Virtual SAN Manager Connect to Hyper v machine shows error

Hi,
If I restart the virtual machine after connect to Fibre Channel. The Show error below.

Hi,
you have to make sure all your Equipment does Support the NPIV Feature correct, SAN Switch, HBA FW and Driver, Looks like the NPIV Feature is not working correct.
what equipment you have in place ?

  • Virtual SAN Manager Hyper-V 2012 R2 iSCSI

I think I know the answer to this question, but one someone to tell me for sure....
We currently have iSCSI San's implemented in our organization.  We are using Hyper-V 2012 R2 and doing nothing fancy with it.  We could like to be able to take advantage of Virtual SAN Manager within Hyper-V to take care of the snapshotting, etc..
It appears that in order to use this you must have a FC SAN.  Can someone tell me if this is a correct statement or not?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi jesmitch,
    Yes , it is .
plaese refer to following preparation :
One or more installations of Windows Server 2012 with the Hyper-V role installed.
A computer with one or more Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) that have an updated HBA driver that supports virtual Fibre Channel. Updated HBA drivers are included with the in-box HBA drivers for some models. The HBA ports to be used with virtual
Fibre Channel should be set up in a Fibre Channel topology that supports NPIV. To determine whether your hardware supports virtual Fibre Channel, contact your hardware vendor or OEM.
    An NPIV-enabled SAN.
Virtual machines configured to use a virtual Fibre Channel adapter, which must use Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012 as the guest operating system.
Storage accessed through a virtual Fibre Channel supports devices that present logical units. Virtual Fibre Channel logical units cannot be used as boot media.

  • Where is the Virtual Network Manager in my Hyper-V under Action in my Hyper-V Manager

Hi there - I would not say I am a novice at creating environment within Hyper-V. I have built or should I say created, and then deleted several virtual environments. I am familiar with the process of creating virtual hard disks, virtual machines and then
    selecting the appropriate switch etc.
To make a long story short I was having issues connecting my servers this time around. Worked fine the last time I built this same environment. I was researching various blogs and TechNet articles and they mention a "Virtual Network Manager."
I do not see it on my first laptop. I have other selections under the "Action" menu in my Hyper-Manager window but not a Virtual Network Manager. Went to my second laptop and that feature was missing on my second laptop too.
Where or how do I see it?
    Thanks
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
"Virtual Network Manager" is used in 2008/R2 hyper-v .
In 2012/R2 it is named "virtual switch manager"  .
They are a wizard to create/manager virtual switch .

  • Windows 2012 Hyper-V Virtual SAN Switch Best Practice

I have a four node cluster running W2012 Datacenter edition on each.  All systems have Emulex HBA compatible with Hyper-V and Virtual SAN technology. The hosts are connected to a Brocade SAN Switch with NPIV Enabled. I've
created a Virtual SAN on each host. The vSAN is connected to 2 physical HBA. Each HBA is connected to a different physical SAN Switch.
I have some questions about the best practice of the whole system.
    1. Do I have to create a vSAN per physical HBA ? Or create one vSAN that include 2 HBA ?
    2. Add 2 virtual HBA per VM to have fault tolerance ? Or one virtual HBA that is connected to a vSAN with 2 HBAs ?
    3.  Do I have to create a virtual port for each VM on the HBA Gui (OCManager) ?
Any best pratice or advice ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
first you will do almost the same as you do on a physical SAN, normally you build 2 Fabrics right ?
In Case you have that in place you will configure also 2 vSANs to build up your 2 seperate ways/pathes.

It is a sexy feature but if one point in the chain is doing wrong things with your NPIV Packets you are lost, so in my personal view you miss the for me most inportant point why i do Hyper-V, the Separation of HW and Software :-)
One Problem i had once was after live Migration of a VM with configured vFC the Destination Host lost there FC Connection, but only if the Host have been one SAN Hop away from the HP Storage , was a HP Driver Problem, used the original Qlogic Driver and
everything was fine, so same as with some HP Networking Driver for Broadcom, do not trust every update, test it before puting it in production.
    Hope that helps ?

am using windows 8, 64 bit system inside VMWARE in Ubuntu 14.04 . I have intel core i3 processor.
I want to install WIndows-7 inside windows 8 as a virtual machine. SO I tried to use "HYPER V MANAGER" with elevated privilege. wHEN I TRY , NEW->VM Machine->'after some steps'-> when I press Finish I get following error,

  • SUSE11 SP3 virtual SAN configuration with hyper-V 2012 X64 not working.

