Virtual PC: enable integration features demands domain credentials

I've set up a vm and installed Vista.  I've installed the integration components.  When I try to enable integration features, I get prompted to login.  The host PC is on a domain.  The vm is not on the domain, but the only options the
login presents is to supply domain credentials.  If I cancel, the integration features remain disabled.  I am trying to share a drive on the host with the guest OS.  Is there a way to solve this without adding the guest to the domain?
FWIW, I have an XP vm (not the XPMode VM but another one I created from scratch) that I was somehow able to manipulate into getting the integration features to work.  To the best of my recollection, after clicking cancel, it would prompt me
for a local login.  It would not allow me to log in with the local account until I created a password for it.  After that, I could cancel the prompt for domain credentials, satisfy the prompt for local credentials and the drive I was trying
to share would show up in Windows explorer.  This has since stopped working and now behaves identically to the Vista VM (cancelling prompt for domain credentials results in nothing being shared).
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks!

Hi,
I set up a same workaround like you, a host machine in a domain, and I install vista sp1 Enterprise(not join the domain), and try to enable integration. The credentials
prompted to login. I just input the username(local user)and password, install successes.
That’s needn’t to login with the domain user.
Hope that will help you.

  • Virtual XP Mode Asks for Password after "Could not enable Integration features

With Win7 64 bit professional as the main OS I installed the VM XP Mode several years ago and occasionally when XP is booting up, it asks for a password for the username XPM User. I have never setup passwords for Win 7 or for XP so that the PC simply boots
up into first the Win 7 and then I can choose to boot straight into XP if I wish. On the occasions that XP asks for a password, I have simply closed down and rebooted successfully. Over the past two days I have received a dialog box telling me that the integration
features could not be enabled and on closing that dialog box, I am being asked for a password - which does not exist! As a result, I cannot access the personal finance application that I 've been using for the past 15 years. This is the only application I
run on XP and is the reason the virtual machine is in use.
I read through the existing posts on "could not enable integration features" and none seem to offer much of a solution to me. There is no .vsv file.
How do I access the files that are stored for use with XP?
How can I create a password that XP will accept?

    Hi,
When finding the .vsv file, have you unchecked the show hidden files option? Go Control Panel | Folder Options | View and uncheck the option to "hide extensions of known file types" and also enable showing hidden files and folders.  The file type is
Virtual Machine Saved State. If it exists, please delete it and restart the XPmode.
Regarding the password issue, have you checked those two threads?
the integration features could not be enabled
Removed XP Mode password in Windows 7 and now cant login
The suggestions is to enter safe mode and make a password reset OR reinstall the intergration features. Please take a check with more suggestions offerred by the folks here.
If the above is not working, then we may consider to backup important files with XPM VHD file via Disk management, and then reinstall Windows XP mode.

  • Windows XP mode Can't enable integration features

I noticed there are so many threads on this and all the discussions confuse the hell out of me.
Here's how it happened for me: I install Virtual PC, then install Windows XP mode. The VM boots up fine, everything is smooth, I can access my C drive from the VM and run an XP program as if it's operating from my host Win7 machine.
But I have to change the network settings so my bandwidth monitor which doesn't work on Win7 will recognize my host machine's traffic and log it. That requires a restart of XP mode. I do that and that's how this error happens. Now I can't enable integration
features no matter what I do.
I've followed steps in other threads. I deleted the .vsv file, set it to auto shut down or turn off instead of hibernate. The "Enable Integration features" button is greyed out. That cryptography FIPS thing or whatever it is is ALREADY disabled,
always has been. That didn't work for me.
Can anybody help me fix this?

Well, with all the minutia in your post it was difficult to decipher exactly what your were after.

    That better?
Either way, I fixed the problem by reinstalling XP Mode.

