's are being created in M4000 server instead of one on each server.
    ie:
    required config:
    node1-vip-192.168.1.191
    node2-vip 192.168.1.181
    but when i run
    srvctl modify nodeapps -n node1 -A 192.168.1.191/255.255.255.0/e1000g2
    srvctl modify nodeapps -n node2 -A 192.168.1.181/255.255.255.0/e1000g2
Both the VIPS are being created in node1.
the output of crs_stat -t is
    Name Type Target State Host
    ora....SM1.asm application OFFLINE OFFLINE
    ora....ST.lsnr application ONLINE ONLINE node1
    ora....est.gsd application ONLINE ONLINE node1

I don't think you can simply create a symlink for a device and expect that this will work. For example, ifconfig won't show the 'new' devicename. That's why clusterware fails to bring the VIP up on one host and then it will bring the vip online on the other node (expected behaviour).
One solution that I can think of is to create a new virtual interface on both nodes and assign the same name to both. You could use Solaris IPMP to create a new interface like this:
    on M4000:
    dladm create-aggr -d e1000g2 1on E6900:
dladm create-aggr -d ce1 1This will create a new interface called aggr1 on both machines so you should be able to define the VIPs like this:
    srvctl modify nodeapps -n node1 -A 192.168.1.191/255.255.255.0/aggr1
    srvctl modify nodeapps -n node2 -A 192.168.1.181/255.255.255.0/aggr1Bjoern

  • VIP in 11g RAC with CRS

    Hi all,
My system is a three nodes 11.1.0.7 RAC cluster with CRS (same version).
I have a question about how VIP works.
    Notes:
    eth0 - public interface
    eth0:1 - vip interface
    eth1: private interface
If I go down with eth0 (ifconfig eth0 down), VIP is relocated to other of the two remain network living nodes. Everything is OK at this moment and only listener resource in CRS stack is OFFLINE, even INST, GSD and ONS are ONLINE and remains in the first node.
Then I go up with the public interface (ifconfig eth0 up). Now everything still remains in the same state... Nothing Change!!!
    Questions:
    - Node1 VIP resource should go back to the first node???
    - Listener resource should go online again???
I can manually start listener resource or relocate vip to the node1 without a problem... but it should be done without manual word, isn't it????
    Thanks in advance.

    user605547 wrote:
I know that listener is nodeapps (vip) dependent... so if VIP is not running up, listener can't start
All my issue is about automatic VIP relocating after a network failure, so I'm trying to understad what happens and what it should happens.
    Scenario 1:
    Step 1:
NODE1: ifconfig eth0 down => so vip fails over node2 and listener on node1 also goes down. Any other resource in node1 remains ONLINE.
    Step 2:
NODE1: ifconfig eth0 up => nothing happens and everything remains in same state. NODE1 VIP is still running in node2
Question: NODE1 VIP should automatic relocate to node 1 (from node2)??????
11gR1, NODE1 VIP not automatic to node01, we still relocate manual.
This is actually the default default behavior in 10.2.0.4 and 11.1.
    Step 3:
NODE1: srvctl start listener -n node1 -l listener_node1 => node1 vip relocates to node 1 and listener_node1 goes upnot sure, perhaps srvctl check about public, then relocate VIP
    Scenario 2:
    Step 3:
NODE3: srvctl stop listener -n node3 -l listener_node3 (changing state of any resource not involved with node1) =>
=> listener in node3 goes down, node1_vip relocates from node2 to node1 and listener in node1 goes up
Is it normal??????? It looks like any operation in CRS forces to check NODE1_VIP availability and make it goes up in original node??? Expected behaviour???
When we use srvctl, instance check is performed, that check public ip -> resolved and then relocate VIP
    How about ?

Answering all these questions accurately and correctly for you implementation might be a bit much for a forum posting.
First I'd recommend accessing the Oracle documentation on otn.oracle.com. This should get you the basics about what is supported for the environment your looking to set up, and go a long way to answering your detailed questions.
Then I'd break this down into smaller sets of specific questions and try and get the RAC axters on the RAC forum to help out.
See: Community Discussion Forums » Grid Computing » Real Application Clusters
Finally Oracle Support via Metalink should be able to fill in any gaps int he documentation.
    Good luck on your project,
    Tony

  • 10g Grid Control Installation/configuration on RAC

    Hi Experts,
I am new to RAC and I need your help.
I need to configure 2 node RAC and install/configure Oracle 10g Grid control (High Availability) on HP-UX Itanium servers. Is there any good document or link?
    Thank You all in advance
    Bell

    Hi Bell,
Here is the link for the 10gR5 Grid Control Installation Guide: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/install.102/e10953/toc.htm
Considering the GC repository is a RAC database you will be performing the "+Using an Existing Database+" installation type.
I would highlight the below part of the documentation:
To view a list of certified Oracle Database, see Document ID 412431.1 on My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).
If you want to use a RAC database, which is configured on a virtual host, as the existing database, then refer to Document ID 561441.1 on My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).
    HTH,
    Regards,
    Jozsef

  • Multipathing configuration on RAC

    Hi All,
Our storage team has configured multipathing after installation of Oracle 11gR2 RAC.All the Disk groups are coming under multipathing except OCR.When we are executing oracleam querydisk ocr it is howing only the starting number and end number.Does anybody have any idea how to bring OCR also under multipathing as client is saying it should also shows i,e /dev/dm*.We are using RHEL

    Hi,
OCR is not showing the name of the disk of multipath, I have also told the same suggestion to clients but they are insisiting that when we exec below query, it should show the name of the device
    [root@tbmh2uoltp02 ~]# /usr/sbin/oracleasm querydisk -d ocr1
Disk "OCR1" is a valid ASM disk on device [65, 113]
    [root@tbmh2uoltp02 ~]# /usr/sbin/oracleasm querydisk -d ocr2
Disk "OCR2" is a valid ASM disk on device [65, 114]
    [root@tbmh2uoltp02 ~]# /usr/sbin/oracleasm querydisk -d ocr3
Disk "OCR3" is a valid ASM disk on device [65, 129]

  • VIP network of RAC are on Node 2 Only

    Hello,

192.168.216.45 is the VIP of Node 1, and 192.168.216.46 is the VIP of Node 2.
When the system starts up, both nodes have the eth0: 1 network. But after sometime, it seems to me that the "virtual network cards" (I do not know the right term), are being transferred between two nodes. And when that happens, either the listener of node 1, or the listener of node 2, or both are on "OFFLINE" status..
Our data import and loading activity are greatly affected by this issue, and we are now really far from schedule.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
unfortunately you did not mention which Oracle version this is.
It seems your public network check is failing, hence the VIP gets relocated to the other node (where it still seems to be o.k.).
Depending on the used version, the VIP will not fallback by itself.
Why does the public network check fail?
Again there are different mechanism used per Oracle DB version.
Normally it indicates a problem with a network card, but since this is happening on both nodes, I more likely suggest, that you have a problem with the gateway (that it is temporarily not reachable), resulting in the failure of the VIP.

Thanks. This is actually related to my post here: Listener Suddenly Stops (Oracle DB 10g R2 RAC on VMWare)
Please find time to read that, maybe you can see the details that you need and maybe from there you can suggest.
Thank you very much for the help. :)
