Virtual infoproviders

Hi,
While loading data into a virtual infoprovider it is not allowing me to create a datatransfer process.It is showing me as Source does not support direct access.
I am loading data into a virtual infoprovider through a Data source IN BW 7.0.
Please Explain me the whole scenario of how to do data loading in virtual infoprovider.If possibe wih screenshots.
Please help me out with a solution.

hi Jini,
Virtual Infoproviders are those which wont hold data physically in it. Only gets data in runtime. i.e while reporting and Listcube etc..Thats y u can not create a DTP for a Virtual Infoprovider.

there is no term like virtual datasource in BI 7.0.
yes, if there are virtual infoproviders in BI 7.0.
and the data source which feeds to these virtual infoproviders are termed as Direct Access Enables Datasource.
all most all Generic data source are Direct access enabled.

Using ERP ECC 6.0 as BI

Can we use our ERP ECC .6.0 as my BI server for Reporting needs of the ERP?

Nothing much - you just have to have access to the tcodes like RSA1 etc... this is usually set by BASIS.
2.What are the constraints of Using OLTP as OLAP?
You are using the same DB for OLTP as well as OLAP - the database config remains the same across the systems. There might be issues with regard to DB configuration and performance / locking etc.
3.What is the Lanscape recommmed for best practices of BI Functionality?
Use the same as ECC

IP - yes ...
Open Hub - sould be possible
RDS - since the DB is the same - use real time data reporting using virtual infoproviders instead of RDA....
One more thing is that you can look at doing more real time reporting off the ECC data since the DB is shared.
Also you will have to configure the JAVA stack.

Query on tables

You can use virtual infoproviders in BI and create Bex reports over it .These info providers will not store the data physically but will pull the data from the ECC relevant tables when query is executed.
The different Virtual Providers are based on the data transfer process, on a BAPI (Business Application Program Interface), or on the function module.
They Basically are used for getting the up-to-date information from an SAP source system, but it is suggested that you only access a small set of data as there are performance issue associate with this affecting both source and target system . There are specific situations where the use of this type of Virtual Provider is important---for example, if you are looking to validate information that was uploaded into the BI system and you use this Virtual Provider to access the same table you used for the upload. You could create a query against this Virtual Provider to review the information directly from the source system and then compare it to the uploaded data
In short , used to carry out the reconcilliation between the source and BI system .

Can we create BI Accelerators on Virtual infoproviders.

Hi,
Virtual Providers mean Which doesn't contain data Example include Multiproviders and Infosets also.
Remote cubes are also Virtual Providers.
BIA is another physical medium which contains data in compressed indexes format.
Currently only Infocube contents we can maintain in BIA.
So if a query on Multiprovider runs and the underlying cubes are maintained in BIA then it will fetch data from BIA.
We can't create BIA indexes on Remote cubes.

I don't believe BW is really dying as a "modeling environment".
What might probably happen is for BW to disappear as an additional persistence layer (the BW Box), i.e. the Embedded BW scenario tends to gain more and more visibility. With virtual infoproviders and transformations being pushed down to the HANA layer, you can get pretty much the same results than a persistent BW with very good performance and 1/10th of the data footprint (zero replication).
This is already true today. Check for example the details on the analytical applications on top of SFIN (Smart Financials) 1.0. SFIN is the new FI module (aka HANA GL), rebuilt from scratch on top of HANA. i.e it is the first piece of ERP that was not adapted but born on top of an in-memory architecture. It was what HANA was developed for in the first place (i.e. the next-generation SAP ERP architecture). And its analytical applications, for example the new SAP Smart Cash Management app, are completely built on top of Virtual Infoproviders in Embedded BW (i.e. BW as a LDW, Logical Data Warehouse). This means the modeling skills of BW Consultants are not gonna disappear, they'll still be required since BW infoproviders on top of VIPs, Composite Providers, BEx Queries etc. are all gonna be there for a long, long time.

