Virtual 3DS on ESXi

We're trying to get a new Sourcefire solution up and running.  We're using the virtual servers rather than physical installed onto an ESXi 5.1 host.
We're running the 3DS in passive mode so we have 3 network adapters configured, 1 for management, 1 for internal traffic and 1 for external traffic (2 separate physical switches handle each).
I've configured the two physical switches to mirror from port X to port Y and connected 2 physical network ports on the ESXi host to each port Y on the physical switch.
I've created two separate vSwitches with each physical network port confgured in each, so vmnic2 is on vSwitch External and vmnic3 is on vSwitch Internal.  vmnic2 is connected to Port Y on physical switch 1 and vmnic3 is connected to Port Y on physical switch2.
Each vSwitch and PortGroup has been configured to accept promiscuous accept MAC address changes and Accept Forged transmits.
With all this configured and from what I can find out this is how it needs to be configured, I'm not seeing any traffic on the 3DS.  The Defence Center is showing no traffic and no connections.
Has anyone got any suggestions on what I've missed or how this is supposed to be configured?

How do I check if I can sniff traffic?  I'm not seeing anything when I do a show itraffic-statistics on the 3DS.
update: I found out how to do a tcpdump from the command line of the 3DS and it's definitely receiving traffic from the mirrored switch port, so it must be a configuration issue, so passing onto the contractor doing that to fix.

  • Can CUCM 8.5 version be installed on a DL 380 G5 server in Virtual environment (Vmware Esxi 4.0 or 4.1)? Or does it have to be only installed in UCS boxes for VMware?

Can CUCM 8.5 version be installed on a DL 380 G5 server in Virtual environment (Vmware Esxi 4.0 or 4.1)? Or does it have to be only installed in UCS boxes for VMware?
    1. If the installation is possible for the Vmware instance on a DL 380 G5/G6 server , will that be supported by Cisco ?
Similary is the case with CUIC 8.5. Has anybody worked on these do suggest ideas.

Virtualized UC applications from Cisco are only supported on the UC on UCS platform using ESXi 4.0, 4.0 Update 1, or 4.1 - hypervisor support may vary based on application.

  • Aumentare spazio virtual disk su esxi 5.0

    Salve,
    Grazie mille

Good morning,A friend working in another hospital called me asking for help with his esxi server.
I'm running hyperv so i'm not very familiar. The problem is that he's got vms on the host machine and the host does not detect the secondary partition where these files are.The admin had pulled out a scsi card for his tape drive and moved it to another server. After this, the esxi server will not see the other partition.
Also, when make changes to the config, when we reboot the host, the changes are lost. The machine returns back to what it was before the changes were made. How can I recover from this situation? Can I use a boot cd or something to read the data from the partition that esxi can't see?Or second question, why doesn't esxi save the config changes we made after reboot.
His backups are not viable at this point.Any tools or hints to...

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 ESXi 5.5 support?

We are currently in a deployment of CPI 2.1 with a current ESXi 5.5 infrastructure.  I cannot find any related documentation on the compatibility of this support.  We also have ACS 5.5 to build on this as well.
Has anyone had any success building either of these two virtual appliances on ESXi 5.5?

    Thanks guys,
I have had a response from the BU.
Here’s the quick and dirty (and not so good) – PI 2.2 is being tested with ESXi v5.5 and will officially be supported.  According to the BU, there are no plans to test or support any earlier release with ESXi v5.5.
Also the current plan is to have ACS 5.6 be supported on ESXi v5.5.
ESXi 5.5 won’t be supported until PI 2.2, due out in November 2014.  Until then, there are no workarounds.  Some customers have installed the latest release (v2.1) on ESXi 5.5, but they run the risk of not getting supported should they encounter any issues with their instance.

  • Can I Manage virtual machines using SCCM? What about Amazon ec2 instances?

