Virtual Machine - creating

First of all let me say Hi :-)
I was wondering if you guys could provide insight on the status of a virtual machine. I am importing an Oracle VM Template and the status seems to hang in 'Creating' and it's been several hours already. How long should I expect for these template-based vm's to create? What can be the cause of a vm not flipping over to 'Powered off'?
Are there any log files I can check for feedback?
Thanks for any input,
Honza
Edit:
I should add I am using the VM Manager for this.
Which actually brings up another question, how are virtual machines created via Manager related with those created directly on the server? If I create a machine with 'xm create' will it be available through the VM Manager?

This error message could mean that the storage repository isn't configured correctly. Are you able to access the vm.cfg file from every server in the pool?

  • Can a virtual machine created on one server run on any other server?

    Hello Community
If you have 7 Servers (named "Server1" ... "Server7") all running WS2012 R2 server Standard Edition,
which you get to create 2 Virtual Machines (using Hyper-V) at no extra cost.
        The question is:
Knowing that each server has its own IP address and may even be on a different subnet(s)
or the same subnet, if you create 2 virtual machines on  (for example) "Server3"  will those virtual
machines be able to run on any of the other 6 servers?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

Unless this is some trick question then yes you can.

  • Is it possible to install SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition on a Windows Server 2012 Standard Which is installed on a Virtual Machine that is created by Hyper-V?

    Hi
I have recently bought a Virtual Machine from a data center and installed a Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition on it. As I tried to install the SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition, the data center administrator denied me to do this telling me it is not possible
to install any licensed Microsoft software on a Windows installed on virtual machine created by Hyper-V. It was really strange for me! I wanna know if this is true.
    Thanks Everybody

    Hi Farid,
For SQL server running on virtual server please refer to following article :

  • How to access for Virtual machines in System Center 2012 r2 by remote console through code?

    Hi All,
I am new in System Center. I am using System Center 2012 R2. I have a web application written by dot net, which shows the list of virtual machines created in the SCVMM.  Now, I need to select a Virtual Machine from the list, and click a link named "console
access". This will allow the console access to the virtual machine. How can I perform this task?
    Thanks in advance,
    Moohak

The SCVMM VM console is an ActiveX application.
It is installed with the SCVMM Console application.
If you search around for the old SCVMM Self Service portal, you will discover how MSFT originally enabled this from a web front end.
If you look at Windows Azure Pack you will find a new pattern using RDP gateway.

  • DTrace not working on a Virtual Machine

    Hi,
I am using a virtual machine (created using VMware ESX server) which is installed on top of a physical Windows box.
The VM is loaded with Solaris 10 x86 operating system.
I added the java property in my application config file:
    java.extended.properties=-Xms1024m -Xmx4096m -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m -Xrundvmti:all
Then I added the location of dvmti.jar in my LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
    +# The library path+
    identifier.library.path=/export/home/apps/dvm/build/amd64/lib
When I start my application, I get he following error:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not find agent library dvmti on the library path, with error: ld.so.1: fatal: libdvmti.so: open failed: No such file or directory
I tried many forums for the solution but no use.
Is this happening because it is a VM?
If not, what is the issue?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Chetan

    Hi,
I have not been able to resolve the issue yet.
We are currently downloading data to a different computer with Win 8 and using a flash drive to move the data to our Toshiba.
We have also noticed that the settings on the Toshiba change (without turning it off & within seconds).
In device manager under Bluetooth it will show 1 item but at other times it will show 4 items.
I also don't feel that BT is recognizing the device properly as it can find it and set up a connection but will only connect for 1 or 2 seconds.
Also, in BT devices the settings change from 1 min to the next.
This is very frustrating and is only an issue with the Toshiba. Our other notebooks can connect with ease and download and upload data. We purchased the Toshiba specifically to run this software and be the main data base.
Any advice on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mirror old computers and divide my azure virtual machine in several "computers" or accounts.

    Hi All!!!!
I am not even close to a person that work with computer but, I have an accounting practice and would like to clean the machines and using AZURE create a virtual copy of the machines, how can I do this? Who do I need to contact to help me with this?
Eventually I would like to eliminate all programs from the machines hard drive and use AZURE.
    thanks,

    Hi,
Did you mean that you want to create an Azure VM using the image from your local computer? If yes, you can capture the image of you local computer to the .vhd format, then you can upload it to an Azure strorage account and use it to create a new Azure VM.
For more detailed information, please refer to the link below:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-create-upload-vhd-windows-server/
In addition, do you want to manage the Azure VMs using several account? I would appreciate it if you can decrible more about your requirements as I am not quite sure of that.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • Error While Creating Windows Server 2008 SP2 32-BIT Virtual Machine

I am facing an error while creating a Virtual Machine on the Cloud. The Error is below:
    Error (610)
Virtual Machine Manager was unable to find a value for the required Sysprep parameter ProductKey.
    Recommended Action
Add the missing Sysprep parameter either to the answer file or to the operating system configuration, and then try the operation again.
My Template does not have the Product Key defined.  The OS is Windows Server 2008 SP2 32-BIT.  Is defining Product Key absolutely necessary?  I have other Templates for other Operating Systems and they are working fine.  Only facing problem
    with this.
    Any help would be appreciated.

