Virtual Scrolling is very rough

Hi, I have Vista x64 on my T400. I've installed the UltraNav trackpad driver properly and enabled virtual scrolling.
However the actual virtual scrolling experience is very frustrating. It's anything but smooth. It works 3/10 tries for me and that too it's very jumpy. I tried change scrolling speed but it doesn't help.
I had owned Dell inspirons in the past and I had very smooth virtual scrolling experience. Is there anything I can do in this case?

When I orginally purchased my thinkpad I had the issue of poor virtual scrolling only in firefox, scrolling in IE worked fine.  I had to install the beta drivers listed within this post
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/17890-synaptics-v10-2-4-modded-for-acer-gemstone-series/
in order to get smooth virtual scrolling firefox.  However, with these modified drivers I sometimes loose my scrolling ability with the touchpad while watching videos on youtube or other flash videos.  It's very strange.  I'm not sure what it is specifically with firefox and the lastest version of the synaptic drivers on Lenovo's website but there seems to be some sort of conflict which is causing poor scrolling performance in firefox but not IE.  I hope this helps.

  • Can anyone help me solve the problem of text displaying very rough on my new ASUS PA279Q display monitor running off my MacBook Pro?

This is regarding a brand new ASUS PA 279Q, 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor. I'm connected via mini display port (into thunderbolt port on MacBook Pro) to display port on ASUS monitor; using cable ASUS included with the monitor. Mid 2012 MacBook Pro…full specs at bottom of this post.
I have resolution set at 2560 x 1440 which is the native resolution according to the ASUS spec. I tried the other resolutions available in my System Preferences and text displayed rough with those settings too. I've tried adjusting contrast, brightness and sharpness via the ASUS control panel and didn't solve the problem. Also tried calibrating via Mac's system preferences/display and that did not improve text display either. All the text on this monitor (no matter what software I launch, Finder, InDesign, Illustrator, MS Word, Excel, VMWare Windows XP, Windows versions of Word, Excel, Acrobat, etc, all are consistently rendering text the same way ---  ROUGH and with "HALOS" around each letter.
All point sizes of text and at various scales, display very rough on the screen. (My comparison is the retina display of my MBP and a Thunderbolt…so those two displays are my expectations.) I'm using the same MBP for both a Thunderbolt display (at work) and this ASUS at my home office.
On the ASUS it's not as noticeable when the text is on white backgrounds, but I'm a graphic designer and compose images with text all day everyday. Not to mention the specs on this ASUS PA279Q indicate it's built for the professional so I would expect better text rendering. I haven't even addressed color calibration and balance yet, because that won't matter to me if the text won't display any better than it is now.
I was so hopeful after researching all the specs on this monitor it would be a viable alternative to the glossy display of the Thunderbolt display. (Which, I do love the Thunderbolt display for it's clarity and how it displays crisp, clean text at all sizes. (This ASUS actually displays text decently if I increase the text so each letter is about 4" high. Which is pointless for practical purposes -- that'd be like doing page layout through a microscope!)
I kept holding off on getting a monitor for the home office thinking the Thunderbolt would be updated soon. I'd be sick if I dropped a grand on piece of 2011 technology only to learn a few days later an updated Thunderbolt display hit the market! Not to mention, I'm praying Apple comes out with a less reflective Thunderbolt display. The glare and reflection is the main reason I looked elsewhere for a large monitor; hence my asking for help. Hoping the ASUS text display issue can be worked out. My expectation is for it to display like the MBP retina and Thunderbolt display text. That possible?
Alternatively, I guess I could do the Apple Refurb Thunderbolt at $799. And see if there's a decent aftermarket anti-glare I could stick on it?
Thanks for reading my post. Hope someone can help; offer any suggestions? Words or wisdom?
Has anyone else had similar issues and figured out a resolution? Help!

I uninstalled those two items. It still runs slow on start-up and when opening safari, firefox, iphoto, itunes, etc. It's not snappy like it used to be. Any other ideas? Thanks.

  • Why can't I use virtual scrolling on the touchpad on my laptop with the new version 5 of Firefox?

Virtual scrolling: being able to drag my finger along the right border of the touchpad to scroll up/down pages.

You can try to set the pref <b>ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled</b> to <i>0</i> or <i>1</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page to see if that makes it work.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Why are fonts very rough in Chrome but fine in the other browsers?

