Virtual PC 7; OS Installation(s)....

Hello everyone,
I have recently realized that Virtual PC7 can run other operating system's other than Windows. I came to this conclusion by the options provided in the process of adding an OS to the Virtual PC list; like Linux, DOS, UNIX, Unspecified etc... duh. Anyways, I want to instal OS 9.2.2, OS 9.2.1, OS 8.6, and OS 7. I am ok with Classic, however, there are some app's that I would rather use in an Emulator like Virtual PC or Q. Q is going to support OS9 installations however, it is unknown when they will ever get to version 1.0 . Can anyone help me in accomplishing my objectives? Thanks.

You can not use VPC which emulates an x86 processor to run OS 9.2.2, OS 9.2.1, OS 8.6, and OS 7.

    Regards,

    Hi all,
    I just checked the note 716927 again - it refers to note 1024539.
    That one says you should use SR7 and activate J9 technology
    so make sure you have the java version
    "J2RE 1.4.2 IBM AIX 5L for PowerPC (64 bit JVM) build
    caix64142ifx-20061222 (ifix 113727: SR7 + 112603)"
    and that the environment variable
    IBM_JAVA_OPTIONS=-Xj9
    is set for user <sid>adm
    After the installation, make sure that the JVM parameters are set as described in the note 1024539.
    By the way: it doesn't work if you use any other Java SDK (e.g. from Sun), as AIX has it's own one.
    Best regards,
    Cornelia

  • Virtual domains and their installation

    Hello again Alex,
    and anyone else able to enlighten me.
    Thank you all for your help the last time I was in need.
    I'm setting up Postfix by editing the postfix files directly without using server admin due to it's limitations. Especially since I'm using an external GW in a DMZ along with an internal server delivering the mail.
    And now I would like to add virtual domains using "Postfix virtual MAILBOX example: separate domains, non-UNIX accounts". Is this possible with OS X?
    I have read what is on postfix.org, I have read what is in Alex's installation guide but there are a few things I'm not getting.
    I've created the virtual domains and all that stuff but I'm not getting the creation of user access. Do you mean I actually need to create each and every user acessing mail in Workgroup manager?
    Could you point me to some information that bypasses the use of server admin but is still usefull in setting up mail under OS X. I don't want to use SA since I do not want to ruin my manual setup of the Postfix files.
    Kind regards
    Hans

    Are you then saying it would be easier to define the
    users in workgroup manager and use a couple of
    aliases for each user acessing mail?
    Definitely easier, but with the limitations you already know.
    Is it possible, using this method to use names like
    [email protected], [email protected] etc. rather than
    [email protected], [email protected] etc.
    Sure, just follow my tutorial.
    And when
    logging into the mailservice do I then have to use
    the full [email protected] as a user login name to
    access the virtual mailboxes?
    Yes, full name with domain.
    And is it correct to assume that when using the
    server for more than one domain I need to define the
    first as a local domain and the rest as virtual
    domains?
    Yes (if you want to have "hans" as a different user in each domain).
    Alex
    P.S. Just make a backup fo main.cf so you can copy paste changes that might get hosed by Server Admin. Once your setup is complete, adding users through WGM or aliases through /etc/postfix/virtual will not touch main.cf

  • Virtual server name OA11i installation vs. concurrent tier setup

    What is correct nodes and concurrent managers configuration if the OA installation was performed with virtual server name? There are some issues involving real hostname in the concurrent managers configuration and I'm just not sure what should be set in fnd_nodes (nodes definitions) and fnd_concurrent_queues (concurrent managers definitins) - real hostname or virtual name or both.

    I recently moved from single host per tier to multiple apps tier hosts w/ a virtual hostname. fnd_nodes contains all the nodes hostnames & the virtual host name, but some are probably not needed. fnd_concurrent_queues has the virtual host name, but I only run the concurrent managers on one host.
    Hope this helps.

