Virtu MVP influence

I have never been a proponent to using the lucidlogix software, but whilst testing my Z77 machine that you can see in my signature, I decided to also test the Virtu MVP technology that comes with this board. I downloaded Unigine Heaven 3.0 as benchmark and then ran three different configuration tests to see what the impact would be. To be honest, I somehow believe that MVP may enhance the overall graphics performance, but what I see here, may point to something that is not optimised or the MVP was not coded or there may be a bug. I shall report this to their site as well. But in the meantime, maybe other users with Virtu MVP can run the same test to see if they experience similar results.
The first test was run with my GTX580 and Virtu MVP enabled.
The second run was with Virtu MVP disabled.
The last run was with Virtu MVP enabled but with Virtual Vsync disabled.  You will see the difference in scores. The intriguing part is that the results all show only my Intel HD3000 integrated as being the GPU
This is not meant to compare results, it is just to verify that your results also change by such large amounts.
Either Lucid needs more credit than they believe or their current algorithms did not cater for Virtu MVP.

  • Z77A-GD65 Quick Sync with Virtu MVP Issue

Hi everyone! My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but my searching didn't find anything conclusive. I'm a very happy convert from an EVGA P67 SLI board (ugh) to an MSI Z77A-GD65 (YAY!) So far, I absolutely love this board but I'm having an issue I hope someone can answer. I run a YouTube channel and render a lot of video using Sony Movie Studio Platinum. This product is supposed to support Intel's Quick Sync technology to greatly speed up processing times. Normally, you need to have a monitor running off the IGP for this to be available but Virtu MVP is supposed to get around this. I have a GTX770 as my main video card and a Core i7-2600K which is confirmed to support Quick Sync. However, I've had no luck getting Quick Sync to appear as available to Movie Studio Platinum. Here's what I've done:
    1. Enabled IGP in the BIOS (also tried making it the primary display adapter, didn't change anything.)
    2. Installed latest drivers for both Intel HD 3000 and my GTX770. Both are available to the system.
    3. Set Virtu MVP as D-Mode (either mode supposedly enables Quick Sync and D-Mode's obviously better for gaming.)
    4. Installed the Virtu MVP software and created a profile for Movie Studio Platinum. Tried it in both D-Mode and I-Mode through the software.
The short of it is that Movie Studio Platinum does not recognise Quick Sync as being available. It's just not selectable which means it can't detect it. I've also tried plugging my secondary monitor directly into the IGP. This isn't supposed to be necessary with Virtu MVP but I don't game on my second monitor so whatever. Still nothing. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do now. I've been told that most mainboards require you to enable Quick Sync specifically in the BIOS but I don't see that option. Is it just always enabled when the IGP is on this board or does it have to be toggled elsewhere?
If anyone has advice on this, I would really appreciate it. My purchase of this board wasn't contingent on Quick Sync but given the amount of video rendering I'm doing right now, having that acceleration would be a massive boon to me. This feels like I'm just missing something simple. Any advice people can offer? Thanks a ton everyone!

I actually did download the latest MVP from their site, is that what you're talking about or something else?
I'm pleased to report that my Quick Sync issue has been resolved and well, it was pretty much my fault. Turns out only certain rendering profiles in Movie Studio Platinum are able to use Quick Sync. Their documentation didn't make this clear but I stumbled over the solution and it's working like a charm. Thanks!

  • Z77 GD55 - Will run Virtu MVP?

    Hello, guys,
I'm looking to buy the MSI Z77 GD55 but the oficial lacking of support to the Virtu MVP technology is holiding me back, but, i saw in some foruns some guys with this motherboard running the Virtu MVP, so, it's really possible to run the Virtu MVP on this motherboard? I'm justing waiting for this confirmation to buy the Z77 GD55, if not, i'm thinking to get the BIOSTAR TZ77XE4

No mention of it on the website. Consider the -GD65.

  • Virtu MVP 2.0 errors

I have the Z87 Mpower and I use the Lucid Virtu MVP 2 software downloaded from the MSI website.
On some games I get an error that says:
"A required .dll file, EKC6420.dll, was not found."
I traced the problem to the Virtu MVP 2 software (I uninstalled it and my game works fine).  What gives?