I just started using BrowserLab about an hour ago (5/5/2011 2030 CST).
I am not using the Dreamweaver integration, I'm just going to the BrowserLab site and using the facilities.
The page, on one of my sites, I choose to look at first (http://www.sugarcatsimon.com) looks just about the same in all browsers except for Chrome. In Chrome, with both releases available in BrowserLab - 9.0 and 10.0), the fonts are very rough.
I used to do some screen printing (posters, T-shirts, etc) and in that industry, this lettering would be said to be badly saw-toothed, that is, the edges of the letters are quite rough like the teeth of a saw.
The Chrome representations of the page is just about identical whether I'm using Firefox (3.6.16) or IE (8) when using BrowserLab. I have both running and if I switch back and forth between the two apps, very little on the page display changes. The fonts are quite rough.
Is this something caused by BrowserLab or is it inherent in Chrome and something I will need to take steps to correct?
I'm wondering if it might not be better to simply install all of the various browsers on one or more of my systems and actually use them to check web pages.
Oh yes, does anyone know why Opera is not one of the browsers supported by BrowserLab?
Another question - is there a way to turn off the right click menu for this forum - the one with "Insert Link, Alignment, etc entries? It really is a pain when I go to use Firefox's normal right click menu. It is a pain.

    Mark,
    Thanks for the reply.
I'll see what I can find out about getting the text to look better in
Chrome. I may have to detect it and do something CSS wise. If I find
something, I'll let you know and post a message on the forum.
SIDETRACK - I love it when someone posts a question in a forum "Help,
how do I......?" No one comes up with a solution and then the original
person posts "I found a way to do it, thanks anyway" -- AND THEY DON'T
TAKE THE TIME TO TELL EVERYONE JUST HOW THEY DID IT!!!!!!
Back to BrowserLab -- I found BrowserLab while searching to see if
anyone had any warnings about browsers which will not peacefully
co-habit the same system at the same time. I don't have access to a MAC
but my wife has a friend who is a MAC junky and I should be able to
double check things on her system.
I am still thinking that it might be best, as you say, to install as
many browsers as possible (on multiple machines if necessary) for testing.
As to the right click menu, I wasn't clear about what I was talking
about, sorry. It is when I right click in the "edit box" that the forum
right click menu gets in my face. I use Firefox and use its spell
checker and so, most of the time, when I'm in a forum posting something,
I'm using the context menu to get at the spell checker or to copy or
    paste something.
This is a bit of a weird coincident, but I came across something last
night, after I posted the message here, about Firefox and context menus
(right click menus). I happened upon a site where they were trying to
override the context menu to prevent "theft" of images. It worked in
I.E. but not in Firefox. In Firefox I was still seeing the contextual menu.
Doing some research I found that there is an option in Firefox
"dom.event.contextmenu.enabled" which, when set to false, is supposed to
prevent a web site from disabling the context menu (right click menu).
In my Firefox installation, that setting is set to false. That is why
the forum right click menu and Firefox's are getting in each other's way.
I did not look into the forum page in detail but there is obviously some
Javascript (actually I see "JQuery" being used) to try and disable the
context menu within the edit box.
If  I change the "dom.event.contextmenu.enabled" setting to true and
then right click in an edit box on Adobe, Firefox's contextual menu is
    not displayed.
In Firefox, go to the address bar and type about:config
There is a colon ( between about and config.
A message will be displayed saying that making changes may void the
warranty - ha, ha - click the "I'll be careful" button.
In the search box at the top of the displayed page, type in context
A few entries will be shown with context in their names. One is
dom.event.contextmenu.enabled. According to the documentation, if the
value is false, Firefox's contextual menu cannot be disabled. If the
value is true, the contextual menu can be disabled.
Whoever coded the attempt at disabling the contextual menu so that only
the Adobe menu is displayed, is not aware of, or does not have a way to
    get around, the dom.event.contextmenu.enabled setting.
    Go read the thread at
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2191055 for details, I
post as Olhanzilla. I seem to have found a way to disable the contextual
menu regardless of the dom.event.contextmenu.enabled setting
    Again, thanks for the reply.

