Virtual share points - SMB - not working

My colleague made some adjustments on our sharing over the weekend. To trouble shoot some performance issues he disabled automount on one of our xserves. Since then virtual share points in SMB no longer work. Users can access their folders with the path \\server\user shares\username
I have enabled the automount on the user share but it hasn't made any difference. I have tried to change settings under advanced in SMB but they revert automatically when I click save.
Can anyone help?

Same problem here. I can't switch off virtual sharepoints. They came back on when pressing "Save".

I recommend to enter the URL as below in the Brower to check whether the account can access SharePoint admin Center.

Cannot disable Homes: Enable Virtual Share Points

Hello,
We just installed 10.5 server this morning, and many things seem to be a big improvement-- e.g., the new version of Samba (3.0.25) now allows AD transitive trust users to connect, whereas 10.4's Samba (3.0.10) did not. But the problem now is: we cannot disable the virtual share points for homedirs on Samba. In Server Admin, if you uncheck the checkbox and hit "Apply", the GUI rechecks it.
10.4 Server has this same configuration option, and it works as expected. I did a little investigation with the serveradmin command-line tool on our Leopard machine, and this tool exhibits the same problem. For example:

smb:adminCommands:homes = yes
For reference, we are set up as a Domain Member for Active Directory. We do not have any schema additions (for Mac stuff, anyway).
I suspect that maybe there's some configuration option further up that supercedes this, and that's why Server Admin rechecks the checkbox. My guess was that maybe Directory Services was overlaying an attribute on top of AD information. And I see that if I use dscl and look at the attributes for my user in AD, there is indeed an attribute for home folders that clearly does not exist in the AD itself: "NFSHomeDirectory" which is set to /Users/[myusername]
When I go back and us dscl to lookup the same thing in Tiger Server, Directory Services also appends the NFSHomeDirectory attribute, but without the same side-effect. So I'm probably mistaken that that is the cause.
Anyone have any pointers? This looks an awful lot like a bug to me.

P.S. I also did have a look at where in smb.conf this is being set-- it is being put in an include'd smb.conf that is stored in /var/run. If I comment out the \[homes\] section, and restart Samba, that /var/run/smb.conf is overwritten with a new autogenerated version. I would just wipe that section out, lock the file, and restart Samba, but I really do want our administrators to be able to use the GUI tools. Otherwise, I would just be using Samba on Linux.

I was able to "fix" the issue with an ugly workaround by modifying /etc/smb.conf and adding certain values to the [[homes]] share that render it ineffective. I added the following to /etc/smb.conf:

; END required configuration.
; Hack to disable virtual homes
[[homes]]
path = /dev/null
valid users = root
; END hack
With these values added to [[homes]], it is only available to the root user, and even then it would go nowhere. I debugged the issue to the point where it appears that the synchronize-preferences tool (/usr/libexec/samba/synchronize-preferences) ignores user settings for disabling virtual homes. I sent so far as to modify the system default in /System/Library/CoreServices/SmbFileServer.bundle/Resources/ServerDefaults.plis t to see if it was a simple case of default settings overriding user settings, but that also had no effect on the configuration that synchronize-preferences created in /var/db/smb.conf

The 'share' feature is not working in iMovie...?

The 'share' button does absolutely nothing. I went through the same upgrade on my daughters Mac (Mavericks etc), and it works perfectly well on hers. Does this mean I should re-install iMovie? If so, how on earth to do I unravell the mystery of achieving that?

I deleted iMovie from the Applications folder and emptied the Trash. But the App Store still shows iMovie as "Installed" so it won't reinstall. What else should I try?
Why has Apple not issued a fix for the "Share" bug? It means that iMovie 10.0 is unusable. Little by little the quality of Apple products is sliding downhill.

Mouse pointer is not working correctly

It sounds like the trackpad on your MacBook Pro is displaying jumpy behavior. In this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the suggested steps in the attached article.

No not really. If this is a brand new Macbook Pro take it back for a refund. Apple has a 14 day No Questions Asked return policy for Full refund.

Vanishing Point is not working in PS CS3. I was trying 10s of time or may be I am not working right. But whatever it says and showing in the Tutorial Vedio, not happening that easy. Break Point is not working on Web UI

Hi guys,
i have a problem with Break Points in combination with the Web UI:
After setting a Break Point in a Function Modul or Method and starting and working with the Web UI the Break Point will not reached. So the Debugger does not open. When i activate the Debugging with the Transaction Code SICF the Break Point is working normaly and the Debugger opens. But ater 30 min the Break Point will not work again. After activating the Debugger over SICF again very thing is ok. Thus i have to activate the Debugger with SICF 10 times per day.
Could somebody tell me how to fix this Problem? I would like to activate Debugging permanently.

Try this..
Activate breakpoints for http debugging..go inside component workbench trxn for any bsp component.. And select activate from the menu option debugging.. This will activate http breakpoints and it will stop in get/setter etc.
i believe this is required to do only once when you login to the system..

