Virtual IP Relocated

Hi Guys,
Quick question - I hope !
I have recently seen the following three critical alerts:
on Target abc2 CRS resource ora.scan3.vip was relocated to abc2
on Target abc2 CRS resource ora.scan2.vip was relocated to abc2
on Target abc1 CRS resource ora.scan1.vip was relocated to abc1
I have googled and googled this but can't find out if this is in fact a potential train smash or if I need to relocate them back.
We did have a failure last week and everything failed over but when the failed node was restarted ASM did not start automatically, when it was manually started these alerts appeared.
The set up is:
2 node 11gr2  RAC install on Windows 2008 64bit with ASM.
3 SCAN listeners split over the two nodes
If there is anything else config wise please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Or to boil it down to the question: Is there a feature for a sqlnet connection like "-b" for ssh ?Nope. Cannot recall ever seeing such an option. On the server side that feature is obviously available to bind tcp end points to specific IPs.
Why exactly do you need this feature on the client side? I do not understand the "+the client connects using changing IP addresses, although the application is having a single and constant virtual IP. This requires more open conenctions on the FW between DB and client than necessary+" problem you've stated.
If the client opens 2 connections to the database, then that will be 2 connections via the firewall. As the private port of the client will differ for each connection and thus make the connection unique.
Now whether those 2 client connection use IP1 or IP2 on the client for binding, will not matter - as 2 distinct connections will be created irrespective.
If for some reason you want from the firewall or db server see these inbound client connections as minimal IP sources - then you can do this by using a single IP for all inbound connection by NAT'ing.
You put down a NAT firewall (using iptables for example) and simply rewrite inbound IP headers for tcp packets on 1521 to the NAT IP and forward the packet to the firewall/db server.
That server will see a single client IP only for all incoming traffic. Works pretty well for Oracle as the client connection string includes the client hostname/hostid - so you can still in Oracle see which session is from which client, despite all these sessions having the same source IP.

  • Relocating virtual disks to file systems other than dom0:/OVS/running_pool

    It looks like the best approach for having multiple large file systems mounted within a domU is by:
    1.) Use VM Mgr to create dummy virtual disk (within dom0:/OVS/running_pool/domU)
    2.a) if size of dummy is large enough, cp it to a different file system within domU
    2.b) if size of dummy is too small, create a new file on different file system within domU using dd
    3.) Replace dummy virtual disk file (within dom0:/OVS...) with symbolic link that reference the new replacement file.
    Are others doing this? Is there a better way?
    Does it cause problems?
    is there a way to update VM Mgr to show the correct size if the virt disk is enlarged from the size of the original dummy virtual disk?
    Thx...

    You can use the /usr/lib/ovs/ovs-makerepo script to add additional repositories under the /OVS mount point. The script takes a block device as a parameter. For example, to create a new shared location on /dev/mapper/mpath1p1, you would run:
    # /usr/lib/ovs/ovs-makerepo /dev/mapper/mpath1p1 1 "Shared Storage"
    These repositories are then visible to Oracle VM and VM Manager. It will use the repository with the most amount of available space to create your guests for you.

  • Exchange 2010: Virtualized Exchange 2010 Datacenter Migration

    We have a virtualized Exchange 2010 production implementation that needs to be relocated to a new datacenter. We will be leveraging SAN based replication and VMWare to cutover.
    Some background info:
    3 CAS/HUB servers
    4 Node DAG across 2 sites (3 production Mailbox servers in the site to be migrated, 1 mailbox server will not move and be left in DR)
    Since I need to shutdown 3 mailbox servers in a 4 node DAG, the cluster will go offline and the databases will dismount. I could run a datacenter switchover to preserve service, but I have the OK to take Exchange completely down.
    Knowing that:
    1) What are the best practices to shutdown and start up all the CAS servers and Mailbox servers (both in prod and DR)?
    2) Should I suspend replication or dismount the databases in advance and prevent them from automatically mounting on boot up?  Is the StartDagServerMaintenance script relevant in this situation?
    Any suggestions on the proper way to go about this is much appreciated.  Thanks for reading.

