Virtual Machine Additions in Virtual PC for Mac 7.0.2
I'm also new to Virtual PC for Mac and will try some of the suggestions for speeding it up; it is painfully slow. However, I have another but related question.
I keep getting a prompt when I boot Windows XP Prof. and it opens Virtual. It tells me that after I see my Windows desktop, I should install and update Virtual Machine Additions from the PC Menu. My problem is, I can't figure out how to do that. When I'm in Windows, I've explored everything I can find......Menu...Control Panel...Applications, but I can't find anything that shows Virtual PC running so I can't get to the menu that should take me to updates. When I open just Virtual from my Mac desktop (w/o opening Windows) it checks for updates on Virtual PC for Mac but not Virtual Machine Updates. Neither can I find anything on Machine Updates when I search Apple or this support site. When I search Yahoo, it says I have to be running it to update....kind of full circle with it.
Can anyone help re: how to do Virtual Machine Addition Updates? Thanks.
Oops...tried it again..new problem. When I open Virtual, this is the message I get. When I boot from Windows it works........
"OS not found
Install an OS on this hard drive
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device"
Think I'll uninstall and re-install e'thing from the Virtuall PC for Mac CD. Hate to do it.......just spent a long time y'day doing 17 security updates.
Maybe reinstalling I'll be able to do Machine updates.

Sorry, yes this is Microsoft Excel. The Microsoft XP has Excel files denoted as xl, the later versions of Microsoft Excel are denoted as xls files. The later verions of Microsoft Excel open the xl files OK, does Excel for Mac not able to do this?

New MacBook Retina Pro 15.4 inch with 2.2 Ghz and running Yosemite 10.10.2 will not recognize LaCie Quadra H2 disk. Also will not complete Time Machine Backup onto My Passport for Mac which it does recognize. Plenty of disc space both externals.
If you choose to use garbage such as "Intego VirusBarrier" you are going to need more memory, a lot more. I suggest you uninstall it according to its instructions, and evaluate your Mac's performance without burdening it with completely useless junk. As long as Intego remains active, your Mac will have few resources remaining to do anything else.
Using Intego's "Virus Barrier" and "Net Barrier" products on a brand new Mac containing nothing but one minimally configured user account resulted in performance degradation so severe that it became nearly unusable. No knowledgeable Mac user would consider using it even remotely tolerable.
Intego should only be uninstalled using the uninstaller included with it. Don't use anything else. A successful uninstallation will result in the following:
After that, restart your Mac. Other Intego components will remain but they will be inert and will not affect your Mac's operation. -
Moving virtual machine Pagefiles to seperate VHD for exclusion by DPM
Hi,
I have read the MS documentation regarding excluding pagefile churns from virtual machines to increase performance of backups and reduce storage space required and I would like to implement this within our environment.

However, when I move the pagefiile from the system disk onto a seperate VHD I get the following warning:
"If you disable the paging file or set the initial size to less than 400 megabytes and a system error occurs, Windows might not record details that could help identify the problem. Do you want to continue?"
As I understand things this means that I may not get a crash dump if a BSOD occurs. Is this correct, and if so how can I mitigate? How have others managed this scenario, do you just live with the fact that you won't get a dump file in the event of a problem?

AFAIK, all you need to do is to ensure that the separate drive does have a paging file on it, and then this message can be ignored.
Once the the page-file for a virtual machine is moved to a different VHD, you should exclude it from DPM by using the Set-DPMGlobalProperty cmdlet.
Otherwise, you can use backup tools that can do page-file exclusion in automatic fashion, like Veeam, for instance. We use the said software in our environments and pretty happy with the functionality it provides.