These applications consist of “local” BI content. “Local” means that this BI content is shipped with the Smart Financials system and not with the “central” BI content. Summarized Overview about Cube-Layouts?

Hi experts,
does NetWeaver BI 7.0 provide any kind of summerized overview, which gives information about the number of dimensions existing in all (non-virtual) InfoProviders, their record-count, space-usage, fact-table sizes, etc?!
Or is the only way to get this information the usage of SE16 on a per-table basis?

there are few in se37 . put RSAR* and f4 and cube you will find functional modules which can help you for the issue.
You can find in se38 also few programs with rsar*
You can use sap_infocube_designs functional module also.

Infosets with mutiple InfoCubes

I would like some assistance with creating an infoset that contains multiple cubes. There are four cubes included. I am able to create, set joins and activate, but if I use listcube to display the data, I get the following error after a long period of waiting:
The data from the InfoProvider could not be checked. Message: DBMAN242, A participating InfoProvider is virtual and agreement between results and selections cannot be guaranteed.
None of the cubes are virtual. I did read in some documentation that more than two InfoCubes within an Infoset is not generally supported so will this design not work?
Also, I'm wondering if there are issues related to the joins. They are all inner joins. In the link maintenance is it necessary to select all fields that have been identified as a possible join field or can I do a subset of those?

I have an infoset which is composed of a cube, a characteristic (infoobject) and a dso. When I do, via RSA1, display data for each of the components, I'm able to get the requested data. When I do the same for the infoset no data is displayed.
When data is collected from the infoset or, in particular, the underlying characteristic (ZAPPARAAT) following message appears:
The data from the InfoProvider ZAPPARAAT involved could not be checked
Message no. DBMAN242
Diagnosis
A participating InfoProvider is virtual and aggreement between results and selections cannot be guaranteed.
Despite the fact that ZAPPARAAT is not virtual at all. It contains master data (equipmentinformation), is loaded from a datasource, is marked to be an infoprovider, has attributes and an infoarea (0UC_IO) assigned to.
I specially mention this because I've found somewhere on the internet that infoobjects are not virtual, and also that virtual infoproviders cannot be used in an infoset.
I've found a bypass by comparing infoobjects in our BW-system which do deliver a result with those which don't do that.
It has lead me to change the definitions of the infoobject: in the tab 'Business Explorer' by setting Query Def. Filter Value Selection on "InfoProvider Values Only" and in the tab 'Master data/texts' by assigning the value "0IS_UC-IO" to Application Component.
After activating the infoobject and loading it again with data, I saw appear the result on my screen when I carried out "Display Data" on the infoset.
I don't know if this is a good solution. I also don't know if loading the data again really is needed. I've little knowledge of BW. I hope it will help to solve yoyr problem. Some feedback would be welcome.

Parrallel Processing in xMII

Hello All.
I am designing a large scale Real Time Reporting solution using regional xMII servers to source data that is then fed into NetWeaver BI Virtual InfoProviders for reporting.
My current problem is that I can't figure out how to make xMII do two tasks in parallel. Let me explain why I want to do this.
Suppose I need data for a report from multiple source applications that are connected to a regional xMII server. I can have Net Weaver BI make a call to the xMII server for the data, and then xMII needs to collect the data from each of the sources. At the moment, xMII makes a request to the first source, waits for the response, then makes a request to the next source and waits for the response, and then the next...etc
Ideally, I need to have xMII initiate each of the requests from the source systems and run the queries in parallel. When the last query has finished, then post the entire result set back to Netweaver BI.
How do I spawn Multiple queries in parallel in xMII?

I suspect that there is significant potential performance that can be gained from "intermediate content caching". There is probably some overlap between subsequent user requests that could share a previous resultset.
xMII's business logic service engine was designed such that multiple actions within a sequence could run in parallel (I designed it. ) , but this capability was not enabled for a number of reasons related to scaleability when the product ran on IIS (version 11.5 and older).
I would suggest pushing this is an enhancement request - the infrastructure to do this would not be too substantial and would be useful if used carefully.
Alternatively, it would be rather easy to write a standalone app/servlet that invoked xMII transactions in parallel (via calls the the Runner servlet) to make the data requests (and persist the results to disk temporarily), then invoked the aggregrator/calculation transaction. Not a perfect solution, but would work.