    -->1) During the shutdown...would it make sense to turn off the 4th mailbox server in the DAG which is located in our DR site? I'm thinking that leaving the DR mailbox server powered off and powering it up last among the DAG members would prevent
    any database copies from being activated in DR.
    You already have a planned outage. I suggest you shut down the server in DR and start that after starting
    all the 3.
    2) To be able to mount a database in a 4 node DAG, I need to have the file share witness and two mailbox servers available first...correct?
    Your fileshare witness should be online first otherwise none of your databases will get mounted.
    If your DAG contains odd number of members filesharewitness will be ignored, (even number of DAG members will use filesharewitness)http://blog.credera.com/technology-insights/microsoft-solutions/when-do-dags-need-a-file-share-witness/

  • Pragma pack(1) - relocation Error

    Hi,
    I am trying to use the #pragma pack(1) with Forte C++.
    I do use the -misalign option both at compilation and link.
    However, when I use a in this context, a class with virtual functions I get compilation errors at code generation ("location counter not on word boundary"). I get rid of these by compiling in debug mode, but then when linking I got the following error :
    "ld: fatal: relocation error: R_SPARC_DISP32: file foo.o: symbol <unknown>: offset
    0xfd8ea37b is non-aligned" as many times as I have virtual functions in my class.
    Has anyone used virtual functions in classes compiled with pragma pack(1)? and faced the same problem ?
    Am I missing an option ?
    Is there a workaround ?
    Thanks in advance.

    We've had the same problem with #pragma pack(1).
    When a class or a struct is not 'plain old data' (POD), it packs with 'normal' alignment instead of pack(1) apparently.
    You can make the class 'POD' by:
    - removing constructors
    - removing private data
    Other functions (as operator overloaders) are allowed, as we found out by trail/error.
    Anyway, you will find out if you remove the constructor from your class (and make e.g. an operator overloader for the assignment operator) that the packing will work as expected.

  • Ld relocation warning for polymorphic class declared __symbolic

    The SDN article [Reducing Symbol Scope with Sun Studio C/C++|http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/symbol_scope.html|By Giri Mandalika, May, 2005 (revised March 22, 2006) ] says that:
    The mixed use of -xldscope=hidden and __symbolic will yield the same effect as __declspec(dllexport) in DLLs on Windows (explained in the later part of the article).
    However, the Solaris 10 linker (version 5.10-1.482) issues a relocation warning for polymorphic classes declared with the __symbolic specifier, a common practice in DLLs on Windows. The same happens when using the new Sun C++ 5.9 specifier __declspec(dllexport) when building the .so and dllimport when using it as discussed later in the referenced SDN article.
    Is the comment in the article incorrect or is the linker buggy?
    $    cat t.cpp \
      && CC -PIC -DEXPORT=__symbolic -xldscope=hidden -c t.cpp \
      && CC -G -o libt.so t.o \
      && CC -DEXPORT=__global -DMAIN -c t.cpp \
      && CC -o t t.o -L. -lt
    struct EXPORT B { virtual ~B (); };
    #ifdef MAIN
    int main () { B b; }
    #else
    B::~B () { }
    #endif
    ld: warning: relocation warning: R_SPARC_COPY: file ./libt.so: symbol B::__vtbl: relocation bound to a symbol with STV_PROTECTED visibility

    The __global on the declaration is needed in order for the linker to resolve references to the symbol when using it (i.e., in the executable or another .so). Replacing __global with __symbolic on the declaration prevents the executable from linking. Dropping the __global altogether cause the same warning as with __global.
    Btw., the same warning is issued for global data (see below). In the Suggestions on establishing an object interface, the article says:
    >
    2. Define all interface symbols using the __symbolic directive, data objects using the __global directive and reduce all other symbols to local using the -xldscope=hidden compiler option.
    >
    which is again different from the Windows approach, just like in the case of polymorphic classes. Since virtual tables are essentially global objects, the warning seems consistent and suggests that the article is wrong in claiming that:
    >
    The mixed use of -xldscope=hidden and __symbolic will yield the same effect as __declspec(dllexport) in DLLs on Windows...
    >
    $    cat t.cpp \

  • PL/SQL Virtual Machine in Oracle 10g

    Can someone give me some hints about the new PL/SQL features in Oracle 10g? Also, I have just read about a new PL/SQL Virtual Machine (PVM), what benefits we can expect from this?

