Virtual servers are rebooting automatically

Hello All,
I am having an issue with Virtual Servers.
I have 5 node cluster. Last week due to storage firmware upgradation we had some problems. after that we contacted storage expert and get it rectified. Now One of cluster node is having a issue. Once i move the VMs (This node is the owner of VMs) then the
virtual servers are automatically rebooting. Now this node is ideal. In addition to that we checked all updates and run the failover test also..every thing is showing green.
Can any one have solution for this, please help me.
Thank you.
Karan

Hi Karan,
Unfortunately, the available information is not enough to have a clear view of the occurred behavior. Could you provide more information about your environment. For example,
the exact text of any error messages that you received that are associated with this problem?
The server version of the problem on, when you experience this issue what are you trying to do, when this problem occurs the system log record information, screenshots is the best information.
The 1146 event just can offer us the cluster fail, but we still need more information, please post your cluster log. You can refer the following article to generate the cluster
log.

  • Servers are rebooting after patch syncronization

    After approving MS-patches through WSUS  all of a sudden servers are getting patched and rebooting. This is happening even after deadline has set. I have got a info like Microsoft re-published patches with same KB name, and it might have already approved
    in some month back so no deadline setting will take effect. If this is the case how we can tackle this.  Appreciate help on this....

    Hi Sankar,
    Are these servers stuck into a rebooting loop? If yes, please enter the safe mode, then remove the update in control panel.
    >>I have got a info like Microsoft re-published patches with same KB name, and it might have already approved in some month back so no deadline setting will take effect.
    Could you please povide the detailed information about this update? I will check if this update has been re-released in my lab.
    Normally, even if two updates have the same KB number, the second update will not inherit the approval from the first one. They are two updates.
    To prevent the server which has downloaded this update from installing it, please follow the steps below:
    Click Start, click Run,  type cmd in the
    Open box,  and then click OK.
    At the command prompt, type  services.msc.
    Right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Stop.
    Rename the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder as follows:
    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.old
    In the Services snap-in, right-click   Automatic Updates, and then click
    Start.
    Besides, before deploy the update in production environment, it is recommended that test the update in a test group.
    Best Regards.

  • Why are Virtual Servers Preferred?

    The manual states that "virtual servers are the preferred way to have multiple servers," but it does not explain why. Does anybody know? It seems like if you have two independent Windows services, then you can bounce one and only affect one site. With virtual servers, when you add a new directory mapping and press apply, all the virtual servers are off for a couple seconds.

    To support multiple SSL sites, one generally uses multiple listen sockets. That's true if each site has its own server instance or if each site is just a separate virtual server in a single server instance. Each listen socket will need a unique IP:port combination. If you have multiple IP addresses, you can create a separate listen socket for each IP address. If you don't, you can create listen sockets with different port numbers. You can then configure a different default virtual server for each listen socket.
    As you note, wildcard certificates are an alternative to separate listen sockets. I wouldn't recommend that approach. The major Certificate Authorities certainly don't, either.

  • Best practices for setting up virtual servers on Windows Server 2012 R2

    I am creating a Web server from scratch with Windows Server 2012 R2. I expect to have a host server, and then 3 virtual servers...one that runs all of the web apps as a web server, another as a Database Server, and then on for session state.  I
    expect to use Windows Server 2012 R2 for the Web Server and Database Server, but Windows 7 for the session state.
    I have an SATA2 Intel SROMBSASMR RAID card with battery back up that I am attaching a small SSD drive that I expect to use for the session state, and an IBM Server RAID M1015 SATA3 card that I am running Intel 520 Series SSD's that I expect to
    use for Web server and Database server.
    I have some questions. I am considering using the internal USB with a flash drive to boot the Host off of, and then using two small SSD's in a Raid 0 for the Web server (theory being that if something goes wrong, session state is on a different drive), and
    then 2 more for the Database server in a RAID 1 configuration.
    please feel free to poke holes in this and tell me of a better way to do it.
    I am assuming that having the host running on a slow USB drive that is internal has no effect on the virtual servers after it is booted up, and the virtual servers are booted up?

