Virgin Media 50MB! fck slow in youtubE!!! Im desperate!! Help Please

Hi!,
This is driving me crazy. Ive got a 50mb speed broadband, that should be more than enough to use internet. The thing is that I dont know why, youtube videos load very very very very slow!!, a 3:00 minute video can take like 7 minutes to complete load!!! When I use myspace, spotify or other video social services is alright, just happens with youtube!! I'd like to upload my videos and hear music in another website, but guess what.. youtube is has the largest database!!! so I have to stick to that #@$@#$@#$@#$ site... Does anybody have the same problem???

standard videos.. Almost all videos upload at superb speed until 30seconds, then it just starts to load really slow... is really strange, Ive seen other websites and it seems to be a mac problem or something because Ive got a pc with windows crap vista and loads much faster than on a mac.

Netgear WNR2000 Router (Virgin Media 50Mb/s) & iMac

Hi,
have just upgraded to the Virgin Media 50Mb/s broadband service and have used the free router they provide - a rather fetching Netgear WNR2000 in shiny black garb.
I did not want to use the USB dongle that is provided with the router as my iMac is 802.11n enabled. I have checked to see that it is enabled as per the Apple knowledge base article.
I have set the router wireless speed at "up to 300Mbps" and it says it is using channels 2(p) + 6(s).
However, I can only get a 130Mbps connection at my iMac which is less than 20 feet away from the router with no walls or phones or other electrical equipment between.
Do I have to enable something on my iMac to get the faster connection speed to be made??
I prostrate myself at the feet of your greater wisdom and await enlightenment.....

I also use Virgin as my ISP and i was lead to believe (by Virgin themselves) that i wouldn't be able to use a wireless at all with them as i was running an intel imac...
I take it this has changed then ?

After Mavericks, applications tend to become slow, painfully slow. Particularly iMovie; all other applications, Mail, Browser (Chrome) and others too are either running slow or 'not responding'. Help, please

After upgrading to Mavericks, from Mountai Lion, all applications are slowing down. iMovie particularly is painfully slow. When iM is running, any other application that is opened up also runs slow or does not respond altogether. It was fine before Mavericks, can somebody help, please.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Mac suddenly started being slow, crashing, and glitchy? Help please

So I have an eary 2011 model Macbook Pro 13' with 4gb hardrive with a 2.3ghz i5
My mac used to work great, literally no problems, i only do simple stuff like microsoft word, youtube, browse the web, itunes and spotify etc.
Basically the other day i was ordering concert tickets from ticketmaster.com and suddenly my computer like just froze and nothing worked at all so i just held the power button down and let it reboot, then it got so glitchy
it was crashing, nothing was loading, every action i made required the rainbow spinning wheel thing. oh and for some reason the sound option no longer appeard it was like a faded gray, and no sound came from the computer. so i went to the app store and updated my software ( i was on mountain lion but i dont know which version)
since ive updated im on 10.8.4 and that fixed the sound problem, but my computer is still messed up or something
when i boot it up and have to enter in my password it just starts lagging and freezing, everything i do i get the rainbow spinning wheel, spotify fades in and out and constantly freezes as does itunes and safari crashes alot especially when im just trying to play a video. not to mention netflix doesnt play anymore (it keeps saying the plugin failed or something).
i thought it might be a virus but i scanned (with iAntivirus from the mac app store) and it said it was clean. Also my computer takes forever to connect to wifi, before this happened i could open up my computer and it would immediatly connect but now it takes like 3 minutes ( i know that sounds like a petty problem but its an issue when im a student and have to open up my computer and immediatly start working)
ive also checked my activity moniter but nothing shows up as draining the CPU. my ram says its realitivly free
i havent downloaded anything new, i havent dropped my computer or anything either
and just to be clear, my computer had no problems prior to this ticketmaster thing.

Aligning social media icons on a page (Was:Need Div help, please.)

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the social media icons on the right side in a row, side by side, no space between.
Can I use a div?
Problem is now is that depending on monitor/screen size, the spacing changes.
Again, I want to have them all together with no spacing, centered on the right at all times.

Yes, I took a look at the website. I saw that they were sliders.
It's hard for me to answer if putting an unordered list will hurt your code. The code that you have is not indented so it's extremely hard to read.
I would try putting the image in the <li> first. Make a backup of the page if you're nervous, and work on the backup. So your current content is live, and your backup can be toyed with until you have it right.
Also:
If using an unordered list scares you, there is an alternative which may work. I will use #twitter_right img as an example.
You are using absolute positioning. There is no reason to do this and I'm under the impression that absolute positioning should be avoided.
Your current CSS Rules for this are as follows:

     position:absolute;
     top: 45px;
Instead, it should be:
#twitter_right img {
     float:right;
     margin-top:45px;
Now, if you wanted to get fancy you could do this: (The CSS Identifiers are not accurate... just showing you an exmple)

     float:right;
     margin-bottom:45px; -- this is could also be padding. Set this value to the height of the image if you don't want spacing.
That way, when the slider moves out, the icon will move with it. Additionally, the spacing would be equal across the board.