  • Virtual Scroll Glitch

The Auto Scroll (aka Virtual Scroll) utility appears to have a little glitch when dealing with multiple monitors of (presumably) different resolutions.
I am reporting this bug from a X100e, which has a resolution of 1366x768, attached to an external monitor of 1280x1024.
The symptoms are reproducible and are as follows:
      1. Multiple displays set to Extend. (Presumably of different resolutions.)
      2. A maximized window.
      3. Win+D is used to minimize the window. (The minimize button does not trigger this.)
      4. Attempting to scroll off the edges of the screen produces wallpaper corruption.
            See screenshot: http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/7603/53719659.jpg
I think the program is not registering the fact that the window is no longer in focus and is attempting to shift the wallpaper window element back on screen with respect to the wrong resolution.
The issue persists with the Auto Scroll service stopped. Will try disabling the service and restarting.
EDIT: The issue is no longer present after disabling Auto Scroll and restarting. It returns upon starting the service.
    It's a minor glitch really.
As a side note, it took way too much effort to figure out what Auto Scroll actually does. There's a descriptor for every service for a reason .
EDIT2: For whatever reason, Auto Scroll turns off the first time you disable the service. Subsequent times disabling the service doesn't work; the feature and aforementioned issue are still active.
The issue also occurs regardless of orientation of displays.

The Auto-Scroll Utility also causes problems with Terminal Server use under the same conditions.  I had a user who did not have the 'panning' issue, as I called it when I talked with Lenovo, when they were on the desktop with Windows 7.  However, when they connected to a Terminal server, you could make the desktop 'pan' when you try to move the mouse pointer into the 'dead' space difference between the two displays.  This is using Remote Desktop Connection with the option of 'Use all my monitors' checked.
Did not matter which display was primary, if you had one display that was a larger resolution either in 'height' or in width of the other monitor, you have a 'black' dead space area with the two displays depending on the orientation of the displays.  IE, if I had a 1920x1080 and I had a 1280x800 display setup, if the displays were side by side, the viewing rectangle would be designated as 3200x1080...  Which leaves a dead space on the vertical of 280.  If your cursor tried to move into this dead space, Auto-scroll utility kicks in and pans the desktop around on both displays.
As the original poster points out, when you disable the Lenovo Auto-Scroll Utility Service, this is no longer an issue.  I have been trying to figure out this problem with some of these users and never thought to look at the Auto-scroll utility, and didn't even notice it until looking on another system and seeing it running in the processes.  Lenovo techs are also not aware of this, as I called this in and they original believed due to the nature of my system build, which is a non-IBM loadout, that we needed to reload the OS using their disks before going further.
I highly recommend that unless you REALLY need this feature, to turn this off.  There is no real gain from it that isn't already provided to you by Windows 7 at this time.

  • Multiscreen HTML 5  output  in Chrome – when scrolling down very long topics in the content pane the navigation area 'moves up' , i.e cant see search field or TOC.

    Hi,
Multiscreen HTML 5  output  in Chrome – when scrolling down very long topics in the content pane the navigation area 'moves up' , i.e cant see search field or TOC.
    thanks
    Anat

This is by design. If you want to change this, the content section must have a set height and scroll. Which layout are you using? -- Check out the Responsive layouts and the Social layout. I believe those have the more traditional TOC placement.

  • Safari's responsiveness to scrolling commands very poor when displaying pdf files.

Safari is lagging terribly when trying to scroll PDF files.  This makes scrolling a PDF file very difficult using two-finger scroll commands on the trackpad.  Scrolling works quite well for everything else, so it is obvious the problem is being caused by Safari and is unique to PDF files.

  • Scrolling suddenly very slow

    Good evening,
I'm having trouble with my up and down arrows for scrolling through anything, websites, PDFs etc...I can swear it was fine just a few minutes ago before I was playing around with the settings, but I can't seem to find anything that has anything to do with this feature so I can turn it back. I know I can use the trackpad to scroll, but I like having my up and down arrows since I don't have the page up/down keys on my Macbook Pro...
Any ideas would do, its starting to bug me!
    Thanks

I just completely uninstalled the browser with the box marked including my personal settings checked and then reinstalled. It seems to be okay now. I'm guessing it was one of the plug-ins I recently installed. Problem is, I have no idea which one.

  • Scrolling is very slow and looks like it's re-rendering from top to bottom on each scroll.