Why are there no good CNC G-Code programs like MasterCAM for Mac? Machinists use G Code. It is a very basic language. There are really no good programs on Mac to generate CORRECT code.
Obviously, knowledge of MACHINING is of PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE here.The Java Update has caused other problems. Search the board. Macintouch discovered that it is more strict about the path to the Java engine, which may explain a lot of issues:

I am running BPA on My Exchange 2010 VM (Server 2008 R2 VM on Hyper-V) and get the following errors:
The 'Services' string type value located in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\Setup\Services' registry key is missing or inaccessible. The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service won't start. As a result, all services that depend
on this service won't be able to start
Exchange server [Exchange Server FQDN] is a virtual machine but the additional tools are not installed. This configuration is not supported. Install Virtual Machine Additions for this guest.
Problem is that, for the first, that Key exists and the service is actually running fine. And for the second my VM tools are already installed.
Hopefully someone out there has had the same issue and can assist.

For the first error message, please try the following steps:
Make sure the Information Store service is in Starting status,
Automatic startup type and works well, as a test we can try to
restart the Infroamtion Store service and verify the service works well.
Start
Registry Editor, find the registry key “Services” under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\Setup”, its value is “C:\Program
files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\v14”(default install location), please check your registry, make sure the key “Services” exist and value is the Exchange Server install location and the
location is accessible;
Start
Registry Editor, and locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Setup
Use the
Permission option under the Security tab to check the permission setting on this key. Make sure
System is in the list with Full Control permissions if the service account is Local System. If you are not using Local System as the service account, check the existence of the corresponding account in the list and ensure that

Restart the Exchange Server computer, then rerun the ExBPA.
For the second error message, Microsoft don’t recommend to install Exchange Server on virtual machine without additional tools, so the error message occurs. We can just ignore
this message, it will not affect the Exchange servers.

I have installed two virtual machines(win2k3 32bit and win2k3 64bit ) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies (Beta) enterprise. Mouse is getting lost inside VM (using CTRL+ ATL + LEFT ARROW comes mouse control control in host OS).
Is there any setting to make mouse works? Insert Integration Serice setup Disk operation succeeds.all credits for mike_something
The problem is that the old mousedriver is hooked to the mouse device class.
To remove this dependency, go into the registry and navigate to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Remove the value msvmmouf from the UpperFilters Regvalue.
Reboot....

If you wish you can take out the drivers completely by deleting these registry hives completely :

Virtual Machine crashing all the time: The previous system shutdown at a certain date was unexpected
Hello,
I've a build node that is constantly crashing and rebooting.
When I go to system event log I'm not able to identify the reasons for such behavior.
For instance regarding the machine latest crash I can see: The previous system shutdown at 10:24:57 on 27-02-2015 was unexpected.
But when I try to find some entry corresponding to that time i see none!

According to the title ,do you mean the host machine will reboot when we start the virtual machine and the virtual machine will crash or just the virtual will reboot ?Have you got a BSOD(Blue screen) ?
Did the issue occur before ?Have you installed any third party software recently ?
Please ensure the host machine has got the latest updates.
I suspect there may be a third party conflicts here.
Please try clean boot to have a troubleshoot .

I can't seem to find a good step by step on using a virtual machine as a refernce computer for the capture and depoly part of OSD. Does anyone have a link that has helped them?

Phil BalderosIt is pretty straight forward, same way you would do a B&C on a physical. Only added benefit is you don't have a bunch of garbage drivers preloaded into the OS.
I can give you a high level type of approach:
Create your B&C task sequence inside of SCCM
Advertise to your unknown computers collection
Using your Virtualization software, provision your VM with standard hardware. Nothing special
PXE boot your VM into the SCCM OSD
Choose your advertised B&C task sequence
Once complete, add your newly captured WIM to the Operating System Images node in SCCM
Create a Deploy Task Sequence
Advertise that to your unknown computer collection
PXE boot one of your physical boxes and test the new task sequence to ensure the new image works/looks properly
Please note: Step 9 may take some additional configuration of boot drivers in order to work depending on your hardware you are trying to deploy to
It's hard to get any more in depth on a walkthrough with that process unless you wanted to start getting hardware/software specific. If you have questions along the way about specifics we can always help with that as well

