Virtual Photo Book problem

hi all,,,
New to adobe i am trying to create digital/virtual Book type Photo Albums ,, not necessary to print out but more to view in a book like fashion on a pc.
The first project is a wedding album to save to file (or CD) and distribute to friends and family.
Its taken me about 3 weeks and i still havnt really started yet,,,
Heres what ive tried so far,,,
I first tried this using iPhoto ,,, creates a nice book, easily ,,, but only option to get it on disc is as a pdf, which didnt carry across all the background formatting ,,, bummer
Next tried Powerpoint 2007, this can create a slideshow type photobook and even run without all of powerpoint from a cd,,, sounds good ,, but very limited templates to do what i trying to do ,, also ,, seems i would end up with a very large file rather quickly
next,, spend a Lotttt of time sifting through Adobes confusing mirage of software, and i know have "photoShop Elements installed !!!
Heres my problems in Elements,,,
I did a trial run at creating a OnLine Album,,, I think this is the Way to Go ,,, verygood ,,,Buttt,,,
Problem 1,,, in 'Change template' i dont see a suitable template,,, close but not one i want ,,, can any one give info on where i can get ' Book Type Template' (Addin?) to use here ,,, similar to those in iPhoto
Next,, i choose the 'Export to CD/dvd option ,, all seems to go onto the CD ok ,,,, yet when i try to play the CD ,,, Macroedia FlashPlayer 8 opens but ,, i just get little square pics of a Flower,, like cards stacking ,, as though its timing out something ,,,, Thats it,,,
,, i just want a good quality 'Coffee table type PhotoAlbum ,, On my PC not the Coffee table

ps; i contacted adobe re the Book type Templates and they said they are available on the Kodak sight ,,,, hmmm ,,, all i could se there was templates to purchase (thats fine) ,, but still only for there Book ordering Service ,, Not for digital,,,,

The photobook which gets created in Photoshop Elements can only be saved as a .pse or pdf. So your problem remains, What you can try is creating Collages with your images. The option to create collages is present under the Create tab in Editor, Then save them and create a slideshow using these collages as the images, Slideshow option is present under the Create tab in Organizer.

Photo book uploading problem

I have created a photo book in Elements 7 and cannot get it to upload to Kodak. My OS is Windows 7 and I am using Noton 360 security software. I make it through the ordering of the photo book and the uploading seems to go to completion, approximately 20 minutes for the 568MB file, but then after a pause I get a pop up message saying "There was a problem with your internet connection. Please check that there is not a firewall blocking Photoshop Elements from accessing the internet and that you have an internet connection." My ISP is Verizon FiOS, I've checked the connection speed and have experienced no other internet access problems. I have my firewall set to allow PE7 to access the internet without restriction, and have also tried uploading with the firewall disabled with the same result. I contacted Adobe support and even agreed to the $30 charge, but they said this wasn't a Photoshop problem. Kodak says if they don't receive the upload it isn't their problem. I would really like to get this photo book printed (daughter's college graduation).

Thanks for the update, Bob. While I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue with Kodak, I still feel there is something on my end that is not right. I just tried to order additional copies of a photobook we did a couple of years ago (43 pages, 147mb). The upload process took just 10 minutes but failed with the same error message. This was a photobook we had successfully ordered from Kodak before, using PE6 running on an older computer with a slower internet connection.
You mentioned internet bandwidth as a determining factor, using a faster connection as a possible solution. I have a Verizon FIOS 20/5 connection, periodically test my download/upload speeds, and that's pretty much what I get. I had reasoned that since PE7 takes like 20 minutes to upload a 300MB file there must be something else going on. Btw, there was one particular upload speed test I just tried that failed,"probably due to a hardware or software firewall blocking the FTP protocol the test uses". I was also not able to run this test successfully with the Norton firewall temporarily disabled. Does the PE7 photobook upload utility use an FTP protocol?

Right in the middle of the process of creating a hardcover photo book, a message came up, telling me: This theme is no longer available in iPhoto. Please choose: Delete book / Cancel / Change Theme. No matter what I select. What`s the problem???

No matter what option I select- iPhoto either crashes or the beachball starts spinning. Either way, I can`t access the photo book anymore.
Is there anything I can do?
The selected theme is definitely still available in iPhoto, so this can`t be the real problem...
I have been sitting on the book work for days...