I'd like to try help about your question,
There are various type of InfoCube in BW, ones of then are BasicCube and VirtualCube. When you create a MultiProvider, you should see a sreen wiht five tap level, the first is InfoCubes in this list you should choose your VirtualCube (If you don't see it, try to change your selection in the botton Display Option and select "Display all InfoProviders")

I have a general doubt regarding two Standard InfoCubes
We have two InfoCubes FIGL_C01, FIGL_C01, based on which we have two Virtual InfoCubes with services. FIGL_VC1, FIGL_VC2.
What is the necessity for maintaining these InfoProviders as we are already having the base InfoCubes on which we can derive the queries.
What is the basic use of Virutal InfoCube with Services.

Note 673564 describes exactly why the virtual Infocubes 0FIGL_VC1 and 0FIGL_VC2 were developed. (because BW cannot handle the FI fin. statement hierarchies)

Error while reading data for Virtual Infoprovider 0TCT_VC11 and 0TCT_VC12

Hi ,
The standard reports based on 0TCT_VC11 and 0TCT_VC12 are working fine in development system. When we moved the following objects to test system ,
0TCT_VC11 - 0TCT_IS11 & 0TCT_DS11
0TCT_VC12 - 0TCT_IS12 & 0TCT_DS12
We are not able to view data either in the MP nor at the report level.We face the following issue
There is still no data source assigned to VirtualProvider 0TCT_VC11
Error reading the data of InfoProvider 0TCT_VC11
Error while reading data; navigation is possible

Hello Lavanya,
Please activate the direct access for the virtual providers. Also note that it is only possible to use the BI admin cockpit in a myself system.
Please follow the below steps to activate the same:
TX: RSA1 ->Infoproviders-> Business Information-> BI Statistics->select
Virtual provider-> Go to context menu of the virtual cubes-> Activate
Direct Access. ( Eg virtual cube name )
Please also generate the reports by following the below steps:
RSRT -> Query name -> Generate Report.

Error in Data Reading in Virtual Provider

Hi Experts,
I am using a dummy system where I've created a created a DS in ECC and assigned it to a Virtual provider of type 'Virtual Providers with Staging Connect'.
While saving data into table in ECC I've entered some error records and as a result got error in VCube, So what my question is:
Can we edit the data in BW? (considering I don't have access to the table in ECC.)
Is it possible to create Error Stack DTP for VCubes?

I agree with Ganesh, as Virtual Providers are
InfoProviders with transaction data that is not stored in the object itself, but which is read directly for analysis and reporting purposes. The relevant data can be from the BI system or from other SAP or non-SAP systems. Virtual Providers only allow read access to data.

Virtual Key Figure on Multicube (RSR_OLAP_BADI)

I've created a virtual key figure (using RSR_OLAP_BADI) for number of days in month [zdays_month]. Everything works perfectly when it's used in a query on a cube cube. BUT, when I try to use it in aquery on a multi-cube, it doesn't. The multi-cube query returns a number = the number of days in the month * the number transactions in that month.
Anyone know how I can force the VKF to execute after the data is returned? I would prefer to not mess with exception aggregation, or key figure properties. I need to keep this VERY SIMPLE for my query developers.

first try to check whether the query access virtual kf or not, use transaction rsrt, type in the query name, and click technical info or properties, there will some line 'virtual char/kf'.
i think the query may never access the code in BadI because in the code it's set with condition infoprovider technical name, it will cover only the infoprovider, when we access query from multiprovider, which join from one of the infoprovider, it's not automatically have the virtual kf/char, we have to specified the multiprovider name in the BadI, you may change the code as following :