I found a solution - just add a program to Lucid Virtu exceptions list.
open Virtu settings -> applications -> add... add your app exe file, press OK.
then open list again, select added app, clear checkbox "enable Virtu". Restart an app. Enjoy!

Dear Sir/Madam: Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support. Regarding your concern, we are very sorry. This old version can't support Virtu MVP. We will release the new version of Z77A-G45 MVP to support this function in the near future. The old mainboard need rework the BOM in factory if you want it to support. Sorry for any inconvenience. Best regards, MSI Technical Support Team!
    Reply from MSI support.
Be happy, Virtu is a headache problem creator, most compatibility issues and it really needs more versatility, maybe in 1 year if they still support the product it may be better i don't have much hope for it.

  • MSI Z87 Series - Lucid Virtu MVP 2.0 license ???

    Hello,
I'm trying to find out if any of the MSI Z87 boards come with a License for Virtu MVP 2.0 ?, (specifically the GD45 that i want)
And if so how long is the license valid for ? 1 year only like the retail version of the software ?
MSI seem to be about the only manufacturer who have anything regarding Virtu MVP 2.0 on their Z87 webpages so wondered if it was included as it would mean an instant sell for me !!

    Give that a try
    Thanks will do

I would be rather surprised if the license wasn't a non expiration. Even back to the Z68 G3's it did not expire. Hopefully the link Bernhard gave will net an answer.
That was the original "Virtu" versions I believe.
Then Z77 boards that were licensed all have unlimited access (like my current one) to "Virtu MVP" (Hyperformance and Virtual Vsync), but the problem is its not getting supported often anymore with updates because......
Lucid then released "Virtu MVP 2.0" recently, which is apparently retail only and requires a yearly $89.99 subscription. This software does get updated often.
This is why i'm keen to find out if these MSi boards have a license for it, as they are the only mobo manufacturer I can see explicitly carrying the "Virtu MVP 2.0" logos. The fact im going Z87 anyway, I want to get a board that has a license for the software, if one exists.

  • Games crashes with Virtu MVP software on Z77A-GD65-Gaming

    Hi,
I have set-up Virtu MVP with d-mode in the bios, installed Nvidia and Intel HD drivers but are having problems with games crashes.
With version 2.1.223 my issues are:
    - All Call of Duty games crash on start with VV & HF enabled
With version 2.1.224 my issues are:
    - Graphics corruption / artefacts with Crysis.exe
    - Virtu MVP control panel does not allow editing and removing of games, also 'H' column is missing with game selection
    - All Call of Duty games crash on start with VV & HF enabled
    I am using Windows 8 Pro, Core i7 3770K with MSI NGTX 670 PE/OC
Lucid web site says that I have to contact mainboatd manufacturing (i.e. MSI) for support - is that correct?
    Thanks

Lucid MVP has proved to be a disaster. With some games it seems to work and other not without considerable effort. My advise would be to disable the feature. If you wish to use gpu virtualization, you can try assigning Phys x to the cpu via the NVidia control panel.

  • Virtu MVP and why you should be using it!

