Virtual Scroll Glitch

The Auto Scroll (aka Virtual Scroll) utility appears to have a little glitch when dealing with multiple monitors of (presumably) different resolutions.
I am reporting this bug from a X100e, which has a resolution of 1366x768, attached to an external monitor of 1280x1024.
The symptoms are reproducible and are as follows:
  1. Multiple displays set to Extend. (Presumably of different resolutions.)
  2. A maximized window.
  3. Win+D is used to minimize the window. (The minimize button does not trigger this.)
  4. Attempting to scroll off the edges of the screen produces wallpaper corruption.
        See screenshot: http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/7603/53719659.jpg
I think the program is not registering the fact that the window is no longer in focus and is attempting to shift the wallpaper window element back on screen with respect to the wrong resolution.
The issue persists with the Auto Scroll service stopped. Will try disabling the service and restarting.
EDIT: The issue is no longer present after disabling Auto Scroll and restarting. It returns upon starting the service.
It's a minor glitch really.
As a side note, it took way too much effort to figure out what Auto Scroll actually does. There's a descriptor for every service for a reason .
EDIT2: For whatever reason, Auto Scroll turns off the first time you disable the service. Subsequent times disabling the service doesn't work; the feature and aforementioned issue are still active.
The issue also occurs regardless of orientation of displays.

The Auto-Scroll Utility also causes problems with Terminal Server use under the same conditions.  I had a user who did not have the 'panning' issue, as I called it when I talked with Lenovo, when they were on the desktop with Windows 7.  However, when they connected to a Terminal server, you could make the desktop 'pan' when you try to move the mouse pointer into the 'dead' space difference between the two displays.  This is using Remote Desktop Connection with the option of 'Use all my monitors' checked.
Did not matter which display was primary, if you had one display that was a larger resolution either in 'height' or in width of the other monitor, you have a 'black' dead space area with the two displays depending on the orientation of the displays.  IE, if I had a 1920x1080 and I had a 1280x800 display setup, if the displays were side by side, the viewing rectangle would be designated as 3200x1080...  Which leaves a dead space on the vertical of 280.  If your cursor tried to move into this dead space, Auto-scroll utility kicks in and pans the desktop around on both displays.
As the original poster points out, when you disable the Lenovo Auto-Scroll Utility Service, this is no longer an issue.  I have been trying to figure out this problem with some of these users and never thought to look at the Auto-scroll utility, and didn't even notice it until looking on another system and seeing it running in the processes.  Lenovo techs are also not aware of this, as I called this in and they original believed due to the nature of my system build, which is a non-IBM loadout, that we needed to reload the OS using their disks before going further.
I highly recommend that unless you REALLY need this feature, to turn this off.  There is no real gain from it that isn't already provided to you by Windows 7 at this time.

  • Why can't I use virtual scrolling on the touchpad on my laptop with the new version 5 of Firefox?

Virtual scrolling: being able to drag my finger along the right border of the touchpad to scroll up/down pages.

You can try to set the pref <b>ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled</b> to <i>0</i> or <i>1</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page to see if that makes it work.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />

In the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch fifth GEN I've noticed that there is a scrolling glitch and I would like 2 know if this has been fixed?

  • Virtual Scrolling is very rough

Hi, I have Vista x64 on my T400. I've installed the UltraNav trackpad driver properly and enabled virtual scrolling.
However the actual virtual scrolling experience is very frustrating. It's anything but smooth. It works 3/10 tries for me and that too it's very jumpy. I tried change scrolling speed but it doesn't help.
I had owned Dell inspirons in the past and I had very smooth virtual scrolling experience. Is there anything I can do in this case?

When I orginally purchased my thinkpad I had the issue of poor virtual scrolling only in firefox, scrolling in IE worked fine.  I had to install the beta drivers listed within this post
    http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/17890-synaptics-v10-2-4-modded-for-acer-gemstone-series/
in order to get smooth virtual scrolling firefox.  However, with these modified drivers I sometimes loose my scrolling ability with the touchpad while watching videos on youtube or other flash videos.  It's very strange.  I'm not sure what it is specifically with firefox and the lastest version of the synaptic drivers on Lenovo's website but there seems to be some sort of conflict which is causing poor scrolling performance in firefox but not IE.  I hope this helps.

  • Scrolling glitch - Amber & Double Tap-to-Wake bug

    Hi!
    I`ve got a Lumia 920 with Amber.
There is a glitch, that I could also reproduce in another L920 and a L820:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RRMVhYYHiE
(this is not my video, but is the same glitch)
    Description:
When the Double Tap-to-wake is ON, starting a scroll on apps like Settings, Store or Browser, for example, causes the screen to JUMP for milliseconds. After that, the scrolls does fine.
    Getting rid of it:
Disable Double Tap-to-wake and restart the phone.
If you turn the feature on again, the glitch returns.
    Anybody?
    Is Nokia aware of this?
    Thanks!

The issue is still there with the Lumia Black Update.
However there is another thing to the problem (Or another solution):
The problem only occurs if you have BOTH "Double Tap to Wake" and the "Screen magnifier" turned on.
Since the Screen magnifier is turned of by default, the Nokia Nokia engineers have not found the bug yet.
I hope that this issue gets fixed in a future update!

  • Safari scrolling glitch with Ipad Air - iOS 7.0.4

In safari when scrolling to the bottom of any website/webpage. Safari will continue to scroll - there is no bounce back. Essentially allowing you to scroll past the bottom of the website/webpage and seeing nothing but grey screen.
The scroll bar/indicator on the right side of the screen also disappears - now you can't even tell how far down the website/webpage you have scrolled down.
I have brought my first ipad air to the Genius Bar and the rep informed they have not seen the glitch before. I received a second ipad air and this same glitch is happening.
I do have and old ipad one and this particular glitch has never happened.
    Any ideas? Or similar experiences?

