VIP email alert only works.......

I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1
I have set up the alerts in VIP but only get notifications when I check mail, Sending the email through other device.
But if I send an email through my phone itself and lock the phone the banner and ring tone I selected work and I get the notification.
I didn't have any use for it before, But would be great if it was actually functional. lol
Any help would be appreciated.

Only Apple Account Security could help at this point. You can try calling Apple Support in Canada - you'll have to find one of the several ways, such as Skype, to call an 800 number from outside of the relevant country - and ask for Account Security and see if they can help. Or you can find a friend who speaks Chinese and ask them to help you talk to Apple Support in China. There are really no other options that I know of.
Note, by the way, that these are user-to-user support forums. You aren't speaking with Apple when you post here.

Email alert only occurs when I open email

My first iphone. User-friendly, my a**! You call being forced to login 4 times with a password that is required to have a minimum of 489 characters (155 of which must be CAPS), 85 lower case, 141 numbers and 108 special characters??? I clicked at least 30 OK boxes to get to this forum and I'm too ****** to worry about the stupidity that my email alert only occurs when I open the damned email. Gee, thanks iphone, I'd never know I was opening the email I was opening if you didn't ring that bell!
What I'd really like is notification that an email has arrived without having to log into my phone and open the program!

As for exaggerating, both my iphone and my desktop require multiple logins after asking questions. 4 logins for my desktop to get to this page. Fine, it's not a minimum of 489 characters. I believe in complicated passwords, but not being forced to use one in specific format and then being asked 4 times in a row for full log in. Excuse the **** out of me if that happens to make me angry. It amazes me how the people who believe in Darwinian evolution are always fighting against the concept of "survival of the fittest."
I had also just done the same thing on my iphone, which was worse because of the limitations of the touch screen.

For each mail account, along with designating a primary SMTP server, you should be able to just turn off any and all other SMTP servers you have listed. In that case, if there is a problem with comcast, the message send should just fail.
Also make sure your comcast smtp settings are correct (port, likely 587 but might be something else for comcast, whether you should be suing SSL or not, do you need authentication or not).
You might find the comcast forums useful for getting the settings right - I found this:

The second poster notes, SSL should be on, authentication should be "password" and you should be using port 995

Alerts only working half the time, phone only rings half the time on incoming calls,settings all ok

my alerts for text messages, vip emails and voicemail are only sounding half the time and same with phone ringing on incoming calls...have checked settings, all are ok, have powered phone down and back up..any suggestions why i dont get alerts and phone ring all the time?

Tried to add a VIP email alert and now every email shows up on screen

A couple of days ago I tried adding a second email address from my friend as a VIP. Now, for some reason, every time I get an email from anyone from any account, it shows up with the badge and alert on my iPhone 5 screen. I do not want this. I tried going into the Mail notification settings and turning off everything but non-VIP emails still show up. Can someone help me? All I want to show up on my locked screen as alerts are three VIP email addresses.

If you are talking about app updates, these are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase the app, regardless of the ID on your phone in Settings>Store. The only way to stop the prompt for your older ID would be to delete these apps from your phone. The ID in Settings>Store is the one being used for current purchases, not updates of apps purchased using a different ID.

Team Foundation Server 2013 Email Alerts not working.

Email alert not working

I am not receiving an alert when a email is sent to me. My friend has a iPhone 4s and she does. We compared our settings and both our phones are set up the same. If there is something that we may have overlooked, please give me the directions to set the phone to get an alert for email.

I believe that you have to set up Gmail as an Exchange account in order to get push (immediate) notifications. Here's a link on how to do this: http://support.google.com/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740. Otherwise, your email is only being picked up every 15 minutes (via the fetch setting) so you won't hear an alert tone until you wait for this interval has passed, or you open the Mail app to manually get your email.

Email Alert Sound working only sometimes...

I just got my iPhone on Friday. I have the new mail alert switched to ON, but when the phone is in "sleep" mode, it doesn't make the sound, it just vibrates. I don't know if this is supposed to be normal, but I cant figure it out. All the other alerts seem to work fine. doesn't anyone know what is going on?

