Virtual PC 7 Quit Unexpectlly

Hi,
I have Virtual PC 7 installed on my PowerBook. With that I was able to install Windows 2000 on it and run it without any problems. However when I tried to open Preference under Virtual PC the program will quit without any warning. The next thing I know is OS X is asking me if I want to report this problem. I tried to remove and reinstall the program with latest update, but nothing seems working.
Does anyone have a idea how to fix this problem? I look into Microsoft's website but all they said is, this would happen to Intel based Mac, but not PPC based.
Jason

Since VPC is not an Apple product, I suggest you head toward the Microsoft Office:Mac forums found at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
That group is dedicated to user questions about MS Office:Mac applications, including VPC. You'll find more answers in that forum rather than an Apple forum dealing the usage of OS X.

  • Virtual PC- Keeps Quiting

My virtual pc won't work for some reason. I installed it, restarted it like it said and now when I click on the icon it "quits unexpectedly"~
Any idea why it's doing this? Will I ever be able to run it?

    Hi hanlier2;
There was never a version of Virtual PC made for the MacBook with the Intel processor. In order to run Windozes on the MacBook you need to run BootCamp or Parallels.

  • Inconsistent order in grid when creating Virtual Copies.

When I create a virtual copy of a photo and look at it with the stack expanded, the order that the two pics appear in the library grid is inconsistent. Sometimes the VC is listed AFTER the original in the grid, and sometimes it's listed BEFORE the original. When it's listed before the original, I've tried changing the stack "on top" setting, but this only changes which photo appears when the stack is collapsed -- the order when expanded stays the same.
I feel like I might be missing something here, i.e. is there some method of making a VC appear after vs before the original in the library grid? Also, is there a way to swap the order so that I can "fix" the situation? So far, the only fix I've found is to delete the VC and re-create it, at which point the order is sometimes corrected.
Thanks for any feedback on this,
    Larry

it might be that you have a filter in effect on "All Photographs" that prevents the VCs from being shown
Here's why I don't think that's my problem. I search and find an image - so yes I am using a filter - lets say I want file ABC123. Now I see that frame and I also see a Virtual Copy which I previously created. So clearly I don't have a any filter to prevent my seeing VCs. Now I select the Master and create a new Virtual Copy. The new copy does not appear but the Master reports it is now 1 of 3. So Lightroom is telling me there are three copies of this file, but only displays two, the Master and an older Virtual Copy.
All I have to do (!) to see the new Virtual Copy is quit and relaunch. Now I see all three copies, the Master, the older and the new VIrtual Copy. Nothing changes between quit and relaunch.
Even if "All Photographs" isn't a Smart Collection, is appears to have the same issue others have reported on creating Virtual Copies.

  • Line-in mic doesn't work; both preferences selected

I can't get a Line-in microphone to work on imovie VO, or elsewhere.
I've selected Line-in on both the Personal Preferences and the preferences on imovie.
And I've tried two different new microphone headsets.
Can someone please tell what I'm doing wrong?

    Pieter,
I'm not at my big Mac right now (..the one with iMovie '08..) and so I can't test things: I'm travelling with my G4 PowerBook laptop, and iMovie '08 isn't (..can't be..) installed on that. So I can't test this for you; sorry.
I don't remember having had a problem with audio input in iMovie '08, but maybe someone else can give you more info. (I think I've used a Saffire FireWire input device, and condenser mic, with iM'08, but can't remember the details right now.)
It may be that the 'GarageBand Fix' might help: go to GarageBand, play a few notes on a virtual instrument, then quit GB. That may reset the audio to its proper settings. And as Klaus1 always recommends.. "Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz."
I'm sorry that I can't presently help any more than that..

  • 80% CPU ???

What's wrong with Safari? It takes 80% of my CPU (2 GHz G5) even if there is not a single window open!
    Thanks for a hint
    Peter

I can't determine, or think of a reason why that may be occurring; however, I am having exactly the same issue as you on my Intel iMac - with Safari often running beyond 112% CPU usage on just one open window. If a page has to use Flash or a similar CPU taxing plugin, Safari becomes virtually unusable. Quitting, then re-opening often reduces the impact of Safari on the CPU; however, ten, or even just a few minutes into use - it's once again wildly out of control...
Peter; It's probably not the answer you're looking for - and is most likely something you have already given consideration to; but I'd suggest that for the time-being you use Firefox (which seems infinitely more stable) or try to roll back Safari to an older, more stable version. An update to fix the current problem may be some-time away.

  • Is it possible to import OVA templates into AWS EC2?