After downloading Firefox 4, scrolling isn't work well. Each time I scroll up or down, the page looks like it's re-rendering by wiping from top to bottom. Takes about 2 seconds to so before I can scroll any further. There's no smoothness to scrolling like there was in the past.
I tried downloading new graphics drivers, but that didin't fix the issue. I tried checking "smooth scrolling" in advanced options, but that made it worse.

Update the video display driver to the latest version.

  • Safari scrolling is very slow

I got my mac mini about 3 months ago and I had gotten used to using safari and everything worked perfect with it but now for the past 2 weeks is has gone unbelievably slow whilst scrolling as is jumps but only small ones and can take like 4 seconds to react. I have tried resetting safari and also uninstalling and downloading the latest one but still no look so now I have had to resort to google chrome but I dont like it and want safari back. Please can anyone help me out with this. It would be much appreciated. Thank you

See the "System Freezes Randomly after 10.6.3 Update" thread. This may reflect some of the problems you have seen. It certainly reflected the frustrations and crashes I was experiencing.
Apple recently (12 April 2010) released an 10.6.3 v1.1 Update (build 10D578). I downloaded ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017 ) this latest update and it DOES solve my freezing problems. My iMac pro runs great now. I hope this information is useful.

  • VBox Verical scroller(working very slowly) issue in flex

    Hi,
I am currently using Vbox to add 6 UIComponents and display,
as the height of all the component is greater thn screen height.
the VBox uses vertical scrollbar to display it.
for the first time the scrollbar works with good speed,
but for next attemps it becomes very slow.
Any solution for this is most welcome.

  • Safari 4: Scrolling is Very Fast

An issue I have with Safari is that it scrolls a huge chunk of the page when I use my mouse wheel. For example, at cnet.com, it takes 8 wheel clicks to get to the bottom of the page with Firefox. With Safari, just 3. I can change the global settings, but then EVERY other program scrolls too slowly. I don't see an option for Safari. Is there anything I can do? Thanks!

    Hi
There is no option for Safari, per se. Rather, the mouse option controls all apps via System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse panel. Are you using a 3rd party mouse? If so, are you using the latest mouse driver?

  • Very Rough Week

Okay, with over 15+ years I normally solve these problems by myself.  Very, very rarely to a hit a problem that really stumps me, but I guess I have finally found one because I am stumped and frustrated.
    I was running:
    KT6V-LSR
    160GB Samsung SATA Drive
512MB Samsung Data Master DDR 400 RAM
    Barton 2500+ Clocked to 2800
    ATI Radeon 8500 LE
USR Softmodem V.92 (never used, just in system. LOL)
    ATI TV Wonder w/ Remote
    MSI DVR-8A DVD-RW Drive
Okay, got paid monday and as I have been running this system for about a year now I decided it was time to give it a "boost".  Stopped by a local computer store to pick up a 1GB PC3200 chip but he only had 512 and I saw a Radeon 9200SE there that was "inexpensive so asked if it would be an upgrade and salesman said yes, so picked it up.  YES I KNOW BETTER AND SHOULD HAVE RESEARCHED. :(
Well, here is where things start to go south.  I get home to my system that hasn't even been reinstalled in over 9 months and plug in the new 9200 card and the 512mb Elixir chip.  Suddenly I am getting intermittent blue screens and the system is rebooting at night (I never turn my computer off).
So, I spend some time moving things around and it "seems" to go away with removing the Elixir ram so I subsequently return that and had to wait for the replacement, a spectek, to get in (due wedensday).
Now, yesterday after I glitched I decided to go ahead and reinstall windows and the rest of my software, especially considering I have had some newer versions sitting here uninstalled for a copule months....
I get Windows XP SP2 installed, same as I was running before, Install Norton System Works, then set to downloading Everquest.  I watch some videos in the meantime and then go to bed, wake up middle of the inight, install Everquest and start it patching.
I woke up this morning and started to Play Everquest and the system started rebooting.  I was like "huh?"  Eventually it started crashing out to VPU Errors and rebooting into funky screens, etc...  I installed different drivers, no fix so I returned the card and picked up a 9250.
Now, here is where I get really frustrated.  In the process of getting my 8500 out of the box I had put it in to ship to my sister I accidently broke one of the tiny capicators off (broke the solder).  It does still work, and is stable, in windows but will not play EQ.  During my time down with only Explorer I researched the 8500 compared to the 9200 and 9250 to find they are not an "Upgrade" but a "Downgrade".  You can imagine my feelings.  I paid $60 for a card expecting to get an upgrade and i end up with a down grade so now I am out looking for a small soldering iron to fix my 8500.  I'm still not sure how to handle this and wouldn't have accepted an exchange if not for the fact that the 8500 is currently broken.
Now, that said I assumed (I know assume makes an (you know the word) out of you and me) that my problem had never been the memory so I picked the Elixir back up.
Well, I get home plug in the 9250 and walla I have video again and EQ loads.  But I get reboots and barely get past the bios screen so I started playing with settings.  Finally get a load and still having reboot issues so I pulled the Elixir, problem gone.  Now, the computer store checked this ram and said all was fine, back on the shelf.  So I pull the samsung and run only the Elixir walla, no problem.
My first thoughts here are compatibility, but I reset all the settings down and board reads as if they are running at the same settings.  Now, if the settings were different on auto (I.E. 400mhz 3cas) I would understand, but the KT6V says they are both the same on boot.
    Any ideas or help please.