EP - Very slow login... Help please

Hello.
We are having issues with our portals in the sense that it is taking users up to two minutes to login to our portal system. The long login times seem to only happen on our "dialog servers", and the central instance logs in fine and fast. We are suspecting a parameter maybe, or some tuning issue with the app server, however, cannot find anything to date. Furthermore, after the users login to the system (either DI or CI), the system runs fast, and performs well,,, it is just the login that is taking a considerable amount of time.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys:
After further investiagion on our part, here are a few other variables I have come accross:
1. The only the portal dialog instances (app servs) are slow.. the central instance is fast when loggin in.
2. This seems to only affect users logging in from the active directory. Users such as "administrator" login fast.
Either way, hope this extra bit of info helps.

i am using macbook pro retina for 1 year now but just a few days ago youtube stopped working suddenly and i thought it was because the site was down or something but i have checked that and found that it is not working just in my macbook
when i open youtube it shows a html format please help guys i have attached the photo ive reinstalled google chrome ,and also flash player with no respite

Go step by step by step and test.
1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
    Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
    Start up in Safe Mode.

2. Delete Caches.db
    Close all windows and quit all applications.
    Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
    Select "Library" from the dropdown.
    Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db
    Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash.
    Close windows and relaunch Safari.
3. Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
    Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
4. Delete Cookies
    Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
    Click “Remove All Website Data”.
5. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
    Turn on those one by one and test.

Media played with Quicktime doesn't play! Help please!!

I recently got a new iPod nano, and had to update my iTunes. Since I've done this, Quicktime hasn't been functioning properly. The sound (of a trailer, movie, etc) will play, but the media window doesn't play the picture; instead the window is just green. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, each without results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem 4x. They did a clean and install and an archive and install to no avail. Here is the solution. The genius bar went on to the discussion board and found the solution. Ready; go to hard drive then /Library/Internet Plug-ins/Quicktime Plugin.webplugin. Delete last Quicktime plugin.webplugin. Let me know . peace

Slow boot time after migration - Help please!??

Over the weekend, I migrated the data from my Mac to my new MacBook Pro. The pro is now very slow, 5+ minutes, to boot. I am running OS X 10.9.5, Boot ROM Version MBP112.0138.B07, SMC Version 2.19f12.
I had taken all the junk off my Mac before the migration, but now I have two users, both me, and need help getting rid of one and trouble shooting the slow boot issue. Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi you may have startup or login items that are slowing down the boot process. In system preferences./accounts/login items. You can uncheck them. Or if they are items you no longer use. I bookmarked a youtube video and it was the removed due to terms of use violation and now I can't remove the bookmark from my list because the video now goes to a broadcast yourself page. I know how to remove the active youtube bookmarks. Help please.

An alternative method is to right-click on the bookmark and choose delete.

hi, this is my first post on the forum and i'm basically after some advice as to whether i'm likely to improve my broadband speed?
I live in Suffolk, some distance away from the local exchange, although i know that other people in my village have a faster broadband service than i am currently getting.
I have tried various things over the last few months including phoning BT and having them do various tests and resets on my line assuring me of an improved service but to no avail?
I've also followed advice on this very forum and put in a shielded wall socket booster, a high speed dsl cable and exchanged my hub for the business hub.......
for the record, i only have one phone socket in my bungalow, so extension wiring isn't a problem.
i'll post the results of my hub status and speedtest results below and if someone could shed some light on these figure, i would be hugely appreciated.

E book bought from Waterstones is unreasonably slow in use can you help, please?
I purchased a copy of “The Complete English Poems” by John Donne as an e-book, I downloaded the e-book successfully, as well as the new Digital Editions software and transferred the e-book to my Sony Reader. However when I try to use the book it is slow opening up and very slow moving between sections, or navigating between the poem and the notes on the poems, typically between three and five minutes. In practice this means that if I wish to consult a note on a poem it can take five minutes to move from the poem to the note then another five minutes to navigate back, giving a time of ten minutes to consult a note. This is not really feasible.
I have had no problem downloading and reading other books, from Waterstones bought after the John Donne.
I have tried deleting and re-loading the John Donne, as well as resetting the reader to no avail.
I contacted Sony support who says that as my other e-books from Waterstones and other sources work perfectly, then the fault lies with “The Complete English Poems” and not the Sony reader.
Please note that I had a similar problem with a Waterstones edition of “the King James Version of The Holy Bible. “ This problem was never resolved.

Add or remove automatic items
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.

If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)

Slow Wifi Speeds Vs Virgin Media Wifi Speeds

Hi,
I have recently have my BT Infinity installed with a HomeHub 4 and although the service seems OK - it does not appear to be broadcasting as far as Virgin Media. I am lucky enough to have both services in the house due to the cross over period between Virgin disconnecting my broadband and BT activing their service.
Now, I fully appreciate that you will never get the advertised speeds when using Wifi etc due to signal degradation etc however my existing VM service is their 120MB package, the laptop which is running Windows 8 shows the speed as being approx 40MB when using speedtest.net and thinkbroadband etc. The BT HH4 is broadcasting at approx 20MB using the same laptop and speed test sites even though I am supposed to be on their 76MB service as the local DSLAM is 20 yards away from my front door.
what gives ?
clearly I am missing something however its very strange that the HH4 is not broadcast at the same wireless speed when my service is more than capable.
Is there an optimum way of configuring it?

The HomeHub routers are generally not all that good for wireless cover.
While the Virgin router is transmitting, that reduces the choice of channels for the HomeHub. So if the Virgin (or you manually) has chosen the best channel, the HomeHub is forced onto a second-best channel. You may find the HomeHub improves when the Virgin is off.
Install inSSIDer http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ on a laptop to choose best channel for the HomeHub, and also best positioning. Sometimes small changes to position make a big change to signal strength. HomeHub often seems to work better on a manually chosen good channel than with auto-channel.
If possible run the speedtest at http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ on a wired connection and after the test choose ‘Further Diagnostics’ and post the speeds and the profiles that this gives. That will give you a measure of how the boradband itself is running.
