Virtual SBS2011 goes offline during backup
Hello Everybody
We have a virtual SBS2011 on a 2012 R2 host.
Everytime the backup runs it takes the SBS2011 offline so disconnects everybodies Outlook and folder re-directions.
Other VM's are all OK it's just the SBS2011. When I try to upgrade the Host components it just says they are up to date and doesn't give me the option to upgrade or repair.
Help please?
Thanks
Daren
What state does the VM go into during the backup? Saved?

Server 2012 RC. I'm using Storage Spaces, with two virtual disks across 23 underlying physical disks.
* First virtual disk is fixed provisioning, parity across 23 physical disks: 10,024GB capacity
* Second virtual disk is fixed provisioning, parity across the remaining space on 6 of the same physical disks: 652GB capacity
These have been configured as dynamic disks, with an NTFS volume spanned across the two (larger virtual disk first). Total volume size 10,676GB. For more details of the hardware, and why the configuration is like this, see: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserver8gen/thread/c35ff156-01a8-456a-9190-04c7bcfc048e
I'm copying several TB from a network share to this volume. It is very slow at ~12MB/sec, but works. However, three times so far, several hours in to the file copy and with plenty of free space remaining, the 10,024GB virtual disk is suddenly taken offline.
This obviously then fails the spanned volume and stops the file copy.
The second time, I took screenshots, below. The disk (Disk27) is marked offline due to "This disk is offline because it is out of capacity". And the disk in the spanned volume is marked as missing (which is what you would expect when one of its member disks
is offline).
I can then mark the disk (Disk27) back online again, and this restores the spanned volume. I can then re-start the file copy from where it failed. There doesn't appear to be any data loss, but it does cause an outage that requires manual attention. As you
can see, there is plenty of space left on the spanned volume.
Each time this has happened, there are a few event 150 errors in the System event log: "Disk 27 has reached a logical block provisioning permanent resource exhaustion condition.". Source: Disk.

This error seems to be related to thin provisioning of disks. I found this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/hh848068(v=vs.85).aspx. But both these Virtual Disks are configured as Fixed, not Thin provisioning, so it shouldn't apply.
My thoughts: the virtual disk should not spuriously go offline during a file copy, even if it was out of space. And in any case, there is plenty of free space remaining. Also, I don't understand the reason for why it is marked as offline ("This disk is offline
because it is out of capacity"). Why would a disk go offline because it was out of thin capacity, rather than just returning an "out of disk space" error while keeping it online.Interesting Thread, I've been having the same issue. I had a failed hardware RAID that was impossible to recover in place, so after being forced to do a 1:1 backup, I find myself with 5 2TB hard drives to play with. Storage Spaces seemed like an interesting
way to go until I started facing the issues we share.
So my configuration is A VM Running Windows Server 2012 RC with 5 Virtualized Physical drives using a SCSI interface, 2TB in size that make up my storage pool. A Single Thinly provisioned Disk of 18 TB (using 1 disk for parity)
Interestly enough, write speed has not been an issue on this machine (30~70MB/s, up from 256k on the beta)
Of note to me is this error in my event log 13 minutes before the drive disappeared:
"The shadow copies of volume E: were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time.Consider reducing the IO load on the system or choose a shadow copy storage volume that is not being shadow copied."Source: volsnap, Event ID: 25, Level: Error
followed by:
"The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in VolumeId: E:, DeviceName: \Device\HarddiskVolume17.(The physical resources of this disk have been exhausted.)"Source: Ntfs (Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs), Event ID: 140, Level: Warning
I figure the amount of space available to me before I start encountering physical limits is in the vicinity of about 7TB. It dropped out for the second time at 184 GB.
FYI, the number of columns created for me is 5