    Hi All,
As part of my lab environment, I would like to discover and manage virtual machines within ESXi platform and a few on Hyper-V. As part of this,
1] Do we need SC-VMM to create/discover/manage virtual machines or can this be done by using just SCCM 2012 module?
2] Does SCCM provide any connectors to public cloud services (ex: Amazon EC2 or Google Cloud services)? Can this be done using SCCM?
Any help on this would be appreciated. thanks

    Thanks Jason.
A few follow up questions just to make sure I understand you correctly:
a] Statement: I understand SCCM can manage OS within any VM (I just realized my set up has discovered 2 VM's running Win 2008 OS via AD discovery method). My confusion began after going thru SC-VMM docs. I assumed, once you have SC-VMM set up, it will discover/manage
either ESXi servers or Citrix or other vendor hypervisors and then discover VM's within the hypervisors. But as you said, SCCM can manage OS within any VM.
b] Q: my sccm set up is part of domain 'A' and its discovering systems/users as part of domain 'A'. Is there a way to discover systems as part of domain 'B'? When I look into 'discovery methods' -> Active directory system discovery -> Add a new container
-> path -> select a new container -> it selects only domain 'A'
As a result I'm not able to add a secondary domain for system discovery. IS this how its supposed to be? Discovery runs only within one domain? (or) am I missing something here?
c] When you said 'Yes, I do think (I'm not familiar with all things VMM though) that there is a connector to EC2', did you mean a connector from SCCM or a connector from VMM component?
thanks again for all the help.

  • Bandwidth Maximums on UCS virtual NICs

I'm creating some virtual NICs for ESXi hosts.
What is the maximum bandwidth per virtual NIC?
If I have 4 virtual NICs on a virtual switch in ESXi, what is the maximum bandwidth for the total of the 4 virtual NICs?

    Hi
The total bandwidth doesn't depend on the number of vnics it depends on the blade model, adapter(s), and the type of IOM that you have installed (see link below) .

  • Mac Office 2011 Calendar Events Moving on Exchange 2010

    Hello,
I manage a domain environment that is fairly small. It has Server 2008, Outlook Exchange 2010, consisting of two domain controllers and a hand full of other Server2008 servers. All of these are virtualized on VMware ESXi and running off of a SAN as well.
So that should give you a little idea of our configuration. The key issue that has been driving many people insane and I can't seem to find a resolution to is that Mac user's are having their Exchange calendar entries move. PC users are not having this happen.
I have instructed the users to be very careful about appropriate time zones when creating the events, permissions to not let anyone else edit them. This is still occurring and I can't seem to find an answer online as to why. All of the VM's clocks are good.
The end user clocks are set accordingly and I even began setting them static to where we are located. We have tried dissassociating the user's with this issue from their iPhone's thinking that maybe the phone was editing it some how through iCloud syncing
etc. None of this has worked. Any other ideas or solutions would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Windows Update not working

I have a couple of servers on Standard 2012R2 (a Domain Controller & File Server) virtualized on VMWare ESXi 5.1.  Server Manager tells me that they have never checked or updated (although they show 40 updates applied).  Set to download updates
and notify for installation.  I've manually triggered to check for updates.  The "Windows Update" window sits there with the 'Checking for updates.." and the progress bar scrolls by ad infinitum.  I've let it run all night and
still nothing.  All my other VM installations are updating fine.  I've spent a month building this new domain for the new company being created and so not in full production yet, but I still don't want to re-create the servers.
Anyone else have this issue and fix it?

    Hi,
How did you configure your DNS? Is it able to resolve external name?
I suppose the name cannot be resolved, so it stuck when initiate an update. Since DNS is usually for internal name resolution, and for external we need configure DNS forwarder,
    mostly your ISP DNS server.
In addition, you can check windowsupdate.log which records WU agent behavior.

  • Oracle 10g direct path write too slow

    Hi All,
We have Oracle 10g on a Solaris virtual server, VMWare ESXi being the host. Data files are on RAID1, internal storage on a HP DL585 with VMFS partition at ESXi level. Problem is that DB writes for a CREATE TABLE as SELECT... statement is way too slow. To create a table which is 0.5 GB, DB takes 9 minutes which amounts to 1 MB/s. When we check for FTP or file copy at Solaris level with same size file (0.5 GB), it flies through in less than a minute. This is Oracle 10.2.0.4, 8K data block, 2 vCPU assigned to the Solaris VM. Have checked with VMWare support for any known issues and also have SR open with Oracle for any param changes that can help speed up things. Any clues or pointers from you all will be of great help.
    Thanks,
    Nikhil