Does not happen on mine. Try a reset: Hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.

  • New MBP running 10.5.2 and scrolling glitch in Safari

I have a new MBP with OS 10.5.2 and unlike my iBook G4 that it replaced, if I scroll at normal speed in Safari using the trackpad, text within Web pages is completely gorked. If I scroll really slowly, it can be ok. Suggestions? Sounds like a bug to me.

David, as your machine is clearly under warranty you should contact the Apple dealer you bought from to have it fixed. If the dealer acknowledges that it is a known (by Apple) fault make sure that your complaint is registered so that it will be fixed whenever Apple resolve the issue.
If the dealer and/or Apple don't acknowledge the problem exists then contact Apple support directly and be firm and insist on the problem being fixed - perhaps by replacing the computer for you.

  • Scrolling and selecting text with a bluetooth mouse. (Possible bug?)

I currently have an Apple Keyboard and Magic Mouse hooked up to my Playbook. They work very well, the implementation is incredible. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to scroll with the the mouse. It really limits the PB since if I hook it up to my television I cannot scroll unless I have the PB near me. Has anyone gotten this to work or is this something we are hoping to get in a future update? Aslo, is there a way to select text and bring up the copy/paste menu without having to use the touch screen? I can select text by holding shift / arrow keys on the keyboard but am unable to perform any actions without having to use the touchscreen.
    Thanks!

Hold on there, @jnko -- are you saying you can scroll with the mouse (as in, use the virtual scroll wheel), or are you saying you can use the mouse to click on the document in, say, Word To Go, and drag it to make the screen scroll?  I can only do the latter, and, like you, can't scroll at all in the web browser.  Stinks that this wasn't fixed with the last update...

  • How to switch off scroll and zoom functions of touchpad on Satellite L

    Hi.
Can anyone tell me how to switch off the scroll and zoom functions for the Synaptics Touchpad v7.2 .
Can't seem to do it via the Control Panel.
    Any suggestions.

    Hi buddy,
    > Can't seem to do it via the Control Panel.
You can only disable the virtual scrolling function if the touchpad driver is installed properly. The driver provides extended functions and allows you to disable/enable special features. If you dont have installed the touchpad driver download it on official Toshiba page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Then navigate to control panel as the previous user wrote for disabling the scroll function.
    Can you find it now?

  • Mouse pointer on occasion has a small scrolling bar

that shows up and is really annoying is this a Vista or toshiba thing and can I uninstall it.
    Thanks!

For every mouse issue the first thing you should do is to check mouse options to see if there is something you can do about it. It costs less time than looking in forum and wait for answer.
Anyway, I am not 100% sure what are you writing about but I presume you are writing about virtual scrolling option. Go to the mouse properties and disable this option. I hope you will be able to find it. If not please let me know I will help you.
What is now with Firefox under Vista? No comment to this?

  • "Scroll Bar" appears when moving cursor - Satellite L305D-S5904

I just bought a Satellite L305D-S5904 for my mother.
It came with Windows Vista Home Premium.
I noticed that a tiny scroll bar appears at the cursor sometimes.
It makes navigation quite a pain.
Can you turn this feature off?
To clarify, when using the touchpad, moving the cursor, sometimes a tiny "scrollbar" appears at the point of the cursor's "arrow."
    This is unbelievably aggrevating!
I've never seen such a thing before.
    Thanks for the help!

    > I've never seen such a thing before.
Maybe because you didnt work with such hi-tech touchpad??? ;) lol
This is a touchpad feature which can be disabled in touchpad properties.
    Check you control panel-> mouse
There should be something about touchpad settings.
There you have to disable the Virtual scrolling.

  • T43 Vertical Scrolling Problem (not just Firefox)- Any official response from Lenovo

After searching the forum, i have not been able to find any response from Lenovo as to how to correct this problem.
Incidentally, my "occasional" vertical scrolling problem occurs in any browser,  IE7, Firefox3, Opera9 (at least those 3) as well as Windows applications with a vertical scroll bar like Windows Explorer.
This only started to occur very randomly around 6 months ago.  But as of late it is occuring more often.
    The only work-around
    http://blog.jonschneider.com/2008/03/workaround-thinkpad-gets-into-always.html
might indicate that it is a possible hardware problem.
However, I have to say that I rarely use the laptop scrolling buttons and 99.9% of the time, latetly, I use a Logitech laser USB mouse for scrolling purposes.
As another possible work-around (if you are using an external mouse) is to uncheck the enable virtual scrolling in the touchpad properties window.
I certainly hope it is not a hardware problem, as the warranty on my T43 ran out a long time ago.
btw, I am running Windows XP Pro XP3.

  • Can't use scrolling on touchpad

    Hi guys
I made a mistake and uninstalled the original driver for the mousepad, stupidly. Anyway, I was able to find the drivers to get it to work again. But I have a minor issue which I hope someone can help me fix.
I cant get the scrolling ability to work when you use the edges of the mousepad to scroll up and down or left and right. Is there something im missing which can get this to work or is it a lost cause.
    Thank you

    Hi
Can you also tell us what notebook and OS you have? This would be useful to write useful advices how to solve your problem.
Normally you can enable/disable the virtual scrolling function in Mouse settings. Therefore go in control panel > Mouse. Check the properties there and then you can enable/disable this function.