    What is it?
    <<Lucid Virtu MVP>>
At Lucid, we believe there shouldn't be a tradeoff between performance and visual quality. We think that when you click the mouse it should interact with the screen at minimum lag or latancy. So we created the ultimate competitive weapon. Virtu MVP, designed over the winning Virtu Green GPU Virtualization software, makes your PC look better, respond faster, process video and media smoother, all within a low power environment.
Designed for next generation AMD processor based platforms, as well as Intel Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge platforms with notebooks, all in one PCs and desktop motherboards flavors.
Virtu MVP has 3 major components:
    1. GPU Virtualization
     - Enabling applications to use best of both worlds between discrete GPU and integrated one, with no limitation where your display is plugged in.
    2. Virtual Vsync
    - A cool technology that allows you to play with your standard in-game vsync turned on for smooth tear-free game play, but without the 60 FPS cap. Yes, you can.
    3. HyperFormance
    - A technology designed to further boost you game responsiveness by removing redundant rendering tasks in the pipeline resulting by higher response performance.
Overall Virtu MVP adds value to your platform and gaming experience :
•Connect your display either to the motherboard (i-mode) or to discrete GPU (d-mode), boosts gaming responsiveness up to 70%
•Increases standard in game Vsync from 60 FPS CAP - up to 120 FPS (and sometime more)
    •Sharpens visual quality without tearing
•Works seamlessly with hundreds of game stations
    How Virtual Vsync Works
In a virtual environment of two asymmetrical GPUs, we keep one GPU in sync and free the other GPU and CPU to run as fast is it wants. Frames are always shown tear free and in sync with display monitor while CPU and stronger GPU can produce images/frame as fast as they possibly can - so your frame is ready faster, and on time for next display refresh cycle.
    How Hyperformance Works
3D games put the greatest demands on both the CPU and GPU. And as the race for higher performance on the PC and now in notebooks never ends, both CPUs and GPUs keep getting more robust. Despite this, display refresh rates have remained fairly flat over the years, 60-75 Hz, except for 3D stereo displays at 120Hz. Lucid takes advantage of this disparity and eliminates redundant rendering tasks and predicts potential synchronization issues in the graphics delivery pipeline and intelligently removes and or replaces them for better game control.
    How to use it?
So long as you have a mother board that supports the use of Virtu MVP and a discrete card, beginning to use Virtu is easy!
1.) Enter bios and enable multi-moniter support, Virtu in D-mode and set the primary graphics controller to PEG.
2.) Install  Lucid MVP from your cd that came with your board or from the drivers page for your board at MSI.
    Updates: Lucid MVP downloads
    3.) Re-boot and your off!
Note: You must originally install Virtu / Virtu MVP from the MSI disk, then you are able to update or you will recieve an error about licensing.

Alright, so it is official, the z77-g45's now have Lucid MVP, as this is a software and hardward change, only new boards will be able to use this feature. (The licensing fee is also being added onto the new boards)
Hi, I know this is an old thread, but rather than start a whole new thread, I figure it is cleaner to revive this one.
I purchased a Z77A-G45 recently (2013-02) and just found out about Lucid MVP. I downloaded the installer from Softpedia, it was labeled for the Z77A-G45 Thunderbolt. It installed and even appears to be functioning, however, it is in trial mode.
Am I doing something wrong? If newer Z77A-G45s are licensed, can this not be retroactively applied to older ones? It apparently doesn't need special hardware, since it is running on my board. (Unless I do have the hardware, but Lucid MVP doesn't show up under my board's drivers on MSI's site.
For confirmation for those finding this post on Google looking to see if the Z77A-G45 is compatible (like I did), it does run, but is in trial mode. (BIOS v2.9)
Edit reason: accidently mistyped G45 as 645

  • Virtu mvp 2.0

I've been reading up on this & hv seen an old thread on it that has a few pages thus decided to start a new one.
Seems like reviews from users about this feature has been kinda impressive so I decided to give it a go.
I enabled it in my bios, downloaded & installed the driver from MSI site.
Problem here is, everytime i boot up, it will prompt that this device is not working & has been turned off.
So, I manually turn it on & its working.
    My question is:
    1) Is it really working
    2) Am I facing some kind of conflict here
    3) Is this feature really necessary?
    Appreciate some guidance on this.
    Tks in advance

Virtu is a marketing gimmick and a succesful one at that. It shows impressive results in benchmarks but makes near as null difference in the real world. It adds anomalies and causes screen synch problems. From a practical persepective, it's not worth the inflated cost of the board. At least that has been my experience. The company is coining a lot of dollars from each board that has the technology.
Still have to see a forum where actual users praise the technology after having used it. Real world comparative numbers. Problem is that users just accept that their graphics performance is better without having tested what its like without it
As far as I remember, there is an option in Virtu to enable it be default, else it will be disabled and has to manually enabled everytime you wish to apply it.
Hi Bernhard, I am also wondering y this is default at DISABLED in bios too. So just wanted to try it out.
Realised that there were some anomalies in a few vids that I played to try it out.
When I turned it off, it actually worked better.
Reckon ur right on this, guess I'll just disable it again.
    Tks again

  • Z77A-GD65 Lucid Virtu license

I activated the bundled copy of Virtu MVP with the V10.3 BIOS, and now that I've updated the BIOS to V10.5, Virtu MVP says the License Status is "Disabled License." Updating to the latest version from Lucid's site results in an Evaluation copy.