  • Windows XP Mode - Could not enable integration features

Hello!  Let me start off with saying that I'm not very computer savvy, so please be gentle!  :)
So here my problem.  I have scoured forums all morning looking for a solution and have tried many things and nothing has worked yet.  I have Windows 7 Pro.  I use the Windows VM to run in XP mode so my small business programs will
operate correctly.  This morning VM would not open.  I click to open Windows VM, it take unusually long to attempt to open.  After 5 or so minutes error message - Could not enable integration features with details stating .  It gives me
an option to retry or continue.  When I hit retry, it does so but the ending result is the same error message.  When I click continue it states the operation has failed - the VM is not running.
    What I HAVE tried-
    -Reboot
-Clicked start>windows virtual pc>open windows virtual pc>right click settings
              - From this point I have tried to shut down from the close option as well as uncheck enable integration features at start up. Status is in Hibernation and has not changed.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank You

Bob, I have read as much as I can find on this problem (Enabling Integration Features and having it remain enabled), and your responses are the most straight forward, complete and seem to have helped a number of others. So, I'm adding to this discussion,
instead of starting a new discussion, so that I can get YOUR response.
I am running Windows 7 Professional on a Dell Precision M6500 laptop with an Intel Core i7 processor and 8 Gb of memory.  When I first setup the laptop I installed Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode, after downloading from the Microsoft.com
website.  While the installation went without an error, getting to use it was a major, and long problem.  I have one (very) old planner software app that I've been using since the mid 1980s. Being somewhat stubborn, I refused to change to a newer
app. So, I installed the app under XP Mode (it doesn't run under Windows 7) and it worked fine.  I then tried to setup the printer and the Guest PCs drives (some USB).  I followed the Microsoft instructions and suggestions I found in forums.
I finally gave up and called and paid for Microsoft tech support.  Many weeks and we finally got it working - was able to print to my wireless printer from XP Mode and was able to backup my data to the Host PCs USB drives (I make three copies of the data
on a daily basis, so I actually have 21 copies of the data after a week).  When we got it working I never had a problem with Enabling Integration Features, before it would disable Integration Features after I enabled them, repeatedly.  Then a Windows
7 upgrade hung - 8 hours and the PC hadn't shut down.  I powered off the PC and then powered back up.  I got a blue screen error about CPU being too hot and the PC shut down. It was no hotter than usual. Powered up again and all seemed fine, until
I went to start XP Mode and my planner.  XP Mode was trashed, wouldn't start.  Tried to reinstall and still had the same problem.  So, another call to Microsoft Tech support and another fee. Interestingly, the fellow that I worked with this
time as a level higher and knew the first tech I worked with.  A few days and XP Mode was back running and the environment was actually as it had been when the PC crashed (the VHD file was still there and had my original environment - settings, programs,
printer and drive mappings - all in place, this file is in the same location as the VSV file).
Long winded background to my current, repeated problem. Integration Features will no longer stay enabled.  While I don't recall a "crash" or "hung" PC, my notes are all in that planner app in XP Mode and I can't get to it.  So,
I uninstalled VPC and XPM and reinstalled from scratch. Reinstalled my planner app, configured and tested my printer and host drives (didn't map them, just access them from My Computer).  Suddenly (as I said, I can't recall anything going wrong to trigger
the repeat of this problem) Integration Features will not enable.  I've deleted the VSV file and the problem still exists. Just "Shutdown" XP Mode and 50 Windows XP updates were installed.  Then installed 48 updates. It worked for one afternoon and
evening. Booting the laptop this morning and Integration Features again is unstable. One more Windows update was installed.  Then I followed your suggested steps:
Delete the" Windows XP Mode.vsv" file in the folder
    C:\users\[your user name]\appdata\microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines.
That should then allow XP Mode to start correctly.
Have you uninstalled, rebooted XP, and reinstalled the Integration Components?  All of this occurs in XP Mode not on Win7.
    1. Uninstall the Integration Components in XP Mode from Add/remove programs
    2. Reboot XP Mode
    3. Reinstall the Integration Components in XP Mode from WVPC menu.
The laptop is also in the same Workgroup as the Host PC and all the other PCs on my LAN.
    Any suggestions?
Where can I find the following folders from XP Mode on the Host PC:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Documents
    C:\Documents and Settings\XPMUser\My Documents
I created folders in both with the backed up data and programs from my planner app and would like to have access to them from the Host PC.
I'm just about at the point of abandoning XP Mode and looking for an alternative Virtual Machine app, just using Outlook, or getting the Outlook app from the original software provider of my planner app.  All of these options are less
than ideal, but Microsoft's XP Mode has also become less than ideal.
    TIA
    Neil Cook