Well, I was actually originally looking for a 1GB stick of ram, but when I was checking prices and at the shop he didn't have a 1GB PC3200 only the 512 and the price difference allowed for the 9200.  I hadn't researched video cards in a while, I hadn't needed to upgrade my computer and have been working on Business Systems which are happy with $30.00 video cards (ATI is what I install) and I had just been purchasing whatever was inexpensive backstock on ATI brands for these.
I play everquest and that is the reason for the upgrade.  When I first installed the Elixir Ram and the 9200 video card system ran great, but I was getting the occasionally reboot and a blue screen here and there, but it was very intermittent and not constant.  I leave my computer running with EQ up overnight and when I was getting up would be at a fresh reboot of Windows (no error in event log or dump in windows).
At this point, running full diags, I couldn't find any problem with the hardware so I pulled the Elixir and the system stayed up overnight so I returned the Elixir ram and had him order a new chip (spectek this time I believe) and again had him verify to order CAS 3 PC3200 as I know that is what my samsung is.  The old stick I ran with the Samsung was a Centron 256 PC3200 FYI.
Then, this saturday everything went ballistic with the Video Card when I started running EQ (heavy load). The only thing done prior to that was a full reload of the system and full update of the drivers.  FYI the 9200, 8500, and 9250 all use the same driver set.
I currently can't use the 8500, not until I replace or find my Pen Solder Gun and reattach the capacitor that has come off.
Now, knowing the video card was a problem I returned it, since the 8500 was down for the moment, I exchanged it for the 9250 and picked up the ram.  Video card freaked so must have been it and not the ram, right? I get home and install both and boot into windows.  Start playing eq and system reboots.  I do it again, again reboot.  I play with settings in bios, load everything to bare min low end settings, no high performance other than keeping processor clocked at 3000 (to hard to reset that thing) and then i end up with more reboots and once I saw a blue screen, only once.
So I start playing with chips and slots, tried each chip seperately in each slot and all seemed fine, loaded both and sometimes I don't even get past the Video card post.  I dropped to the samsung only and still continued eventually (over time to have problems).  I have since disconnected to case fans and turned off the front case light.  I have been stable and running for over 24 hours now which leads me to believe I have a PSU problem.
EDIT: The reason I was upgrading the card is because my 8500 is 3 years old, but I think the performance difference I was seeking, as I was originally only looking for ram, would come with just getting to 1GB and does not require going to a higher end video card at the moment.  I am preparing to upgrade and am not a fan of NVidia.  Upon my research in Video cards saturday where I discoved the 9200 was not an upgrade I also found that it is more realistic to go PCIE than buy an Updated AGP card.  So, I am now looking into options to just build another system in the next few months.

  • Horizontal Scroll is VERY slow on Mavericks. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Hi, I have just upgraded to Mavericks, on 10.9.1.
I use a Logitech Trackball, and just upgraded the driver to solve a cursor freezing issue.
But now, when I want to scroll horizontally, using "Shift" with the scroll wheel, it moves extremely slow. I am not quite sure how to fix it. It worked fine before upgrading to Mavericks.
If you have any thoughts on what might be happening, or how I can troubleshoot it, I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks so much!

Try it with the trackpad, I know on the macbooks it has it but in system preferences>trackpad>point & click there should be something that says tracking speed.  If you have an iMac, that setting might me under mouse in system preferences.