Procedure to clean up (shrink) a Snow Leopard virtual machine under VMware Fusion 5.0.3
1. Backup your existing Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine
2. Right click the Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine
Click Show Package Contents
If there are a number of Virtual Disk files then Fusion is allocating space for the virtual machine in 2 GB segments
Close the Package Contents folder
3. If the Snow Leopard virtual machine is segmented then convert it to a single Virtual Disk.vmdk as follows:
Start VMware Fusion
Select the Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine
Click Settings > Hard Disk (SCSI)
Click the Advanced options disclosure triangle
Clear 'Split into 2 GB files'
Click Apply
This process will take a few minutes to complete. After the conversion is done, continue with the next step of this procedure.
4. Start the Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine
5. Start Disk Utility
Select Macintosh HD
Click Erase
Click Erase Free Space
Select Zero Out Deleted Files
Click Erase Free Space
If a message is displayed stating: "Your startup disk is almost full", click OK
When the erasure completes, quit Disk Utility
Shut Down the Snow Leopard virtual machine
6. Quit VMware Fusion
7. Right click the Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine
Click Show Package Contents
Select the Virtual Disk.vmdk file
Click Edit > Copy "Virtual Disk.vmdk"
Select your ~/Documents/Virtual Machines folder
Click Edit > Paste Item
8. Rename the "Virtual Disk.vmdk" file in your ~/Documents/Virtual Machines folder to "Original Disk.vmdk"
9. Start Terminal
Change "xxxxxxxx" in the following Terminal command to your short account name.
"/Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-vdiskmanager" -r "/Users/xxxxxxxx/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Original Disk.vmdk" -t 0 "/Users/xxxxxxxx/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Virtual Disk.vmdk"
Paste this Terminal command (including the leading and trailing quotation marks) into the Terminal window
Press the return (enter) key
After the process completes and the Terminal input prompt is displayed, quit Terminal
10. Right click the Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine
Click Show Package Contents
Right click the Virtual Disk.vmdk file and select Move to Trash
Move the Virtual Disk.vmdk file from your ~/Documents/Virtual Machines folder to the Mac OS X Snow Leopard package folder
Close the Package Contents folder
11. Start the Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine to confirm that it runs correctly

Pretty much. You can always erase your hard drive and reinstall the OS. Some people may attempt to talk you through manually deleting files. I try very hard to avoid doing that because 100% of the time, the person I'm trying to help can't find the files and, instead, starts randomly deleting required system files. Then you have no choice but to reinstall the OS. -

I have a problem with XML customizing of reports. When I want to run full defined XML report by RWRUN60 I become this error:
ERROR:Unable to obtain JNI enviroment!
ERROR: XML definition failed to parse!

Problem Description
REP-6101 Failed to Start Java Virtual Machine error is returned when running a report from the command line using the CUSTOMIZE= runtime parameter.
NOTE: The error does not occur if the CUSTOMIZE parameter is not included in the command line.
Solution Description
Set the following Environment Variables:
REPORTS60_CLASSPATH to include the rt.jar, myreports60.jar, and xmlparser.jar files and set REPORTS60_JNI_LIB.
For example setting the environment variables using the C shell:
setenv REPORTS6O_CLASSPATH $ORACLE_HOME/network/jre11/lib/rt.jar:
$ORACLE_HOME/reports60/java/myreports60.jar:$ORACLE_HOME/reports60/
java/xmlparser.jar
setenv REPORTS60_JNI_LIB $ORACLE_HOME/network/jre11/lib/sparc/
native_threads/libjava.so
Explanation
The REPORTS60_CLASS path needs to be set to include the necessary jar files and REPORTS60_JNI_LIB specifies the Java Virtual Machine native library.

After installation, while creating a virtual machine, I recieved the following error message:

MauryIf you are new, why not use the current version, 3.0.3? I am new too, and don't know anything about version 2 so I can't help with your direct question. 3.0.3 actually has ten patches against the host and 1 for the manager. I'd suggest you get current and start over.

I think you should be asking VMWare whether you can run that VMWare program on a Mac, and how to install it. That is where you will need to turn for support if you run into problems.