We've been up and running on oracle virtual server for quite some time and we're now looking at getting some of the instances into AWS.  Is this possible?  I've been playing around with the ec2 command line utilities without much luck.
If anyone has done it and can give me any pointers I'd greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks

I have never tried to open a .potx (mainly because I had never heard of it), so I don't know if Keynote will open it.
The only format that Keynote will open perfectly is a Keynote file. Keynote will open PP files, but you might have to do some editing/adjusting to make everything look right when you open it.

  • Pixelpost and Personal Web Sharing in Tiger

    Dear Friends:
I figured out how to install Pixelpost (for a photoblog) in my OS X Tiger system -- by using MAMP. I changed the Document Root in MAMP so that now it looks to the Personal Web Sharing folder in the Mac (the Sites folder in the /usr/ space). The installation of Pixelpost works fine, letting me add images, manage it, etc. However, when I type in the computer address ("personal website") as provided in the Sharing tab under system preferences, it does not bring me at all to the photoblog. For instance:
http://my.computer.address/ (just brings me to the regular Apache Server notice that it is running)
    if I type this:
    http://my.computer.address/~username/
It brings me to the generic OS X page in place. But when I type:
    http://my.computer.address/~username/pixelpost/
it opens to the pixelpost directory which I placed in the Sites folder. What I'd like to do is figure out what address will call up this blog so that others can access it.
The blog comes up fine under this URL:
    http://localhost:8888/pixelpost/
But that's not a proper address for external viewing. So, what address should I provide others? I've tried various configurations with the address provided in the Sharing tab of System Preferences, but no luck so far.
    Thanks!
    N

I changed the Document Root in MAMP so that now it looks to the Personal Web Sharing folder in the Mac (the Sites folder in the /usr/ space
I think you mean /Users/ space. /usr is something completely different.
http://my.computer.address/ (just brings me to the regular Apache Server notice that it is running)
Then it means you didn't change the DocumentRoot like you think you did. If you did, and assuming you restarted Apache after changing the DocumentRoot, then this URL would point to whatever directory you specified (/Users/whoever/Sites) and not /Library/WebServer/Documents.
But [http://localhost:8888/pixelpost> is not a proper address for external viewing.
but it can be. If all you're using this for is PixelPost then just setup the port forwarding on your router to forward to port 8888 rather than port 80 and you're done.
Now, that said, the fact that you're using two different ports here (port 80 and port 8888) means that, at the very least, you are running two virtual hosts, or quite possibly two completely separate Apache instances.
That could explain why changing the DocumentRoot doesn't help. You may have changed either the PixelPost VirtualHost configuration, or the MAMP-specific server configuration, but that's not the server/virtualhost you're talking to on port 80.
I've never used MAMP, so I don't know how it installs, but it wouldn't surprise me to find that it installs a whole new Apache distribution and you'd need to find that server and its configuration files to fix the DocumentRoot problem, if that's the way you want to go.
You can also fix it via a simple Alias in the standard Apache configuration - just alias /pixelpost to /Users/whoever/sites/pixelpost - that way users who hit /pixelpost on your server will get the User-specific directory, while all other URLs continue to be served via /Library/WebServer/Documents. This might improve security and avoid the possibility of leaking other content from your home directory that you don't want to make available.

  • Problems converting a 2008 R2 server into a Hyper-V environment.

    Hello.
I have a 2008 R2 Standard server running on a IBM 3650 M4 platform and I wish to convert this to a vm so that I can run this in my Hyper-V environment, but I'm running into some trouble as I do so.

started is a blinking prompt in top left corner.
The Hyper-V manager is running on a 2012 R2 Standard.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You can do P2V (esp. for test & development) but for true production workload you'd better provision your VMs from scratch. If you still need that particular VM P2V'ed then make sure you re-boot in in service mode to initiate storage and network stacks
drivers set re-build as physical and virtualized hardware are quite different.
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Question on Solaris NIC interface names

    Hello,
I've installed RAC on a two node Sparc Solaris cluster using Oracle clusterware. One node is amodel V240 and the other is a T2000. I've found that Solaris names the NIC interface by the chipset soI have two different interface names. When I try to startup from srvctl the VIP on node two does not start as I think it is expecting the node 2 interface name to be the same as node on. Has anyone else running on Sparc Solaris ran into this? What was your Solution?
    Thanks for the help.
    Jeff

    Hello Rodrigo,
It does not appear that the Virtual Interface will quite accomplish what I need, or at least I'm doing something wrong. My interface on node1 is bge0 and e1000g0 on node 2.
    ifconfig -a

    ether 0:14:4f:cb:9b:7c
When I issue the following to create the bge0 alias on node 2 it doesn't work.
    ifconfig bge0 172.31.74.149 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
ifconfig: SIOCGLIFNETMASK: bge0: no such interface
Any idea as to what I am doing wrong?

  • Time Machine slow, bogging down computer.