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
     User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help   launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does then a reinstall of iPhoto is warrented.
If the problem does not appear in the test library then your current library is damaged. In that case make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I've made a photo book, but ordering this iPhoto crashes and I have to reopen the program; done this several times and each time uploading the 3rd page (of 86) it crashes again. My software is up to date (9.2.1), so that is not the problem.

Try boot into Safe Mode and try again.

Getting rid of problem photo book

I started work on a new photo book in iPhoto.
After a few pages it started to crash every time I open it the book.
Even right click on book name the application crashes so I can't delete that way.
Any suggestions how I recover?
How can I delete the book and start again??

I was busy adding a second full page map to my iPhoto Book.
Could that have caused the crash?
Is their guidance to have only one map per book??
It is not the number of maps, that is causing this, but one particular map theme. For me the crashes started, when I connected the locations by arrows to show the route, the same as AnnaRoosendaal posted: Re: iPhoto crashing one specific Book Project
I would test in a second iPhoto Library, just created for testing, which map theme is working for you and lets you add arrows without crashing. Only then use the map in your main library on your new book. Make frequent backups of your iPhoto library, i.e. before you add a map to the book.

Whenever I want to send my photo book i get the message that the shop is currently not available? how long does this last? any troubleshooting? Who can help? I would like to have the books for xmas

It does seem you have tried most of the things that help other users.
Although you do not say which iMac you use, as I understand your post, yours has a built-in iSight. If that is correct, when you look in System Profiler and click the following items:
you should see your camera information. If not, your iMac likely needs professional service. Before you go to see your Apple Service Technician, you can consider any of the following items that you think might be relevant. Although some of the following are not a remedy for no iSight in System Profiler, they might help you or other readers who can see their built-in USB iSights in System Profiler but are still experiencing the "camera in use" error.
Do you use the "Mirror" widget in Dashboard? That is one application that people sometimes forget might be running.
If you use an HP printer/scanner, check the suggestion in this post by parkersal.
If you have not yet tried all relevant suggestions in How to Troubleshoot iSight, do so now. Be sure to check whether the problem is application specific as well as user specific.
I understand that you have already reset the SMC, but, if the reset and other Troubleshooting suggestions you perform now do not correct your problem, you can try the following:- Repair permissions.
- Then download and apply the appropriate combo updater for your iMac:
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (iNtel) or
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC)
- Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight and System Profiler again.Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates, but if your iSight still does not show in System Profiler, I think you should see your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
Please let us know what it takes to get sorted.

Problems creating Shutterfly Photo Book with PSE 9

Has anyone run across this problem. Searched the forum here, and nothing has come up. Created a photo book using the Elements 9 organizer. Selected the order button, it saved the files, transferred them, then opened a Shutterfly window to complete the order. Single Image that Shutterfly would show was the cover to center the title page image in a center cut space on the cover. The image looked compressed and not centered. Exited the program, re centered the image and selected order again. Same result, image looked centered but compressed. Went to the Shutterfly website in make sure that images were not compressed like that (since it saves your project under your profile). Instead found that some pages were correct, and some (like the title page) took an entire page that I made in Elements and compressed it into a single frame of a three framed picture page, for example. The whole project is a total mess! I'm just glad I looked on the Shutterfly site before pressing the purchase button and paying $30 for a book to be delivered looking like that! Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I pretty much used all of the prompts in elements to create the book, and since Shutterfly is supposed to be seamlessly integrated into this, I thought it would work without problems. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. Thanks,

In the iPhoto preferences verify that yo have the correct print products country selected.
Do you have any firewire software such as Little Snitch?

You have Acrobat Pro on your system. It will try to open PDFs, and of course it will fail. You must uninstall it. Then, you will need a PDF reader. So install Adobe Reader. That seems quite simple, but perhaps something is wrong. If anything goes wrong with these two steps (1) uninstall Acrobat Pro (2) install Adobe Reader, then please let us know the details.

Problem to print a photo book

from several months I am tring to buy a photo book made with IPhoto 5.0.4.
Everytime there is an error uploading a file. Even if click retry. I have check the network connection, no problem. I would like very much buy this book. I live in Italy, there isn't a support.
Somebody can help me?
Do you know an alternative way to buy?
For example sending a CD or with a printable pdf?