    There are two issues about RAID0:
    1) It's not as fast as people think. So with a general purpose file system like NTFS or ReFS (choice for Windows is limited) you're not going to have any great benefits as there are very low chances whole RAID stripe would be updated @ the same time (I/Os
    need to touch all SSDs in a set so 256KB+ in a real life). Web server workload is quite far away from sequential reads or writes so RAID0 is not going to shine here. Log-structures file system (or at least some FS with logging capabilities, think about ZFS
    and ZIL enabled) *will* benefit from SSDs in RAID0 properly assigned.
    2) RAID0 is dangerous. One lost SSD would render whole RAID set useless. So unless you build a network RAID1-over-RAID0 (mirror RAID sets between multiple hosts with a virtual SAN like or synchronous replication solutions) - you'll be sitting on a time bomb.
    Not good :)
    StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Can I use virtual Servers in private cloud for RAC

    Hello  to all
    We are going to install an Oracle RAC on two servers
    But our Hardware Administrator says to us   “I Allocate two virtual servers in the our private cloud not two physical Servers (or real Servers)”
    Do you think it’s practical and reasonable to using virtual Server for Oracle RAC  in production environment ?
    Which one is better physical server or virtual server  for RAC?
    Please write your reasons
    Thanks

    Using virtual machines is officially  supported for RAC only in a few cases which can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/virtualizationmatrix-172995.html
    Make sure that you meet these requirements in your private cloud. Some cases like vmware are still somewhat supported despite beeing not on the list.
    Beside this you should make sure that your 2 virtual machines run on different hardware servers in the cloud, otherwise you lose most parts of the rac advantage regarding high availability, when both virtual servers happen to run on the same hardware during a crash
    Virtual servers are used in production environments, but you will have to take greater care for many aspects of rac compared to physical hardware, e.g.. something like "live migration" of vmware can kill a rac node due to timeout.
    I would prefer hardware for rac anytime over virtual servers and spare me the hassle of dealing with all possible issues arising from the virtualization.
    And check oracles licensing policy...
    Running an enterprise edition rac on e.g. a large vmware cluster is insanely expensive, you pay every cpu core the rac COULD run on -> the entire cluster!
    If you must use virtual hardware but don't want to and need an argument against it use the license issue.
    Regards
    Thomas

  • ANM 4.1 virtual servers issues

    I just loaded ANM 4.1 and imported my ACE modules and I am seeing some odd behavior in the Operations/Virtual servers tab. My virtual servers are showing up with multiple different VIP addresses under the IP Address:Protocol:Port.
    For Example VIP-WEB-80 shows up with the VIPs 192.168.1.1:80 and 192.168.2.35:443.  Only one of these addresses is associated with the VIP.  The other is associated with another VIP in a different context and different Policy Map.  Has anybody else seen this?  Is this a bug?  What can I do to fix this.

    Hello Doug-
    Looks like - CSCtk63104.
    Try checking the vips under the advanced configuration section, do they show up correctly?

  • UCCX 8.5 HA NTP issues (virtual servers)

    Hello,
    I'm working with an UCCX HA server that is having NTP issues. It reports that it is synchronized, but at stratum 16, which is considered to be unsynchronized. Also, it's always exactly 3 seconds off. I'm not sure if this is related, yet, but every time the servers failover, agents get licensing errors and cannot log into CAD.

    Originally, the servers were configured to get time from Microsoft domain controllers. Since they use SNTP and UC servers require NTPv4, I configured the primary UCCX server to use public NTPv4 servers. I have updated vmware tools on both servers and rebooted the servers and restarted ntp services, but nothing will get time to synchronize on the HA server.
    Finally, there are other UC servers (CUCM & CUC) set up to use the same NTP servers, but the HA servers cannot synchronize their time no matter what I do. I've tried different NTP servers both on the LAN and public ones. I thought I would include this detail since my gut is telling me that this issue has something to do with the virtual environment.

    Thanks for the reply Graham! I'm aware that windows does not implement NTP correctly, which is why I was trying NTPv4 and IOS time servers.The NTP issue I was troubleshooting actually ended up being a combination of a couple issues:
    1. Cisco Bug CSCtw46611
    2. The virtual UC servers need to be configured with the same NTP server as those configured on the VMWare hosts they run in.
    The time issue on CUCM and CUC was resolved by the workaround in (1) and the changes made on the hosts regarding (2). The time issue on UCCX was resolved by (2) since it is not affected by the bug. There were some really bizarre issues that went away once NTP was fixed: UCCX would lose data sync with CUCM every time CUCM was rebooted, the voice ports on the HA CUC server had terrible voice quality or would never pick up (eternal ringback), and UCCX failover didn't work (licensing errors, etc as explain in my original post).

  • Updating servers and reboot during MW

    Hi.
    Our main goal is to install software updates en reboot the server only during Maintenance Windows (MW) I’ve been searching the Internet but i’m stuck.
    Software updates are installing and servers are waiting for reboot.
    The setting are;Collection: MW is set to 03-04 hour
    Server: Business hours are from 05-22 hour and software center\computer maintenance\only suspend software center ….ticked on
    GPO: Automatic updates are disabled
    ADR: tab User Experience\Deadline behavior\software installation ticked on and Device restart behavior\Supress Servers ticked on
    TIA.
    Thanks, Harmen

    Hi.
    Our main goal is to install software updates en reboot the server only during Maintenance Windows (MW)
    Thanks, Harmen
    If you want to install and reboot only during MW, then this is how your user experience tab should look like on a deployment:
    If you want to install outside of MW but only reboot within MW, then check "Software Update Installation" checkbox. Your updates would then install on deadline you have scheduled (which might be outside of MW) but reboot only within MW you have
    set.