Below is the hyper-v server details.
    HyperV server : windows 2012R2 X64 datacenter.
Steps performed for SUSE11 SP3 host.
Installed virtual machines for SUSE11SP3 server on hyper-v with ISO SLES11-SP3-X86-64.
Assigned virtual SAN ports as VSAN0 &VSAN1 for SAN storage.
Configured Host group in Hitachi VSP storage for suse server.
Created Ldev and mapped it to host group.
    On host, #cat /proc/scsi/scsi, #fdisk –l
Host does not show any devices from Hitachi OPEN-V even after multiple reboot and storage refresh as well.
I also tried same above steps on another exisiting hyper-v which is on windows 2012 X64. mapped Ldevs from Hitachi VSP storage are not visible.
Please let me know if anything additional needs to be installed as Integration services. I got to know from microsoft tech note that linux IC comes by default with SUSE and no need to install separately. I have been struggling to get resolution so far.

    Hi Sir,
    >>I got to know from microsoft tech note that linux IC comes by default with SUSE and no need to install separately.
    Yes, you are right .
I have also checked "virtual fibre channel" is supported in SUSE11 SP3 :
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn531027.aspx
I would suggest you to follow the following guide and pre-reuqirements of using virtual SAN:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robertvi/archive/2014/07/11/getting-started-with-virtual-fibre-channel-inside-a-hyper-v-vm.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/privatecloud/archive/2013/07/23/hyper-v-virtual-fibre-channel-design-guide.aspx
You can try to create a windows VM and try to use virtual san for it , after configuring VSAN successfully then try to deploy SUSE .

  • Can a Hyper-V machine be made slower and/or emulate a slow network connection?

need to reproduce an issue with a client-server asynchronous communication (a bunch of JavaScript AJAX vs. an OData api), seemingly caused by some race condition in the calculations when the server and/or the network connection
    slow down.
Now, the test environment I have is a local Hyper-V machine, so it's all shiny and fast ... I need it to slow
    down to verify it.
Is there any known method to (basically) make a LAN Hyper-V machine to behave like a remote server reached though a crawling internet connection ?

The best method I have found for simulating a crapy internet connection is to put a pfsense router between the server and my test PC and setup the Limiter features.https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Traffic_Shaping_Guide#Limiter
This can be used to emulate a slow network, latency or even introduce packet loss to see how your applications react to adverse network conditions.
pfsense can run inside a hyperv virtual machine. So you can set it up then change the webserver network settings to be behind pfsense.
If you don't like pfsense you can use any BSD distro that supports Dummynet.http://cs.baylor.edu/~donahoo/tools/dummy/tutorial.htm

  • 2 questions about connection to hyper-v in windows 8

    hi,
I can connect to my virtual machine from hyper-v manager  ,but when I try the other option
--- connect with hyper-v virtual machine(option)  I see  on the log on wizard telling me that I don't have  the right to run this job.  take contact with the autorazition policy administrator.
1---my question is here ,   is connect with hyper-v virtual machine  option   is  specially purposed to connect with  virtual server or it has some onother function!   because I opened the autorazation
policy on my windows 8 to see if I can edit some policies but I didn't see any function to creat one only it is asking for archieve.
2--connction trough remote desktop to VM is only purposed from ouside or you can use it  to connect to VM internally too? very short answers wil be enough.

it gives  me Always an error with  that I don't have the right to run this  conect option through its log on  window and I have to contact my system administrator of autorization policy?
is this option (connect) outside the hyper-v manager is purposed for the server or I have to change some policies on my computer to can log on to virtual machine from ouside the hyper-v manager with this second option

  • Virtual switch internet connection sharing problem

    Greetings,
I am having a problem with sharing internet connection to virtual machine. I tried to create external virtual switch but without success. From time to time I got an error:
Error applying Virtual Switch Properties changes
An internal error occurred while processing the results of creating a new virtual switch. To refresh the results, close and then reopen this window.
but mostly the creation goes fine but after new virtual network device is created I can no longer access internet from Windows 8.1 nor VM as authentication fails (802.1x Secure W2 EAP-TTLS with certificate, username and password). The new device created
by virtual switch manager has authentication changed to Windows Protected EAP(PEAP) instead of original Secure W2 - even if I change it to original Secure W2 nothing happens - authentication still fails.
Sometimes when I try to change authentication settings of new or old NIC I got an error:
The changes to Authentication settings could not be saved
The virtual switch seems to have the same authentication settings as I have had on my NIC but from some reason it doesn't work.
If I am persistent enough I convince to install virtual switch by several attempts but it doesn't work - neither my server (windows 8.1) nor VM can connect to internet.
I hope it is not this:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/341cbe70-3fa7-4991-a7e4-4f1af63df4d0/windows-8-hyperv-8021x-eapol-request-missing?forum=w8itpronetworking
unsolved problem. If it is I am screwed :-/
Any advice how to fix this mess much appreciated...

