Virtual Console reprints user input

When I log into the virtual console, my input is reprinted to the screen (including passwords, etc...).
i.e.
hostname login: name
>>name
password: password << actually shows characters being entered
$: command
>> command
they lines with >>'s are whatever I type being echoed back to the screen.
I don't really know where to look for the problem, so any help would be appreciated.
The problem doesn't occur when I am running a terminal emulator inside my DE, but just on the virtual consoles.

I have exactly the same problem on my laptop, but it doesn't happen all the time and usually just on tty1. Annoying when you forget about it and try to enter your password while somebody is watching you...

  • Read the value of user input variable during calculation of virtual char

    Hello
Virtual characteristics is populated in custom BAPI based on values specified by user in the variable screen.
How to read the value of user input variable outside the user exit for custom variables?
The one way is to create faked user exit variable, read the value of user input variable in corresponding FM and insert it into table. Then value of this variable will be derived from the table.
    Thanks

Before is ok, can't remember when this problem show up.
Don't know where to go, please give me a hint.
You have to give us a hint.
    What is your processor?
    How much RAM have you?
What is your video card/ship set?
    What kernel are you running?
I spotted this in your dump:
[drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-2: switching from hotplug detection to polling
In this case, drm means Direct Rendering Management and has to do with your Video subsystem.  An interrupt is where the hardware sends a signal to the processor that something has happened that requires the urgent attention of the processor.  The kernel is protesting that the hardware is barraging it with interrupt requests.

  • No dead keys in Xorg, strange dead keys in virtual consoles

Without touching my configs I'm having issues with the dead keys on my german keyboard:
In applications under Xorg they are simply inactive (as if choosing a nodeadkeys-layout). In virtual consoles there is no character displayed when I double-tap a dead key (e.g. '~'), but it is indeed displayed if I press some other key afterwards. Strange thing here is that it is not combined with the second one like in the deadkeys-layout (e.g. à for pressing ` and then 'a').
I do my Xorg layout via /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/25-evdev.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Logitech Illuminated Keyboard"
    MatchProduct "Logitech Illuminated Keyboard"
    Driver "evdev"
    Option "XkbLayout" "de"
    Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    EndSection
According to /var/log/Xorg.0.log the layout seems to be set correctly:
[ 39.725] (**) evdev: Logitech Logitech Illuminated Keyboard: Device: "/dev/input/event2"
    [ 39.725] (--) evdev: Logitech Logitech Illuminated Keyboard: Vendor 0x46d Product 0xc318
[ 39.725] (--) evdev: Logitech Logitech Illuminated Keyboard: Found keys

[ 39.725] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Logitech Logitech Illuminated Keyboard" (type: KEYBOARD, id 10)
    [ 39.725] (**) Option "xkb_rules" "evdev"
    [ 39.725] (**) Option "xkb_model" "evdev"
    [ 39.725] (**) Option "xkb_layout" "de"
    [ 39.725] (**) Option "xkb_options" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    I'm using an up-to-date pure-systemd install.
Any suggestions how to trace down the issue?
    Thanks in advance,

I’ve the same behavior as you in virtual console, and I really don’t know why.
For Xorg, check your .XCompose (recently I’ve a problem with a line only recognized by Xorg months later after I add it) or the Compose file of your locale in
    /usr/share/X11/locale/$your_locale.UTF-8/Compose
However it seems en_US.UTF-8/Compose is used for many western languages (at least that seems to be the case for french).

  • [solved] How to revert Automatic login to virtual console?

Long, long time ago (maybe 3 years back), I set up automatic login for my user. Now, I am trying to revert it so that the console asks me for username (unless it is avoidable) and password upon login.
So I though "Easy! I'll just go here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/au … al_console and delete the file mentioned there:
    /etc/systemd/system/[email protected]/autologin.conf
But the file is not present on my system. Instead, I have this:
    /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/getty\@tty1.service

Perhaps "grep autologin -R /etc /usr/lib" would point you to something.
    -edit-
Maybe grep for "getty", as apparently "-a" is equivalent to "--autologin".
    -edit-
Okay. Remove "-a" in the file you pasted.
    -edit-
You could also remove the symlink and the file it points to and create there a symlink to the file coming with systemd, as your file differs somewhat from what I have.
    ls -l /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/[email protected]
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 38 Jun 21 2012 /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/[email protected] -> /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]

  • Add User Input in Email Notification Template

Hi all, I'm new to SM and in need of anyone's assistance. I've created a service request and in the template under User Input, I have it requesting the "New Users Name" and the "Start or Termination Date". I'd like to add these 2
inputs into my Email Notification Template. How can this be done? I've been able to insert the Title, Requestor, Alternative Number, and Description in the Template Design but can't seem to find where I can add these Inputs. Any help would be
    appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Web User Input Form - in terms for DQ & DI

    Hi All,
Thanks a lot for your excellent contribution on these topics.
    I have one question
Is there a web user input form available for Business SMEs or User to input their rules/metadata which will get converted to equivalent code snippets into DI or DQ components automatically.
If so, apart from Data Services Management console and Metadata reporting console, what are the other web services available to cater to this, kindly give us more insight on to this please.
    Regards
    Chandra

Look at the top of this forum. There is a header that describes what this forum is for:
This forum is dedicated to all other development-related questions which are not directly addressed by other forums. This includes Business Objects SDKs, products, or technologies which do not fall under BusinessObjects Enterprise, BusinessObjects Edge, Crystal Reports Server, or Crystal Reports (for example Desktop Intelligence SDK, Universe Designer SDK, Portal Integration Kits, Java User Function Libraries, and other third party technologies or development languages).
Does any of the above relate to your query? If not, you're in the wrong forum and you'll have to find a corect forum to post to.