  • How to customize search in WS 7 and for multiple virtual servers?

    I'm not clear on how to customize search results pages in Sun Web Server 7. The documentation (the Adminstrator's Guide, page 215) says:
    You can take a look at the default search application located at /bin/https/webapps/search as a sample application
    but I'm not seeing any such thing. I did a find . -name search -type d from the server root and instance root but the only search directories I'm seeing are subdirectories within the generated directory and they look like system generated jsps that I shouldn't touch (So I didn't :-)
    So one question is, where is the default app? A second question is, how do we set up different branding for different virtual servers?
    We're currently using WS 6.1 and it has a field in the GUI for the directory containing the web app to use for search. That seems to have disappeared in WS 7.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Dave

    I don't use the search engine, so I'm afriad I don't have direct experience here.
    What I'd probably do is modify the app so that it looks at the Host data to determine which directory it should point to for graphics, formatting, etc. You could also use the obj.conf with variables to pull graphics from directories appropriately branded. Something like:
    1) Create "additional doc directory" for images
    2) Find the entry in the obj.conf that points to the new directory
    3) Modify the path to something like /path/to/$host/images
    4) Make sure you create directories like:
    /path/to/foobar.com/images/
    /path/to/www.foobar.com/images/
    /path/to/baz.com/images/
    /path/to/www.baz.com/images/

  • Running SAP on Microsoft Virtual Servers

    Is anyone running SAP on Microsoft Virtual Servers?  If so, what has been your experience with this?  We are installing NetWeaver 2004s on three virtual servers (running on the same Physical Windows server). We are using the Microsoft Virtual Server software (not VM Ware).
    Thanks in advance for any information.

    Check Note 674851 - Virtualization on Windows:
    VMware, GSX Server, VMware workstation, Microsoft Virtual Server
    Due to their restriction to 32-bit, single CPU and host/guest operation, these virtualization products are not suitable for productive SAP applications.
    It may be advisable to use one of these products to operate non-production systems (demo systems, test systems, development systems and so on).
    I would not use Microsoft Virtual Server for productive installations, additionally, depending on the database used, it may or may not supported by the database vendor and thus also may or may not supported by SAP.
    In worst case you will need to reinstall the application on a non-virtualized environment and reproduce a problem there before SAP support will accept the problem.

  • Help with J2EE SDK 1.4 Virtual Servers please!

    H!
    Are we doomed to have just one virtual server pointing to port 80??
    I have a Win2K computer with J2EE App Server 1.4. In this computer I stopped the IIS 5.0 in order to use the HTTP Server included with the product. I also run the DNS on the same machine with 3 domains. All name resolutions for these 3 domains work fine.
    Now I want to enter to any of the 3 domains freely and execute JSP apps. But I don't want to enter ports numbers like this:
    http://www.mytest.com:8081/hello.jsp
    I just want to enter:
    http://www.mytest.com/hello.jsp
    So I defined a new http-port listener pointing to the 80 port on this server. With no SSL support.
    Name: http-port80
    IP Address: 0.0.0.0
    POrt: : 80
    Then I defined a new virtual server using the http-port listener. I set the following fields:
    ID: mytest
    Hosts: www.mytest.com
    HTTP Listener: http-port80 (This is the name of the port listener)
    Everything seems to be fine. I can enter http://www.mytest.com and call the hello.jsp it's ok.
    But then I create a new virtual server for http://www.mytest2.com exactly as the one for the www.mytest.com, except for the host field: http://www.mytest2.com
    Then when I restart the app server I got the message on the log: "Port already in use".
    I don't want to enter http://www.mytest2.com:<port> but I've read that you cannot assign the same http-listener to 2 virtual servers, so I created another listener pointing to the same port 80. But I still have the same error.
    Any ideas how to handle this?
    Am I doing something wrong on the configuration?
    Thank you very much!!