I am having problems with Time Machine backups taking forever and, at the same time, bogging down my computer to the point I cannot use it.
For example, a 70MB backup yesterday took almost 5 hours. a 500MB one today is on hour 5 and still going. I have it set to back up while I'm at work (it's my home computer) but when I get home and it's still going I cannot use my computer at all without cancelling the backup due to lag, spinning beachballs, and apps crashing.
The hard drive it's backing up to is a 1TB Iomega drive connected via USB with 500 gigs of free space currently. I've got a 2011 MacBook Pro running 10.8.5, 500gig hard drive with 70 gigs free. I have run backups with my normal apps running and with virtually all apps quit, including Finder and Dropbox, which doesn't seem to effect the time spent backing up. I do not have any virus scanners running. I've tried different USB cables in case it's a faulty cable. I have gone through Pondini's guide dozens of times, nothing's helped.
Do you guys have any more suggestions? I dream of the days long past where Time Machine would work in the background and I'd never notice it. Backing up is now an all-day ordeal with nothing else able to happen in the meantime. I'd like it to do it's hourly back-ups and get away from using TImeMachineEditor to only do daily back-ups, but I can't have my computer unusable every time it tries to back up.
Also, somewhat related; I tried to update my back-up drive to a 2TB Western Digital and to a 1.5TB partition on a 3TB Western Digital drive but was unable to get Time Machine to complete a back-up to either drive; it kept crashing and burning at various stages. I had followed Pondini's guide to the letter with formatting them yet never got anywhere. That's why I'm using my older, smaller drive; it's the only one I can successfully get to back up. Any thoughts on that?

Sherri39401- I am not running any sort of anti-virus.
Eric Root- I tried the reset of Time Machine. If anything it's worse; took 10 hours to do a 11 gig backup, then right after it was on hour 4 of a 28MB transfer and was only halfway through.

  • How do I uninstall VM fusion

How have been running VM Fusion and Windows XP on my macbook, but want them off.  I am a Mac Convert. How do I uninstall these programs?

A little googling turned up the foillowing instructions (not sure which version of vmware these go with):
    To uninstall VMware Fusion:
    1. Power off all running virtual machines, and quit VMware Fusion.
    2. In the Finder, open the folder Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion, and double-click Uninstall Vmware Fusion.
    3. When you are prompted to confirm, click Uninstall.
    4. Enter your administrative password to begin the uninstallation.
When the uninstallation is complete, a confirmation message is displayed.

  • Mail.app grabs more and more virtual memory... then quits

    Hello all,
I'm running OS X 10.4.8, and Mail.app 2.1 and I recently had trouble with my internet connection (Verizon's fault). Now that I'm back up and running, Mail.app takes over my computer.
After I launch Mail, it seems to read my mail off the server okay, and shows it in the right window, but I get that spinning grey circle next to the icon for "inbox" (I normally see this whenever I'm checking mail), but the circle never stops spinning.
After noticing that my computer becomes slow as molasses, I was able to watch what was happening via the Activity Monitor utility. Mail.app starts out with about 100 Mb of Virtual Memory, but this number goes up, and keeps on going up. By the time it gets to 2 Gb Mail eventually quits "unexpectedly." But the whole time I've lost the ability to use the computer (even the mouse pointer hangs, I can't even point to the Dock, etc).
This behavior happens even when I unplug the computer from the internet (ethernet).
I've tried repairing permissions, but that had no effect. So now I'm left to only check mail using the mac.com website.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Chett.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Also, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
How many accounts do you have and what type are they (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
Do you have any Mail plug-ins installed? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/

  • Virtual PC 6 keeps on unexpectedly quitting in OS X 10.3.9

    Hi,
My iMac which is running OS X 10.3.9 and has Virtual PC with Windows 98SE keeps on unexpectedly quitting everytime I launch Windows in it. I used to work fine.
    Thanks

According to Microsoft, VPC 6.1 requires at least a 500MHz factory-installed G3 processor. No minimum RAM is specified, because that varies with which version of Windoze you run in VPC, but both VPC and OS X always benefit from extra RAM. Since you have none beyond the bare minimum required by OS X, you can expect VPC to be slow if it runs at all on your 400MHz iMac. If you try to run a large, RAM-hungry application within VPC, that may exacerbate matters further — but I don't pretend to understand how Windoze applications' memory needs are managed when VPC runs inside OS X.

  • Hello I am getting some nasty popups on safari. looks like malware. virtually all menus on safari are frozen out. Search with firefox and followed some directions to use the activity monitor to force quit these processes and it was no use.

malware on safari. tried activity monitor > force quit but they just popped back up. Please help.

wow thanks holding down the shift key worked. Is there anything else I should do know?
The problem wasn't in quitting safari but everyone time I opened it, that crap would pop up. Should I be able to use it now without holding down shift?