I have the same problem. Similarly to another entry here, be very careful about how many times you reattempt it. I did it several times, hoping it would work out a kink, and it was on an expensive order, now there are over $2000 of "temporary authorizations" depleting my available credit on my card, and it's been that way for almost a week now.
I am living overseas, and am unfortunately restricted to dial-up internet to upload this, and it either gets stuck at 64kb/8Mb or just jumps right to 8/8Mb, when there is nothing wrong with the my internet connection.
I emailed Apple in response to the order cancellation email, and stated that perhaps it was the army firewall I'm behind, asking for the site the program connects to in an attempt to unblock the site if it's inadvertently getting blocked on my end. When they replied they said it's a technical issue and that I can call Apple to talk with someone, where they will determine how much the call will cost. That's outrageous to have something brand new, and have to pay for them to help you on an issue that truly may be as simple as giving out a website.
In response to an earlier reply, I am using iPhoto 5.0.4, and I just purchased my G5 back in October. Is there a later version to iLife that I'm not finding?
If anyone finds help with this issue, I would greatly appreciate some tips!

Problem with photo book

I'm trying to buy a photo book I just created and though I've done this a few times before without a problem, now it's giving me a hard time. When I click "Buy Book," I receive a message that says: A connection could not be established at this time.
This is clearly a lie, as I am typing this message...Is this an Apple glitch that's being worked on? Any ideas?

Could you please be more specific? Where would I find the location? And what would I change it to? When I select preferences...which tab is it under?
Also, I have created calendars etc. in the past and never had a problem...

Problem with photo book created in Aperture 3

Hi everyone,
I am in a bit of a bind and would greatly appreciate any help ASAP!
I ordered a hard-cover photo book that was created in Aperture 3. When previewing the order, we noticed that the photo for the cover of the book was missing (though it appeared on the dust jacket). Tried various things to fix this but then read something in the forums that the photo would not be printed on hard-cover books, only on the dust jacket. So we went ahead and placed our order...
Today (3 business days after the order was made) we received an email from Apple:
"Dear Apple customer,
When your order W313537357 was submitted to Apple, an error caused an image file for your print product to contain an empty frame on the cover. As a result, Apple is unable to process your order and you will not be charged.
If you would like to resubmit your order, we recommend these steps:
1. Use Software Update to install the latest version of Aperture or iPhoto and Mac OS X. For more details on using Software Update, refer to: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1338
2. Close all open applications
3. Open iPhoto or Aperture and preview your order. For instructions on how to preview your order, refer to: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040
4. If you are satisfied with the Preview, return to iPhoto and click “Buy.” For Aperture users, return and click “Continue”
We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience."
We have tried all of this, and the preview remains the same (no photo on the cover). Also, when clicking the "Buy Book" button we get an error message that says "Empty text field detected in book. The book you are about to order contains an empty text field. How do you wish to proceed?" This gives the option to either cancel or continue, and since I have not been able to find it I always just hit continue.
I have tried contacting apple support but I guess their technical support for Aperture is only available during regular business hours.
Help?! We need this book printed and sent to us by the end of next week. We would pay extra for rush/expedited shipping, but this option doesn't seem to be available (at least in Canada).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The unified library does not work for books and other products. Aperture and iPhoto cannot open each others books, because the editing options are different.

Print projects
Books, calendars, and cards created in iPhoto are visible in the Source list in Aperture, but you cannot edit them. Books, web pages, and web journals created in Aperture are not visible in iPhoto.
Recreate the book in iPhoto, or send your friends a PDF of the book. To create a pfd see: iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture

Problems with editing text in iPhoto's Photo Book

Having clicked 'vertical direction' when editing text on the cover of my photo book, I can no longer edit text. The original text that was there is still there, horizontal, and I cannot get rid of it. Does anyone know how to reverse this?

Firstly check how the indents are done in Word. If You don't have Word to check it then Show Hidden Characters in InD and check it there– sometimes authors or editors of the text use different methods to indent text (tab characters, spaces or Word styles etc–there are many ways to do that). You can correct it all in InD. I've never seen anything get lost in .doc import but I always see when editor does unlogical things when writing. Indent must be always controlled by paragraph style. Maybe imported text paragraphs are using different imported styles? Check paragraphs in InD do they have indents in their style or not. Create Your own style with indent and mark Your paragraphs with Your style. Only way to control your text is through your styles.