    I can help you out with this, because I just solved this problem using the Apache web server 2.0 with mod_proxy and mod_proxy_http.
    this is how the configuration works.
    setup sunone creating one virtual host for each http-listener on a different port. and make sure these ports are any port except the 80. -- we will configure apache on this port and then use it as a reverse proxy to get to our hosts.
    like this
    virtual-listener-1 - port 8081
    virtual-listener-2 - port 8082
    virtual-listener-3 - port 8083
    virtual-host-1: www1.domain.com bind to: virtual-listener-1
    virtual-host-2: www2.domain.com bind to: virtual-listener-2
    virtual-host-3: www3.domain.com bind to: virtual-listener-3
    now download apache with all the modules http://www.apache.org
    in your httpd.conf add the following lines of code.
    #the code below will tell apache to enable the proxy for your host
    <IfModule mod_proxy.c>
    # Proxy Server directives. Uncomment the following lines to
    # enable the proxy server:
    ProxyRequests On
    <Proxy *>
    Order deny,allow
    Deny from all
    Allow from www1.domain.com
    Allow from www2.domain.com
    Allow from www3.domain.com
    </Proxy>
    # Enable/disable the handling of HTTP/1.1 "Via:" headers.
    # ("Full" adds the server version; "Block" removes all outgoing Via: headers)
    # Set to one of: Off | On | Full | Block
    ProxyVia On
    # End of proxy directives.
    </IfModule>
    NameVirtualHost *:80
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName www1.domain.com
    <Location />
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    ProxyPass http://sunoneserver:8081/
    </Location>
    </VirtualHost>
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName www2.domain.com
    <Location />
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    ProxyPass http://sunoneserver:8082/
    </Location>
    </VirtualHost>
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName www3.domain.com
    <Location />
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    ProxyPass http://sunoneserver:8083/
    </Location>
    </VirtualHost>
    note the sunone server indicates the server where you installed sunone-as (J2EE 1.4). this will give you the result you are looking for: all three of these sites will run on port 80 and each of them will respond to a different web application on sunone.
    there are naturally limits because when you run out of ports on your application server this won't work any more but then again there are about 60000 of those free and i don't think you will be able to run that many sites on one server anyway.

  • SBS 2003 to Server 2013 migration - How many virtual Servers?

    Hi
    I need to replace our SBS2003 - we are about 10 users. We use it for:
    AD
    File/Print
    Exchange
    SQL
    WSUS
    Subversion
    TrendMicro WFBS
    Since there is no current follow up product I feel like I need to setup:
    Server 2012 R2
    Exchange 2013
    SQL Server 2012 Express
    I found inconsistent information on how many virtual servers I will need. Is it correct that in contrast to SBS I must have multiple (virtual) servers?
    What is best practice for this scenario (# of VM's, "what" goes best with "what", sizes ..)
    Thanks a lot for your help .. I have a very good knowledge about the SBS2003 but unfortunately not about the later Standard Server Versions.

    Well.. best practice would suggest,
    1 VM - DC
    1 VM - Exchange
    1 VM - SQL
    Reality though, suggests they may not be required.
    What do you 'need'?, is a better question.
    Can you move to hosted exchange?
    You can certainly use the Hosted Trend Micro AV product which removes the requirement to run a console on your server.
    Perhaps 2 VMs would be sufficient a DC, and a second to host your applications and WSUS.

  • Active Directory Domain Controllers using Virtual Servers

    Hi,
    I want to place a new SAP landscape in a child domain of the Active Directory forest. Due to an ordering error I am short two servers.
    Basically I am thinking about installing a virtual server on each of the development servers and using the virtual server installation to run as Active Directory Domain controllers.
    I know SAP do not recommend using SAP servers to be used as domain controllers, but as these are separate servers with their defined resources, it should not be a factor if the servers are sized with enough spare capacity.
    Can anyone think of any other major issues that would cause me an further issues.
    TIA
    Chris aka BoobBoo

    should be no problem, but please don't try to put the host-operating system in the domain for which their own guests will provide the domain controlers.

  • Enterprise DNS servers are not responding when using Windows NLB with Direct Access 2012

    Hi
    We have installed Direct Access 2012 as one server installation:
    - Two network cards. First one in DMZ and second one in internal network
    - Two consecutive IP addresses configured in DMZ because of Teredo
    - PKI because of Win7 Clients IPSec
    - Our corporate network is native IPv4 so we use DNS64/NAT64 and DA-server is configured as DNS
    - DA-servers are VMWare virtual machines
    One server installation works fine and now we want to use Windows NLB as load balancing. NLB installation goes fine too,
    but problem is DNS. If we still try to use DA-server as DNS there comes error message below
    None of the enterprise DNS servers 2002:xxxx:xxxx:3333::1 used by DirectAccess clients for name resolution are responding. This might affect DirectAccess client connectivity to corporate resources.
    When trying to configure DNS using Infrastructure access setup, DNS cannot be validated when using DA-servers DIP or cluster VIP. Only domain local DNS looks to be ok but those have no IPv6 addressess. So how DNS should be configured when using multicast
    NLB?
    Tried to remove name suffix then adding again => Detect DNS server => DA-server IPv6 address found => validate => The specified DNS server is not responding...
    Then tried to ping detected address => General failure
    NLB clusters are configured as multicast and static ARPs are configured too. Both clusters can be connected from those subnets as they should be.
    Any clues how to fix this?