  • Shared virtual disks and linux installation

    Dear all,
    when i add some shared virtual disk to the virtual machine and start the instsallation of oracle linux i face a major performance issue and the system takes a long time to boot and linux cd's and start the instsallation process, i don't know why this issue is happening to me but it is giving me alot of troubes. i had to buy a new machine with husge configuration to try oracle VM and i feel like i bought for no benifits at all
    your help will be appreciated/

    Avi,
    Actually, if you have one server HA would do nothing for you. You need at least two servers for HA to be useful.
    Also I would believe that since you only have one 500 gig drive I am sure it is a sata drive that you are using. That drive is running your Dom0 plus all other DomU's. The shared drive is a file on the filesystem under the /OVS directory your DomU system drive is a file on the /OVS filesystem. While your experience is still a little odd it would run but be really slow. You say that without the shared drive it runs OK so my first thought would be to drop the shared disk and recreate it since it sounds like you have nothing on it at this point in time anyway.
    Could be that the file for the shared disk became corrupt with something else you had done.

  • Virtual WLC 7.5 - installation problmes (Controller Crashed)

    Hi all,
    I am installing vWLC on VMware ESXi 5 and the controller crashes after the boot. Everybody has any similar issues?
    Thanks in advance.
    Remi

    Hi e-aguilar,
    Eventually I did not go for the 7.5 version, I still had troubles to install it. Instead I downloaded de version 7.4.110.0 (the AssureWave that has an elevated status from Cisco), probably with most fixes. Running now on 2GB RAM and supporting 76 APs over VPN. Works like a charm!

  • Clean installation of windows 8.1 pro on Thinkpad e550 activation problems.

    I have installed a SSD hard drive and need a clean instalations of windows for development using multiple platforms.
    My plan was to have a tri-boot on three partitions on a mbr formated drive.
    -Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit;
    -WIndows 8.1 Pro 32bit, and;
    -WIndows 7 Ultimate 64bit using downgrade rights.
    The following steps were used:
    1. Switching the hard drive and cloning the oem copy to the first partition;
    2. Activate windows getting the OEM key from the system (so I had no hardware changes);
    3.Use the anytime upgrade in the system properties to upgrade to pro;
    4.Clone the windows 7 OS from the old PC and place in on a partion;
    5.Download both install media for windows 8.1 Pro from MS Creating Install media;
    6. Create media as detailed here;
    7. Modify the install to allow entry of key after install as shown here because pro license and oem keys where not acepted during install;
    8.Went to BIOS. Turned on Legacy and disable secure boot;
    9.Install Windows 8.1 both versions, and;
    10. Repair boot to load all three OS.
    Good, Now I have all three OS installed all working. However, The pro product key will not activate the windows 8.1 pro and the oem key won't be acepted saying it is the wrong version of windows.
    So called MS activation line and they say i need to contact the OEM for activation and downgrade keys for 7 even though i paid for the upgrade through the MS store and the product was already activated once on the system.
    Questions:
    1. How can i activate the Windows 8.1 pro via Lenovo?
    2. How can I activate the Windows 7 copy under downgrade rights with Windows 8.1 pro?
    3. Am i missing something with the UEFI/BIOS? (Note:I need to use mbr not GPT format on the drive.)
    I have switch the UEFI mode/duel modes during install without success.

    "Is a Win 7 32 virtual client an option?"
    What VC are you using?
    I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed.  Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs.  VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
    It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try.  Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

  • Running SAP on Microsoft Virtual Servers

    Is anyone running SAP on Microsoft Virtual Servers?  If so, what has been your experience with this?  We are installing NetWeaver 2004s on three virtual servers (running on the same Physical Windows server). We are using the Microsoft Virtual Server software (not VM Ware).
    Thanks in advance for any information.

    Check Note 674851 - Virtualization on Windows:
    VMware, GSX Server, VMware workstation, Microsoft Virtual Server
    Due to their restriction to 32-bit, single CPU and host/guest operation, these virtualization products are not suitable for productive SAP applications.
    It may be advisable to use one of these products to operate non-production systems (demo systems, test systems, development systems and so on).
    I would not use Microsoft Virtual Server for productive installations, additionally, depending on the database used, it may or may not supported by the database vendor and thus also may or may not supported by SAP.
    In worst case you will need to reinstall the application on a non-virtualized environment and reproduce a problem there before SAP support will accept the problem.