1.Go to network connection, and find the Wireless network, right click at it.
I am connected by wire (RJ-45) not by WIFI. The cerificate is valid (trusted root certificate used by Secure W2 authentization - not the authentication type you have described).
The problem is in creation of external virtual switch - removed it also with the driver from device manager I installed (and removed) subsequently both motherboard manufacturer latest drivers for my integrated network card and also let windows detect it.
Finally I removed Hyper-V and did a clean installation of network adapter drivers. Then I enabled again Hyper-V role.
After several restarts I tried to create external switch and I was again in the same problems. Then I redid everything and tried to install virtual switch again but
I installed INTERNAL virtual switch instead of external.
External simply doesn't work for me and also destroys functional connections...
To be able to access internet from virtual machine a tried to create a bridge between the connections but then it simply didn't work again (neither could I access internet from host on which was Hyper-V running).
So what has after several trial and errors worked for me eventually - if you would like to have internet connection functional in Hyper-V VM you have to
create INTERNAL VIRTUAL SWITCH and share the original connection and it should then somehow work...

  • Xcelsius 2008 keeps crashing when invoking "Manage Connections" button.

    Hi,
I am trying to evaluate Xcelsius 2008 but it keeps crashing. I hope it is not a problem with the software, but rather with my computer (although I have tried it Windows XP and Windows Vista - both fail).
I installed Xcelsius 2008 (1.1.0.3) on Windows Vista yesterday and it was working great. I was able to make it connect to a web service that I developed and display the data.
This morning I am having frustaring problems... Everytime I try to click on the "Manage connections" button, Xcelsius just crashes. It can be an empty model and it will crash. I put some components and then click on the button and it crashes.
I went to the Windows event log to see if I could find anything usefull and this is what I have found:
Faulting application Xcelsius.exe, version 1.1.0.3, time stamp 0x487c64e0, faulting module MFC80U.DLL, version 8.0.50727.1833, time stamp 0x482bc450, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0004c655, process id 0x160c, application start time 0x01c9038b7fe324cb.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Javier,
I would like to think the problem is with the machine as well, but it has ocurred on Windows XP and Windows Vista.
My Windows Vista is a brand new computer, with nothing but the OS (and whatever Toshiba has put in it), Office and Xcelsius.
Right now I am building a Virtual PC machine with only Windows 2K3 and Office 2K3 installed on it. I will download all the patches and all the updates from Microsoft for it, but nothing else. I will then install Xcelsius and see if the problem persists.
I have run Xcelsius logged as the admin and as a user and the problem happens regardles.
Do you think it could be with the free trial version of the software? What is the version of the MFC80U.DLL you use? My version is 8.0.50727.1833
I have been impressed with what the software can do, but I am not too impressed with the way the software works.

  • Error file share not managed but fabric- provider/fileserver and hyper-v host show managed/responding

    Hi,
I am really puzzled by the following situation. I have a SCVMM 2012 R2 cluster that manages a Hyper-V host cluster on windows 2012 r2 and storage attached by SOFS Cluster on windows 2012 r2. There is 1 share - CSV1 for all VMs.
Under Fabric -> Providers/Arrays/FileServer everything is green and has status of responding and CSV1 is shown as managed.
Under Fabric -> Hosts -> Cluster properties -> Fileshare storage the CSV1 is visible and status responding, just as on the hyper-v hosts.
The error I have is that around 50% of those VM have "unsupported VM configuration" and under properties I get the error that the file share that the VHDX is running on is not managed. --> This is wrong because the share IS managed by VMM. As
I said I only have 1 (!) CSV for ALL of my VMs. If the share isn't managed by VMM then none of the VM could show a valid status. But this is what I see.
A refresh on the virtual machine gives me an error of ID12700 "VMM cannot complete the host operations... unkown error (0x8005)." On the Hyper-V Host itself for the time frame that I performed the refresh of the VM there are no corresponding errors.
The only thing I found is that all VMs with unsupported configuration have wrong properties entry in SCVMM. In SCVMM
the VM properties -> Advanced -> Availablity is set to "normal". On all VMs that work just fine the Availability is "High". I went to the Failovercluster Manager on the Hyper-V host. All VMs are visible under "Roles" and
therefor are HA VMs. So for some reason SCVMM has a wrong information on their HA status. I am not sure if this is the reason why
some are showing the error and some not but it is the only difference I found.
Does someone have an idea what could cause this behavior?

Yes all of those VMs were created before VMM exists. A Cluster refresh and hyper-v host refresh runs through without errors or information. So that is OK.
Migration is not possible because of the error. LiveMigration is not available from the GUI. Haven't checked powershell yet but will do so today.
I have been able to limit the errors to a smaller number of VMs (well if you could say that). I removed and re-added the hyper-v cluster. After that about 1/3 of all VMs still show the error and all of them are on the same Hyper-V server. Not sure if this
is relevant or just by "accident". I checked this hyper-v host but in regards to storage, network, hyper-v configuration I do not see any difference to the other two cluster nodes either on hyper-v nor on SCVMM.