    Check out this talk in Oracle Openworld:
    40168 PL/SQL Just Got Faster
    Product Area: Database
    Solution Areas: Performance and Scalability
    Application Development
    Target Audience: DBA
    Developer
    Length: 1 Hour
    Level: Intermediate
    Abstract: The 10g version of the Oracle Database has a brand-new PL/SQL compiler and an enhanced runtime system. The runtime system (the PL/SQL Virtual Machine) has been enhanced by implementation of additional instructions. This allows the MCode generated by the compiler to be smaller, improving overall Oracle performance, scalability, and reliability.
    The new code generator always improves code locally by generating more-efficient MCode from the output from the syntactic and semantic analysis phase, without consideration of the flow of control in the original program. Optionally, it can improve code globally--for example, by finding expressions that are computed inside a loop but that actually don't change with loop iteration. This presentation describes the general nature of these optimizations.
    Additionally, native compilation has been improved: The configuration steps have been simplified; the resulting shared, dynamically linkable libraries are now stored in the database; backup and standby are simplified; and interoperability with RAC is guaranteed.
    The presentation discusses performance experiments with a wide range of representative PL/SQL programs in each of the possible compilation conditions: Oracle9i Release 2 versus Oracle Database 10g, INTERPRETED versus NATIVE code, and optimizer level 1 versus optimizer level 2 (relevant only in Oracle Database 10g). Each program is instrumented to record CPU time for PL/SQL processing and run several times under each compilation condition to get statistically significant timings. (The timings are time to completion for a single-server session on an otherwise quiet machine.) They're consistently quickest for Oracle Database 10g, NATIVE and optimize level 2, and slowest for Oracle9i Database, INTERPRETED (where the optimize level is not applicable).
    The average ratio of these fastest and slowest speeds over all tested programs supports the conclusion that PL/SQL in Oracle Database 10g is twice as fast as it was in the previous version.
    The session also presents real-world performance results from IFS AB and 170 systems, based on its testing of its applications during the Oracle Database 10g beta program.

  • Problem with DNS and/or Virtual Host (works from inside, not from outside)

    I am running several web sites (as virtual hosts) successfully on one Xserve (192.168.200), which are accessible internally and from the Internet (via forwarding port 80 on our firewall).
    Now I am trying to add another web site (newmini.domain.com), which however is running on a Mac mini (also on the same subnet as the Xserve) at 192.168.100. What I did is make an additional entry under the Xserve's DNS for the domain (domain.com) (+ Machine..., pointing to 192.168.0.100). (I also made the necessary changes to the Mac mini's httpd and hosts configuration--no problem there).
    Now, here's the strange thing: All computers on the subnet, whose DNS points to the Xserve, can see and browse newmini.domain.com fine. No problem. The computers ask the Xserve for the IP of the host in question, the Xserve says, "192.168.100", the request goes to the Mac mini, and it serves the web site as expected.
    But this doesn't happen if the request comes from the Internet. Instead of seeing the Mac mini, the client sees the default web site of the Xserve... So it appears that somewhere, the virtual host part of the HTTP request is lost between our firewall and the Xserve.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    It's not going to.
    You say you've setup port forwarding on the firewall. Port forwarding only cares about the port number (80). It knows nothing about the nature of the request (e.g. the hostname that the web request is for). Therefore all extenal connections on port 80 get sent to the XServe. The newmini doesn't see the traffic at all.
    If you only have a single public IP address you can only forward port 80 traffic to a single machine. Your options are to either use a different port number, or configure the XServe to proxy the connection to the mini (so now the traffic goes router -> XServe -> Mini -> XServe -> router), although that might not do what you want since it still places load and dependencies on the XServe.

    I'm following a how-to document to report on a virtual cube using a custom function module and everything seems to be OK except it is dumping at the following line which is included in the How To document "How Tou2026Implement a virtual InfoProvider with Services".
    Both <l_s_data> and E_T_DATA  are of same data types as discussed in the how-to document.

    These are the declarations which are same as HowTo document
    E_T_DATA TYPE  STANDARD TABLE
    FIELD-SYMBOLS: <l_s_data> TYPE ANY.
    Did any one face this issue. Greatly appreciate any insight into this issue. We are on BW 3.0B.
    the dump i'm getting is ...
    Data objects in a Unicode program are not convertible.