  • OES11 SP2 - Linux File System and NSS Pools & Volumes

Planning to install our first OES11 SP2 server into an existing tree - the
idea is to run this new OES11 server virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.5
The existing tree has two physical NW6.5SP8 servers running eDirectory
Version 8.7.3.10b (NDS Version 10554.64). One of the existing Netware
servers is used for DHCP/DNS, File Sharing from three NSS volumes and
Groupwise 7.0.4 whilst the second server is used for FTP services and
eDirectory redundancy. Ultimately the plan is to have two virtualized OES11
SP2 server with one for file sharing and the other for making the move from
GW7 to GW2012. And we're planning to stick with NSS for file sharing on the
    new OES11 SP2 server.
I've come across a couple of posts for earlier versions of OES which
recommended not to put the Linux Native OS File System and NSS storage
pools/volumes on the same hard drive. Apparently the advice was a result of
needing to allow EVMS to manage the drive which could be problemmatic.
I've read the OES11 documentation which says that "The Enterprise Volume
Management System (EVMS) has been deprecated in SLES 11, and is also
deprecated in OES 11. Novell Linux Volume Manager (NLVM) replaces EVMS for
managing NetWare partitions under Novell Storage Services (NSS) pools."
So I'm wondering if there is still a compelling requirement to keep the
Linux Native File System and NSS pools/volumes on separate hard drives or
can they both now safely co-exist on the same drive without causing
headaches or gotchas for the future?
    Neil

    Hi Willem,
Many thanks for the further reply.
So we can just use the VMWare setup to "split" the one physical drive into
two virtual drives (one for the OS and the second for the pools).
And I've seen posts in other forums about the need for a decent battery
backed cache module for the P410i controller so I'll make sure we get one
    (probably 512Mb module + battery).
Can I ask what is the advantage of configuring each VM's virtual disk to run
on it's own virtual SCSI adapter (by setting disk1 to scsi 0:0, disk2 to
    scsi 1:0, and so on)?
    Cheers,
    Neil

  • AWE with SQL Server 2012

Good day.  Here is my story.
I am a noobie.   Please be gentle.  :-)
RAMMap says that AWE is chewing up most of the memory.
The machine is a virtual computer (free ESXi) with Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012.
The VM has 16GB RAM total with 10GB allocated to the SQL Server.
Minimum server memory is set to 0MB, maximum server memory is set to 5120MB.
Locked Pages in Memory is not defined in the Local Policy (or in the Domain GPO if that matters).
There is also an install of Symantec Backup Exec on this computer which uses SQL Server 2005.  All services to do with Backup Exec and its associated SQL server instance are disabled.  However, if I start this SQL server instance and look, AWE
    is not checked.
If I reboot the SQL Server AWE shows just over 500MB usage but over the next 24 hours this will grow to over 4GB.
I have Googled for several hours but have not found a solution.
    Thanks for your time, folks,
    David Chapman

    Hi,
    >>RAMMap says that AWE is chewing up most of the memory.
I do not use RAMMap or task manager to look at memory consumed by SQL Server.AWE has no significance in 64 bit.Its helpful in 32 bit allowing SQL Server to access memory beyond its VAS limit.RAMap is windows tool to monitor windows memory allocation not
SQL Server.Below query will give you memory used by SQL Server
    >>Minimum server memory is set to 0MB, maximum server memory is set to 5120MB.
You can put minimum memory to 512 MB and SQL server memory to 6 G or 6.5 G.I guess 3-3.5 is enough for OS.Unless you have calculated it specifically.
    Please post output of below
    select
    (physical_memory_in_use_kb/1024)Memory_usedby_Sqlserver_MB,
    (locked_page_allocations_kb/1024 )Locked_pages_used_Sqlserver_MB,
    (total_virtual_address_space_kb/1024 )Total_VAS_in_MB,
    process_physical_memory_low,
    process_virtual_memory_low
    from sys. dm_os_process_memory
PS: SQL Server consuming memory is normal Behavior doont be alarmed by it.