    Recommend to reflash to v10.3 and notify MSI Tech Support of this;

  • Z77A-GD65 + Lucid MVP

    Hi all,
    Specs 1st of all:
    Z77A-GD65
    3770k
    XFX HD6870
    16gb Samsung Green
    Win7 x64
That should be enough for the query, I have built my system and installed Catalyst 12.4 WHQL, the latest Intel VGA driver WHQL and the latest version of Virtu MVP from Lucid website, that operates in full mode using most recent BIOS for the mobo.
No matter what options I choose I cannot get the DGPU to do any work apart from the fan spinning down when windows loads!!
I have tried BIOS setting for i-mode, d-mode etc as mentioned in forums around here and around the WWW but I do not get any performance change over and above the IGPU and as I was using the HD6870 in my last setup so I know what kind of FPS I should achieve in F1 2011 etc (3DMark06 should not be running like it did in 06 on my old system) yet the Lucid software reports it as working which I know to be incorrect as the FPS is too low to be using my DGPU!!
My preferred choice to use the mobo's HDMI port and lose a few FPS caused by the DGPU passing the data through to IGPU to render (as shown in benchmarks/reviews of the previous Virtu tech on older mobo's and as shown on Lucid's website) as when using AMD HDMI it causes AV sync issues.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers, Bob.

    Hi,
I tried the version of MSI website 1st and that did not work like the new version from Lucid.
I connect via HDMI and have reinstalled since Virtu was activated, I have tried a few combinations of drivers from both Intel and AMD but still no dice in i-mode - I am on BIOS 10.5 latest as it needed updating for the license for the newer Virtu as mentioned in a few posts.
I can connect to my DGPU's HDMI port in d-mode and still use Intel QuickSync so it appears to work in d-mode but if I put it back in i-mode (tried to keep it in DGPU HDMI as a long shot and it displays an image etc but still runs at HD4000 speed) and plug into mobo HDMI it again loads up and show the logo for a few seconds (license is working I believe as it lets me add profiles and does not mention Trial Mode I just set it up to show to give confirmation it's active) but drops back to only HD4000 speeds (about 10fps in Ridge Racer Unbounded as opposed to over 60 in d-mode).
Something is obviously wrong here but I do not know what apart from the other difference in that your using Nvidia and I AMD.....
Pretty sick tbh as part of the reason for upgrading was this very feature!!
    Cheers, B.

  • No virtu support in msi z77a gd55: how to use quick sync then?

    Hello there,
Being unaware at purchase time, i wonder how can i use quick sync of intel when in d-mode with z77A GD55? I ask this because no lucid hydra/virtu from msi download page. I know the cd contains it but it is not offered to be installed since the board is not lucid signed. If i force install it, the software runs in trial mode which is because of no license from the board. Are the virtu and virtu mvp actually different program? If no virtu support so whats the deal with bios settings to control lucid virtu?
Please help, it is with this issue that i have lost confidence using msi board (based on the fact that overclocking sucks too since the latest bios 1.3 vdroop control is useless and no offset voltage). So if this can be solved, i have some positive point to at least retain the board as my own. Thanks.

Quick sync is not a replacement for Virtu. They are two different products.
Quick sync transcodes movies using the Intel IGPU.