  • Problems during installation of SAP NetWeaver 7.01 - ABAP Trial Version

    Anyone who has successfully installed this trail version?HELP HERE
    Please come up with some problems you faced during installation and the way you rectified those problems
    For e.g:
    Problem:
    'Partner' 127.0.0.1: sapdp00 'not reached WSAECONNREFUSED: Conection refused. "
    Solution:
    Points not a constraint for the right answer.Please provide the solution guys.

    Since the trial version is very sensitive regarding other software on the same system, I loaded it onto a clean installation of Windows Server 2003 within Microsoft Virtual PC. No installation problems ever since!
    It should be enough to provide the virtual machine with 0.5 GB of memory, but you'd better spare 2 or 3 GB for that...
    (This also has the nice side effect that it's reachable from the complete home network )

    Any ideas? I have seen the other posts but nothing seemed to be a solution. Another strange behavior that may (or may not) be related is that when I try to load the "Turn Windows features on or off" the box loads blank.

    Firstly, please read the following article on how to resolve the blank dialog box of “Windows Features”:
    The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, or you receive an error message that includes

  • Java CLDC Emulation (Java ME Dev Kit 3.0) installation problem

    Hi,
    I tried installing Java CLDC Emulation from Java ME Dev Kit 3.0 to two different devices and Windows Mobile 6 Professional Emulator with mixed results:
    - Installation on Sprint phone went fine and I can open 'Sun Java CLDC Emu' from Start->Programs
    - Installation on IPAQ110 & Windows Mobile 6 Professional Emulator went fine, however when I try to run it I get the following message:
    "The file 'sun_jwc' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file"
    I guess it has something to do with version of Windows since phone has Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and IPAQ&Emulator Windows Mobile 6 Classic.
    Can I just install some certificate into trusted store to make this work or Java CLDC Emulation from Java ME Dev Kit 3.0 works only with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional?

  • [solved] VSFTPD + Virtual Users + different home directories

    Hi All,
       I've been trying to get VSFTPD setup to allow ftp access to some of my clients to access their web files. I've got VSFTPD up and running via the Wiki, but my virtual users can't log in. The only thing that I didn't do from the wiki was the "useradd virtual" as I didn't think it was needed. Also, the wiki only covers one directory for all users, I want to have each user to have access to their own web directory and nothing else.  I think I may just have something a little off in my vsftpd file. Thanks!

    Hi GravityGripp,
       as posted at the beginning of the thread in /etc/vsftpd.conf the 'pam_service_name' option is 'vsftpd' but here you are referencing /etc/pam.d/ftp as PAM service name but in vsftpd.conf you told to use 'vsftpd' as PAM service for auth.
    About your need to define different directory for each ftp virtual user in my installation I allow ftp access to virtual users (defined in MySQL and auth  via pam_mysql); to let users have access to their own ftp directory (with different auth read only / read-write) I used the user_config_dir option (see man vsftpd.conf).
    Here an extract of my '/etc/vsftpd.conf':
    # This powerful option allows the override of any config option specified
    # in the manual page, on a per-user basis. Usage is simple, and is best
    # illustrated with an example. If you set user_config_dir to be /etc/vsftpd_user_conf
    # and then log on as the user "chris", then vsftpd will apply the settings
    # in the file /etc/vsftpd_user_conf/chris for the duration of the session.
    # Default: (none)
    user_config_dir=/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd-user-conf
    Each time I add a new ftp virtual user that need a personal ftp directory, under the dir '/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd-user-conf' I create a file named as the username where I define the personal ftp directory and the auth on it (RO or RW).
    Example for user 'test' (file '/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd-user-conf/test'):
    # vsftpd per-user basis config file (override of any config option specified
    # in the vsftpd server config file)
    # TEMPLATE
    # User test - Description for user test
    # Set local root
    local_root=/srv/vsftpd/test
    # Disable any form of FTP write command.
    # Allowed values: YES/NO
    write_enable=YES
    Of course the dir must exist and have the right permissions to allow the user to connect.
    Hope that this will be of help.
    bye

    Hi,
    This thread should help:
    http://communities.vmware.com/message/452844
    Prefer the shared folder mechanism for bigger files like dumps etc. Once copied, start the SAPInst to proceed with installation.
