Virtual Appliance for Solaris 10

I am planning to be running Solaris on windows with help of VMware player. Could anyone please guide me to the exact and recent download link for the disk image of preinstall solaris 10 virtual appliance.
Since this would be my first hands on VMware and initial setup guide will be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

  • Error when installing virtual appliance for r12.2.4

    Hello
I have downloaded Oracle Virtual Appliance for Oracle  E-Business r12.2.4 in a following step by step manner but I am running into an error.  As per the readme, I have gone through the Note:1928303.1 but it does not address the issue.
That said, is there any comprehensive, step by step document that outlines installation and implementation of Oracle Virtual Appliance for r12.2.4?
    Below are steps I ran.
Step 1:  Downloaded and Installed Oracle Virtual Box version 4.3.22.
Step 2:  I want to install Oracle EBS r12.2.4 single node installation on My Windows 8.1 64 bit laptop with 1 TB of HDD and 8GB RAM.
Step 3:  Downloaded following files for single node vision appliance.
There are two zip files for each part, so I downloaded total 16 zip files.
    V52470-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 1 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52471-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 2 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52472-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 3 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52473-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 4 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52474-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 5 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52475-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 6 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52476-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 7 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52477-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 8 of 8) Linux x86-64
    Step 4:  Unzipped these files
Step 5:  After unzip, unzipped filename looked like following.  So I removed the last digit in the extension so that Oracle virtual box can recognize .ova extension.
    Unzipped file name:
    Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL.ova.01
    renamed to
    01_Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL.ova
Step 6. In Oracle virtual box, attempted to import these ova files using "Import Appliance".   This is when I am getting following error.
Oracle VM Virtual Appliances for Oracle E-Business Suite (Linux)
Failed to import appliance C:\ova\EBS\INSTALLATION OPTIONS\Option 1 Single Node ALL\0_Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL.ova.

VMDK: Compressed image is corrupted 'C:\Users\ova\Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_ZIP_CORRUPTED).

    Component: Appliance
    Interface: IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}
This is happening with each and every file in above list.
Please advise what am I missing?  And if there is a comprehensive document somewhere that outlines details about implementation.  The above mentioned metalink note is not enough.

You need to merge all of the downloaded files first, before importing into Virtualbox. Google for my blog for detailed steps.

  • Is there an associated Linux GUI Desktop available with the VM Virtual Appliances for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.4 64 bit or is it all command line?

I have downloaded the 16 pieces of Oracle VM Virtual Appliances for Oracle E-Business Suite (12.2.4) for x86 64 bit V52470-01 Parts 1 & 2 thru V52477-01 Parts 1 & 2 and unzipped and created the .ova.
I then imported that into VBox 4.3.22.
I went thru and changed the passwords for root, oracle, and applmgr as requested and entered a static IP.
I have not configured the DB or Applications yet.
However, I want to know if there is a typical GUI Desktop that can be brought up.
    Thank you.

I have not been able to find a GUI desktop - I believe it is disabled or not included in the media.

  • Monitoring Oracle Virtual Machine for Solaris servers and LDOMs

    Hi all,
could anyone tell me if we can monitor Oracle Virtual Machine for Solaris servers and LDOMs with only Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c, or shall we need to install Ops Center ?
    Thank you in advance.

I had the same issue. Upgrading Virtual box from 4.1.16 to 4.1.20 solved the problem.

  • Virtual Appliance for FirePOWER appliance

    Hello folks,
I've got some questions re: FirePower appliance. We have mixed up environment from ASA 5505/5520/5540 to ASA 5525X models. We know we can get a software module on X model and start using FirePOWER - PoC completed.
    Here's the concern:
    - Can we use FirePOWER standalone appliance to integrate with traditional ASA firewalls?
    - Is there ANY virtualization options because we do not want to buy hardware
Your answer would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    G1

You can put the Cisco-branded legacy Sourcefire hardware appliances in line with your older (or newer) ASAs that don't have FirePOWER modules.
You can similarly route your traffic through a virtual sensor if your VMware ESXi (or Xen or RHEV) hosts can be configured to sit in the proper place in your network. Here is a link to the data sheet (still in the old Sourcefire salesforce.com location).

