Virtual hostname already assigned to another system on the network

Sorry for the cross-post... I just want to make sure I get this in the right forum:
I am having trouble getting past the cluster configuration setup in Clusterware 10.2.0.1.0 on SLES9 -i386.
The following error explains it all:
The virtual hostname(s), dl560-3-vip,dl560-4-vip, you have specified appears to be already assigned to another system on the network. Please ensure that the virtual hostname(s) that you use for each of the nodes in the cluster are not in use currently.
Now if I remove the vip's from my /etc/hosts file, I can proceed to the next step... but I have to re-add them in order for it to resolve and continue.
Thanks in advanced for your help.

you shouldn't be able to ping those addresses .... ?Is that a question or a statement... :-) I'm not really sure.

I have removed a successfully installed Grid Infrastructure Software. Now I was again installing it but the Installer is complaining about "[INS-40912] Virtual host name assigned to another system on the network", which it was not complaining about in the first installation process. :/
EDIT: I have checked and the two cluster-nodes are interpingable through their virtual IP's.
I see that the previous installation has created an own interface for that virtual IP:

Hi,
Your public IP address is correct. But your VIP should be on the same subnet like your public IP address.
eg :
public IP address : 192.168.0.1 ( where 1 is the ip address of node 1 which exists in the network and all nodes in this network can communicate with this IP. If you do a ping test to this IP address, it should ping)
VIP : 192.168.0.2 (where 2 is the vip of node 1 which does not exists in the network and its used for communicating only between cluster nodes. If you do a ping test to this VIP before installing the clusterware, it should not ping)
Additional info:
Private IP address: 192.168.1.1( for private IP address, the subnet should be different , but IP address should be same like in public IP address
Do the same configuration for all nodes, you will be able to install the clusterware.

Clipboard issue- Automatically copying content past into another system across the network.

I am facing issue related clipboard in all windows platform in our organization. Say example: Person A copying something from any application or browser in his system and when he is going to past into another apps(word file or text file) in the same system,
its pasting some other text content, which is copied in another system, which is using by person B. Again Person B when is going to copy and paste something in his system, pasting content is from person C's system. It is happening in all system in our organization.
It is very terrific problem, which is seen first time in my life. It is happening intermittently in all system.
Our organization is mainly R&D and software development company, Developers using windows clipboard in local system, but not
in another system thru n etwork or LAN. I have installed updated windows patch, Forefront antivirus in all system and also run scan. Not found any virus. We are continuously trying to identify the issue. Yet we did not get any solution.
We are enterprise customer of Microsoft and we using many enterprise solution of Microsoft. I hope any one can help me on the same.

Hi Nirupam,
This is weird. Please disconnect the network from these computer to check if they work fine.
This is also might be caused by some third-party software conflict. In such situation, I would suggest you perform a clean boot in Windows clients to rule out the cause of third party programs.

Extension is already assigned to another user on a dial plan.

I am unable to UM enable a user with a specific extension. I get the error that the extension is already assinged to another user. I cannot locate the number in the directory.
I have exported with Get-UMMailbox.. the extension is not in the export.
ldap query for msRTCSIP-Line gives no results.
ldap query for Telephone Number no results.
Lync ctrl panel search does not return any results.
Any advice is appreciated.

I figured out my issue. This may be similar for others.
Scenario: I attempted to UM enable a Lync user that I assigned an "available" number. When I UM enabled I was presented with an error stating that the extension was already assigned to a user in the dial plan.
I did custom ldap searches for msRTCSIP-Line=tel:+1xxxxxx1234 - No results with this search.
I searched via the Lync ctrl panel filters for this number. - No results returned.
I attempted the proxyaddress=smtp: search via custom ldap search in ADUC. - No results.
What happened was a user was assigned Enterprise voice andded to a dial plan, then was moved over to the Aura system. WHen this happened the number was given back to the pool, the user was set as PC>PC only. This user did not have UM disabled
when removed from Lync Enterprise voice.
I was able to locate the user using the following commmands. I found the user disabled UM, then was able to provision the new user without issue.
The command to do so is as follolws: (plus bonus commands for your enjoyment)
get-ummailbox | ForEach { If($_.Extensions -eq 4322){$.DisplayName}}
get-ummailbox | where { $_.Extensions -eq "45873" }
Get-UMDialplan -Identity "DefaultDialPlan" | Format-List

Either use the Apple ID you used when you originally purchased the applications or you will have to purchase them using your Apple ID. If you did not have the other Apple ID, then you have the applications illegally or they were improperly included with a computer you purchased from someone else.

Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

Protection Error - This application cannot continue because another application with an identical serial number is already running on another computer on your network

I attempted to open Final Cut Express this morning and got the message, "Protection Error - This application cannot continue because another application with an identical serial number is already running on another computer on your network".
I have no other FCE on any computers...this is the only mac running (iMac 2008 model). I used a preference manager app and deleted preferences...didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled FCE...didn't work.
This is the first time I have used FCE since installing the Yosemite OS, so I'm thinking perhaps that has something to do with it.
Any ideas?

There have been recent posts appearing about your problem. I'm not sure if anyone has found a solution.
FCE was abandoned by Apple years ago, and they are currently making Operating Systems without regard to how it impacts FCE.

That is what I would try - a fresh install - but your need to use FCS remover (from the same software source as Preference Manager) to make sure you get all traces of your existing installation off the drive prior to doing the installation:

If you use FCS Remover, and reinstall the other problem may be that Apple has apparently removed the Software Upgrade to FCE 4.0.3.
So unless you have a 4.0.3 install disk, or you hadn't upgraded past the version number of the install disk you do have, you legacy projects may be tagged as being created with a later version than you have and not open.

Hi,
make sure you really don't see the index in KM anymore.
If this is the case you could try to delete the index with the TREX Admin Tool on the TREX host. Maybe first just have a look, if on the TREX side the index is still there. This would mean, that in KM the index was deleted but not on TREX.
But you should be sure what you do, when using the admin tool!
Maybe you should also test, if this was just a temporary problem, or if it occurs always when you delete an index.
Deleting an index should work fine from KM and using the admin tool should only be needed for this in rare cases.

Logic already running on another computer on your network, won't open.

I'm trying to open Logic Pro on MacBook Pro and I get this: This application cannot continue because another application with an identical serial number is already running on another computer on your network.
I do have Logic installed on my iMac also but it's not running. Oddly, Logic will open on the iMac w/o the problem. anone got the answer? Thanks!

On a related note, if you have a lot of family devices that use your router and don't care about tracking one of them down, you can fix it easily.
1. Just click on the Apple Logo () in the top left of your screen and choose "System Preferences"
2. Click "Network" from the System Preferences window.
3. Click "Advanced..." from the bottom right.
4. Click "Renew DHCP Lease" form the "TCP/IP" pane on the window that drops down (it should already be on that pane).
5. Click "Ok" at the bottom, then "Apply" at the bottom.
That should ask the router for a new DHCP connection, which will prompt it to give you a new IP address that is not already in use.
If that fails to work for some reason, you might need some more advanced steps, or you might just track down the other device and restart it.

It means that another device on your network (wireless or Ethernet) has the same IP address as your computer.
An IP address is A Internet Protocol address, a numerical label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participating in a computer networkthat uses the Internet Protocol for communication.
If this happens you would need to change your the IP address of the device, you can check what device by going to your router admin web page. Details depends on what router you own.
You can check your PowerBooks IP address by going to system preferences and network. If you connect by Airport check the IP address of the Airport card, else check the IP address of the Ethernet if that's how you connect to the Internet.

Recently the domain controllers have been migrated from Windows Server 2003 to Server 2008 R2.
Since this account requires extremely strict environment, we need to figure the solution for restricting the users from access anything locally.

Can we disable Network Tab on the left hand pane ?
explorer.exe is blocked already, but users are able to enter the Windows Explorer by clicking on the name which is visible on the Start Menu.

You cannot block explorer.exe when you do not replace the shell - the
desktop you see effectively IS explorer.exe...

That may be what is a fairly common problem of 2 devices mistakenly assigned the same address. Try shutting off all of the devices connected to your router, reboot the router and then the devices connected to it.