In the SCVMM world a 'template' is composed of the following: a VHD with an OS that has been generalized (sysprep), virtual hardware profile (settings), and an OS profile.
The OS profile is required to have a product key.  A MAC activation key at the minimum.  But the key is required.
If you deploy a VM from a VHD, the same customization assumptions are not at play.  Which is why it succeeds.  (there is no template in this case, there is also no requirement that the OS in the VHD be sysprep'd).
SCVMM has rules.  And lots of things don't make sense until you begin to understand them and play within them. (I am not saying that the SCVMM rules are a good thing, just saying they exist)

  • "Low Memory Warning" and "fails to create a virtual machine"

    From ide.conf, I learnt:
If you are getting the 'Low Memory Warning' Message Dialog while running JDeveloper, please increase the -Xmx value below from the default 768M to something greater, like 1024M or 1250M. If after increasing the value, JDeveloper is no longer starting up because it fails to create a virtual machine, then please reduce the modified -Xmx value.
    However,
If I set it to a bigger value, say 512M, it fails to create a virtual machine.
If I set it to a smaller value, say 400M, it throws Low Memory Warning after a short while.
So I do not know how to do. Total physical memory of my box is 4G. Free physical user memory after starting jdev is 1.5G.

512M isn't bigger, the default (according to your reading) is 768M...
I just tried with JDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0 (64-bit machine, but using 32-bit JVM) - works fine with 1024M - just to confirm that my changes are working, 5024M does give me "unable to create virtual machine"
Have you messed about with other settings?

  • Error when creating a database on SQL Server 2012(Virtual Machine)

    Hi,
I create a virtual machine on VMWare Workstation 10, then install Windows 7(32bit), then install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise version.
Then I write a Visual C++2008 program and using ADO to connect to the local SQL Server, with the connection string below:
    “Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=(local);Integrated Security=SSPI;”
The connect succeed, then I try to create a new SQL Server database by calling:
    m_pConnection->Execute(_T(“create database MyDatabase on primary (name = ‘MyDatabase’, filename = ‘E:\\MyDatabase.mdf’)”), NULL, 0);
where E: is a USB drive plugged in.
When running the above statement, I can even see the MyDatabase.mdf file is being created, but finally get an error and error number is 80040e31 when checking the error from m_pConnection, after analyzing the com exception, we find it reports the error as
“IDispath error #3121”. Both errors seem to indicate a “Timeout error”.
Then I try to create the database on the local drive in the virtual machine, as follows:
    m_pConnection->Execute(_T(“create database MyDatabase on primary (name = ‘MyDatabase’, filename = ‘C:\\MyDatabase.mdf’)”), NULL, 0);
Then I get error number: 80040e14 from m_pConnection, and com error is “IDispath error #3092”
    What is the problem?
    Thanks

  • Error when creating a new Virtual Machine from VMs and Templates

I try to created a VM from a Template. On a Step 1.5 (Install VM components) and falid. This is a error:
    Error (10659)
Cannot run Sysprep on virtual machine SRV2k8test because the template does not have a virtual hard disk attached that has been generalized.
    Recommended Action
Specify a template that has been generalized and then try the operation again.
    we expect your help.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic - but got some really weird behavior.
I knew that I had to sysprep the vhdx's before bringing them into a template. I've done this (verified twice), and I still end up with the error list at the top of the thread:
    Error (10659)
Cannot run Sysprep on virtual machine SRV2k8test because the template does not have a virtual hard disk attached that has been generalized.
    Recommended Action
Specify a template that has been generalized and then try the operation again.
    we expect your help.
I am running SCVMM 2012 R2, and things were actually running smooth as of three days ago. Templates built before then are still working and can be deployed with no problem.
However, building a new template today gives the above error when testing the deployment.

  • Error Creating VM on 2011 iMac - The Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service encountered an unexpected error: The remote procedure call failed. (0x800706BE).

I am running Hyper-V in Windows 8.1 on a late 2011 27 inch iMac. Whenever I try to create a virtual machine I get the error below and Windows warns that it will restart in 1 minute. I tried a clean install of Windows, but my PC still crashes ever

  • How to provide RDP cert file when create virtual machine deployment?

    hi,
the Azure REST API here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/jj157194.aspx#bk_certificates did not say how to provide a cert for the VM when create it.
the StoredCertificateSettings let you install the uploaded cert onto the vm, but this does not allow you to replace
the RDP cert which created by Azure when the VM is created.
    see below:
the highlighted cert is automatically created by Azure for the virtual machine to secure the RDP connection.
so when you try to remote to the VM, you will see this error, because the cert used for the RDP on the VM is not installed into the "Trused Root Certification Authorities" on local machine.

    Hi,
In Azure, this feature is called
custom data. Currently, you can inject custom data into an Azure VM by using the
    Windows Azure command-line tools (--custom-data).
I assume that it is not supported in Python API. You can use “custom_data=xxx”
within “create_virtual_machine_deployment” to check if it works.
If it is not yet available, please submit your requirement in Azure feedback below:
    http://feedback.azure.com/forums/34192--general-feedback
    Best regards,
    Susie