Currently Intel’s Quick Sync transcode is only supported by two applications: Cyberlink’s Media Espresso 6 and Arcsoft’s Media Converter 7. Both of these applications are video to go applications targeted at users who want to take high resolution/high bitrate content and transcode it to more compact formats for use on smartphones, tablets, media streamers and gaming consoles. The intended market is not users who are attempting to make high quality archives of Blu-ray content. As a result, there’s no support for multi-channel audio; both applications are limited to 2-channel MP3 or AAC output. There’s also no support for transcoding to anything higher than the main profile of H.264.

With Virtu you end up with is a system that should run all 3D games on your discrete GPU, and run all video decoding and encoding on SNB's GPU. Since this isn't switchable graphics but rather a form of GPU virtualization you can actually run iGPU and dGPU applications at the same time (e.g. you can watch a movie in one window on the iGPU and play a game in another on the dGPU).

  • MSI NEW P.E. Series Video Card - GTX670 Power Edition 2GD5/OC with Twin Frozr 4

Glad to be back in the forum and I was been busy for awhile. By this time lots of PC hardware already came out especially from Nvidia. Just like today my share would be MSI's N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC video card.
First of all lets talk about the GTX670 GPU chip. This GPU is the younger sibling of GTX680 which uses the same 28nm GK104 chip but with one disabled shader cluster/core.The reference or standard GPU clock is 915Mhz with a turbo boost of 980 and as for the memory is concerned, it has a 256bit memory bus connected to a 2GB GDDR5 memory with speed of 6008Mhz. Just like with any Kepler based architecture, the card would also have all the goodies like "Adaptive V-Sync", "AA TXAA (Temporal Super Sampling)", supports "DX11.1" and improved 3D Vision Surround.
Moving on, let's check out now what MSI did with their GTX670 SKU based video card. The card is under a new Series named "Power Edition" (series comparison table below) and it comes factory overclocked from GPU clock of 915MHz to 1020MHz and Turbo boost of 980Mhz to 1080Mhz. It also comes with the 4th version of Twin Frozr Thermal Cooling design with a theme color of Black and Blue which matches the color of MSI's midrange to high-end motherboards as well. The dual 8cm PWM fan based cooler are equipped with Propeller Fan Blades which draws air better and now has the so called "Dust Removal Technology", basically as you startup your PC the fan will rotate counter clockwise for 30 seconds clearing the dust from the cooling heatsink. Adding a finishing touch, MSI equipped the video card with their Military Class III components ensuring the best performance, efficiency, higher overclocks and durability.

  • [Z77A-GD65] Intel Rapid Storage Technology 11.5.0.1207

    Hi,
I've been updating some drivers today on a new build (in sig. below) with W8RP following the recent release of new drivers.
    Updated drivers to latest for Chipset, VGA, Intel Management Engine, but when I get to RST I get the following error;
'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.'
I've rebooted after each driver update.
This also happened to me a few days ago on a previous OS install on this machine, but on that occasion the version on the supplied DVD with the MB was the same version number and worked fine, of course this is now out of date.
I have my SATA controller set to RAID and I see my drives in the RAID ROM prior to POST but as yet no RAID ARRAY set up, but last time I did this, that was done when following the prompts when starting RST the first time.
I'm trying to use my SSD to accelerate my HDD but not sure why I get the above error message :-s

    Hi xmad,
Thanks for that, somehow some confusion had crept into proceedings and I was trying to use the Rapid Start package which is now no surprise why it was complaining at me because I don't have that switched on in bios at the moment.
The link you supplied is right, I had that already but somehow had got it confused with the Rapid Start one.  It also has the floppy file set for supplying during OS install which is not separately highlighted on the downloads page like it is for the earlier version. Extracted and tested the setup file in the package you linked to 'intel_rst8_mb' which completes setup now.
I've taken my driver / utility load sequencing from Live Update 5 History Tab prior to me uninstalling it.

I had problems when trying to install USB3 driver (W7 x64) on prior install of W8RP because it complained at me for not having appropriate hardware so maybe it is already catered for in W8 but I don't have any USB3 devices to test and can't see any reference to USB3 in Device Manager.  I guess it depends whether W8 includes the Intel driver :s
Going to redo my OS install so I can satisfy myself that I've got a good clean install to make a drive image from.