Smb not working

I am running Xserver with 10.5, AFP working fine, but SMB stopped working, logs show it is started, but when i try to connect using PC or Mac (smb), i get error.
logs do not show any connections trying to be made in the system logs, when i try from PC, takes a long time to come back with error message, compared to if i turn off SMB service and try and connect.
server is connected to domain.
any help would be great.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.. Turns out the connection i'm testing it on (Virgin Media) does block SMB (port 445). Before I look into VPN, is it possible to change the port that SMB is operating on?
Is it easy to log in with VPN through WindowsXP? Can I send a similar string like smb:user:password@server to gain access to a VPN share through windows? Even through cmd will be fine as I intend on writing a program that can do that. I just need to know if it's possible. As I said, forgive my stupidity, I've never setup VPN before.. I think it's the only thing I havn't really dabbled in yet..

Connection to server via smb not working

i have an old G4 iBook 10.3.9 that i'm using for school. to connect to our school server for course material, we were given smb log-in instructions from our it dept. when i put in the ip address, i get a prompt for the id and password, but i cannot get access. we tried logging on with my professor's macbook pro (10.5) and it worked flawlessly.
i've done all software updates and rechecked the procedure dozens of times, but i can't figure out why it's not working. if anyone has an idea, i'm all ears.

As you can see the content is there, the "space" between the letters is related to unicode. Each character is interpreted by 2 bytes and SQL*Plus wrongly displays both. Using iSQLPLus or SQLDeveloper does not show the "space" between the letters.
Here the data type mapping:

What's the exact version of DG4ODBC you're using? 11.1.0.7?
According to the listener file you're using DG4ODBC on Windows. There was a high/low byte issue in DG4ODBC for Windows. This issue is fixed in 11.1.0.7 and a certain patch. So I recommend you to get first the 11.1.0.7 patchset (if you don't already have it installed):

and then please apply also the latest patch:

SMB not working from outside local network

Hello,
On my old MacBook I installed OS X Server to create a file sharing server. I set it up using my public IP address so that I could access my files from outside the local network. I don't have an Apple router, but I found the port number for SMB and AFP and did the port forwarding. My issue is that smb stopped working. It used to work out side the network because it tested it. My Mac can still connect though outside the local network using my public IP. I have no clue why SMB is not working as it was working recently. My only idea is that I got a new modem from my ISP. Could that make a difference? I don't get it because AFP still works fine. File sharing using SMB is checked in the server app and file sharing preferences so it is not that. I am using OS X 10.8.4 on a MacBook running OS X Server version 2.2.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it a modem only, or is it a modem/router that might be creating a double-NAT on your network?
Incidentally, since you're running Server, you might want to use the built-in VPN gateway to give yourself better security - tunneling AFP/SMB through a router/firewall is pretty insecure.

Three Point Edit not working correctly :(

It appears that 3 point editing ist not working correctly.
Right now I'm editing a video and I heavily rely on 3 point editing.
I have quite a lot XDCAM EX 50i clips which are all in one sequence that is used as source.
Coming from tape workflows I really don't like clicking clip after clip...I need to edit
Now fortunately one can choose to either have a sequence as source edited in nested or as individual tracks. Very nice!
Very bad is that 3 point editing only works when "nested" is activated. Again, very bad!
As soon as I want to use my source sequence with its individual tracks and hit (.) or (,) just nothing happens. Hmpf!
Come on guys, that is essential editing stuff, not fancy speech detection blabla...sorry but this is mega-annoying right now....
It says "Pro" right after "Premiere". So please make it pro! Professionals need ROCK SOLID essential functions.
Make us editors happy having switched from Avid/FCP etc.
Make essential stuff rock solid. That's what makes an app "pro".

I think I know what's going on. The behavior you describe happens when you try to edit back into your original sequence. Can try making a new sequence to cut your selects into? See the page in help for details: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/edit-sequences-loaded-source-monitor.html

I try to do 9 point calibration by using run labview method in Vision builder .
here i tried teo labview files here Reference 1-1.vi working (it gives in mm) (here i am not assigning 9 points )
Reference 1-11.vi file i did invidual points to so that i can enter directly 9 point and real world ..
but its not working .
Is there anyway to 9 point calibraiton in vision builder .
if i have to use run labview step means .. please give me vi file to to enter 9 points (from set variable )

I'm using Flash Builder 4.7 for a pure flash project (ie, no mxml) & all my graphics objects are in a swc that was exported from an FLA.
I've made some progress with that issue. If I explicitly assign the scale9Grid dimensions in the code, it seems to work:
obj.scale9Grid = new Rectangle(x,y,w,h)
...but having to do that is a real productivity killer. Would be nice to use the 9-slice guide setting in the FLA

Why is my ThinkPad track point scroller not working in Firefox 4?

Today as advised by you I have installed Firefox 4 on my ThinkPad Z60m laptop. Earlier with Firefox and all other application worked fine but now its not working on Firefox 4 yet working fine on MS IE and other applications. Please let me know soonest or else I being an avid user of the IBM track point will discontinue using Firefox altogether.
