Virtual Printer

I don't have physical printer, all documents I print as pdf (reduce carbon footprint).  Apple has the print to convert it to pdf.  However, I am doing my Tax Return, it doesn't allow to print as PDF file.  I try to instal other PDF writer but it doesn't work with Mac as well.
Could anymore have any suggestion how could I print my tax return (eTax 2014 ATO).
Thank you very much

Hi,  try instead:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/set-default-printer-print-center.html
It works for current OS versions. If other dialogs appear, continue to add the printer.
The printer will be called localhost.  Select it to print from eTax and choose the option to " Print to pdf"
Directions previous were to go to the manufacturers site, not the Apple site for the install, but its ok, link above is a better alternative.
Apologies….
Cheers

  • How can I set up a share virtual printer on my macbook to print to pdf from my iPhone 5 or iPad?

I've never had the occassion to use a virtual printer setup but I've seen where other people have when they need to print to pdf and have no printer available where they are.  So, my question is really a spin off of that type of situation, except I have a printer, I just don't want to print.  I want to save from my iPad or iPhone to my MacBook's hard drive in pdf format.  From what I've seen online, I would imagine it involves setting up a virtual printer on the MacBook that I can set up as a shared printer, but there are so many conflicting responses on setting up a virtual printer and most of them are for older.  Does anyone have any experience with setting up a similar virtual printer in Maverick?
For completeness, I'll add system info:
MackBook 5.2 Core 2 Duo 2 GHz upgraded with 4 GB DDR2 RAM and Maverick OS
Obviously the virtual printer needs to support iPrint.

  • How do I download my Photosmart D5160 virtual printer to my windows 7

I have been using my Photosmart D5160 printer in a XP Vertual mode on my Windows 7 computer for about eight years now to print lables on DVDs.  Somthing happened in the last couple of weeks and the virtual printer won't conect to my Windows 7 computer any more.  I would like to know how to download the Photosmart D5160 printer file to Vertual XP program to my Windows 7 computer again so I can print on DVDs.

System Preferences->Sharing, check DVD or CD Sharing to on.

I just install Acrobat X pro for mac on iMac 10.6.5.  Everything went smoothly with one exception.
I wasn't able to add the Acrobat virtual printer that was there in other versions.
Is it no longer available?  If so how do I create the printer?
    Thanks.

  • Controlling the encoding of a PDF printed with a virtual printer?

    Hi all.
In another thread,  I was told that I cannot change the encoding of fonts with Adobe Reader. How about with Acrobat?
In an existing business process, users print PDFs to a virtual printer from Acrobat Reader. The resulting PDF somtimes contain CID fonts with encoding Identity-H.
Not all PDF viewers do this, some keep the encoding of the original pdf (same virtual printer used).
Can I control the encoding of the resulting PDF by printing from Acrobat (or any other Adobe product)?
    All comments appreciated,
    /Martin

    Thanks for answering!
    1) I realize it seems strange, but the virtual printer is embedded in one of our products. The product uses Windows printing as a point of integration in order to enable almost any windows program (including PDF readers) to send data to our server. In effect, we use pdf as our data protocol over the wire. It's a long story...
    2) The virtual printer embedded in our product is NovaPDF.
    3) I wish it wasn't an issue, but the library we use to extract text (PDFNet) does not seem to handle it very well. However, I am simultaneously looking for a solution in that end too.
The problem only occurs very rarely, for specific PDFs only. PDFs created by the library iText seem to be particularly problematic.

  • Anybody familiar with the details of implementing the Adobe PDF virtual printer?

    Hello, all.
We need to implement a virtual printer similar to the legendary one by Adobe. The images processed by it will be detailed CAD drawing.
Can a kind soul point me in the appropriate direction? For starters: what type of data (what format) is the virtual printer expected to receive?
    This will be for Windows.
    TIA,
    -RFH

Well... it isn't really a data format. A device driver (which includes a printer driver) provides a number of callbacks which correspond to the graphical calls made by a printing program. (At least, that's how it was when I looked into it a very long time ago). A driver might be asked to draw lines or boxes, to output text with particular fonts and attributes, or to accept a variety of raster graphics. This is something for an experienced programmer, or team, already very familiar with Windows graphic models such as GDI: device drivers are not easy to develop or debug, and because they run with special privileges; bugs in them have the potential to completely crash the system (blue screen of death) (although I read of something called "user mode drivers" which might be safer).
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/gg463348.aspx is a place where some of this seems to be discussed. I don't know whether you have to sign up with Microsoft. You might, because recent OSs will only install signed drivers.
Updated: if you still want to make a PDF, this is an enormous task, so big that Adobe dropped the two drivers they once had. Adobe don't even write the Adobe PDF driver. Rather, they use the operating system's PostScript driver, then convert PostScript to PDF using Distiller, a tool they conveniently already had. Adobe provide what I think is called a "print monitor" (?) that takes the output from the driver once it is fully formatted. If you can process PostScript you could do the same. (Note: a PostScript interpreter from scratch is a considerably larger task than a print driver, so that isn't an easy option; look at 5-10 person years if the people are sufficiently skilled).

  • Virtual Printer - Saving prints as a file

    Hi,
I need to setup a virtual printer such that, if anything is printed on that, it is saved as a file. This file sould contain printer instruction, which can then be sent to 3rd party for printing.
    Something like Microsoft Document Imaging.
All this has to run in background.
    Can anyone help?
    Regards,
    Vikas

Here's how to set up a virtual printer:
Tx; SPAD-> create a device type -> in change mode clikck on access method tab -> from edit menu select Command set-> command set id field shows up -> enter a letter,  for ex:A , Doubble click on the field-> give a description-> enter cp &F /tmp/vpfile in command to transfer print data field -> enter echo ok in the last field.
Host spool access method should be L in the printer definition.
When you print using this printer, the output file copied to /tmp/vpfile folder.