  • XP Mode integration Feature will no longer enable

Everything has been running smoothly with XP Mode.  I run a number of legacy programs which require XP.  I fianlly figured out yesterday how to print to LPT1 from these programs and configured my printers accordingly.  I had too many browser
windows open, so I figured I'd do a complete shutdown and restart to clean things up.  When the system re-booted and I tried XP Mode, I was informed that the integration features could not be enabled.  The enable button is greyed out under tools
and install only allows removal.  I don't know if that will rquire a complete reinstall of everything in XP mode or not.  I really don't want to do that again (long story).  MY OS in Windows 7, Pro SP1 running XP mode on a Lenovo X220T.
I use ConfigSafe in combination with system resotre to do quick backups of important stuff and reverting to the setup 2 days ago, when all was well with the world, didn't change a thing.  Any ideas?   Tried erasing Windows Mode.vsv and no effect.
Tried clicking setup on the virtual CD, same thing, removal option only.

This editor sucks, I'll try again. Problem solved. While this post has primarily been a discussion with myself, two folks did suggest the same item which didn't work. I have fixed the problem. For those with similar issues who have looked for a resolution,
but have had no luck as I did(n't) then here goes. Original problem: lost Integration Feature for XP mode.
other factors: erasing the Windows XP Mode.vhs file does nothing deleting the Virtual PC works, but accomplishes nothing. XP Mode would not uninstall (looking for xpminstl64.msi or u which did
not exist) downloading and trying to "overinstall" both of the preceding didn't work either HOWEVER, I went to the "Documents and Settings\(my name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines directory and erased the existing virtual pc drive
labeled "Windows XP Mode (1?).vhd. When I clicked on XP Mode which I hadn't been able to remove from the Programs directory, it offered to set up a new machine and off I went.  I really hope this helps the next person who will undoubtedly experience this
problem. I think I'll copy it down so I remember the next time it blows up (seems to be a condition with Windows 7). I wasn't able to find anything useful with Google or search within this forum. Granted I didn't go though a couple of hundred items, but after
quite a few, declared the cause hopeless. I'm going to submit this now and declare it an answer or fix or whatever. Good luck all.  Sorry about all the bold underlining, I can't seem to find a button to turn it off.

  • Installing Acrobet diabled the Integration Features of the Virtual XP-Mode in Windows 7 Professional

Installing Acrobet diabled the Integration Features of the Virtual XP-Mode in Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit. Does anyone know of a work around so the integration features can remain enabled in the Virtual XP-Mode? I now have Acrobat installed in the Virtual XP Mode and the Integration Features are enabled and working as intended. However, it is cumbersome to work in the XP Mode and then transfer the work to the reular mode.

There are patches available from Microsoft that remove the hardware virtualization requirement, you don't need anything from HP for it. You will find them in the XP Mode sections of the MS web site.
Keep in mind that XP Mode is for Win7 Professional and Ultimate, the Home and Home Premium versions do not support it.

  • Weblogic Domain Credentials integration

    Hi,
Could any of you please tell me if there are any best practices in integrating
different weblogic domains across the enterprise.
    Here is the scenario...
If my enterprise has 10 different weblogic domains (say each having one managed
instance), and each domain needs to interact with all the other domain (say through
JMS), how can we have the domain trust set between all these different domains.
To complicate the issue, we have diffrent versions of weblogic (say 6.1 and 7.0).
    Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Sri

    Thanks for your reply.
I have looked for the PathTrim option, but it only applies when I want to trim a part of the url forwarded from Apache to Weblogic, right?
What I want to do is that Weblogic itself trims a part of urls that it generates when processing jsps.