    I don't see a clear way to create an Azure Virtual Network using the SDK.
    I have all the methods to create the virtual network configuration, but no way to submit it:
    IList<string> VirtualNetworkAddressPrefixes = new List<string>();
    IList<string> LocalNetworkAddressPrefixes = new List<string>();
    IList<NetworkListResponse.DnsServer> DNSServers = new List<NetworkListResponse.DnsServer>();
    IList<NetworkListResponse.Subnet> Subnets = new List<NetworkListResponse.Subnet>();
    NetworkListResponse.Gateway Gateway = new NetworkListResponse.Gateway();
    IList<NetworkListResponse.LocalNetworkSite> LocalSites = new List<NetworkListResponse.LocalNetworkSite>();
    IList<NetworkListResponse.Connection> Connections = new List<NetworkListResponse.Connection>();
    VirtualNetworkAddressPrefixes.Add("a.b.c.d/cidr");

    Gateway.Sites = LocalSites;
    Gateway.Profile = GatewayProfile.ExtraLarge;

    I have also created the entire XML response and sent it to the NetworkManagementClient -> Networks.SetConfiguration() method, but it appears this command expects the virtual network to already be in existence. If anyone could give guidance, it would be

    Hi,
    As discuss above , we have to create the XML response  ,before that first you have to

  • How can I cancel the "Recreate All Virtual Dekstops" for a pooled collection in 2012 R2?

    I currently have a system single-server installation of VDI, using 2012 R2 Standard as the server, using pooled collections of Windows 8.1.  In general, everything works very well, but I've been searching in vain for ONE command.  When
    I make a change to the master template in Hyper-V, Checkpoint it, then go into the Remote Desktop Services, go the appropriate collection and initiate a "Recreate All Virtual Desktops", how would I cancel that?
    It's happened on more than one occasion, where I make a change or an update to the template, and then push out the 25 new Virtual Desktops, and then the client comes back asking for a "little" change....but I'm stuck pushing it out until
    all 25 desktops have been recreated.  There must be a way to interrupt this process (probably leaving a few VM Desktops in an unstable state...which I don't care too much about as it's a pooled collection), update the template, and push it out again with
    the "Recreate All Virtual Desktops".  I do have the concurrency set so it recreates 5 at a time, but that noticeably impacts the users, and I don't want to just push out all 25 at a pop and interrupt everyone's work.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Have you tried Stop-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionJob ?  Something like below:
    Import-Module RemoteDesktop
    Stop-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionJob -CollectionName "PooledCollectionName" -ConnectionBroker "broker.yourdomain.com"
    -TP

  • How to load a virtual tour in Flash Catalyst ?

    Hi,
    I want to know if is it possible to load on FC 5.5 a Virtual Tour imported in .swf and created from Autopano Tour Pro.
    example: http://fraize54th.free.fr/jardinAlex.html
    I tried but I don't find any issue possible, if somebody could tell me if I can do this or I I have to give up !
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
    I wasn't able to make that SWF load from within an FC project, either.  FC does support embedding of SWFs, but there may be some addional logic that sets this SWF up that doesn't function well when called from within another SWF.
    This isn't a perfect solution, but you could have an FC button or action open an URL (where your virtual tour swf resided).
    Good luck!
    Nate

  • Error While Creating Windows Server 2008 SP2 32-BIT Virtual Machine

    I am facing an error while creating a Virtual Machine on the Cloud. The Error is below:
    Error (610)
    Virtual Machine Manager was unable to find a value for the required Sysprep parameter ProductKey.
    Recommended Action
    Add the missing Sysprep parameter either to the answer file or to the operating system configuration, and then try the operation again.
    My Template does not have the Product Key defined.  The OS is Windows Server 2008 SP2 32-BIT.  Is defining Product Key absolutely necessary?  I have other Templates for other Operating Systems and they are working fine.  Only facing problem
    with this.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    In the SCVMM world a 'template' is composed of the following: a VHD with an OS that has been generalized (sysprep), virtual hardware profile (settings), and an OS profile.
    The OS profile is required to have a product key.  A MAC activation key at the minimum.  But the key is required.
    If you deploy a VM from a VHD, the same customization assumptions are not at play.  Which is why it succeeds.  (there is no template in this case, there is also no requirement that the OS in the VHD be sysprep'd).
    SCVMM has rules.  And lots of things don't make sense until you begin to understand them and play within them. (I am not saying that the SCVMM rules are a good thing, just saying they exist)