  • How do I remove USB virtual printer port

Im having some problems printing (see different thread) so I have removed all reference to the printers and drivers (nothing in devices and printers; nothing in print management), Ive removed all USB devices (except the mouse) switched off and removed the
battery for 60 minutes. The restarted.
    Still 3 USB ports
    Ive tried
http://www.ehow.com/how_6688235_delete-usb-virtual-printer-port.html  but I cant see the virtual USB ports in device manager
http://www.ehow.com/how_6910965_delete-usb-printer-port.html  But I cant (unsurprisingly) find the ports in installed programs
http://www.ehow.com/how_5869559_remove-usb-printer-port.htmll  (delete form devices and printers) But when I highlight the port from printer properties and click delete I get "selected port cannot be deleted. The request is not supported
Makes me think these are not properly installed ports.
Ive searched the registry for USB001 and there are 4 USB00? entries all under unknown printer with headings like 6&30e6e7fe&0&USB003. So I tried to deleted all of them. It lest me delete the parameter sub key but I am not allowed to delete the other
    keys (error while deleting key)
So after a bit of a search I came up with psexec (see link for more details and do take backups and read the instructions)
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/56fed319-a532-46a4-a384-fd795998c4a3/regedit-permissions-access-denied-or-error-while-deleting-key-even-as-admin?forum=w7itproinstall
And that allowed me to get rid of the ports from the registry but they were still visible in Devices adn printers under ports (after slecting a device)
So how do I get rid of these wretched ports?
    TFAI

    Hi,
Yes, you could create a new port for other printer. Of course, you also assign it to a different print if you don't use this printer.
    The detailed steps are below:
    1. Click the START button, click navigate to "Control Panel", then navigate to and click on "Printers."
    2. Once the printers window is open, click on "Add a printer" in the dark blue menu bar.
    3. At the "Choose a printer port" section click on the "Create a new port" radio button then select "Standard TCP/IP Port" for the "Type of port."
    4. At the "Type a printer hostname or IP Address" section select "TCP/IP Device" for "Device type" and input the proper hostname depending on the printer that you are installing, the IPs for all of the different departmental printers can be gotten from the
main printer help page on this website.
    5. At the "Type a printer name" section type in what you would like to call the printer under the "Printer name" section, this is entirely up to you. Here you also want to make sure that the driver that it says it will install corresponds with the model
    of printer you are installing.
    6. After the installation you should get a section called "You've successfully added [printername]." Here you should click the "Print a test page" button to make sure everything is installed correctly.

  • Printing on Virtual Printer

I need to print a document on a virtual printer (its a adobe postscript printer), all I am trying to do is print a document on it, and then the printer is capable of creating an postscript output file for the document printed. I can print on it, but somehow, the text that I am printing does not go through the printer converter, it goes directly to the output stream of the printer rather then coming in at the very first level.
Anyone smart enough to do this ?

The official instructions in the http://sourceforge.net/projects/g-manua … rce=navbar site says:
Using the Gnome 3 Shell GUI:
        1)      $ gnome-session-properties
Startup Programs -> GnomeManualDuplex -> Enable
                [logout][login]
        2)      Print -> GnomeManualDuplex (Virtual Printer) -> Print
But there's no package called gnome-session-properties. There's one in AUR but it is outdated.

  • No more Adobe virtual printer with Lion?

Hi everybody, I realized that I don' t see the virtual printer that usually came with Adobe Acrobat Pro anymore, so I wander if is something that Apple has stopped with Lion or is a bug on my MacPro. I do see a PDF button in Safari's Print window that allows to choose from some options (Save as PDF, etc.).
    Does anyone know something about?
    Thanks!

In Lion, open Safari, goto file, select print, select the "PDF" tab with a dropdown arrow at the bottom left corner, from the arrow select from the many options "Save as PDF..." this will allow you to save the pdf to a location on your harddrive for later viewing or printing options, which is exactly the same as using a pdf virtual printer in previous versions of Mac OSX.

  • Printing to Postscript with virtual printer

    Hi,
I would like to have virtual printer that allows to save prints as postscript files (.ps) within specified folder. Without a need to confirm that and or set that each time. Please do you know any solution?
I also found that the old hints with virtual poscript printer does not work in 10.7 (e.g. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404931.html) - do you know, how could I configure such virtual printer now?
    Thank you for any help.

  • No USB001 VIRTUAL PRINTER PORT

    HP Pavillion ZD8000 notebook
    Windows XP service pack 3
    Lexmark Series x5650 printer
Since I had laptop had no trouble printing.  Suddenly, cannot print.  Said printer was offline.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled Lexmark printer.   (USB printer).
Ran "control printers" - the Lexmark  is not there even though it says installed successfully.
Plug and play can't fix it, and when usb is connected, says installed successfully.
Looking further into issue, tried adding manually, but there is no
USB001 VIRTUAL PRINTER PORT FOR USB in the list of ports .
Per HP instructions on reparing usb ports (although not sure if this was the issue anyway, I unintalled all the usb hubs from device mgr , reinstalled usb.inf, and even usbprint.inf.
Problem still exists.  There is no virtual printer port.
Can anyone figure this one out?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the quick response.
All usb devices work fine. (other than the printer)
I just don't know why it's not being recognized, and the virtual
printer port is not appearing.   I have searched the net
for hours and cannot seem to find a fix though I
    have tried the recommendations.