  • SCCM 2012 MDT 2012 UDI Require domain credentials to run task sequence

We are in the process of moving to SCCM 2012 integrated with MDT 2012 for OSD from using MDT 2012 by itself. We're trying out UDI task sequences and have noticed a pretty gaping hole in functionality vs MDT 2012 by itself: password protecting a task sequence.
In MDT 2012 there was a built-in feature that required domain credentials to run a task sequence. If one exists using SCCM/MDT 2012, I haven't been able to find it. I've only found stuff like this http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/2336-password-protect-a-task-sequence/ which
would allow you to set a password, but not authenticate against AD. So, I'm wondering if there are any options to protecting a task sequence with domain authentication?
My understanding is that the Refresh and Replace StageGroup only run when you kick off a UDI task sequence in Windows. That means I have to make a task sequence available to the Configuration Manager Client in order for a tech to run a Refresh/Replace. And,
that in turn means that the UDI task sequence will be visible to all users since it needs to be available to their computer. Or, am I completely missing how UDI OSD should flow?  If so, then I hope someone can correct me.
I'd appreciate any help or advice you can give. Thanks.

    Hi,
I am sorry to say that you are correct in your conclusions. There is no builtin way in ConfigMgr/MDT/UDI to require a domain username/password to run a task sequence, your option from Windows-noob.com is one way of solving it.

Thanks for the info. What about workflow? How do you usually handle UDI in Replace and Refresh scenarios? Do you deploy the task sequence to collections that users can access?

  • Reporting services integration feature not available in 2010 experience mode site collection.

I have a 2013 SP farm with SQL reporting services 2012 configured. When I create a site collection using the 2010 experience mode, I don't see the "Reporting Services Integration" feature under site collection features. However this feature is
available when I create a site collection in 2013 experience mode. Is there a way I can activate the "Reporting Services integration" feature in a site created in 2010 experience mode? I am not able to activate the feature on a 2010 experience mode
    site collection using PowerShell either.

    Hi,
From your description, When you create a site collection using the 2010 experience mode, the "Reporting Services Integration" feature is missed. However this feature is available when you create a site collection in 2013 experience mode.
For your issue, whether your 2010 experience mode site collection is in the same web application with the 2013 mode site collection. if not,  make sure the web application which contains the 2010 site collecction have been
    enabled ssrs service,
Go to CA->Application Management->Manage web applications-Choose the web application->Click Service Connections->Check SSRS, refer to the screenshot:
Besides, I suggest you create a new 2010 mode site collection with the same tempalte and the same web application with 2013 mode site collection, compare the results.
Also you can upgrade you 2010 mode site collection to the 2013 mode and compare the results.
    Hope it helps.

    Hello All,
I just had a general question on one of the options for permission levels in sharepoint. There's one called "Use Client Integration Features":

  • Essentials 2012 R2 Exchange Integration with Multiple Domain Controllers

Attempting to integrate Exchange Server 2012 with the Essentials wizard results in the error message: "This task must be performed on the domain controller." I've found several threads that speculate this is because there are multiple domain controllers
in the domain. Is there a workaround or patch available to resolve this issue? Why wouldn't Microsoft want the redundancy of multiple DCs?
    Thanks.

    Hi HartmannTek,
    I agree with Robert.
We can get the following information from the article:
Services Integration Overview for Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials - Part 1. Please refer to.
Currently, the Services Integration features, including Windows Azure Active Directory integration, Office
365 integration, Windows Intune integration, and on-premises Exchange integration, are only supported in a single domain controller environment. In addition, the integration wizard must be run on a domain controller.
    Hope this helps.

  • Logging on to Win 8.1 workstation with domain credentials

    Hi All.
I been on Windows 8 Pro(now 8.1 update 1) for over a year now. Until now, I've always logged on to my workstation with my MS account. I recently decided to join my workstation to a domain where the Primary DC is running Server 2008 r2. I joined the domain
without a hitch, but when I try to log on to the workstation using domain credentials, the logon screen seems to insist on a MS account. It wants user name to be in email form only. When I tried to use my domain credentials in that format ([email protected])
it told me that the password is wrong and I should make sure to use my MS account password.
I tried disconnecting my MS account from my local account, but it didn't help.
    Any ideas?

I'm not sure if what you are doing is supported, to have a local MS sign-in account as well as a corporate domain account residing side by side, you might have to give up your MS sign-in and use a local ID for the domain logon to work
you may however consider setting this up using the Workplace Join feature in 8.1 which should work much better