  • Solaris 10 virtual machine for VMware

I've tried the "Solaris 10 OS, AMD x64 Platform - Solaris Enterprise System Virtual Machine for VMware (Solaris 10 11/06) 3.0". I've d/l the virtual appliance for vmware one can find from there : http://developers.sun.com/solaris/downloads/solaris_apps/index.jsp#vmware
    I encountered 2 problems :
The first was the network (netcard) wasn't recognised at all. It's strange because the settings should be the same for every vmware virtual machines. It may be because I'm running the latest version from vmware (10.0.2). The default option was NAT, and I tried the others as well. All other systems I'm using with vmware are working correctly, including the opensolaris "Nexenta".
The second one was with the screen resolution, it was excessively huge, around 2800 x 2000. I couldn't change it in the gnome desktop (the option had no effect). I managed to change it by altering the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. The same was for the keyboard settings, I couldn't switch to azerty (french) keyboard. I had to change it in xorg.conf file.

im new to vmware too, but just wan to share my experience with you.
5.5.1 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - my NIC still define as pcn0, encountered packet drop network issue
    - dtlogin doesn't work properly with my screen resulation, mouse work fine without pressing ctrl+alt key to get out from vmware
6.0 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - no more packet drop issue, especially when i ssh from pc to vmware.
    - gdm fit to screen, GUI work fine.
    - my shared folder working now, mount as /hgfs.

  • Oracle VM Virtual Appliances

    Hi all,
Oracle VM Virtual Appliances for Oracle E-Business Suite Deployment Guide, Release 12.2.4 (Doc ID 1928303.1)
    The docs said that:
But when I login to root on my VM system, and run :

    Oracle Linux Server release 6.6
Does this mean the doc is not updated? or the /etc/oracle-release is not updated?
    Please help how to check.
    Thanks a lot,

    Hi,
I know that this is an old discussion and you probably figured out the answer yourself.
Just to publish an answer and close it, the document is not up to date with the software you downloaded.
    Nothing to worry about.

  • NAC Appliance for Wirelles In-Band Virtual Gateway

    Hi, People.
Does anybody know as configuring NAC Appliance for Wirelles In-Band Virtual Gateway.
    Tks.

    Hi Wemerson,
Basic Wireless or Wired InBand is basically the same thing regarding the NAC configuration.
Please follow the chalk-talks available online: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps5707/ps8418/ps6128/prod_presentation0900aecd80549168.html.
    Notes:
    - In Inband all traffic MUST flow through the CAS, which means that al the traffic on the VLAN of the wireless client MUST flow through the CAS. This can be done via L2 mechanisms (VLAN restrictions) or L3 (routing).
    - For the CAS, it is transparent if the client traffic comes from a wireless client or wired client.
    - If you want to use wireless sso, you can configure the WLC the same way as a VPN concentrator. the Wlc will then send RADIUS Accounting information to the CAS and the CAS can allow clients to access resouces if they have already been authenticated by the WLC.

    Tiago

  • Can ISE 1.2 Virtual Appliance assign VPN address pool like ACS does?

    Dear friends,
I have observed that Cisco ISE Virtual Appliance (VMware) can act as a RADIUS server in the same manner as ACS does, but I cannot find the way of assigning an IP address to a remote VPN client (only assigning a VLAN).
At this point I don't know if it is strictly necessary to have the IP address assignment for the remote VPN clients done in the external firewall (i. e. Cisco ASA) in this case.
Is there any way of defining an IP address pool in the ISE itself for VPN clients authenticated against that ISE?
If the answer is not, which ones could be the options for that assignment other than the ASA pool assignment? Could it be possible defining the corresponding address pool in an internal DHCP server that could provide the IP address to the VPN client after successful authentication through ISE?
Any help would be really appreciated to clarifying these questions.
    Thank you and best regards.