Kids email app only works in Admin acc

(Warning: Tediously long message alert! I'm sorry about the length of this post. It's only about an email program for a 6 yr old, but I've spent so long trying to get it to work that I'm determined to make it work now!)
iMac G3 DV400 - OS X 10.3.9 - 320MB RAM
I have downloaded & installed a child friendly mail application called Mail4Kids ( http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/email_chat/mail4kids.html ).
It's a good application but I can only get it to work correctly in my Admin account. (& obviously I don't want to give my 6 yr old an Admin account!)
The symptons are:
Admin acc - On start-up Mail4Kids downloads any mail waiting on the server and then deletes it from the server. (I have checked this 'before & after' using Safari to look at my daughters webmail). Replying & sending of mail works correctly.
My acc (Standard, No Limits) - On start-up Mail4Kids starts to download any mail waiting but only downloads the first message waiting. The download arrows continue to 'revolve'. Checking webmail via Safari show that the message has not been deleted from the server. The message can be read and replied to. Sending of mail works OK.
If I click on 'Check Mail' the first message is downloaded again. If i click a second time the first message is downloaded a third time and I immediately get an error dialog box that states: "An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down." Clicking the 'OK' button causes the application to shut down.
My daughter's acc (Simplified, Simple Finder) - Same as my account.
I have searched the net but found very little regarding Mail4Kids. I searched again using 'An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled'. Most of the hits (for other apps) seemed to point to a quicktime issue or locked files.
I opened Mail4Kids and Activity Monitor & did an 'Inspect' - 'Open Files' in the Admin account and my own account. The open files were the same in both cases. I have pasted them at the end of this message. Using terminal I checked the file permissions on each path. They were all rwx for owner (Admin) and r_x for group and others.
I then did a 'Sample' of the process in Activity Monitor. The results were significantly different for the Admin account and my own account. I better not post the results here as they are quite long.
Can anyone help?

Let me start by saying I've never even heard of Mail4Kid, but the above seems to indicate that the program needs to write some temporary files but can't since the program is owned by admin. Try changing the owner of all the files in the Mail4Kids application (it's really folder) to your username, (easily done via the command line with a 'chown -R' command) and then try to run it from your standard account. If that works try changing the ownership to your kids' username and then try running it from their limited account. HTH.

VIP email alerts/notifications

I have an iPhone 5, I have a VIP contact setup in my Mailboxes, however, my alert do not show up when a VIP contact emails me. I don't see the email in the VIP inbox unless I refresh my mail then it shows the number of emails and then finally the alert pops up after I have already opened up the email. That just defeats the purpose of notifications if it takes me having to refresh my mail just to see that I have VIP mail. Is there something that I set up wrong?

Now I have my gmail settings as: Notification Center: ON, Alert Style: None, Badge App Icon: ON, New Mail Sound:Ding, Show Preview: OFF and View in Lock Screen: ON. Now I don't have the GMAIL alerts set because even though the VIP is emailing me to my gmail I only want notifications when they email me not from every email I receive from others which is why I set the alerts on the VIP folder and not gmail. Not sure how the VIP folder is attached to the GMAIL. Hope this is making sense.

Email notification only working with mailto:

I've found that the mail notification is working, but the only way to get it working is to use the prefix 'mailto:' when specifying the email address to send the notification to.

I am experiencing the same issue. I logged a support incident with Apple; the tech I spoke to added an Exchange acocunt to his iPhone and had the same problem - no "push". He promised to get back to me tomorrow with hopefully a solution. I will keep you posted.

I am having trouble with my gmail account when I am not on my home network. The email function on the ipad3 keeps giving me a message that my username or password is incorrect, but this only happens when I am not on my home wifi. I think iit only happens when I am on a guest wifi in a hotel or restaurant etc..
Does anyone have any ideas?

I am baffled because all my other devices work as expected, except my iPad. More frustrated than baffled I guess...