  • Virtual Consoles

    Greetings!
    I'm running Solaris 10 x86 version.
How can I set up "virtual consoles"? This is a standalone machine and i really need this feature. On Linux, I could change my console by using simply Alt+F2 (or F3, or F4...) but I can't do it on Solaris.
Maybe is for some security reason (in case someone forgots a login on a virtual console) but this is a must to me. Is there a way to "enable it"? Thanks!

Well... Botting from CD means that I must do a hard
reset at the machine. I don't thik that UFS is that
tolerant, but I have no experience on that.Metadata is written synchroneously on Solaris, so nothing
    should be lost here.
S10 has UFS logging enabled as the default, so on a reboot it
won't have to run fsck, either.
File contents could be lost, but that is limited to data changed in
the last 30 seconds before the reset.
Of cause reseting a machine is not recommended. But when
the machine is dead otherwise you don't have any other options
to recover from that state, anyway.
The sugestion of stopping X is a good one although I
don't know what happens exactly to the user logged
in. Is he kicked? If he is that's bad.Running X11 applications should detect a failure on their
connection to the X11 server and should terminate, too.
The user would be completely kicked out of the running
X11 session. But at least you don't have to reset the
standalone machine to get back control over it.
If this is an issue, you could run the X11 session against an
Xvnc server, and use a vncviewer client to display the vnc
session on your local desktop. The vncviewer can disconnect /
reconnect to the X11 session without terminating the vnc session.
That should survive a forced X11 server shutdown with
    Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

    Hi,
FMIS 4.5 does not accept plain text password. Encrypt=false is no longer supported. See here for more information : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/configadmin/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926 bcf-7fed.html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926bcf-7e91
The value for SERVER.ADMIN_PASSWORD needs to be the encrypted string for your password. That should solve your problem.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Customize virtual consoles

Hey, I've been reading up on how to setup my virtual consoles with /etc/inittab. I've got a couple switched over to mingetty so that they now automatically login which is great. I'd like to take it a step further and have various virtual consoles run a command on login. What I want to happen is that when I boot my machine tty1 is automatically logged in and presenting me with a command prompt while tty2 has also logged in and connected over ssh to my server and presenting the server's command prompt. I already have ssh setup with rsa keys so all inittab has to run is 'ssh [email protected]'
    e.g.
    TTY1 would show [user@local ~]$
    and TTY2 would show [user@server ~]$
without having to type a single key
    Anyone have a suggestion?
    Patrick

I can tell you that no, virtual consoles are not supposed to disappear.
I use nvidia-settings and configure a multi-head too, but when I switch to a console, only my external secondary screen gets into power-saving mode. The main screen (my laptop's screen since I'm on a laptop) turns off for a second, then turn back on with the requested virtual console.
I think there might be something to set somewhere to power-on the screen, or maybe the sleep signal sent to the second screen also reaches the main one for some reason. I can't really help further than recommanding you to play with DPMS on/off settings and other settings like that to see if you can manually get it to turn on again. You can also try various versions of nvidia and X (or try nouveau) and find out where the bug sits.

  • [SOLVED] Virtual Consoles are blank

All my virtual consoles are blank except for VC1 which is showing boot messages.
I have GDM set to start as a daemon and vc7 works for X just fine.  vc2-6 just show a blinking cursor with no login prompt.
I have clueless of what the issue could be.  I have not disabled any VC's in /etc/inittab

  • Linux Virtual consoles -- default8x16.psfu

    Hello!
Has anybody accomplished to convert the default font for virtual consoles (default8x16.psfu) to pcf or ttf format? If so, I'd appreciate some tips about how to do so, or better yet, a download link to the converted font . There are some scripts and apps out there, but none of them really did the trick for me.
Most of you probably use 'dina' or 'terminus' for your terminals, but I really like the default font that comes with the kbd package and I reckon to be age-old. To my surprise, a readily available version for X was nowhere to be found. I know that the old default font for Konsole was very similar to the default8x16, and I use it currently in my XTerm, but XTerm screws up the rendering of bold charachters. I've tried to disable boldModes and whatnot in my .Xdefaults but to no avail. So, if somebody can alternatively help me with that, I'd appreciate it too.

  • How to get exact user input in inverse expert routine?

    Hi
I have created an inverse expert routine on a virtual provider with DTP for transformation from an infocube. The virtual provider is part of a Multiprovider. I have a query which fetches data from the virtual cube.
I have the hierarchy enabled for the Iobj 0cust_sales in the query and the user inputs the values during execution of the query. Is there a way by which i can get the exact input given by the user in the selection screen in the inverse expert routine?
I also have some variables on nav attribs of some fields these restrictions are not avaible in the dimensions list. Is there a method by which i can get these variable entries as well in the inverse expert routine?