  • Reconfigure reboot for Solaris 10 u5 x86 guest in VirtualBox

    Hello,
I just installed the new kernal patch into a Solaris 10 u5 x86 32-bit guest OS in VirtualBox 2.0.4 on a WinXP 32-bit host. I need to do a reconfigure reboot. I can't seem to get to the ok prompt from which to use boot -r. init 0 does not work, it only offers a "push any key to reboot."
What is the optimal way to initiate a reconfigure reboot for Solaris 10 in my setup?
I tried the grub-based technique in which, upon reboot, I get the grub menu and push "e." That gets me to another grub screen with 3 entries. I selected the kernal entry, pushed "c" to add "-r" to the end of the line, and then "b" to reboot. Is that the best way to reconfigure reboot for Sol 10 x86.
The above method did configure devices on reboot, but I'm not sure that is the best way to boot -r
    Thank you in advance...

x86 machines (including virtual machines) do not have an OBP or an 'ok' prompt.
You have to manipulate the GRUB either through interactive commands like you've shown, or by editing the menu.lst file to change boot parameters.
Of course for reconfiguration, you also have the option of touching '/reconfigure' and doing a normal reboot.

  • Oracle 9,2.0 32 bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB?

I am sorry to ask rather stupid question.
I joined company which has big SUN Fire running Solaris 9 64bit version.
It has system memory 16GB and 8 CPUs.
I found 8GB memory reported as free. It is production box. It is heavy loaded.
I guess Kernel parameter settings for Oracle set too low.
I reported DBA and asked DBA to improve.
My DBA said Oracle 32 bit version was installed and Oracle 32bit can't access more than 4GB system memory.
Is it true that Oracle 9.2.0 32bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB memory?
32bit CPU and 32bit OS might have problem in access big memory.
But I never heard Oracle 9 running on 64bit Solaris box can not access more than 4GB.
Specially on Sparc 64bit chip and Solaris 9 64bit version.
I searched forums and could not find good answer. I believe it is rather obvious.
Please help me on this. I will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I was really surprised by the fact that almighty
ORACLE can not access 4GB memory.
So, it is true that 32bit Oracle is limited by 4GB RAM.Nope. 32bit almighty anything is limited to (max) 2^32 virtual adresses on a vmm system.
Often there is also some split where memory is divided into system and user areas, where user (program) has e.g. 2 or 3GB. All this works regardless of amount of RAM available 0.5 or 512GB.
Perhaps this link provides some useful info/background.

  • Cannot create guest virtual machine with Solaris 10 SPARC in Oracle VM 2.2

    Dear All,
I try many times to create guest virtual machine with Solaris 10 SPARC but not get success.
When I created it already and then I start the Power On button, it run normally but the Console button cannot click on (hide). After that the virtual machine running abit then it change status to Powered Off.
Please kindly give advice for this.
    Thanks and regards,
    Heng

I storgly doubt, VMware player is available for Solaris 10 SPARC version.
Solaris 10 is not a comercial product, like ubuntu, windows, MAC etc... It's really for a server.
That's the reason still I hate Solaris 11 as a desktop. You have very limited product/software.... This may change for Solaris 11, but U can't expect one for Solaris 10.

I have a solaris server with 16gb of RAM that will subsequently be zoned into three zones to support three separate database instances, one for each zone. Given that physically there is only 16Gb of ram, It is my understanding and experience that I should have 1.5-2 * 4Gb should be at least 6Gb of SWAP per Local Zone.
Please advise. ThanksI'd look at it like this .....
Your Phyiscal Memory will be used somewhat as follows:-
    - Lets say 1GB for the OS ...
    - 1.5GB for zfs arc cahce if your useing ZFS.
    - The sum of your PGAs and SGA's should fit within the remainder of ram.
    - And your may want a little more to be sure and for other things; monitroting software agents, em etc.
In order that you can use more virtual memoy than you have physical memory for your will porably want to add a swap file, and for a 16GB machine this would probably be 4 / 8 or perhaps up to 16GB depending if would will occasionally have higher virutal memory demands or if poeple but big files in /tmp. In general swap -s can be used to monitor a shortage, though it can foolled if zfs_arc_cache is not limited.
The situation for zones not different unless you are using zone.max-swap and the physical capped memory.
If you have zone with a physical capped memory of 5GB, and a zone.max-swap of 8GB with is af the zone has a swapfile of 3GB; and you have to make sure:
    - The global zone is able to give that amount of memory to the non-global zone.
    - The global zone can provider the zone.max.swap from its virutal memory.
    - That the sga+pga and /tmp usage and other will fit in zone.max-swap ... use swap -s in the zone to monitor.