DPM 2012 R2, Windows 2012 R2, and "stop" VM during backup
I did upgrade
DPM 2012 SP1 to 2012
R2.
DMP backup the server with Hyper-V
machines, windows / linux.
The previous version of Windows, as
did backup via partition shapshot
not stop its operation.
Current unfortunately it does!
During backup closes all connections
to the virtual machine, start the
copy and return connections.
Hyper-V also shows the
beginning of a new machine to count
on time as if they held the
restart (even though it was not).
As every change / off?
Going back to the previous version?
Backup Group I created again
- does not help."We are looking for what is
the procedure for checking why
the DPM wants
to do only
offline backup"
Yes that is why I asked what do you see in your "Windows Server Backup" from the Hyper-V host. Did
you do an update at the Hyper-V Hosts? Could you update the Hyper-V integration tools in your Virtual Machine?
What guest system is used in your windows virtual machine? If there a Windows Server 2008 R2 (with installed SP1) or a windows server 2012 you should try to update the integration tools at this machine first. When updated is done, try to backup online again. -
Itunes crashed during backup and I can't get help from apple support on the
website.
Stupid Itunes crashed on disk 41 of 46 when backing up.
There is no help available on the apple website and no way to request help on the apple website for any issue with Itunes.
How do I fix this problem?
How do I tell Itunes which disks it backup up so it won't try backing them up all over again. Did it destroy a list of what was backed up? What's going on with itunes anyways? Does it always crash when it backs up this many cds? I don't want to start all over again and ruin another 41 CDR disks trying to back it up. How do I get it to continue from where it crashed or do whatever has to be done to get it to resume where it crashed during backup?
Stupid program wouldn't let me do anything after it crashed. said it will take a minute or two (more like forever) to cancel backup. Don't even know why it was trying to cancel the backup. I didn't tell it to.Apparently there are some bugs in the latest itunes. DO NOT USE ITUNES TO BACKUP YOUR LIBRARY! UNLESS IT COMPLETES THE BACKUP, ITUNES IS NOT SMART ENOUGH TO FIGURE OUT WHICH FILES WERE BACKED UP. TECH SUPPORT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE ITUNES KNOW WHAT FILES WERE BACKED UP SO IT CAN CONTINUE FROM WHERE IT LEFT OFF. AFTER 41 CDS WORTH OF BACKUPS, ITUNES CRASHED AND IT TRIED TO CANCEL THE BACKUP BUT NEVER FINISHED DOING THAT.
SO AFTER 60 CDS WORTH AND ABOUT 6 HOURS OF WASTED TIME, THE ONLY WAY IS TO BACKUP THE ENTIRE LIBRARY ALL OVER AGAIN WHICH IS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY, TIME, AND CDS WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK ANY BETTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND.
EVEN TRYING TO RESTORE FROM CDS DOESN'T TELL ITUNES TO UPDATE ITS LIST OF BACKED UP FILES. I'M SURPRISED THAT SUCH A BIG BLUNDER WITH ITUNES HAS GONE UNNOTICED.
ITS A SERIOUS ENOUGH ISSUE THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. I BACKED UP MY ITUNES TO HD AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS SO OBVIOUSLY ITS AN ITUNES ISSUE.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, ITS A VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM TO PUT SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT INTO GETTING NOWHERE. -
MaxDB going offline after log recover
Hello,
I've got a problem with my standby instance. I would like to import data into standby instance from autolog files generated by master instance. I am trying to use dbmcli tool + its utility session.
My problem is, that after data recovery my database instance going offline. Is it normal behavior of MaxDB 7.5?Hello Konrad ,
Please update with additional information:
-> What are the versions of the source & target database instances?
-> Please update with outputs of the following commands:
dbmcli -s db_enum
Dbmcli -s inst_enum

Do you think the database was not shutdown properly at that time? If backup of datafile was carried on with database still open, it may cause the errors as shwon on oracle alert log file, but I am not sure.

Time Capsule internet stall during backups
Just started to happen recently but it looks like everytime the backup starts, my internet connection begins to stall. As soon as the backup is complete, my internet is working again. It's not like the backups are large sizes, not sure what's going on. The TC had been working great for the past 6 months and this just started to happen the last couple weeks. Other than no internet during backups, it works well. Any ideas?
fangpee wrote:
I am running it via wireless. Typically the RSSI is around 70, this last time when the internet stalled during backup the RSSI was down in the 54 range. I know there have been backups hourly or so but when my internet stalled just a few minutes ago, it was the first time since I posted the first msg in this thread. I still haven't figured out anything common for when it does stall during backups.
You'll notice that the value for RSSI is a negative number, so the larger the absolute value, the worse the connection. I also see an RSSI value of -70. My wireless network performance is so poor at that value that I use an Ethernet connection instead.
Even if the noise on your link is as low as -90, that only gives you a signal-to-noise ratio of 20 (-70 minus -90), which according to the second message of this thread
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10329543
qualifies as a "low signal". If the noise on your link is higher (a smaller absolute value), then the SNR value will be worse and your throughput will suffer accordingly. -
Offline & online backups????
Hi all,
Why are the advantages & disadvantages of offline & online backups??Hi Ravi,
Joydeep has described it very well.
Just to add a bit:
If you are wondering what happens to the online redo log files while the online backup is running:
During online backup, BRBACKUP does not backup the online redo log files. Instead, BRBACKUP generates online redo log switches so that all the online redo log files written during the online backup are copied into the archive directory. These offline redo log files then need to be backed up, since an online backup is consistent only in conjunction with these redo log files. The BRARCHIVE program backs up the offline redo log files.
So the idea that during an online backup some redo files might be missed, is explained from the above paragraph.

HI all,

The SAP system is on Solaris/Oracle running ECC6.0. LTO-4 tape drive is used for the backup. Tape_size in initSID.sap is set to 720000M. Current database size is 128Gb.
What is the reason for the backup failure?

What can make a DBF going offline ?
Hello,
First post here...
I got an error that made 2 datafiles become offline. I had to recover them and it seems to work now.
I wonder what is the cause of that. My db (9i in Archivelog mode) is on a W2K Server.
Here is part of the alert.log:
Thu Apr 14 10:10:52 2005
Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 1132189
Checkpoint not complete
Current log# 3 seq# 1132188 mem# 0: L:\ORAHOME1\ORADATA\MYBASE\REDO03.LOG
Thu Apr 14 10:10:53 2005
Errors in file d:\orahome9i\admin\mybase\bdump\mybase_ckpt_5528.trc:
ORA-01171: datafile 29 going offline due to error advancing checkpoint
ORA-01122: database file 29 failed verification check
ORA-01110: data file 29: 'D:\ORAHOME1\ORADATA\MYBASE\MY_DATA_FILE.ORA'
ORA-01208: data file is an old version - not accessing current version
I have to precise that the datafiles are quite
small (ie <1GB) and that the problem occured during the production (not after any admin operation on the db).
The only preceding events that could be the cause of this problem, I think, are due to ARC process:
Thu Apr 14 10:10:49 2005
ARC0: Evaluating archive log 1 thread 1 sequence 1132186
ARC0: Warning. Log sequence in archive filename wrapped
to fix length as indicated by %S in LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT.
Old log archive with same name might be overwritten.
ARC0: Beginning to archive log 1 thread 1 sequence 1132186
Creating archive destination LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1: 'E:\ARCHIVELOGS_ORACLE\ARC32186.001'
ARC0: Completed archiving log 1 thread 1 sequence 1132186
I know that I should use %s instead of %S in my file mask.
But do you think that it could have been the origin of my problem ?
Thanks for any advice or idea to dig
Aurélien BastardieYour error is not related to the archive logs. Oracle offlined the datafiles because it could not update file header(s). The ORA-01122 indicates that the file was out of synch w/ the control file - most likely because it could not update the file - so it offlined it.
Check your system event logs for any disk related errors.

SMD agents goes offline in agent administration
Hi,
In my landscape all the SMD agents are directly registered to Solman SPS27.
Each time my solman is restarted, all teh agents in agent administration goes offline. but in actual its runing at OS lvl.
After we take seperate Java stack restart of solman, agents come online in agent admin. This scenario is confusing
Any idea as to how can we overcome this issue ?
Regards,
ShyamThanks Guilherme for this very good clearification!
I have a simular problem at the moment and can confirm that the agent connection get disabled because they are not able to authentificate. I will try to implement the workaround with the telnet command to bring the agents in MM... This should help to solve the issue.
Anyway what I don´t understand is that not all agents get disconnected!
For example:
SMDsystem.log of Agent which is offline:

Capture device goes offline interrupting capture.
Sony DSR V-10
PPro CC
Dell Inspiron 660
Win 7 Pro
8gb ram
Startech PCI 1394a Firewire cardThanks for the response.
I capture SD video from tape using Sony DSR V10. I installed a fire wire card for interface. PPro capture controls work fine however during capture the device goes offline interrupting capture. I can save the clip and get an entire capture using multiple clips by overlapping. Once the capture device goes offline I stop the deck manually but as soon as it stops the capture device & controls come back online..I rewind, overlap and continue. It goes offline erratically. I have played with security interruptions, auto-save and no relief.
